A Reader With Mystery
What is more mysterious than giant creatures that live deep in the sea?
Tentacles! Tales of the Giant Squid grabs the reader from the start. Author Shirley Raye Redmond writes that no one has ever seen a giant squid alive in its home in the deep! And no giant squid has ever been caught alive!

Redmond describes the mysteries and ancient myths about these animals in a tone that keeps the reader reading. Can a giant squid really hypnotize a human? After all, its eye is as big as a human head. Do they attack freighters and snatch men off boats? She explains what scientists know today about giant squids, how they've come to know these things, and how scientists are using whales to try to learn more about these mysterious creatures. She presents facts and lets the reader decide what myths are true or false. She also explains the things we can never know until...one is filmed or caught alive! Redmond writes in a direct style that is understandable for young readers yet highly intriguing. This book unlocks old mysteries about giant squids and presents those that are still unsolved.
The illustrations by Bryn Barnard are beautiful, especially the cover and the two-page spreads of ocean scenes. The illustrations match the mysterious feel of the book. The power of the giant squid clearly comes through. The text and pictures effectively show the characteristics, size, and uniqueness of the giant squid. This appealing book will leave young readers thinking of what they've read and seen long after they've closed the cover.

Heartbreaking
This book was a heartbreaking book to read and knowing it was a true account made it even more so. The reader is grabbed from the first page to the last as they wait breathtaking to the very end, hoping against hope for a happy ending. It's hard to believe such things happen today in America but we are hearing of it more and more. My heart goes out to the author who did a great job of putting her story down and a breathtaking story it was. It read like fiction and was wonderfully done

Great historical romance
In 1886, scandal rocked the New York jet set (or is that carriage set?) with Lily Blakesmore being at the center of the storm. For the outrageous behavior that led to her disgrace, Lily is forced to flee from high society, forevermore to be known as "Crimson Lily".

Ten years later, Lily must return to New York to take care of her newly orphaned nieces and nephew. Lily pretends to be flamboyant in order to hide her inner anxieties. Meanwhile, Morgan Elliot believes that business man and confident to politicians, John Crandall, is crooked. He plans to get the goods on the man and expose him. To accomplish his quest, he takes a job at Blakesmore House, but when he sees Lily and the vile graffiti painted on her wall, he wants to quit the assignment. As Morgan continues to investigate, he becomes obsessed with knowing what really happened a decade ago, since Lily is clearly a caring person. The couple have somehow managed to fall in love with each other, but distrust and betrayal engulf Lily, making it seem impossible for her to share a lifetime of happiness with anyone.

No one does the gay nineties New York better than Linda Francis Lee. Like her previous tale, THE BLUE WALTZ, her current novel, CRIMSON LACE, is a fantastic period piece that brings alive a bygone era. The lead protagonists are charming and wonderful, and the support cast add that city pizzazz to the mix. The historical story line has bits of intrigue to spice it up, turning Ms. Lee book into a must read for fans of Americana romance.

A philosophy for the ages
Thanks to Amazon.com for finding a copy of the book for me. I sat down and read it in one day. The book shows the courage and foresight that Ms. Chisholm had during her political life when women in politics were few and far between. The book needs to be re-printed and used a primer for today's political citizen.

A Must Have Book!!
This book is a must have for anyone visiting London for the first time or for the tenth time. It helped us to find lots of unusual places that would not be found in the "normal" travel guides. It even helped us to know the best times to take the trains, how to save money, and even where the cleanest bathrooms can be found. Maps were easy to read and the historical notes were very interesting. Would suggest this book to anyone visiting London.
