A masterful achievement
"The Papers of Ulysses S. Grant" is a project begun in 1962 for the purpose of publishing all the known letters written by Ulysses S. Grant. Volume one was published in 1967 and there are now twenty-four volumes in the series. People who follow Grant's career are aware of the inestimable value of this project. The Papers contain all known correspondence written by Grant and letters received by him. The editing of the series is unparalleled and the volumes represent primary source material at its apex.

Those who believe Grant was a "drunkard" or a "butcher" should read his own words, which show Grant's humor, pathos and unique personality. Masterfully edited by John Y. Simon, these volumes are a "must have" for anyone with an interest in U.S. Grant as a general, a politician and as a man

It is much more inclusive than the title suggests
I met the first edition 30 years ago in the U. of Illinois library, when I was in graduate school. Now, a full fledged medical and veterinary parasitologist, I had a second chance and . . . I just had to have it! Not because it was necessary to my work but because I remembered it as a jewel of a book. I hesitated a bit because the price was kind of steep for just a memento. Boy, but what a memento! The tight text and tiny letters are rarely interrupted by illustrations, and these are usually photographs; of only average quality, they are of exceptional content. It does not cover all the comon parasitic infections (the way they treat them, it would take an encyclopedia to do so!) but only the major ones. The survey of each infection, however, goes much farther than one would expect for a book on "wild mammals." It reviews (and references) a large part of the recent literature as it applies to any host; wild, domestic, or human. I found that it quickly gained a place among my favorite references. If you are interested in Parasitology at all, you MUST get it. You can't afford to wait another 30 years for the next edition.

This book is a must for any library of an ESL teacher or someone wanting to know about second language acquisition (SLA). This book is compiled of 9 papers by nine authors who have clear and concise definitions and explanations about SLA. It starts with an introduction by the editor and an explanation of Chomsky's 'competence' and 'performance.' I would order one for yourself and one for a friend!

Star Wars
Like all the other Star Wars books I've read, it is an exelent book, and moe so if you've seen the movie as much as I have. The first time I saw it, I really started to get into Star Wars. Then I read the Queen Amidala Journal, and saw it again. Well, after deciding that the first journal was to good not to read the second one, I read the second one,and saw the movie for a third time. After the movie, my mom and I stoped at K-mart to get my little brother a birthday present, since it was on the way home. I saw the book, took it home, read it in about a day and a half, and saw the movie for the FOURTH time the following Sunday! I believe you see a pattern now? The point I'm trying to get at is for every good Star Wars bok Ive read, the more knowledgeableabout the characters I am. And so far, they have all been good exspecially this one. Now just imagine what happened when I heard of the new Jedi Apprentice series!

JUST SAW THE PLAY
It is a wild, woolly, farcical, slapstick, poetic-philosophical comedy, which deserves a reading, as the Irish accents can be largely non-understandable. The play had the feel of a classic, although it helps to know the times and the Irish reaction to it, historically.

The definition of Friendship
If you are having trouble understanding the meaning of friendship, you should read this book. When I first saw this book I thought,"Is a book this small worth reading?"But as the old saying goes,Don't judge a book by it's cover.Besides having some beautiful pop-up pictures, this book has some really interesting poems. For example, this poem by Ralph Waldo Emerson:"It is one of the blessings of old friends that you can afford to be stupid with them."When I read this poem, memories of A.A.U summer basketball came flooding into my head.I remember on one occasion, about three of my friends and I had just finished enhaling about two Big Macs each.Since we were in a mall that had carousels,we decided to ride one. Now at the time we didn't realize how stupid that idea was going to be later. We all climbed onto our multi-colored horses and begin our journey into the world of sickness. After spinning around in circles about 20 times,we decided to get off.As soon as we got off,one by one we raced to the nearest bathroom and unloaded our lunches into the toilets.Afterwards, we all agreed that riding a carousel after lunch wasn't the greatest of ideas,BUT...at least we had fun.
