Good for ESL students!
As an ESL student, I find this dictionary very useful and valuable - it is often timesaving without being inadequate. This was a great addition to my reference library, I now intend to purchase another copy for work and another one for my mother. Thanks OUP and staff!

Nature at its bet
We are new kayakers, in our fifties, and have our own kayaks. We read this book cover to cover before setting out on our first expedition. The book not only details each trip with clear maps, but also tells you when to launch according to the tides, what to look for in weather reports, parking and prices, and clear maps. Since we are new, this information made us feel prepared and safe. The authors' natural history and beautifully illustrated birds and marine life helped us identify what we were seeing. Our first trip to Barnstable Harbor was a delight! We knew when and where to put in and how long a trip it would be. We tasted Sea Pickle, walked on the dunes and were prepared to watch out for motor boats. We identified egrets and saw a great blue heron. This is a great guide, not only for paddling, but as a nature guide as well. We keep it in our waterproof bag with the binoculars they recommend having on board. It also has a wonderful resource appendix for shopping or getting more information. This book is worth the low cost investment.

BEST BOOK I'VE COME ACROSS ON THIS SUBJECT
After reading what seems like hundreds of books on this subject, this book just seem to hit the spot. It even seemed to cover my situation - my husband of thirteen years walking out on me and our first child when she was eight months old. It described so many of the little situations that we had gone through with very helpful hints and tips on how the situation should be or should have been addressed. It is simple, practical and straight forward without too much jargon, fancy words and ideas. I liked that when it talked about situations, it divided the response into appropriate age groups of the child eg birth to 2 years, toddlers, young adolescents etc. The advice given didn't just cover everyone but was broken down into specific age groups. It is plain, simple and down to earth. Not only did I thoroughly enjoy this book but after I had finished reading it and highlighting all the passages I wanted to be able to quickly refer to again, I went and purchased a copy for my ex husband and told him he could learn a lot from it.

Simply The Best
This is a "must have" book for practitioners and researchers in nonprofit management alike. The authors provide an innovative and well-written approach to nonprofit business in very readable easy to use form. It is well grounded in both theories of management and community development. It is based on the extensive, global experience of the authors and the best research on what does works and doesnot work in the development of nonprofit business. Most importantly, it provides practical advice for community leaders seeking to escape from the grant trap; and, for business leaders trying to escape the trap of philanthropist of last resort. Partnerships with Business should be in the hands of practitioners of community development and teachers.

Passing Down the Faith
"Passing Down the Faith" is one of the most interesting books of the many I have read. Since the author "tells it like it is," it caused me to chuckle out loud and at other times brought tears to my eyes. It is a real testimony to what God can do through a family that is yielded to Him.

A superb, international collection of botanical art.
This is an excellent collection of botanical illustrations reproduced in very detailed, rich color on quality paper. Artists from all over the world are represented with brief biographies of each one. I think this book is one of the best books to have if you love botanical illustration and would like to see examples done by highly skilled, scientifically accurate illustrators. Just as good or better than the first Shirley Sherwood collection book.

Pediatric Asthma

Pediatric Asthma
Shirley Murphy, M.D. and H. William Kelly, Pharm. D., professors at the University of New Mexico Health Science Center in Albuquerque assembled an extaordinary group of contributers to review the entire subject of pediatric asthma. This incredibly up to date review covers natural history and epidemiology, pathophysiology and relation to allergy, testing and diagnosis, acute and chronic therapy, psychology and patient education, and specific outpatiet, inpatient and intensive care unit interventions with empasis on the pharmacodynamics of each medication in 15 excellent and highly annotated chapters.

This reference is oriented toward the medical professional, not the lay public or parent's of children with asthma. It should be used as the starting point of any future medical review of pediatric asthma.

One remarkable contribution is the inclusion of many tables that summarize the available original literature thus affording the researcher or student the full scope of the previous research. A very complete index of authors and subjects and an appendix of availabe drugs completes this review.

A practical review of growth and nutrition for children with disabilities. Significant space is dedicated to nutritional evaluation in the beginning of the text. This is followed by many chapters for specific conditions that are found in the developmentally disabled pediatric population. The Appendices cover (but are not limited to) the RDA's and the RNI's, several condition specific growth charts, sample records and protocols, and quality assurance standards. Fun for the kids and the adults!
I borrowed this book from the library because my daughter loves animals and it looked like a fun bedtime book. We weren't disappointed! I just took the book back yesterday after having it for six weeks and I think my daughter will be getting it for her birthday!

This book outlines a day on a farm--the farmer goes off to town and leaves the house unlocked. Eight animals decide to make themselves at home while the farmer's cat watches disapprovingly. The biggest appeal for my daughter (almost 5) was the singsong approach a lot of the story seemed to take. She now knows it by heart and recites it all the time! The clocks placed throughout the story have taught her a lot about telling time (an added bonus). We love reading the book to her because the story just flows so well and gets both child and parent(s)giggling.

This is a good wholesome book for pre-schoolers/early grade school children that would be a welcome addition to any home!
