An invaluable account of a complex but deadly gunman
Glenn Shirley has done an excellent job of collating facts and evidence surrounding the life of such a controversial character as Jim Miller. This book makes a thoroughly entertaining story but should also be acclaimed for its scholarly value. The topic of this book was one of the deadliest gunman in the West's history, yet has never been mentioned in the same way as his more famous contemporaries; Wild Bill, Billy the Kid, Doc Holliday etc.. And neither should he! Maybe it was his cold-blooded methods with which he carried out many of his killings that made Jim Miller a man that people would prefer to forget. Yet as you read this account of his life it is easy to become enthralled by the conflicting traits in his personality. On one hand an outwardly religious man; on the other, a ruthless assasin. At times his actions were at best, cowardly; but at others he showed great courage. By his very nature and deeds Jim Miller could never become a celebrated character of the West, yet he is without doubt one of the most intriguing. The life of Jim Miller is surrounded with mysteries that leaves you yearning for more information about this fascinating character.

Single Domination Review
I enjoyed this book mainly because it took place in my home town of Denver, Colorado. It was a fresh plot that had a lot of interest for me. The story took place in the early 1980's so the history of Denver was preserved in that time frame which was nice. I'd like to recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a nice mystery with an unusual ending.

My Daughter Loves This Series!
My 10-year-old daughter has read a couple of mysteries from this series and is really enjoying them. I paged thru one and was happy to find that the mysteries are pretty mild -- no bloody murderous rampages by weirdos wearing hockey masks, etc. My daughter saves her allowance to buy each new book, and then she lends them to all her friends. A nice mystery series for kids her age!

Great "Healthy" Greek cooking is EZ with Sofi's Direction
This is by far the best cook book in preparing Greek food. Sofi's recipies are light, tasty and easy. Even the native born and raised marvel at the dishes that I have prepared. And Sofi's delightful stories about life in Greece of her family introduce each recipe giving it an even more interesting ingredient, that of the history of the cuisine.

Great pictures, sweet text, a warm and fuzzy ending.
My daughter, age six, loves this book. The first time I read it to her, she watched the pages with wide-eyed curiosity as the story unfolded. What was in the brown bag? This book has a delightful ending that will leave you with warm fuzzies. The artwork is bright and realistic. Your young child will relate to this story... After all, what child doesn't believe his stuffed animals can come to life and talk? This book is a joy to look at and read, a favorite in our home.

A Song Cycle for Harp and Voice
Song for the White Rider is a cycle of 12 songs for harp and voice, based on The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien. It tells the story of the Battle of the Peak and Gandalf's return as the White Rider.

Each of the songs is complete in itself, but the ending of each song is a bridge to the next. The cycle is best played as an unbroken unit, and takes about 30 minutes to perform.

The songs are written in medieval modes - Aeolian (which is the same as relative minor), Dorian, Phrygian, and Lydian. Key signatures range from two sharps to one flat, but the levers are set at the beginning of the piece so that it can be played through with no required lever changes and a few optional ones.

The melodies are lovely. The arrangments are easy enough so it can be played and sung at the same time, or it could be adapted as a harp solo by a more experienced harpist, simply by playing all three staves (melody and two harp staves).

The piece is extremely moving, especially near the end, when it shifts to the triumphant "Song for the White Rider." It never fails to give me shivers up the spine! A must for any Tolkien fan who plays the lever harp.

This piece is also described in Chris Seeman's Tolkien Discography and on the website of Valkyrie Publications.

My first feminist fairy tale
This was my favourite book when I was a kid. It may have actually been the first book I ever read by myself; certainly it was the first I ever stayed up late to read with a flashlight every night for a week (and it only took me one night to reread it each time.) It's about a girl named Soonie who has to save her village from a dragon, along with the three princess it had eaten. Soonie fills the role of the young man in the fairy tales, except of course that she doesn't wind up marrying any of the princesses. I'm not sure that this book was really intended for small children, but I'm glad it was one of my first. It didn't teach me that I can accomplish great things even though I'm a girl; it taught me that I can accomplish great things BECAUSE I'm a girl. That is a lesson I wish more girls would learn.

Christmas isn't Christmas without Sophie!
I received my first copy of "Sophie's Surprise" in 1983. I shared it with my 8 year old daughter. My daughter immediately fell in love with the story and asked to share it with her third grade public school class. The entire class enjoyed the story so much that I purchased a copy for the library. Every year since 1983, the librarian has shared the story of Sophie's gift with the entire school population at their "Fireside Holiday Reading Hour". I continue to read the story to my children and grandchildren. It has become a family holiday tradition. In addition to the beautiful story about the spirit of Christmas giving, the gorgeous pictures and book jacket make this book a great holiday decoration as well.

Rock clmibers
For any rock climber planning a trip to the greater Yosemite area, this book is a must. All the climbs in the book are within a few hours of Yosemite, and it may even help you to avoid the headaches of the valley tourists. I reccomend that you take a trip to The Balls as it is called. This place consists of six or seven granite domes with superb climbing.
