No resurrection for this book
Leaden prose, banal observations and ego-centric viewpoints do a disservice both to Wesley and the publisher.

the author lacks credibility
The idea of Mr. Pippert lecturing on ethics would be laughable if it weren't so downright frightening. He has absolutely no claim to any moral high ground whatsoever. His anti-Semitic comments are legion and vicious. I can think of many more qualified men to postulate on our nations moral obligations. Asking him to dictate our morality is like asking David Duke to lecture on racial tolerance. ...

The Good (cover), The Bad (text), & The Ugly (artwork)
Intriguing, romantic cover that captures the Westerner's imagination. Too bad the cover artist didn't write & illustrate this book (really a comic book as "graphic novel" would be a complimentary exaggeration). Text is apologist history, weak on facts, thick on excuses for Hardin's murderous tendencies. Hardin doesn't get to his infamous gunfighting career until page 86, so "Lost Cause" doesn't even work as a traditional Western romp. Artwork inside is crude featuring stiff, exaggerated characters that make "Pokemon" look like Rembrandt. "Lost Cause" doesn't work as history or entertainment. If you are interested in Hardin, check out Leon Metz's or Richard Marohn's bios or even Hardin's autobiography. As for "Lost Cause," save your money--the cover is the best part & you've already seen that.

By far a very unadequate textbook
As a freshman in high school, I was very excited to be taking precalculus. But as the year unfolded, so did the many pages of my textbook, and I was dissapointed. Though it does provide many challenging problems, and many examples with graphics, I was unfortunate enough to have to drudge through the year always correcting the Teacher's Edition. On average, about 5-7 problems in every section were wrong in this particular textbook. In addition, There were many gramatical and numerical errors in explanations that were both superfluous and uninformative. The begging of each section had about 10-15 pages of explanation for that section alone. Additionally, the formating and small text were both confusing and intimidating. Overall, this textbook was far worse that I anticipated. This was both the first and the last year in which my school purchased this textbook, and anyone looking for a boring and less than adequate textbook: be my guest and waste your money.

Limited Usefulness
This looks like a promising book, however I've found that ETS questions are much more cut and dried than the ones within this book.

The questions are ambiguous, and many times there are two answers that are acceptable, even after careful study. I would stick with a book from Kaplan, where the questions are concise, the answers are lucidly explained, and solid strategies are presented.

I honestly wonder whether using this as a study aid would do more harm than good.

Star Trek: The Next Generation #65: A Hard Rain

Dislike Book, Love Dixon Hil
One of my favorite episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation was "The Big Goodbye". This was the one that introduced Picard's alter ego Dixon Hill, Private Eye. This book as a follow up or continuation of the story was not very good at all. Instead of mystery that is built with clues and leads, about 90% of the plot is spent making a wrong turn. Not very entertaining. No payoff at the end. Very little imagination. By the time you reach the end of the book you will just want to scream, "Give me a break!" I would love see more Dixon Hill tie ins but this one can sleep with the fishes. Do not waste your time.

I haven't read the book, nor am I likely to.
The price is prohibitive; it must be a textbook. Perhaps this extensive subject can be broken down for general readership into five or six categories under two main ones: 1) victims of violence: murder, assault, rape; and 2) victims of non-violence: prostitution, drug use, burglary. Or whatever. And divvied up into three or four separate books. I would be interested in reading about particular types of crime victims such as those that have affected me, but I certainly am not willing to spend that much money on a book three quarters of which would not interest me in the least unless I were a victims' rights advocate.
