Dyslexia brought home for all to understand.
Shirley Kurnoff has pioneered this remarkable study. It provides for an absolutely enlightening experience, which empowers the reader to best comprehend the very many sides of this common and often debilitating problem. A pleasure to read, and an indispensible tool for accessing resources for dyslexics and their families. Bravo!

The Human Side is the Right Side
As a high school teacher, I have found Kurnoff's book to provide both guidance and comfort. The interviews speak to the many particular issues faced by families looking for answers and direction. The very positive tone of the book leaves the reader with a sense of empowerment. I have suggested this book to colleagues and parents and they all share my enthusiasm and appreciation.

The entire family should read this book
Having been raised side by side with two dyslexic siblings, I wish this book was available years ago. Great stories to relate to, and wonderful tips.

Marilyn boxed.
I've got copy 4066 of this sumptuous (and reassuringly?) expensive package and I thought this review should really detail what you'll get for your money.

ONE: An oversize Kodak color film box, nineteen inches high by sixteen wide and three deep, this is a big facsimile of the box that De Dienes kept some of his Marilyn prints in. The package weighs twelve pounds and will hardly fit any bookcase. The inside has recesses for the two books and one booklet. Black silk tape allows for easy access of the contents.

TWO: A large, beautifully designed and printed, 240 page book of Marilyn photos printed on thick paper. Although the printing screen is not the highest (150 dpi) the photos leap off the page, especially the full-page color ones. Many of these photos seem to be very private shots of Marilyn that De Dienes took during her career (a few show her with other people, a hairdresser and bookseller). Several at the back of the book show Marilyn's face montaged into clouds or surrounded by celestial bodies. Between the photos, printed in silver ink and in a large typewriter font, there are excepts from De Dienes memoirs. Also printed in silver are smaller photos with his hand-written captions.

THREE: A booklet with twenty-four, one to a page, magazine covers featuring De Dienes photos of Marilyn. Seventeen of them are European titles. Predictably, great photos are weakened by logos, cover lines and generally poor cropping. I thought this booklet was rather disappointing in its production.

FOUR: The 608 page facsimile of De Dienes manuscript and composite book. I think this is the most fascinating item in the box because of the production problems. The original pages were typed on one side of a sheet of ordinary paper and this facsimile is on similar weight stock so that the back of each page has some text showing through, as the original (There is a production problem here though, the paper rightly has text show-through but the photos do as well, on the original paper only the white back of the photo would have been visible). Although the manuscript was in black and white it has been printed in four colors to create the aged paper look and the few handwritten numbers in green and red that De Dienes wrote on the photos. You can see all of his corrections and deletions to the manuscript and read the comments he wrote about the various contact prints of Marilyn and other printed ephemera he stuck on back of each page.

The original composite section has a hundred pages (it becomes two-hundred pages in this facsimile) of cut-out contact prints which De Dienes stuck on the typewriter paper, again they are reproduced in four-color black because of the occasional handwritten colored numbers, even the image of the punched file holes on each page is reproduced. Hundreds of these contacts show how he photographed Marilyn and you can see how dozens of shots were taken of which only one or two were probably published. Most of these images have never been seen before and certainly never in the form that they are presented here.

Overall I think the Marilyn Box is an amazing production package. A world famous visual icon is presented in a unique way.

Marilyn Masterpiece
A truly wonderful pictorial memory of Marilyns early modelling years. The photos capture the emotion that exsisted between Marilyn and Andres and are uniquely presented in the large book. The box containing the books is truly one of a kind making the entire publication very special and authentic.

A book for a sturdy coffee table
For the Marilyn fan, this is a great book. The photographs reproduced in the large book are magnificent. The large book is difficult to read with silver ink on white paper, but it is cleaned up excerpts from the smaller facsimile typed recollections of De Dienes. It is heavy, thus a sturdy coffee table is required.

We actually eat at home now!
Most conventional recipes are as long as our weekly grocery list. The culinary measuring divices alone were a load of dishes! It is no wonder we had most delivery resturants on speed dial. The Original 4 Ingredient Cookbook was given to us as a gift. The daunting task of preparing a meal at home is no longer an insurmountable challenge. You look at the page and say "I can DO that!" I recommend this book to anyone who is too busy to "hunt and gather" before preparing a meal.

The best gift to newlyweds and new bachelors & bachelorettes
I have tried many recipes in this book. They are all easy and delicious! I have given this book as an accompaniment to wedding gifts; to both my daughters; to my niece and nephew, and would like to buy more for gifts. I have friends who frequently call me to ask the four ingredients for "my" recipe for Stir and Dump Chicken. Guess they never write it down! Where can I find this book to purchase more?

This book has endured for years.
I'm the husband of the author, Marilyn Miech. The Original 4 Ingredient Cookbook has been a consistent seller for years. Wouldn't it be great if the publisher would republish the book??

To the publisher: please reprint this book.
In total agreement with other readers, I admire this book very much. I wanted recently to buy two copies, one for each granddaughter and lo, it is out of print. Furthermore, I have listed it in the books for children section of the yet-to-be published 7th edition of -Science Experiences for the Early Childhood Year. And I read it to my classes. I hope it comes out in paperback!

Great, and looks like little kids being active!
A wonderful, seasonable drama that involves all the colorful activities that small children are fascinated by, i.e. dogs, wind and leaves, outdoor messes, etc...

Excellent read-aloud book
Shirley Hughes wrote this with a musical ear for language. It is presently my hands-down favorite for reading to my two-year old. It is writing that adults can appreciate for almost haiku-like grace, and that appreciation can be passed on to the youngest readers. The illustrations match the poems superbly, and there are four mural-like double-page spreads, one for each season, that are each pictures the child can wander about visually, and I have had long talks with my son about what he sees in these pictures. An almost ideal children's book in my opinion.

The Persian Cinderella
Published in Library Binding by Turtleback Books Distributed by Demco Media (August, 2001)
Authors: Shirley Climo and Robert Florczak
Amazon base price: $12.40

A Story of Enchantment
I loved this book. And better yet, my 5 year old daughter sat spell-bound, her face inches from the pages, as I read this to her. As I finished the last page, she said, "Let's read it again!" Especially wonderful if, like my daughter, your child is of Iranian heritage. The illustrations are gorgeous and the story magical.

Stunning
The Persian Cinderella is a welcome addition to this classic "rags to riches" tale. Most impressive are Florczak's paintings which absolutely leap off the page (contrary to Mr. March, there are no photographs in this book, Florczak's painings are simply so detailed and lifelike that they are occasionally mistaken for photography). I cannot recommend this book more highly.

A little bit of Scheherazade in Disney's Cinderella
What attracted me most to this book was the clever combination of pictures and paintings. Mr. Florczak seems to have combined Persian models and some photographs, then added his own magic touch to create such beutiful images that are feast for the eyes.

As an educator, I know that many people associate Cinderella with Walt Disney--not Brothers Grimm. Ms. Climo shows us the rags to riches of the same characters in different cultures. This one is particulrly fascinating because the story does not end as we are accustomed to presume.

Yes the girl gets to see her prince at the New Year party but as we know Scheherazade's stories are filled with twist and turns of events like the designs on a Persian carpet. Ms. Climo's art is to tell the story as a native. Here she is the Scheherazade. The Persian Cinderella is fun for those kids who already know the Disney's version. The story goes beyond the Ball.

I liked the Korean Cinderella too. Ms. Climo is as articulate as a Korean grandma and we are little kids too fascinated by the tale to care for a rice cake.

I think the Persian Cinderella is a wonderful read, and since it's produced so beautifully, it's a great gift for any kid ages 2 to 92.

A first-rate primary source
Edited with an Introduction by Marlene Smith-Baranzini, The Shirley Letters: From The California Mines 1851-1852 by Louise Amelia Knapp Smith Clappe presents the contemporary reader with vivid first-person accounts of what it was like to live in the midst of the great California gold rush. Written in the form of letters by a doctor's wife who lived through the thick and thin of boisterous events, The Shirley Letters encompass mob violence, summary justice, a duel to the death, a rowdy July 4th celebration, and much, much more. A first-rate primary source, The Shirley Letters offers especial insight to American history and is highly recommended for both personal reading lists and academic reference collections.

One of the Best Books about this subject existing.
This book is a marvelous true story of what it was like, in California, during a time which will never come again. The author's detailed descriptions and wonderful style of writing takes the reader there, to the Old California, when it wasn't a state, it was a wild untaimed country unto itself. Truly beautiful.

I have one of under 200 original copies, signed by the author, it is my treasure. I am so glad to see it here, offered to the general public. I obtained it just last month, and wanted to share it with every woman, man, child I know! I thought I was going to have to type the entire book just to give a copy to my mother. I thought that because of the small number printed that there wasn't any way I would find another one, but low and behold, here it is, reprinted only this year, on Amazon. A must for any Californian.

Definitive edition of a Gold Rush classic
Dame Shirley's classic (and often humorous!) letters portray the California gold rush in all its excitement and ethnic diversity. At last an edition has appeared that sets her writings in context! Editor Marlene Smith-Baranzini has done students, researchers, and history buffs a huge favor by putting together THE definitive Dame Shirley collection, complete with excellent introduction, interpretive footnotes, maps, photographs, and even a glossary. Reccommended for anyone interested in California history or just in search of a good read.

A wonderful resource of information!
It is rare for me to read a book that in seemingly every page
is an "a-ha" realization...the proverbial "lightbulb effect". I would guess that those who have been trying to cope with or
understand the bizarre behaviors of their borderline loved one will have a similar reaction in reading this book. I commend the authors for their diligent research into BPD and their accurate assessment of this serious disorder.
In my previous relationship, I was sure that everything would

eventually be OK as long as I loved her enough and continued to be patient with her. I knew she was suffering
inside but I didn't know why. Since then, with the help of this
book and others, I have learned a great deal about this debilitating condition. I am grateful to the authors for this understanding of BPD for with understanding comes
added COMPASSION and love for this troubled person.
In my case, I finally began to realize that nobody can "make"
another person happy if that person is not happy inside, and does not begin to take responsibility for their own abnormal thinking and actions. Hopefully,
by the invaluable knowledge presented in this book and by
working together as a loving team, you will have a happier outcome than I.....I hope so.
In closing, I would like to offer what I believe could possibly be the
only real hope for borderlines for it deals directly at the
core of BPD- their dysfunctional thinking (thoughts).
I believe that borderlines can change the way they think and
thereby reduce or eliminate their destructive behaviors. I would encourage you to at least investigate this profound
possibility by reading, "You Can Be Happy No Matter What," and, "The Wisdom Within", and further study the life-changing principles and concepts of "Health Realization" on the web.
I wish you the best!

Thankyou!
This book is an absolute life-saver when dealing with the BP in your life, and how you interact with them. I never realised how completely enraged my BP got me because it was all piling up into problems elsewhere, until doing some of the exercises in here. Now I know where my buttons are, and when my BP is trying to hit them, and different ways that I can deal with this without making the situation worse in the long run. This book is a must for anyone living with a BP, whatever the age.

-Daughter of a BP (18)

How to Reclaim Sanity in Your Life
A tremendous resouce for anyone involved with borderline or other disorders. I can't say enough about this book. It will change your life in ways you never thought possible. I was able to regain my dignity, self esteem and take steps to put me in control of a situation I thought hopeless. Both books, Stop Walking on Eggshells and the Workbook are at the top of the list of the books we recommend at MSN Psychopath forum. There should be a 10-star rating for this one!!

Ahhhh!
I am not a fan of romance, but this book has pushed to purchase more. Great romantic storyline. I didn't understand the relationship between Erika and the old man, but ...

Good Read...
Again, Ms. Hailstock kept me intrigue with the story and the exciting characters. I have a picture in my mind of what Michael looks like, as well as Ericka and all of the other characters. I loved the way Ms. Hailstock included suspense, excitement, love and happiness. A great combination, again Ms. Hailstock, you are an excellent author... Keep up the good work.

Good Book!!
I really enjoyed this one! Again the author shows her writing talent. Erika must have had some type of healing power because Michael does a complete 180 again to be with the one woman that made him see all that he was missing in his life. I guess Erika wanted a man that could face his problems head on, Michael ended up fitting the bill! Go get a copy!

The Warmth and Beauty of Our Lesbian Rabbis
A generation ago, the idea of a woman rabbi would have been unthinkable. Today, we have an entire group of not just women but lesbian rabbis who have become some of the most respected rabbis of our generation. As this book proves, they serve the Jewish community in a number of ways. Bringing disenfranchised Jews into creative, new synagoues, serving traditional congregations and working in a variety of fields helping Jews in ways only rabbis can.

The group of eighteen women who contributed to this book are pioneers in one sense but simply doing a traditional job that has evolved over several thousand years. The Library of Congress created a new category just for this book, but this is also a very traditional work. Exploring the role of the rabbi and how each individual has struggled to serve her community is a very traditional role for a rabbi.

The eighteen pieces included are personal and meaningful. The warmth of many of the women whom I know shines through in their work. The beauty and spirit of Judaism is alive in this first generation of Lesbian Rabbis.

Bookshelf "must" in Judaism, religion, gender/gay studies
What an important new book! The editors--pathmaking and wise lesbian rabbis themselves--have compiled an impressive collection. Understanding the special contributions and journeys of lesbian rabbis enriches immeasurably our knowledge of contemporary Jewish life and the contemporary rabbinate--and the possibilities in both.

important book!
This book is an important part of the historical record documenting Jewish experience--particularly the experience of contemporary Jewish women. The rabbis who contributed essays tell incredible stories. I found them truly inspirational! As lesbians, some of these individuals risked being thrown out of rabbinical school and being fired from their jobs as rabbis. Several paid an extremely high price for their honesty. Others have experienced tremendous welcoming in the the Jewish communities where they function as rabbis. The writers are Reform, Conservative and Reconstructionist, and they were ordained in the 70s, 80s and 90s so when you read the whole book you really get a sense of how things have been changing for lesbian and gay rabbis. I recommend the read!
