American Drug Index 2001
This book is great for quick reference of brand and generic drugs and theraputics.

Excellent Reference Tool
As a medical transcriptionist, I need a complete and easy to use reference book....I have never found a better one. I like the way it lists the medications, their generics and what illness the medication is used for. My choice of drug books for 14 years. Do not hesitate on this one.

The most expensive because it's the best
I'm a medical transcriptionist and this is the best drug book I've seen. It does cost more than most, but it's because it's the best.

AppleScripting QuarkXPress

Excellent if you have some AppleScript Knowledge
It doesn't get any better than this. I even learned some things about AppleScript that I didn't know before. Between the instructions and examples in the book and the scripts on the CD, you should be able to AppleScript anything that's scriptable in Quark with this book. I also like chicken and tacos, but not chicken tacos.

The best resource around
If you want to script quark then this is THE book to own. I hadn't done any scripting before and the literature from quark is pretty useless for beginners. This book has taken me in wonderfully easy and well explained steps, from a beginner to an extremely proficient user. For quark it is invaluable, and by working through it also helps you understand how applescript structures itself, making it much easier to learn how to script other applications. To put it in a nutshell, this book was for me what the discovery of making fire was to the cavemen.

Applescripting QuarkXPress
I found this book to be an excellent source to Applescript in QuarkXPress. It gives tons of examples along with a CD. Without this book I wouldn't have been able to figure out the sentence structures in Script Editor for the goals I wanted to accomplish. Thanks Shirley!

This book is terrific
Your book is terrific. I have lived with "gotcha press" for years. When I was the Deputy Secretary of Defense, I had to go to the press bear pit on a regular basis. I wish I had had your book before I did that. It would have helped. And the techniques I learned the hard way convince me you know exactly what you are talking about. Great reading.

John Hamre, President and CEO, Center for Strategic & International Studies, and former Deputy Secretary of Defense

Fun to read....Easy to understand
As a community volunteer and leader in the Dallas area, I decided I needed to be prepared to deal with the media if anything "big" happened in my community. You never know when you may be in the spotlight. I found "Beat The Press" fun to read and easy to understand. It has helped me to be prepared in a media event and would be a great resource during a media crisis.

Beat the Press
As a new President of an organization where I occasionally am in need of speaking with the press, I was looking for a fast, easy read, informational, straight-forward book that could help me better understand the media and how to respond to questions more effectively for my company. Beat the Press met my criteria. This book gives you "how to" information that can help those who find themselves talking with the media or needing to send or review press releases. I feel much better prepared. Excellent book to keep readily available.

A book for all lovers of art
When I saw this book I was blown away by the range and quality of the work in it. As soon as I was back at my computer, I purchased a copy for my sister who does botanical illustration. She too was very impressed with it. You cannot go wrong buying this book if you enjoy a) art; b) botanical illustration, or; c) all things beautiful.

A must-have for botanical artists
Have recommended this book to other botanical artists and every one who sees it has purchased it. Full of exquisitely rendered specimens in many different styles of botanical painting. Gives some background on each of the artists, but the real feature is the large reproductions of the art work. An excellent reference book for painters and a beautiful book to display. Don't miss this one!

An absolute stunner of a book!
This is a book of dazzling beauty. The first time that I read it I had to keep trying to remember to breath! This is not a how-to book but a WOW! book. The range and quality of the illustrations is astounding, particularly in view of the large number of pictures and the comparatively low price

For a taste of the truly unique Elric! is unsurpassed.
This RPG has proved brilliant and entertaining for both novice role-player and experienced, for both those familiar with Moorecock's work and those who are not. I'll be the first to admit that the release of 3rd edition D&D has distracted me from this ingenious work of dark fantasy but before 3rd edition came out this system was the only one out of the many I have played in my 12 years of gaming to hold my attention (there are plenty of new rules that cropped up in 3rd edition that look familiar to ones in this book). The system of incresing abilities and skills is much better than the much acclaimed 3rd edition D&D. This game is also a much more "realistic" RPG than anything that TSR or Palladium ever put out. The fact that characters do not gain levels but instead increase their various skill and ablities by practicing them is a BIG step towards working realism in RPGs. There are none of the class restrictions found in other RPGs in this game. You can do what you learn how to do. And for those of us tired of explaining why our worlds are not controlled by the blatantly more powerful elven and dwarven races, this games' human-only content is quite refreshing. There is of course the non-human race known as the Melniboneans but they are little more (functionally speaking) than an eldritch and sorcerous race of decadent humans. My only complaints are that the book is paperback and that more people don't realize it's brilliance. Combat is extremely well laid out with an unsurpassed balance of realism, utility, and entertainment. Even if you do not plan to run the campaign this book is FULL of great ideas applicable to any RPG from personal character quirk lists to a great and novel system of allegiance to the forces of law and chaos. Just beware of those brutal critical hit tables! oof! Feel free to e-mail for general correspondence concerning elric!.

Excellent
Apart from its lackluster art, this greatly original dark fantasy rpg will blow you away. The rules and the setting are easily some of the best in the business. If you play RPGs and are tired of the cliche Tolkienesque fare, this is a must buy!

Appendix
Possibly excessive exuberance aside, I still stand by my last review and am curious about the experience others have had with this game. Email me at my new address, Kaecyy@MochaMail.com, if you like. Blood and souls, baby!

Fortress of the Heart: The Story of Anna

Used price: $3.95

True Grace Under Fire
This novel steps back to the begining of last century and presents a message to readers that spans over the ages."Fortress of the Heart: the Story of Anna" is a non-fiction novel that embraces the incredible journey of Anna Buchanan Coleman with such insight and clarity that the reader is sure to recognize her in a strong woman they know personally.
Coleman-Wells reached with both hands into the colorful tapestry that her mother, Anna, called life. As a result Ms. Wells constructed a masterpiece. This book could have gone several directions as far as theme. Anna Buchanan's life was chocked full of gender discrimination, racism, colorism, abuse, economic disadvantages, struggle for higher education being a minority....the list goes on.
Instead of focusing on negative circumstances that Anna endured, Shirley Coleman Wells plucked the gold thread of her mothers life to immortalize in this book as Anna's legacy...simply love. Out of bitter tears, lonliness, hurt, and abandonment sprang love that was well appreciated by Anna, like a cooling rain after a drought.
This novel, although heart wrenching and tear jerking at several points, celebrates life. The proverbial "calm after the storm" is personified in the life of Anna as a result of her strength, faith, resolution and service to others. "Fortress of the Heart" could have spanned several categories including drama, suspense, horror, romance and educatonal. But undoubtedly, after the last page is read, the reader will surely agree there is only one category that does this book justice........as a classic.

"A True Story of a Courageous Woman"
An inspirational story of how the hate of prejudice was overcome by the love of friendship. A most enlightening, thought provoking book, that touches the heart and soul. This is a must read for adults and children alike.

Keep a box of tissue near you - a wonderful story.
What a story! What heartache she went through and what trials and tribulations to have to endure as a child. Every chapter keeps you crying with her or laughing with her or yelling horray for you Anna. Everyone should read this book to find out what life can really be like with stupid prejudices and then find out how life can be without them. Should be required reading in the schools.

Aromatherapy for Health Professionals

Amazon base price: $34.00

Aromatherapy for professioanals
This is a very welll written book but I feel it is not for someone who has just started exploring aromatheray. The summaries are very helpful. This is not a book you could read in one day for sure. It is full of interesting facts but at times one wants to just get into the healing sections quicker. I would suggeast this book to others but they would do better to get intro books on aromatheray if they are new to the field.

What I was looking for....
I had read several books on essential oils and aromatherapy. Some were filled with anti-Western medicine rhetoric, others were focused on cosmetics, while others contained good anecdotes with recipes interspersed. I use these, but was looking for something else, which I couldn't really articulate.

I haven't finished reading this, but it is exactly what I was looking for. It combines practical application with reasonable science while focusing on healing.

The book is written in the context of the UK medical system, which doesn't match the US system very well, but it isn't hard to generalize the concepts to a different venue.

In the back are several appendices listing the recommendations and summarizing the findings.

Definitely worth the time and money.

Comment from a Health Professional
As a Health Education Specialist it is my job to work with clients in finding ways to improve their health. It is also my job to provide the most acurate health information. I make a point to check and double check any informational source that I might use as reference in considering possible avenues.

I have found this book to be extremely helpful in making such decisions pertaining to aromatherapy. It is full of actual case studies, physicians reference notes, reasonable scientific methodology, and sound references. This is one of the only books that I know of that successfully convinced me of the possible use of aromatherapy with more traditional allopathic methods.

If you should choose to pursue aromatherapy as a means to improving your ailments, I do stress that you address your concerns and your plans with your physician to ensure not only the best possible outcome but, your safety as well.
