The Best Book I Have Found On This Topic
This book is the best and only book that I have ever read that documents the connection between eastern religions, meditation and the Torah. I am a Rabbi in Santa Monica, California and Yoga and Meditation are very popular with many Jewish people here. I think that if more would read this book, they would be amazed to find that much of these techniques stems from Judaism and Kabalah.

God Fleshed - a Map for Exploration, and Thought
Roy Varghese, in his previous works, has successfully been able to interface science, philosophy and religion; he has combined history, myth, and theology and proved that faith and reality can walk hand in hand.

In God Sent, Varghese showed us the Virgin Mary in words and art through the historical and approved apparitions of the Catholic Church. That book is a picture of the Mother of God few have seen before.

In God Fleshed, he chronicles the comings of Christ. He draws on the rich content of the scriptures, tradition, and recorded history. He outlines the Jesus of history, the Christ of faith, and portrays, through the mystery of the Eucharist, a man-God who is incarnated and dies in ignominy for humanity. Varghese draws from the New Testament narratives, including present academic discussions, the pre-Christian universe with a focus on various traditions, the wisdom of the great Councils of the early Church, the accredited visions of Jesus to the saints of the Church, and the mystery of Eucharistic miracles where the bread of the altar takes on provable characteristics of flesh and blood.

Color illustrations of some of the famous Eucharistic miracles baffle us. Tempted to scoff, our disbelief encounters the scientific and rational discussion Varghese provides and comes out of the fray a poor contender. The incarnation did not take place in a vacuum. Then as now there were a multiplicity of religious beliefs; we face the question of reconciling what our senses tell us with the claim that Jesus Christ is the definitive revelation of God in history. In God Fleshed, Roy Varghese writes a map for us to explore, and invites us to attempt this reconcilliation. If nothing better, he has presented us with a "good read" and an opportunity to "think" about the known and the unknown.

What evolves is an excellent portrait of Jewish life and times.

Excellent resource -- entertaining to read
I might not camp out a lot, but I do love my barbeque! And this book satisfies that, with delicious recipes you can make on an indoor electric grill or on your deck. Even better, you don't need a grill for the side dishes, salads and dressings and desserts. I love the cornbread recipe and the Rocky Road Fudge is to die for! Easy to read. Binding lays flat so the pages don't turn while you cook. It's become a staple in our house.

Herndon's Informants: Letters, Interviews, and Statements About Abraham Lincoln

A Masterpiece in Scholarship
In the preface to his "Life of Lincoln", William Herndon expounded that when writing the history of Lincoln's early life "the whole truth concerning him should be known" and there should be "nothing colored or suppressed." Having set the standard Herndon failed to follow it, for there were something's even Herndon must have felt should not be put into print. Scholars wishing to explore Lincoln's early life beyond the insights offered by Herndon's biography had to turn to examining the letters and notes collected for over a twenty year period by himself and his collaborator Jesse Weik. This often proved to be a daunting task. As the editor's in their introduction noted even though available on Micro roll film specific documents are "very hard to locate" and even if located are "very hard to read." To further complicate matters the index to the Herndon collection prepared by the Library of Congress is "neither accurate nor complete." What Editors Douglas L. Wilson and Rodney O. Davis have done in their "Herndon's Informants" is to transcribe all of the known Herndon, Weik letters and notes into a readable and properly indexed Documentary Edition. What they have also done is create a masterpiece of scholarship that will be used by students of Lincoln for decades to come. "Herndon's Informants" offers the student the complete Herndon collection, unabridged and un-editorialized. To anyone who has a strong interest in learning more about Lincoln's early life this is just about all that is available and it simply must become a part of your personal library.

Excellent textbook for histology students
I would recommend this book for anyone taking histology in medical school or undergrad. I am a med student and found this book much easier to learn from compared to other textbooks I have read. The author writes in a fashion that enhances learning. The pictures are also very good and helped me to further visualize the types of epithlia. I studied from the following which is also on amazon.com:
Histology Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers by Patrick Leonardi
This second book was so amazing because it had the kind of questions I saw on my histology exams. My study group and I used both these books and we all passed with ease and with less study time. Time is money. It's better to invest in a couple of excellent books than to take a $2500 class all over again. I give both books 6 stars!!!!!

This is an excellent and comprehensive reference book on the Holocaust. It is clearly written and has a well-balanced mixture of tables and figures. In my opinion, it should be part of the collection of anyone who is seriously studying the Holocaust.

Young Readers Will Learn A Lot!
The perfect picture book biography about Lincoln. With bold, colorful illustrations the illustrator allows the author to cover dicey parts of Lincoln's story (ie., assassination) by portraying the subjects with folk-style looking characters. For example the scene where Lincoln is shot is appropriate for young kids to look at as it is not graphic nor bloody. Somehow, it works and allows for a discussion about how Lincoln died and why he died.Outstanding effort! Plus the book is bigger than average picture books!

get Hooked
This is Pauline Kael's ninth collection (and eleventh book) and it covers her film reviews from The New Yorker magazine from July 1985 to June 1988. In her author's note she claims that the period begins lamely then suddenly there's one marvellous movie after another. The films she praises here include Secret Honor (she has long been an Altman fan), Dreamchild, Under Fire, My Beautiful Laundrette, Blue Velvet, Something Wild, The Stepfather, Prick up your Ears, The Dead, and The Unbearable Lightness of Being. The ones she pans include Cocoon, the notorious Heaven's Gate, Year of the Dragon, The Color Purple, Shoah, Revolution, Platoon, Ishtar, Ironweed, and Empire of the Sun. She also reviews 2 books - Paul Coates' The Story of the Lost Reflection and Katharine Hepburn's The Making of The African Queen. As always, she can make me laugh. Movies that are consciously life-affirming are to be consciously avoided. There's a price to be paid for being likeable in a TV series week after week, year after year: the only thing that can save Alan Alda now is to play bastards or weirdos, preferably in a heavy disguise. It would take a board of enquiry made up of gods to determine whether this picture (Heartbreak Ridge) is more offensive aesthetically, psychologically, morally, or politically. And, I'll probably be chastised for being a woman finding fault with a war film, but I've probably seen as much combat as the men saying "This is how war is".
