Breathtaking!!!
Dance Book 2001 is a treasure trove for professional and amateur dancers alike. After spending days and hours searching on the Internet and in various dance publications for "leg-up-pot-stir", I was able to locate it within seconds in Dance Book 2001. It is full of illustrations and it also contains a number of glossy full-page and full color STUNNING and BREATHTAKING images of dancers by the artist, Nancy Flores, that seem to jump out at you. The bottom line is: I highly recommend this book as a must addition to every dancer's library.

I teach sailing and cruising skills, and the arrival of this terrific cruising guide is welcome. Beautiful photos and great graphic diagrams of harbors and every possible anchorage.
Should be on every charter boat, but often is not, so if you are chartering inquire.

Wonderful!!!!
The main character in this book, Joan, is a young Chinese-American girl trying to fit in with the rest of the children her age. She has chores and responsibilities that her American friends do not have. She also does not have as much money as some of the snobby girls she goes to school with. Her and her little brother and sister want to have Christmas more than anything. Their nosey neighbor Miss Lucy (a retired teacher) asks the children to have Christmas with her. Their father tells them they can only have Christmas (since it's not a Chinese holiday) if they behave perfectly up until Christmas. This story is a wonderful example of why children should appreciate their parents. Although Joan's father is not like American father's, he does love her and he shows that love by working hard to provide for the family. This book has many exciting parts as the children are trying to not get in trouble. I liked the book so much I couldn't put it down. The book provides a real insight to what it is like to live within a minority culture. It is also just a wonderful and entertaining story for anyone looking for a good book! :)

John D. MacDonald comments, "I liked it very much!"
John D. MacDonald said, "El Vago is a solid novel. Many of the scenes are vivid and remarkable. I do not claim to be any kind of expert on Mexico and Mexicans, but I really do feel that this novel captures that strange Mexican madness--violence, fatalism, ironic humor, and the desperate search for some salvageable honor. I liked it very much."

The invention of the modern university
By around 1910,according to Veywey, the Old Time College had been reinvented and the modern graduate school tacked onto it. The three functions of the new hybrid were to be teaching, research, and public service. This book is as scholarly and as delightful to read as Samuel Eliot Morison's histories of Harvard.

Thinking out of the biomedical box
This is a fascinating sequel to "The Second Medical Revolution - From Biomedicine to Infomedicine" published in 1987 by Laurence Foss and Kenneth Rothenberg (Shambhala Press). As a preventive cardiologist I have always been troubled by the "fix it only when it's broke" approach to today's chronic medical problems (e.g., coronary heart disease). The idea of the body as a machine that can be understood by meticulous analysis of its parts has consumed the medical profession throughout the 20th Century. The ultimate expression of this outdated biomedical approach is the human genome project which proposes to unravel all the mysteries of human disease through the study of molecular biology and genetics. Foss and Rothenberg's revolutionary new paradigm opens exciting new and scientifically valid frontiers from which to approach an understanding of today's chronic diseases. While encompassing all the accomplishments of today's biomedical sciences, the proposed paradigm shift justifies including our thoughts and behaviors as targets for both understanding disease mechanisms and, more importantly, including them in our efforts to prevent and treat these diseases.
The 1987 book was a struggle to digest but remarkable in its rewards to the reader. In his new book, "The End of Modern Medicine..." Foss further explores the justification for a successor medical model that includes "mind over matter" as a subject for scientific study. I would love to see these two books required reading in medical school, but it will take a true revolution to defeat today's entrenched biomedical establishment. Nevertheless I highly recommend this book to all those who dare to think outside the biomedical box and who would like a fresh approach to the understanding of life itself.

Great for kids, the artwork is exceptional
The text is very informative and easily simplified when reading aloud to younger children. I thought the illustrations were warm and friendly, and beautifully done.
