A Great Find
I was fortunate to find this book in a secondhand store. I came to Amazon to check for its availability because I want to advertise it on my Environmental Gardening site.

Shirley Ross explores man's relationship to plants through mythology, history, and modern research. The book is easy to read and easy to search, because each story is presented on one page or less, just long enough to be read in the bathroom.

Beth Cannon has beautifully illustrated the stories with pen and ink drawings which are reminiscent of Jugendstil (art nouveau).

Hopefully this book will be reprinted, because it would make a beautiful present for people who are in love with plants or people who have a sense of history.

Poisons surround us, today, more than ever. If you want a concise yet complete work on hundreds of poisons, from everyday items to exotic substances, this book is a must. In my view, no home can skip this one - the information in it can save your life, or the lives of your loved ones or pets. May you never need to use the information contained in this amazing book - but, if you ever need it, better to have it!

WORTH READING
In this novel the authors; Paul & Shirley Eberle, explore the corrupt world of child protection services. They provide a very convincing and intellegent arguement that the very government agencies that are supose to protect children are infact the ones who cause the most harm.

By the end of this novel you will not help but agree with the author's theory that a child abuse industry does indeed exist.

This industry mainly consists of social workers, police, and poliicians. You will find that the purpose of the industry is to find as many "victims" as they can. The methods they use to acomplish this goal are morally bankrupt. They brainwash little children to believe that they have been sexually molested when they clearly have not been. Their motives for doing this are new grants for child abuse clinics, promotions, and politcal gain.

In conclusion I would recomend this novel to everyone. Or more specifically I would recomend this novel to people who are interested in reading about justice or more correctly in this case injustice.

This is a wonderful book
I first encountered this book at my church school library, and immediately identified with Jenny, both of us feeling unattractive and bookish, though she was skinny and I was fat. This book is a story of a young woman's triumph over adversity: difficult family circumstances, near-abuse and drugs. Very moving and incredible read.

One of the best 20th C. biographies
The Portrait of Zelide, a short biography written in the manner of Lytton Strachey, is one of the most compelling biographies of the Twentieth Century. First published in the 1920's and awarded The James Tait Black Memorial Prize, but out of print for more than forty years, Scott's biography tells the story of the 18th Century Dutch novelist Belle de Zuylen (also known as Madame de Charriere). This book is more than a biography; it is the portrait of an age. Zelide was known throughout Europe: her friends included Boswell, Rousseau, Frederick the Great and Benjamin Constant. Scott writes of her both as an important writer caught up in a personal tragedy and as a reflection of the Enlightment period. Geoffrey Scott (1884-1929) is a neglected figure whose work and life deserve more attention. Friend of Bernard and Mary Berenson, Edith Wharton, John Maynard Keynes, Vita Sackville-West, he was the product of the best educational system England had to offer. An architect, esthetician (his most famous book is probably The Architecture of Humanism), poet and the first editor of the Boswell papers, he moved with ease in scholarly, aristocratic and plutocratic circles in London, Florence and New York. In spite of his many gifts and accomplishments, he was never really able to find himself a place in the post-World War I world until a few months before his death. His tragic life is the subject of a new biography, The Life of Geoffrey Scott: The Brilliant Young Man Forever, to be published by The Edward Mellen Press

An excellent historical survey and analysis.

A range of professionals contribute their experiences and insights on obstacles in this revealing coverage.

Principles of Economics

Get through Economics with flying colors
I admit, I'm a bit biased about my mother's book, but I must say I certainly wish she'd written it before I got my degree in Economics at San Francisco State University. It would have been a breeze to get A's in my first year of theory if I'd been using this book instead of the gigantic Samuelson text, even though I had a great 1st year professor (no, it wasn't mom, although she did help some).

Don't be fooled by it's size. This book is powerful learning in a small package. I gave a copy to a 40 year old secretary that was trying to take her Econ 101 course again after dropping it the previous quarter, and she got an A-, hardly even glancing at the text she bought for the course. I've also given copies to friends just interested in the subject but loath to drag a 12lb book around and they find the Kress text a "great read." How many books on economics can claim that?

I understand that this book is now a hot commodity on the used market because students are still using it to supplement or even replace their course texts. They are finding they emerge from the experience with a more solid understanding of the subject than they though possible and finding subsequent study of economics a thing to look forward to rather than dread.

Enjoy this book!

Psychodoor
Published in Paperback by iUniverse.com (August, 2000)
Author: Shirley I. Soper
Amazon base price: $14.95
Used price: $11.95
Average review score:

Psychodoor -- "old-fashioned" sci-fi at its best!
Psychodoor reminds me of the "old" masters -- good solid science fiction, lots of action, good guy (i.e., earthling) wins because of humanity's inherent reasoning-ability, etc. I haven't enjoyed a sci-fi this much since I ran out of Heinlein, Asimov, Bradbury, etc. This would be a good book to take on the plane, you don't need to read 100+ pages before you get to the storyline -- it starts up immediately and never stops! I can't wait for S. I. Soper to write some more!!!
