Outrageous rip-off
I cannot begin to convey my contempt for L.W. de Laurence and his bootleg editions of many occult texts. This is one of his more outrageous and ironic productions. His Great Book of Magical Art, Hindoo Magic & Indian Occultism (1915) was a [copying] (without acknowledgement) of Frances Barrett's The Magus, or Celestial Intelligencer (1801), which in turn is a [copy] of Agrippa's Occult Philosophy and de Abano's Heptameron. Besides substituting his name for Barrett's, and substituting a large photo of himself for Barrett's, de Laurence's contributions consisted mainly of altering some of the Hebrew sacred names of God for fabricated pseudo-Hindu sounding names such as replacing Barrett's (and Agrippa's) "Schemhamphorae" with "Zinkuminbujia." Similarly "Abraham" became "Athumech", "Trithemius" became "Kukuzuima-Munkinximaki" etc.!

Barrett at least added some value to Agrippa's classic by providing high-quality engravings, and abridging some of Agrippa's sometimes tedious text, but de Laurence's changes were only...corruptions, designed to promote himself and profit off the gullible. Spare yourself and buy Agrippa.

The Insider's Guide to Successful U.S. Immigration: Discover How to Make the New Immigration Act Work for You

Don't use this outdated book. Immigration Law has changed!
The reason I am writing a review on this out of print book is so that someone doesn't buy this book by mistake at a used book store or borrow it from a library. I have owned this book for a long time and never got around to getting rid of it till recently. When it was published, it was one of the few books that was so comprehensive and helpful. But since the publication of the book, U.S. Immigration Law has changed so SIGNIFICANTLY that it would be a mistake to refer to this book for any immigration related issue.

A better book would be Allan Wernick's 'U.S. Immigration & Citizenship'. He also has a website...where he posts his interpretations of the latest updates to the U.S. Immigration Law. His book utilizes examples very extensively to illustrate different aspects of the law. For more immigration related books and information, read my review on that book.

Good luck!

Who Cares?
For all those Carson groupies who enjoy reading uninteresting anecdotes about a boring, arrogant, cliche-spewing, polyester-clad windbag, this will be a fascinating read; for everyone else, it is a total waste of time.

Very Disappointing
I thought this book would be sooooo good! It was on my wish list for the longest time and I finally got it about a week ago. Now I wish I didn't! Personally I thought it was a waste of money. A girl getting rescued by her loner admierer, forms a "bond" with him etc, etc. But througout the book, the character Helen, keeps having these dreams about her little rock star idol all through the book. She later becomes in a coma from an accident and has her dreams all through the coma. The ending was horrible and disappoing, and besides that, I found never ending mistakes throughout the book! I wouldn't waste your money.

The Peter Prescription; How to Be Creative, Confident and Competent
Published in Paperback by William Morrow & Co (August, 1974)
Author: Laurence J. Peter
Amazon base price: $2.45
Used price: $1.29
Collectible price: $6.00
Average review score:

Very disappointing and boring
I eagerly purchased this book, because I had found the Peter Principle to be a 'five star' delight. But, where the first book was distinguished for its wit, creativity, and originality (particularly with its being so in contrast to the 'positive thinking' approach), this one is stale and boring.

Peter borrowed the same tired self-help adages that one could find in any second rate magazine, throwing in the usual advice about the 'new food pyramid' and exercise. It was as far from original as it gets, and seemed to cater to current trends and cliches rather than demonstrate the least creativity.

Porsche 911: Model by Model

Author: Laurence Meredith

Used price: $14.50

Misleading Title
This book is NOT a model-by-model look at the 911, as the title claims. It is a book about the people the author wants to impress us with his knowing, and the Porsches they own. As in, "Once owned by Led Zeppelin's manager. . . "(p. 111) or, "Matt Butler is a record producer. . .[who] has worked with Sir Paul McCartney. . .(p. 125).

There are no helpful charts and no examination of the changes in the 911 over the years. But there are whole sections on the 914, the 924, the 928, and the Boxster, having nothing to do with the 911. Of course, there are lots of color photos. If you want to look at nice color photos of Porsche racing cars, 924s, 928s, Ferraris (that's right), and the occasional Lotus, this is your book. I'm returning mine; it's useless.

Red Capital
Published in Paperback by NAGA Publishing, Hong Kong (02 February, 1998)
Author: Laurence J. Brahm
Amazon base price: $20.00
Average review score:

The worst book about Hong Kong's transition (in English)
If you believe that Human Rights are going to get better in Hong Kong now that the "Colonial oppressors" are gone and the "Motherland" is back in control, then maybe this is the book for you. (though I would suggest a book that takes an honest look at China's recent history be chosen instead). If you are looking for a more serious and accurate one then you need to keep looking. If you can read Chinese, then it would be better to find a book just like Brahm's for much less money published within the PRC.

Out of date....
Good book but totally out of date. A waste of money for students. Too many chapters that are boring to read and does not have any link to today's sports environment.

Zhu Ge Liang's Art of Crisis Manangement for China Joint Ventures
Published in Paperback by NAGA Publishing, Hong Kong (03 March, 1998)
Author: Laurence J. Brahm
Amazon base price: $20.00
Average review score:

NOTE: this book contains no advice on crisis management
I am sorry to report that nice sounding titles and all the glitter of a consultant moved me to buy all of Laurence Brahm's books and all of them were quite unhelpful. If I were to rate one as the worst however, it would be this one. It is nothing but quotes from Zhu Ge Liang followed by stories of joint venture crisises that have no tangible principle to learn from or even much in relation to the quote itself. Worse, that is all there is in this book. It has no real advice to give on crisis management, and you will not find it in Zhu Ge Liang's fortune cookie prose either.
