A True Thriller from cover to cover
If this book were fiction, it would rank up there with The War of The Worlds for exciting reading-BUT IT ISN'T. This insane incident occured and the [people] involved got a very short prison sentence for almost kdnaping the president's body to get a counterfeiter out of jail! I won't reveal anything, but get this book-it's [a good price] and reads like a great mystery, but it all happened in 1879 and its all true and all unbelievable!!

This book deserves a place on the shelves of Lincolniana.
This revised edition of the Great Abraham Lincoln Hijack, story of the 1876 attempt to steal President Lincoln's body, first published in 1990, is footnoted with foreword by Thomas F. Schwartz, Illinois State Historian. Bonnie Speer has made a notable contribution to Lincoln literature and this study deserves a place on the shelves of Lincolniana. It is most readable and factual. Every child should have this book!
I was amazed at the way this author teaches kids about their bodies, but keeps coming back to how "you are NOT your body". It encourages being a friendly and helpful person. In other words, it is about "who you really are" not about your body. A great message to give kids. It also introduces information and gives room for discussion about puberty and death (two difficult subjects for some parents). This author handles it beautifully!!!I like it that the book is spiritual, but leaves room for every faith to teach their child accordingly. I highly recommend this book!

The distinction between body and the individual or spirit
Specifically written and illustrated for young readers ages 4 to 12, I Am My Body, NOT! offers a unique, effective, and very highly recommended introduction to major philosophical and physiological issues including the external physical body; the body's internal systems and their function; the distinction between body and the individual or spirit; the changes of puberty; the death of the body but not the spirit; and the naturalness of human diversity. Written in a "kid friendly" manner and devoid of sectarian proselytizing, I Am My Body, NOT! has the added value of building up a young reader's vocabulary within contextual definitions.

A beautiful wisdom of a beautiful truth of beauty!
The most comprehensive work I've ever read in my life that gets into the very depth of human introspection about the wonder and splendor of reality is in John Navone's scholarly masterpiece! His use of the Sacred Scriptures and human experience is impeccably reflected in his original thinking that beauty is indeed the ground of life's meaning and triumph. Navone's mind is beautiful and everyone must read this book to believe it!

God is happiness itself
The origin and ground and destiny of all human life is happiness itself. We live for happiness. This book shows how beauty is the indispensable guide and light to happiness.

There is no human achievement or excellence that has not been motivated by the inspiration of beauty in one form or another.

Within all the joy-giving experiences of beauty we know something of Happiness itself, or God.

God is happiness itself.

This book is great; and it makes me happy! It made me see how God is Beauty and Happiness itself. Wonderful.

An excellent book
I read this book some years ago and wish that it had not gone out of print. In essence, it is a series of interviews with great thinkers, both traditional theists and scientists and philosophers whose work and thought have led them to consider a traditional God as a reality.

The thesis of the project, and it was borne out by the interviews, is that the leading, cutting edge thinkers in any field are far more likely to consider God seriously than the rank and file who are often still mired in the muck of warmed-over logical positivism and misplaced hyper-rationalism.

This book can have a profound effect on your faith and your life.

This was excellent project and needs to be revisited.

Has the power to dissolve metaphysical homeostasis & ennui.
I was stunned to read the thoughts of truly brilliant minds about life, death, and the infinite beyond earth. This collection of penetrating interviews had a fundamental effect on my belief system. IMHO, this is one of the most important books ever published. I cannot, however, think of any that really compare to it... a strong statement, I realize. This book does not proselytize at all, even though the title suggests otherwise... If fact, the title choice is very unfortunate. If this book had been titled differently, it would probably have been a best seller... All the current "angels" nonsense notwithstanding! READ IT IF YOU CAN GET IT!

Wisdom from a Rabbi who is also a physician
Rabbi Twerski is a remarkable man. Although he is a very orthodox Jew, he became a physician as well as a Rabbi. His field is psychiatry and he combines his two professions to give great advice in short chapters, generally about two pages. This book is a little like "Don't Sweat the Small Stuff," with a twinge of the religious aspect added in. Nonetheless, Rabbi twerski's observations are universal and would be of interest to non Jewish as well as Jewish readers.

High quality and SHORT
The book is full of 1 page wonders with great information of all aspects of life, specifically pertaining to Judaism.

Wonderful!
I bought this book for my niece awhile back and ended up having to buy one for my children. Its a wonderfully illistrated book, so easy for young children to understand & enjoy! My niece spent hours begging everyone & anyone to read her "Just a little bit more...". I highly recommend it to everyone!

Jesus Loves Me Bible
My sister bought this children's Bible for our 5 y/o daughter last Christmas. We have never seen a more comprehensive version of the Bible written for children! The illustrations are bright and colorful and the stories are written in larger bold text so that a beginning reader can follow along as the parent is reading aloud. There are also pertinent Bible verses at the beginning of each chapter. Both the Old and New Testaments' stories are presented in a way that is fun and interesting for your child. The book is thick, but small and easy for young hands to grasp. This book would make a perfect gift for any child to cherish and read over and over again!

Williams Book Judged to be Excellent!
This is an outstanding compilation of thoughtful and provocative essays offered by Judge Frank J. Williams. Anyone with an interest in Lincoln should add this volume to their library. Well written and lucid, Williams provides a highly balanced look at the motivations and actions of the 16th President, with a keen eye to historical accuracy, historiography, historical memory, and balance. Williams, like all good authors and historians recognizes that there will never be a definative word on his subject, but is unafraid to weigh in with his own venture into the fray. As a history teacher, with an abiding interest in Lincoln, I grade this effort a solid A!

Understanding Lincoln:
As much as the title of this book states that people may be judging Lincoln it hardly gives that negative feel. Frank Williams has put together a very well written book which explores Lincoln's motivations, desires, thoughts and how he managed people. Williams brings us interesting insight into the man where myth sometimes tells the wrong story. Viewpoints on how Lincoln managed Union commanders, political opponents, slavery issues and people is really what this book covers. Williams treats his subject quite fairly showing both sides of the stories in which controvercy over Lincoln's actions have resided. This book was a quick read although very enjoyable. If you are a Civil War fan, you should consider this book as much is written. How Lincoln handled popular generals such as McClellan, Meade, Hooker, Burnside and others was very interesting!

What a great concept.....
My friend and I read this book while waiting for our food two summers ago, at a Friendly's in Providence Rhode Island. The book gripped us, and to this day we still talk about the story that changed our lives. If we hadn't taken that vacation, and hadn't chosen to eat at Friendly's, today we would be different people. I Love this book and will devote the up comming summer to finding a copy of it. Perhapes I will retrace my steps to Providence and reread the book that now is just a memory. I don't know if the book is still there or if that Friendly's is even still open, but my summer memories will live on as long as I remember the plot of this revolutionary book. Steve, you know it.

Just Like Abraham Lincoln
Mr. Potts not only looks like Abraham Lincoln but is a confirmed Lincolnphile who shares many other attributes of Mr. Lincoln's with his young neighbor who in turn shares Mr. Potts with his schoolmates for a special program on Lincoln's birthday. A clever story that presents pertinent facts about a beloved president to young children. As an school librarian I enjoy reading this to kindergarten students for Presidents Day.

packed with interesting information
Anybody interested in politics and the Supreme Court is bound to be enthralled by this book. It is I suppose mainly a reference book but I read it cover to cover in less than two days. It includes a number of ratings of Presidents, and also ratings of Supreme Court Justices. Each person nominated for the Supreme Court is described, together with a sketch of his (or her) work on the Court after confirmation. Some may disagree with some of the judgments, but in general they resonate well. This is a great book. I noted a few errors and will list them, tho they are minor. On page 189 it is stated that "the key slogan of Eisenhower's campaign in 1952" was "Had enough?" That was the Republican slogan in 1946. The slogan in 1952 was a much milder one: "I Like Ike." On page 345 footnote 14 lists the Senators who voted against Senator Hugo Black's confirmation as Justice of the Supreme Court, and names one of the six Democrats who voted against him as Burke (N.H.) This is an error; Burke was a Senator from Nebraska, not from New Hampshire. On page 364 footnoe 63 gives the citation for United States v. Eichman as 496 U.S. 310 at 4776. This is an obvious error, since no opinion goes on from page 310 to page 4776. I have not checked the page number of the language quoted, but it is not on page 4776 since no volume of the U.S. Reports has that many pages. But these minor errors do not mean the book is poorly edited. In general the editing is quite good. This is a book that any person interested in the Court should own.

Excellent Intellectual Work on the History of the Court
Professor Henry J. Abraham has long been recognized as an expert on the Supreme Court's history and federal judicial appointments process. His book, "Justices, Presidents, and Senators," is newly revised to include information on President Clinton's nominations to the Court (Ginsburg and Breyer). Professor Abraham provides insight on some of the top contenders for the High Court, the politics and process of evaluating potential Supreme Court Justices, and enlightens the reader on the contentious battles before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Professor Abraham examines the Supreme Court appointments process and why certain individuals were selected over others. For example, Justice John Paul Stevens, who was nominated by President Ford (Republican), was chosen in part because he was "confirmable" by a heavily-Democratic Senate, especially in the Watergate aftermath. Justice Sandra Day O'Connor was originally considered by President Ford for the seat currently held by Justice Stevens, but President Reagan nominated her instead several years later. Another example of political strategy and perfect timing is the elevation of Chief Justice William Rehnquist and the nomination of Justice Antonin Scalia. Both of their contributions to the decisions of the Court has impacted, to some degree, the workings of the lower courts and the federal judiciary's original understanding of the Constitution and how that should play when decisions are made.

This book's latter sections are divided by the tenure of several Chief Justices, starting with Earl Warren. I find these sections thoroughly fascinating. The last fifty years for the Surpeme Court has arguably been the most interesting period of time since the founding of the Constitution. Beginning with Brown v. Board of Education, the Court has exerted more power and significantly more influence that is more widely recognized in today's society. Professor Abraham details the individual Justices and their famous (and infamous) contributions to jurisprudence and understanding of the Constitution. This book also contains some statistical information on the ratings of Supreme Court Justices and ratings of Presidents in its appendix.

I highly recommend this book not only for academic reasons but for personal reasons, as well. Many Americans have misunderstood the role of the courts and their jurisdiction. I think this book is a fair attempt to dispel some of those misunderstandings. The book is not written from a perspective of a bitter partisan or a politician attempting to deceive Americans (unlike Alan Dershowitz).

Overall, this book provides a fair and balanced approach to the Supreme Court, its appointments process, and significance it plays in American society. This is one of the best books on the Supreme Court I have ever read.
