Desktop Publishing
I thought that the book was kind of hard to understand and i also thought that it was kind of useless in the begining. After you get throught the first 10-12 pages it gets kind of fun to do. I would recomened the book if you are just starting to learn desktop publishing

Lacks the graphic and visual effect.
The cover of this book is beautiful, but like the old saying: "Don't judge a book by it's cover." I was disappointed that the book told of tales of "sea" related entities not just "mermaids". This book lacked the visual effect that I was hoping to obtain from a "fantasy" book. Unlike the exhilarating book, "Mermaids: Nymph of the Sea", A Treasury of Mermaid was lacking in graphics and story.

Barely airworthy . . .
This version of the early history of U.S. Naval Aviation is told in the first 159 pages, consisting of 6 more-or-less independent chapters. Much of the first 2 chapters seems to be loosely strung together from a published USN chronology (which incidentally is now available on-line at the Naval Historical Center site.) In fact, the entire book is basically a dry recapitulation of sometimes unconnected events with no attempt at interpretation and very little comment. There are plenty of photos, a good portion of which were new to me, but many suffer from extremely poor copy technique. (What appears to be the reflection of a copy stand light appears along the edges, "whiting out" detail.)

The narrative is interrupted by several pages of aircraft serial numbers, personnel lists, etc., that might better have been added to the 26 [!] appendices that make up the second half of the book. Nineteen of these are devoted to accounts of U.S. Naval Air Stations in Europe during WWI and, judging from the footnotes, most appear to be almost verbatim reproductions of USN documents (or in one case, contemporary newspaper articles.)

Good editing/proofreading would have removed some irritants. For example, page 47 has USN ace David S. Ingalls as "Ingots" and adds a "d" to F. Trubee and Henry P. Davison's surname. Worse yet, on page 29, NACA chairman Dr. Charles D. Walcott becomes "Walkout". It's impossible, however, to quickly locate references to these gentlemen or anything else-there's no index.

This isn't a bad book, but much of the information is available gratis at the aforementioned web site or in the Government Documents section of any large library.

It has the feel typical of the Shiffer Military History series-solid, nice slick pages, well made overall, but I suspect even hard core naval aviation buffs will have a tough time justifying the cost for what new information they're apt to find between the covers.

Personal account
Seems more like merely someone's personal account of their own little missteps in life. The self indulgence sounds more involved than does the information offered in the reading. Didn't appeal to what I would call any higher interests.

WHAT ?
"Just order what you wish and it will be brought to you" ? HUH? Where is this writer living? In some fantasy world? Or a world of being spoiled and silly? Sounds to me as if some child wrote this. To me, it sounds like one of those ridiculous magic spells many other writers are trying to pass off to solve little NORMAL problems in life. Life is a gift! The universe is centered around specific universal laws, not around people who claim to demand anything from it. If someone works within the laws of the universe and for the good of the whole, then what is put out will return, but not always in the way they think it should. No human being can claim themselves to be enlightened until they have fulfilled the laws of the universe themselves. Yes what 'goes around comes around' and yes we all 'reap what we sow'. If people would be more concerned with the needs of others instead of constantly being all wrapped up in themselves and what they want or think they are entitled to, the entire planet would be better for it. Cleaning up one's own mistakes in life are far more important than going through life as if one is going to a "restaurant" and expecting to be served simply because one asks and thinks they personally deserve it.

Sustaining Joy
by Shirley Knapp and Nanette McLane

Author, healer and old friend Shirley Knapp with co-writer Nanette McLane have given us
a book/CD ROM combination that puts new meaning into the words guidance,
self-healing and attunement. By enabling us to reach inside, Sustaining Joy and the
companion CD ROM, Developing Your Intuition to Sustain Joy offer the insight to
remember the Truth.

Well-written and easily understood, both lead us back to the world of old. We read, "But
we know that underneath the fear patterns, you are pure Joy, Love and Light." The means
to find these revelations are sage wisdom that absolutely resonates---and exercises that get
you to think and align yourself to determine who you are.

Visualization techniques aid the reader/listener to open the door to your heart. "Allow
yourself to receive the abundance of the Universe. Allow yourself to receive the energy of
Love--true unconditional love--without fear. Allow yourself to receive the energy and the
true love and healing of who you are."

Sustaining Joy and Developing Your Intuition to Sustain Joy open the door to true
freedom, self-unconditional love, releasing of fear patterns and even communicating
telepathically. No small part of the value of this set is the CD ROM written and spoken by
Shirley Knapp. She reviews the chapters in the book, while at the same time, offering the
means to intuition and thus, understanding. Shirley says, "It can change your life", and this
reviewer believes that to be true.

Our world seems more fearful than ever. Sustaining Joy and Developing Your Intuition
to Sustain Joy cut through the fear to let it go because, "The clearer you become, the
more joyful you become." Here is a means to a more powerful and productive life!

There are much better books on this subject than this one.
This book is not very useful. There are numerous spelling errors. The title is really misleading because there is not much meat to the subject of data warehousing. Instead, take a look at "Oracle8 Data Warehousing" by Gary Dodge ISBN 0-471-19952-4

Don't Buy
This book does not meet the needs of a warehousing Adminstrator. The author assumes that the warehousing administrator does not know warehouing and oracle fundamentals. Part I & Part III of the book info can be found in oracle manuals. Part II contains practical issues, but also can be found in performance tuning manuals

A decieving title but good ethnographic content
I was not impressed by this book, particularly by the title. Only a small portion is dedicated to explaining kuru and its causes/effects on the Fore. The rest of the book is an ethnographic description of the life of the Fore, their reaction to kuru, and the ultimate outcome. In short, kuru is a disease of the CNS caused by cannablism (similar to mad cow disease). The studies take place around the '70s, and by then cannablism was on the decline, and resultingly the disease also became rare. This dry read was hard to get through and quite disappointing because of the decieving title. I would not recommend it unless the reader is genuinely interested in learning more about the Fore of New Guinea. It's interesting for a medical anthropologist, but not a casual read.

Incomplete
This book is interesting but seems incomplete. Toward the end of the book the author begins relating a sequence of events, then stops in the middle and explains that she doesn't know the outcome because her fieldwork ended at that time. I found this odd. I would have liked to have read more information concerning Kuru, how it changed the Fore' and (as would be the natural course of the disease if the cause (cannibalism) had in fact been removed) if there are no new instances of the

disease. The book makes the point of attaching the incidence of cannibalism to a shortage of protein in the diet of Fore' women and children. Has this protein shortage been remedied, or are the Fore' merely claiming to have given up cannibalism to appease authorities?

Save your money
I bought this book with the hopes of increasing my PSAT scores from last year. However, after reading the entire text, I realized that I could have read this in sixth grade, and it still would not have been of any use to me. I found several errors in the text. Furthermore, most of the examples that the authors used in the book were simple and incomplete. Initially, when I bought this book, I was worried because of the seemingly complex nine and eighteen week plans. I know of few people who can afford to dedicate over six hours a week for eighteen weeks in addition to their basic responsibilities. However, I tried my best to follow through with the plan. It took me less than a week and much less than the three hours a day that the book suggested. Its main advice, which is to "read widely," was repeated incessantly throughout the entire text. Somehow, I do not believe that I needed to pay fifteen dollars for someone to tell me that. I would not wish this test prep book on my worst enemy.

Don't buy this book!
This book is the worst test prep. It actually has errors in the test that are unacceptable. It caused much confusion to have errors in the test which threw me off. Don't buy this book and save yourself the money.

Icelandic Essays: Explorations in the Anthropology of Modern Life
Published in Paperback by Rudi Publishing (October, 1997)
Authors: E. Paul Durrenberger and Shirley Crisler
Amazon base price: $12.95
Used price: $6.00

Modern Icelandic society for the non-academic reader
Paul Durrenberger is a US-based anthropologist who has made modern Iceland the focus of his academic research. This book is not a scholarly treatise, but rather a first-hand narrative about the author's experiences as he tries to learn the Icelandic language while working on a farm and insert himself into day-to-day Icelandic life. Although it's not exactly a page-turner, since modern Icelandic life isn't all that exciting or weird, this would be excellent reading for someone planning on visiting Iceland, who wants to go beyond the hackneyed tourist sites and learn something about the people. The book's fatal drawback is Durrenberger's insistance on inserting his left-wing opinions about US politics at every opportunity; he doesn't seem to realize that people are buying the book to learn about Iceland, not to get a lecture about US politics.

It seemed like the entire book was about bitterness in people's lives. It was very depressing to read. I threw it out.
