The Greatness of Schneck
The contribution by Carson D. Schneck, MD,PhD to this book was great. However, Dr. Schneck cannot be fully appreciated unless you actually hear him speak. He brings a great passion to the field of Anatomy and Radiology that most people simply lack.

A wonderful, inspiring book.
This book is a wonderful book for Orthodox Jews and the general public. It includes quotes and explainations of those quotes from many Chassidic Rabbis that are inspirational. For those who like "pick me up books" this will be an interesting book whether you are Jewish or even interested in Judaism or not. For those interested in Chassidic Judaism it can help give some input into the mindset/outlook.

Beautiful book with fast historical information:
A series of plates with page-long descriptions makes this book both beautiful and informative. Magritte's mysterious and thought-provoking paintings are captured in too-real color, and Hammacher's accompanying comments for each are both witty and insightful. It's hard to put down! There is also a nice biography of Magritte's life beginning the edition; one can feel like an expert easily. Finally, the large size and sturdy cover contributes to why the book is one of my favorites for the coffee table.

River Road a Story of Abraham Lincoln

Meridel Le Sueur tells the story of Lincoln on the River
At the end of "The River Road: A Story of Abraham Lincoln," Meridel Le Sueur tells us: "So this is the story of a few months in the life of a boy in the middle country becoming a man--when the sapwood of youth darkened, toughened, under strain and pressure, was fired, made stout and hickory-yielding. Men and nations are made by the firing of such days in their lives."

In 1828 Abraham Lincoln took a flatboat from Indiana, down the Mississippi River to New Orleans. La Sueur takes that journey and makes it a crucible in Lincoln's life. The boy in this story is seventeen years old, chaffing at having to live in a crowded cabin, eager to find out what there is to learn in books and from talking to other men, and eager to get out into the word and make something of himself. This is also the Lincoln coming to terms with deep thoughts on the subject of slavery.

"The River Road" is told in a style that can only be characterized as poetic prose, which rings true even more than Sandberg's celebrated biography. The effect is a portrait of the raw Lincoln who has more in common with the trees he chops down with his ax than with the eloquent orator of Gettysburg. "Much of his history you know," La Sueur tells us, "but you can always as you grow have more knowing, see this great live oak of our history more clearly." I have read dozens of books about Lincoln, and he has never felt more real to me than he does in this compelling wilderness tale. "River Road" was originally published in 1954 and was reprinted by Holy Cow! Press with 1991 woodcuts by Susan Kiefer Hughes.

a complete textbook on pediatric problems
This is the book every post-graduate ought to read during residency days in pediatric ward. It helps boost clinical acumen by making diagnosis at the bedside with a very logical approach. It is excellent while describing the diseases of kidney, heart and nervous system. After going through the chapters in detail it infuses a kind of confidence in making diagnosis; and coming to differential diagnosis for a number of presentations of various illnesses. Sometimes, i feel it is a must not only for dealing with complicated and day to day problems but for passing examinations too.

An Insuperable Faith, An Indomitable Man
I am so indebted to this man that I do not know where to start. Abraham Kuyper was truely a man after Gods own heart. I've heard it said that "if you want to know the mind of God you must learn to use your own"; Abraham Kuyper did both, and did so indomitably. His "Sacred Theology", although written over a hundred years ago, stands monumentally in its fecundity from within the Reformed theological tradition. It remains unparalleled by any other "systematic theology" both then and now and provides an insuperable explication and defense of Reformed Confessional Orthodoxy.
Written during the ascendancy of modernism and so-called "higher criticism" its relevance for todays high noon of modernity, or its "red headed" step child "postmodernism", is nonetheless trenchant.
This work is just as Theologically/Philosophically and Sociologically/Anthropologically sophisticated regarding todays cultural milieu, and the redemption to be found in Jesus Christ, as it was for its own. And Kuypers "Worldview" hueristic offers a systematic and critical apparatus for engaging every area of thought and life Christianly.
Abraham Kuyper was a man that was way before his time. God chose to use this valiant brother then, and through this work -even now.
This is a must read for anyone that is committed to being more than equipped (both for today and tomorrow) to guard the "Trust" that has "once for all been delievered to the saints".
Abraham Kuyper stood for the Truth, now that same Truth stands for him and us. Thank God !

the most open and civil of freuds disciples
karl baraham came from and old hansiatic family , well established in the merchant class...he was born in 1879 in breman and received a quality early education...he studied medicine at several german universities, studied with jung at the burghosel in zurich and there became acquaintesd with the writings of freud thru his association with jung.....he appears to be a man who was very observant and insightrful and applied whjat made sense from his study of the current psychoanalytic theories of the time...also open to reformulate hie thinking from clinical work...his achievements include the establishment of the berlin psychoanalytic instsitute in 1920..and having under treatment such formatable figures of early psychoanalytic endeavors as karen horney, helene deutch, and others...unfortunately he died form an infection contracted during the great war..and was in poor health from that point on...however he continued to do clinical work and contribute to theory building until his death in 1925, at age 48...he was characecterized by earnest jones in his memorium as a civil, gentle man who could bring together disparate factions of the early movement...his most significant achievement in my estimation was his adherence to the seduction theory that freud has dismissed ..abraham is truly a giant in the formative years of the art and science of psychoanalysis...

Literary Lincoln without Sidekick Speechwriters or Dumbdowns
This book chronicles not only texts of key speeches showing the evolution of Lincoln's view of slavery, but also insightful letters revealing some private thoughts of this shrewd railroad lawyer whose ambition propelled him to heights that made him the best President our Republic has ever seen. The 1838 Lyceum speech of Lincoln's youth gives stunning insight into that ambition. This book supports the notion that Lincoln was also the greatest writer to ever occupy the White House, revealing an impressive variety of literary styles, from meticulous legal argumentation to a dry, concise wit. In light of Lincoln's literary legacy, it is no wonder that each President since Woodrow Wilson has deemed the aid of professional speechwriters vital to their strategies. And even with the professional help the modern chief executives have gotten, Lincoln's rhetoric remains the most sublime of all our Presidents.

A Politician¿s Primer
The "Selected Writings and Speeches of Abraham Lincoln" is an anthology of speeches, letters and telegrams that he wrote from his reputed first political speech in March of 1832 to his last public address on April 11, 1865 just four days before his death. Over the thirty-three years of writing, we are able to see the Great Emancipator's writings change.

Lincoln had one of the toughest presidencies to date. He ran for office when the Union was at odds, and would soon see his country divided just before he became president. His stands on slavery took a back seat to reuniting the Union. As time went on, you can see in his writings how his job of bringing a country back together, and peace to the land, wore on him. Lincoln was obviously physically and mentally tired by the close of the war.

Editor T. Harry Williams provides a great introduction that covers the course of Lincoln's career and the special issues he had to face during that time. He also begins each of the seventy-six pieces of Lincoln's work with a short note that gives enough information as to the context and history of the writing. Of the writings, I found the response to Senator Douglas (1854) very interesting and intriguing as well as his communiqués with his generals during the war. Of course, this anthology also contains the Gettysburg Address and his inaugural addresses.

Lincoln was a powerful writer that focused on the issues that the public was concerned about. His writings were almost poetical, and, at times, full of passion. There is no doubt from reading his speeches and letters that Lincoln loved his country. This man could say more in a ten-minute speech than today's politicians can say during a whole term. The speechwriters of today should revisit the speeches of this great writer.
