This is the book you have been looking for
You've probably read dozens of books on the Kabballah and still you are confused. You thought that by now you would have pieced it together, but all you have are jagged and conflicting fragments. You've asked yourself "why hasn't anyone tied all of this stuff together?" Well this is that one book that you have been searching for. I got this book over a year ago, and, in retrospect, it was the last book "about" Kabballah I have bought. Since then I have gotten only a few source texts, commentaries and translations. Daniel has provided all that you truly need. But, beware! After this book comes the truly hard part--the learning is over and the work must begin in earnest. Think you are ready? Sometimes the searching is easier than the finding! Those with an orthodox bent should probably stay with the Chabad path and their sources. This book is probably more amenable to those outside of the Jewish orthodoxy. But no matter what path you end up taking, you will learn something from Daniel.

I have heard that a new printing is in the works, so be patient. Getting this book could turn out to be the defining moment in your life.

A Masterful Treatise on the Qabalah for Modern Readers
Few books impart the depth of understanding and wisdom in a way that is accessible to the average reader as does Qabalah, The Mystical Heritage of the Children of Abraham.

I have read numerous books on the Qabalah, and have found many to be confusing or inconsistent. Daniel Feldman's book is a lucid account of his mentor's teachings that is universal in its tone. No one is excluded from this work and everyone is offered a place at the table. Any universal system such as the Qabalah should be available to all, and the yogi, Sufi, and Christian should all feel comfortable with this book.

Feldman shares this Western mystical tradition with the world in a way that respectfully removes the dogma of rabbinical Judaism, but maintains the purity of original teachings.

This book, just revised and updated (2003), is a must for anyone interested in the Jewish mystical approach to spirituality.

Qabalah : The Mystical Heritage of the Children of Abraham
The best book I ever read!!!! You can comprehend it all you want, but you won't get it until you don't. Become a Fool and BUY IT!
It's from The divine Fool him self.

LIncolns attitude key to his success
It's clear to the readers of this book that Lincolns difficult time in his early years provided him with his remarkable attitude to forge the ideas in this book. His thinking is clear and relevant and timely. It is helpful for the reader to keep in mind Lincoln probably refered to these pages many times throughout his life to remind himself of the correct choices to make. I think this book belongs in everyones library!

Moving compilation of quotes
Heard the taped version of Gene Griessman's THE WORDS
LINCOLN LIVED BY . . . this is a short but moving
compilation of quotations, followed by insightful commentary
that provides historical context.

In some respects, I wish I had read this . . . there was
much that I wish I could have revisited . . . as it was, I
kept pulling off the side of the road to jot down such
items as the following (so as to be able to share it):

[on diligence] "Half finished work generally proves to be
work lost." No other principle comes closer to accounting
for success than diligence.

[on tenacity] "I expect to maintain this contest until
successful or until I die or am conquered or until my term
expires or until Congress or the country removes me." Lincoln
believed that sticking to a decision once made would
strengthen the individual.

[on conviction] "The world shall know that I will keep my
word to friends and enemies come what will."

[on friendship] "The better part of one's life comes out of
friendships." Lincoln knew how to make and keep them.
He enjoyed companionship and knew how to attract
people.

A Year's Worth of Inspiration...
There have been a small number of books published which attempt to collect in dictionary form the more noted words and remarks of Abraham Lincoln. Archer H. Shaw did "The Lincoln Encyclopedia" in 1950; Caroline Thomas Harnsberger collected "The Lincoln Treasury" in 1950; Ralph B. Winn wrote "A Concise Lincoln Dictionary" in 1959; Fred A. Kerner assembled "A Treasury of Lincoln Quotations" in 1965, reprinted in 1996; and Gabor S. Boritt published "Of the People, By the People, For the People" in 1996.

All of those volumes are most helpful in locating a Lincoln quotation, and Don E. and Virginia Fehrenbacher have compiled "The Recollected Words of Abraham Lincoln" (1996). Of course, this latter study selects the more important spoken words of Lincoln as recalled by listeners who heard them.

However, Gene Griessman has put together an entirely different publication. Although it often quotes Lincoln, the theme is actually to inspire and motivate its readers to make an attempt to imitate the immortal Sixteenth President. In this, Prof. Griessman has done a superb job. His book is outstanding. Furthermore, he has identified the sources for the quotes utilized in each small chapter. All fifty-two units are named after one of Lincoln's noteworthy traits, such as "Determination," "Courage," "Honesty," etc. Not only does Griessman give us Lincoln quotes, but he also weaves each one into a little jewel of an essay on that particular subject. If a reader peruses a chapter a week, he or she will have a year's worth of inspiration.

In addition, this small volume contains "Biographical Notes" on the main figures cited and also a Bibliography of the sources quoted. Dr. Griessman has utilized his background in speaking and teaching the fine art of motivation to write this particular book. He also impersonates Abraham Lincoln for large audiences and has authored numerous books and articles.

Abraham's Heirs: Jews and Christians in Medieval Europe
Published in Hardcover by Syracuse University Press (May, 1999)
Author: Leonard B. Glick
Amazon base price: $49.95
Average review score:

Great books for Graduate Students and serious Undergrads!
I was assigned Glick's book by my Medieval History professor Dr. Paul Halsall. I opened the book thinking I knew a lot about the experiences of Jews in France and Germany in Medieval Europe; and what I found was that I was wrong.

This book is an excellent book about the cultures of the Jews and the Christians, how these two cultures interacted with each other and how Medieval Jewish culture effects the culture of American Jews, who predominately come from these Ashkenazic Jews.

The book is divided chronologically and this division works. It shows the downward spiral pattern of Christian and Jewish interaction that finally hit rock bottom with the expulsion of Jews from France and in England.

I especially enjoyed reading about the devistating effects of the Crusades on the Jewish communitites of the Rhine river region. I was amazed to read that many of the higher Church officials tried to protect their neighbor Jews from the angry and violent mobs. Bishops tried hiding Jews, tried baptizing Jews, and showed real sorrow and guilt when Jews in their communities were harmed.

I also found the history of the evolution of Christian thought about the Jews very fascinating. The early Christians, who didn't even know they were Christians, clearly saw themselves as religiously Jewish. By the time of the writing of the Gospel of John, this has changed. The Gospel of John is somewhat anti-Jewish. When the Christians began using "rational thinking," especially with the creation of Universities, they became even more hostile toward the Jews.

This book is a definate "must-buy" for any graduate student of European history or any serious undergraduate.

I was amazed at my own ignorance
I teach religious high school, and I thought I knew something about the history of Jews in medieval Europe. "Abraham's Heirs" has broadened my knowledge and understanding to a degree that is simply astonishing. Like all really good histories, this one combines compelling primary sources with a clear overall structure. A great read.

Content for a Scholar, Written for a Layperson
This is not the kind of book I normally would have read (regrettably), but it came to me highly recommended. Having grown up in a Jewish environment but feeling some loss of identity and lack of knowledge of my ancestral history, I took the initiative to try to learn more.

Abraham' Heirs unexpectedly had a profound influence upon how I view my cultural heritage in a way I never anticipated. In a chronological and clear -- yet fair -- manner, the text depicts life and cross-cultural relationships and attitudes between Jews and Christians as central Europe developed. Through the progression of events depicted, the book demonstrates marked patterns which evolved across both time and location, which is crucial towards understanding how and why history regrettably progressed as it did.

Many events are quite disturbing, sometimes difficult to grasp in magnitude, but can't be forgotten nor simply glossed over. Importantly, Glick tells it the way things were, which also made it hard to put the book down. His content is exceptionally well-written, easy to follow, and highly informative, making it appropriate and essential for all readers.

Strongly recommended reading for students of metaphysics
Abraham: The Initiator On Spirit, Will And Ego by Judi Sutherland and her husband Larry Sutherland is the fascinating story of a woman's psychic experience and transcendental contact with a spiritual being who identified himself as Abraham. The result of their communication, including answers to some of the deepest human mysteries of experience and explorations into the nature of the Will, the Self, and God, are all recorded in this compelling testimonial. Most of Abraham: The Initiator On Spirit, Will And Ego is presented in a question-and-answer format, with Abraham's wisdom in sharp relief. A riveting metaphysical treatise on the oldest and greatest questions of existence, Abraham: The Initiator On Sprit, Will And Ego is strongly recommended reading for students of metaphysics, psychic phenomena, and channeling.

Review by Bernie P. Nelson
The Spiritual model in this book is outstanding and deserves a top star rating. The authors are highly qualified to present this information. Judi Sutherland has 23 years experience in the health field and is a Registered Nurse with a Masters in psychiatric nursing. Larry Sutherland has a masters in Management/Supervision and has worked with health care programs. The concept and mission of Additive Creations, as the creation source, is connecting to Mind through Will. The model provides a loving path for SPIRIT realization and provides fresh insights into the nature and relationships of SPIRIT, Will and Ego, and provides for the creation of a positive Spiritual reality continuously. The revelations are received through Judi by automatic writing. The message is not a rehash of other belief systems, but understandable information is provided for improvement in daily decisions and living. It's a must read for anyone interested in self-improvement.

Richard Fuller, Senior Editor, Metaphysical Reviews, Oct 01
"Our true nature is SPIRIT, Which is GOD. Unfortunately, we have been diverted from our primary purpose as co-creators with GOD by an error in creation. This error is Ego and it must be dealt with." Thus begins Abraham and the reader's connection to a new and better understanding of who we are, and who we can be.

Judi and Larry Sutherland, authors, visionaries and receivers of automatic writing from the entity Abraham the Initiator, have assembled a body of knowledge that contributes considerable insight into the true meaning and purpose of life. "Ego is attempting to keep us locked into the Illusionary Reality (our world on Earth) and its insanity and SPIRIT is endeavoring to attain our release," write the Sutherlands.

Abraham coalesces many spiritual concepts into a significant new direction in spiritual thinking. It is evident, for instance, that many organized, traditional religions criticize metaphysical ideologies. And metaphysicists shun traditional religious concepts such as Christ -, and even de- emphasize God by calling God the "Universe".

Abraham the Initiator, through the Sutherlands, has depicted a philosophy that clearly demonstrates a relationship between the two ideologies, and that spiritual awakening is the beauty of Abraham. In this time of uncertainty and divisiveness, the people on Earth need to be brought together.

Judi and Larry Sutherland, companions in Spirit, bring us the very old yet very new (to us) means of salvation, peace and happiness. In this reviewer's opinion, Abraham can help actualize the power to succeed!

An excellent channeled book that offers a means to salvation, peace and happiness. How to damp out the Ego to allow Spirit to manifest. Great!

The Boats of Cherbourg
Published in Hardcover by Seaver Books (May, 1990)
Authors: Abraham Rabinovich and Outlet
Amazon base price: $2.99
Used price: $10.00
Average review score:

Superbly written and researched. Effortless to read!
Abraham Rabinovich writes so well that I kept fearing the day I would finally finish reading his masterpiece of international intrigue. The story, for Israel, is not unlike the American "skunk works" ultra-secretive design of the "Stealth Fighter" & "Stealth Bomber" - in that, in near total secrecy Israel revolutionized naval warfare. However, the United States is expected to create technological breakthroughs with the amount of resources availbe to her. In the 1960's Israel's flagship was a destroyer named "Eliat." Like everything in the Israeli navy - the "Eliat" was a 'hand-me-down' from the French Navy. Israel could not afford to add another destroyer to its tiny navy and this created a dilemma. What the Israeli Navy needed was a 'force multiplier' - several fast multi-purpose ships that packed a serious punch. In fact, Israel needed enough boats to simultaneously mount an attack/defense against Syria and Egypt. A young Israeli engineer named Even-Tov became convinced that he could design a devastating sea-to-sea missile that used an altimeter and radar. Even-Tov convinced the Defense Minister - Yitzhak Rabin that he could deliver a sea-to-sea missile, code-named 'Gabriel', within a year. This promise of a "serious punch" was the catalyst for the most intensive weapons system design project the Israel people (let alone the Israeli Navy) had ever undertaken. Israel's future Navy would be centered entirely on a small fleet of "missile boats." Up until this time, only the Soviets had created missile boats. It was only a matter of time before the Soviets shared a few missile boats with Egypt. In fact, Egypt used a "Styx-class" missile boat to sink the "Eliat." The Israeli Defense Force (IDF) sent naval officers to Europe to look for this do-it-all boat on which to place 'Gabriel' along with the hopes of the future navy. They decided, in principal, on a German ship design called 'Jaguar.' The Israeli officer's report would explain that many of the European boats he reviewed were nice but the Jaguar was a "boat made for war." IDF engineers spent over 18 months redesigning the wooden boat to be a couple meters longer and steal-hulled. This book reveals the Israeli geniuses that revolutionized naval combat. If it were only as simple as having the right idea, the right people, in the right place, at the right time - a French embargo was instituted within months of the delivery of the last five boats. I won't reveal any more of the story. This is a wonderful book. I also strongly recommend "Six Days of War" by Michael B. Oren.

The best kept secret in Naval History
The Boats of Cherbourg is a well written, exciting book about a well known but under-appreciated episode in Naval History. Rabinovich does an excellent job of putting the events in the book in historical context: the rise of anti-ship missiles, Israel's struggle for survival, the changes in Naval Warfare. The heart of the story, the dramatic plan to "liberate" the patrol boats, is told in a manner that makes you feel the suspense and the tension the Israelis manning the boats must have felt. A must on any Naval History buff's bookshelf.

Techno thriller -- an admirable story, very well told
If this book had had a press agent, it would have been a bestseller. It has the technical depth of a Clancy thriller -- but it is a true story, based on over a hundred interviews. The battle scenes are especially remarkable. Chess for keeps. The Israelis used a short range "smart" missile against a long range, not-so-smart missile. Each 14,000 hp missile boat had to charge its enemy at full speed to close the range gap, under fire, with many miles to put under the keel before it could realistically open fire itself. An Israeli boat was able to do this successfully by cloning itself electronically, so that the incoming Russian-made missiles "saw" multiple racing targets instead of one. The hair-raising aspect of this primitive countermeasure was that one of the alternative targets seen by the incoming missile was indeed the real, almost completely vulnerable oncoming Israeli missile boat. Put this one next to Hornblower. A classic.

Gem of a book
This small but brilliant volume condenses and crystallizes Jewish thought and Talmudic methods, but one can read it in three hours.

Central to Judaism are Torah and Talmud--which offer democratic learning systems open to all willing to avail themselves. Heschel uses the great Yiddish writer Mendele Moher Sefarim's description of a typical Eastern European Jewish town--"where Torah was studied from time immemorial; where practically all the inhabitants are scholars, where the Synagogue or the House of Study is full of people of all classes busily engaged in studies, townfolk as well as young men from afar...where at dusk, between twilight and evening prayers, artisans and other simple folk gather around the tables to listen to a discourse on the great books of Torah, to interpretations of Scripture, to readings from theological, homiletical or ethical writings...., where on the Sabbath and the holidays, near the Holy Ark, at the reading stand, sermons are spoken that kindle the hearts of the Jewish people for the Divine Presence, sermons seasoned with parables and aphorisms of the sages, in a voice and a tone that heartens one's soul, that melts all limbs, that penetrates the whole being." Study included all: Indeed, a book preserved at New York's Yivo Institute bears the stamp of the Berditshev Society of Wood Choppers for the Study of Mishnah, the earliest part of Talmud.

A Christian scholar who visited Warsaw during World War I saw many parked coaches with no drivers in sight. In his country, he wrote, "I would have known where to look for them. A young Jewish boy showed me the way: in a courtyard, on the second floor, was the shtible of Jewish drivers. It consisted of two rooms: one filled with Talmud volumes, the other a room for prayer. All the drivers were involved in fervent study and religious discussion.... It was then that I... became convinced that all the professions, the bakers, the shoemakers, etc., have their own shtible in the Jewish district; and every free moment which can be taken off from work is given to the study of Torah. And when they get together in intimate groups, one urges the other, 'Sog mir a shtickle Torah--Tell me a little Torah."

European Jews studied in their own language--Yiddish--born of what Heschel calls "a will to make intelligible, to explain and simplify the tremendous complexities of the sacred literature. Thus there arose, as though spontaneously, a mother tongue, a direct expression of feeling, a mode of speech without ceremony or artifice, a language that speaks itself without taking devious paths, a tongue that has maternal intimacy and warmth. In this language, you say 'beauty' and mean 'spirituality;' you say 'kindness' and mean 'holiness.' Few languages can be spoken so simply and directly; there are but few languages which lend themselves with such difficulty to falseness. No wonder Rabbi Nahman of Bratslav would sometimes choose Yiddish to pour out his heart to God."

Heschel's words could easily define the Jewish faith itself. The world he describes was lost in the Holocaust, but the faith was not. This book rekindles it. Alyssa A. Lappen

A Philosophical lesson on Judaism
A short book in size but a great book in content. It is a description of the spirit of the Jews of Eastern Europe, an exaltation of their culture, their way of life, and above all of the high spiritual development of this ethnic group. The author manifests a certain melancholy for days gone by, for a way of life which he believes no longer exists. Lets leave to the present day Hassids to confirm or deny this statement. Beautiful prose, a must for anyone interested in learning about the essence of Eastern Europe Judaism.

DELIGHTED to see this back in print!
If I had to pick just one book to explain my inner life as a Hasidic Jew, this would be it. In fact, now that is is back in print, I shall do exactly that in my FAQ on Hasidic Culture.

Not just about Hasidism, this thin but profound volume, written in such beautifully poetic prose, covers the different types of Eastern European Jews in a way that informs and inspires at the same time. Rabbi Heschel explain so clearly how Jewish spirituality is expressd, not in visible cathedrals, art, or monuments, but in timeless words and values as they are expressed in community through both worship and daily life.

Originally written in 1949, it appears that the author, himself a Holocaust survivor, intended this book to be a memorial to a lost world. Yet 50 years later, the book is as fresh and inspiring as the day it was written. The physical Jewish world he describes may no longer be there in Eastern Europe, but the inner world of religious Jews continues to grow and flourish so that I, as a Hasid in the 90's, can read this book and say, "Yes, this describes my inner life, too!" .

Perhaps, as Heschel himself suggests, this Eastern European "golden age" of Jewish spirituality (his words) can now be fully appreciated by the world. An excellent, EXCELLENT, book! Double 5-stars!

Easy Millions

Not what I thought it would be - It was better!
It was hard to get (I waited 12 weeks). I was expecting a fully
technical manual on stock trading and what I got was something
better. An author who knows the importance of a solid foundation.

You can expect to gain a well rounded view of money and financial
issues, perspectives and of course investing tactics.

Good book, needs a better title!
Easy Millions is an inspirational book with hard facts on making money in the stock market. Abraham Wilson talks about his own experience in business, and explains how a company gets started, gets listed on a stock exchange and of course how-to profit from moves in stock prices.

I certainly recommend this book to online investors. The book is actually 152 pages.

I wish I had this book 6 years ago. What a good book!
This book has helped me so much. 6 years ago I started on a downward financial spiral. About 5 months ago I was deep in debt and losing hope.

Ofcourse I am still in debt but I've paid about 20% in the past 3 months. I'm a more active investor now, protecting my profits and avoiding losses. What I like about the book is you can learn from it fast. Techniques are understandable. I wonder where I will be in about 6 years time.

The book is very simply written, and has bits and pieces of wisdom that you will want to write down and post around your house.

The author is no "Mr. Burns". He has dedicated his life to giving, he explains that much of the profits of his investing is given to charity work or helping the poor or people who are down and out.

I really wish I had this book 6 years ago.

Devasting; THE most jaw-dropping book I've ever read
Readers of this book must be going out of their way to avoid its nightmarish implications; even the author sidesteps them. Indeed, the book is mis-titled. It should properly have been called 'The Great Boycott and its Tragic Abandonment.' The transfer agreement was simply the rationale for the staggering historic blunder whereby Jewish organizations in the diaspora allowed themselves to be persuaded by Zionist forces to puncture the spontaneous and swelling worldwide Jewish boycott of German goods taking place in 1933, a movement with enormous and growing non-Jewish support as well, which, had it been supported rather than undercut by major Jewish organizations, could very well have toppled Hitler from power by the spring of 1934. Not only would this have spared 5-6 million Jewish lives, it would have spared another 45 million or so non-Jewish lives lost in the Nazi holocaust. I once believed like many that the Holocaust led to the fulfillment of Zionism; this book shows rather that it was the fulfillment of Zionism which led to the Holocaust. And it was all for nought. Israel would still have come into being and moreover would have had several million extra potential immigrants to draw from. This book is all about a simply horrific wordwide catastrophe that resulted from an incredibly BAD choice based on ethnic nationalism, and it is made instead to appear as merely a somewhat sordid chapter re. a road to nationhood that featured a few nasty bumps along the way. Mind-boggling!

Amazing Insight into Israel's Drama
This book is an amazing insight into Israel's tremendous historic drama--one obviously overlooked by others. Anyone who reads this book should be prepared for a whodunit style history, with gripping and tragic moments that stay with you long after the book is put down. No wonder The Transfer Agreement continues to thrill and inform people.

History Written Here
I originally read this book when it came out as a Macmillan hardback some years ago. The new Carrol Graf edition has some fascinating new insights by the author as of 2001. Undoubtedly this re-issue was timed to coincide with Edwin Black's other major book, IBM and the Holocaust. Although I have read both books, I am still gripped by the power and drama of Transfer Agreement--must reading for those who to understand the State of Israel, Zionism and its intersection with the Nazis. Powerful reading, this is history written as no one else can.

Alef Bet is a great book
I was surprised at how easy it was to learn the alef bet. This book is excellent! It teaches each letter and the vowel points phonectically. I think this book would be great for any adult wishing to learn the very basics of hebrew. Although I'm sure it would be a great book for children in elementary school also. The only problem I had with the book is that it introduces many words with letters that it hasn't taught you yet. Which makes reading those words difficult. Overall, I highly recommend this book. I plan to buy the next book in the series, Olam Gadol. So it must be a good book! :)

A great book for absolute beginners
This is a great introduction to Jewish life even for a Jewish child adopted by a non-Jewish family. I highly reccommend it to anyone interested in Jewish studies. The best point? It teaches prayer along with the Hebrew Language. I'm looking forward to work on the program's second book. Olam Gadol!

A Good Start
Although I'm an adult learner, I didn't find this kids' book at all inappropriate. The lessons are presented clearly, with pictures and lots of exercises to practice what you learn in several different ways. I learned a lot and am ready to get the next book.
