Hamilton makes a solid prima facie case
I recently asked a friend, a Shakespeare professor, what she thought about the argument advanced in this book, which I had read perhaps a year previously. I was surprised to hear her say she wasn't acquainted with it. Hamilton seems to demonstrate soundly that the text known to us as the "Second Maiden's Tragedy" could originally have been titled "Cardenio" (a known "lost" Shakespeare play) since its plot appears to be drawn from a character of that name in "Don Quixote" and the current title appears to have been a working title applied by the royal censor. More dramatically, Hamilton (a nationally prominent forensic handwriting authority) argues that the handwriting in the survivng original manuscript of this play and that of Shakespeare's will are by the same man. Given Hamilton's stature in that field alone, I'd have expected the book to have drawn more attention. I don't know if the arguments in the book have been subjected to sound refutation by someone more expert than me, but to this journeyman Shakespeare buff he makes a solid enough case to bear hearing out

Best of the liberal arts texts
There are two people that would be interested in this book - those that are enrolled in a liberal arts chemistry course, and those that are just interested in learning about chemistry. This book suits either type of person admirably.

While setting up a liberal arts course in chemistry (i.e., Chemistry for Non-science Majors), we previewed a number of possible texts. This one, in my mind, stood above all the others that I looked at. There are a number of reasons why:

1. The scope - this book covers a vast number of topics, from basic structure of the atom to environmental chemistry to toxins and drugs to combustion and energy. We are designing a survey course, and this spread is ideal. Other texts tended to focus too much, especially on environmental issues (e.g., the ACS's Chemistry in Context).

2. Descriptive, non-mathmatical. Since this course has no prerequisites, not even grade 10 math, we needed a book that minimised mathematics. Other books, such as Kelter/Carr/Scott's Chemistry: World of Choices, was too mathematical for this type of course.

3. The pictures - this book simply looks good.

Thus, if you're looking for a text for a liberal arts chemistry course, or if you just want to know more about chemistry and are not mathematically inclined, I would recommend this book.

It may help to use additional resources with the book
The pros about this book:
1. I really enjoyed the sample problems in the book. It helped prepare me for the additional problems in the book.

2. For the most part, I understood everything. Reading it was not too difficult.

The cons about this book:
1. Some answers were incorrect. I had to speak with the instructor to get a couple of problems cleared.

2. The worst is that there is a solution manual available for only the Odd problems. I'd prefer a solution manual with both even and odd problems so that I can compare my work with and not hassle the professor's as much as i do to make sure i'm understanding the material.

Excellent Information!
I believe that "Idaho" has to be the definitive guide for anyone interested in things to do including historical information. My wife and I purchased this guide book to find out that it is more than a mere guide book, it is more of an almanac on the Gem State.

I've always been fascinated by the Gem State for its remoteness, rugged beauty and for the lack of information I've had on it. It certainly is one of the more hidden secrets of America and I'm sure that Idahoans would like to keep it that way. There's much more to the place than potatoes!

Gottberg breaks the book up into five regions and gives a good break down on sites, things to do and general interest points whether off the beaten path or mainstream. In his book includes information on natural history, geology, geography, wildlife, climate, maps, getting around, annual events including rodeos, ski areas, cultural attractions, historical sites, park and wilderness areas, sources of information, lodging, restaurants including maps and more. There are beautiful photos both past and present and the book is certainly up-to-date (second revision, current last printing is (C)2001. It is a paperback book but it stands up very well against wear and tear (waxey coating on the cover) and it has good bounding that doesn't flake off. Trust me, we used and abused the book when we traveled throughout Idaho last autumn and it's still in relatively pristine condition!

If you are planning on a venture to Idaho, this book is a must. Heck, if you live in Idaho, you are likely to learn things you never knew before with information that will give you something to do and get away from the television set!

Compiler Construction: Theory and Practice
Published in Hardcover by Sra (June, 1979)

Not for the timid or beginnner
There is a solid treatment of the theoretical groundwork to tackle a compiler construction course. Common topics such as
grammars and finite state machines are covered. Next top-
down and bottom-up parsers are addressed. I think the book
also includes architectures. I thought it might address the
aspects of compiler construction more explicitly. I needed
a book on implementation.

Non-Denominational Inspiration!
With The Contemporary Celtic Prayer Book, William John Fitzgerald has accomplished an amazing and sensitive feat of balance: he has created a spiritual celebration that crosses denominational borders. This book is a true celebration of the Celtic spirit, regardless of specific denominational upbringing.

There are prayers and inspirations for every occasion, from the every day to life-changing events. I bought this book for the wonderful "Prayer to the Vibrant Women of Celtic Lore" - but I quickly fell in love with the rest of it. www.celtsinamerica.com

Realistic models of evolution
This reference will be useful for the general reader curious about Darwin's theory of evolution. As is pointed out, Copernicus showed that Earth is not the center of the Universe, Newton showed that motions of planets can be explained by simple physical laws, and then Darwin completed this Copernican revolution by showing that origin of new, highly organized forms of life could be explained by similar natural laws, in this case, adaptive variations and natural selection. Evidence for evolution comes from paleontology, comparative anatomy, comparative embryology, comparative ethology (animal behavior), biogeography (geographical distribution of animals), genetics, comparative biochemistry and molecular biology.

A view into the past
A very interesting (and fun) read - while Marsteller's experiences are understandably dated (he died some time back, and many of the pieces in this book go back to the 60s and 70s), I found this to be a fascinating view into the thought processes that guided management in the pre-Internet age. Much of it still seems to apply.
