Good background
Overall, I enjoyed reading this book full of enlightening and memorable anecdotes. The book makes the sources of Argentina's instability and anti-Americanism very clear. However, it would be more accurately entitled "Inside My Career in Argentina." Don't expect to learn much of the inner workings of Argentina's government. This is really the memoir of an international corporate lawyer who had business dealings with Argentina. Foreign policy flare ups affected the deals he worked on, and he tells Argentina's history through that lens. As important as Peron was to Argentina's history, Levine only met the man once and covers that in less than a page. Nor will you get much insight into Menem. It's an enjoyable read as Levine had a rare opportunity as a Harvard Law grad representing Argentinian companies at that time. (No doubt today Argentina's elite sends its own kids to Harvard to later represent them in the U.S.) It's a career experience worth recounting, but it isn't truly an insider's view of Argentina.

An Introduction to West Indian Poetry

Understanding Anglophone Caribbean Poetry
Laurence A. Breiner's text, An Introduction to West Indian Poetry, is an important resource to the field of Caribbean Literature, specifically, and World Literature, generally. While the book is seen by many scholars and reviewers as a major resource for scholars "new" to the discipline, the text provides a solid, if cursory, historical base for those who touch upon the study of Caribbean poetry/literature in World Literature and Culture classes. Breiner has given the scholar a departure point for further historical investigation of the literature. More importantly, this work should urge scholars to put down their "historical shovels" for a while in the pursuit of a more lucid aesthetic understanding of Caribbean poetry. While the canon of Caribbean poetry dates back to the 18th century, there is still a limited body of critical work on Caribbean Poetics. Perhaps, Breiner's synthesis of the literary history should assist in moving scholars beyond further historicizing into aesthetic and theoretical arenas of investigation.

Killer Bees
Published in Paperback by William Morrow & Co Paper (October, 1990)
Author: Laurence Pringle
Amazon base price: $6.95
Used price: $20.00

I never thought I'd find a technical book so intriguing.
Pringle is a notable author, especially of biological and environmental books, and has studied wildlife conservation at Cornell University and the University of Massachusetts, where he earned a masters degree. His non-fiction, science book has elements resembling plot and character that can hold a reader's attention. From the origins of bees and their different types, to the myths about them, and the advance and fights against killer bees, this book explains simply the details of this insect and the phenomenon of its migration. Killer Bees is highly readable, with illustrations, italicized new words, and a message design that eases comprehension. Supplemental sections include "For your safety," a glossary, and "Further Reading."

A collection of classical and major articles on KM
This book is a collection of fundamental articles published in academic reviews (the titles of the chapters do not correspond with the published articles, it may confuse the reader). Yet for academics many texts are well-known, for practitioners they laack of managerial recommandations. Nonetheless, the selection is good, it includes the major text of Polanyi on tacit knowledge which is almost impossible to find elsewhere. I recommand this book for scholars, managers who need a theoretical review of litterature, and teatchers looking for a basic and comprehensive book for a knowledge management class.

Fascinating
This book discusses Olivier's choices as an actor and director for the trio of Shakespeare films he made. The first was Henry V, the second Hamlet, and the third Richard III.

I am not a film student and for me this was a fascinating look at how Olivier helped achieve some of the dramatic impact of these films through various cinematic devices. I am not sure if it's something that would be obvious to someone who studies films or not. My sense is that they would not learn as much from this book as I have.

Additionally there are comments on how Olivier altered Shakespeare's scripts and read certain lines as an actor. This is not quite so useful as it's easier to reference that information, and I was familiar with most of the major changes made.

Since reading this book I have watched Richard III again and was amazed to see how many things I had not noticed in my more casual viewing of the film. I personally love Olivier's enigmatic performance in that film (it was my primary motivator in buying this book), and I found that my further understanding of his choices as an actor and director only made me appreciate the film more. I had experienced the film as a "casual" viewer and now as someone with more insight. A worthy experience!

I would not suggest this book to someone who does not appreciate both Olivier's films and more importantly Shakespeare's plays. I think that if you are familiar with only Olivier's work and not other performances of the plays it might be worthwhile, but I would urge you to watch other acclaimed versions of the plays first, and possibly pick up Shakespeare's folios (if you cannot find them online). Ian McKellan has made Richard III more recently and Kenneth Branagh has made Henry V. There are countless Hamlets out there (including one by Branagh again). Without some knowledge of other performances I think the appreciation for Olivier's choices is lost.

But all that being said, I learned a lot from reading this book, and find it's still a nice reference to keep around.

Excellent insight!
This book gives excellent insight into the differences between the French and the American. The authors do an excellent job of describing and explaining the influences on French children and young adults that form their societal views on the world. Each section gives excellent description of essential differences and similarities between the two on the various aspects of life, including body language, history, weather, etc. It also helps if you read French fluently.

Literature : structure, sound, and sense
Published in Unknown Binding by Harcourt Brace Jovanovich ()
Author: Laurence Perrine
Amazon base price: $
Used price: $0.75
Collectible price: $9.84
Average review score:

an excellent introduction to the study of genre.
Perrine approaches the three broad genres of literature-- short story, poetry, and drama--in an exciting, fun way for beginning literature students, or those required to take a literature course. And for the instructor, "Literature" is especially a beginning instructor's dream. Perrine organizes the genre's in three separate sections and provides solid, accepted critical material on craftsmenship. He also provides excellent study questions for students. The poetry section is especially good. He presents progressively more sophisticated poems and also gives side by comparisons of "bad" poems with "good" poems which have the same theme. In the past, a companion teacher's supplement was avaiable which was balanced, readable, and nonthreatening in that instructors could use the supplemental comments or not and feel comfortable either way.

A very good guide
I was traveling in Corsica summer 2001. I had bought this guide and the Insight guide about Corsica. Together they was a very good match.

LP's book have a good diving and walking section. The walking section covers the famous GR20 route in particular. The diving section contains a lot about the diving possibilities and where the best dives are.

There are a lot of small villages in Corsica. Many of them is not mentioned in LP. So don't forget to explore.
