God and 'My ' Stuff
I've always known that as a Christian I need to give back to God in gratitude, but I hang on to 'my' stuff pretty tightly. This book emphasizes that giving is about worship of God and moves me from being earthbound in my thinking and lifestyle to focusing on life as a Heavenward journey and laying up treasures there. This is an excellent review of Christian stewardship for anyone who claims Christ as Lord of their life.
A Heart to Praise My God: Wesley Hymns for Today
Published in Paperback by Abingdon Press (April, 1996)
Amazon base price: $16.00
Average review score:
Good devotional study guide
I recommend this book to pastors, church musicians and anyone desiring to feel the warmth of the 18th century Wesleyan revival. A Heart to Praise My God: Wesley Hymns for Today, studies each of the hymns of Charles Wesley included in the 1989 United Methodist Hymnal. While one will find more scholarly guides to great hymns, this is one book that provides both a good introduction to the hymns of Charles Wesley as well as good devotional material. S T Kimbrough has the credentials of a Wesley scholar. The notes and brief study guide at the end will help anyone who wants to explore further. But his personal reflections show that he is also in touch with the love of God that originally inspired the Wesley brothers.
High-Performance Computer Architecture (Addison-Wesley Series in Electrical and Computer Engineering)
Published in Paperback by Pearson Education POD (January, 1993)
Amazon base price: $80.00
Average review score:
Suitable for Grad School or the determined undergrad
Overall this book is a hard read for those without a pretty good Computer Architecture background.
I like the examples from real research findings and the design techniques that the author provided but the material is a little dated now.
This book does give you a good emphasis on design for those who are up to speed.
The Hopi Villages (The Ancient Province of Tusayan)
Published in Hardcover by Filter Press (December, 1999)
Amazon base price: $4.00
Average review score:
Fascinating
Reading Powell's account of traveling to the Hopi lands in the 1870's is a truly fascinating story. Instead of giving details of his own hardships, he chose to stick to the facts of the journey and of the way of life of the Hopi people. I would have given this 5 stars if it weren't for the cheesy introduction and the distracting, poorly executed illustrations.
Industrial Organization: Theory and Practice (Addison-Wesley Series in Economics)
Published in Hardcover by Addison-Wesley Pub Co (January, 1998)
Amazon base price: $109.00
Average review score:
Good and not a "heavy" book
I'm a undergraduate economic student and have tried a good sort of books in this matter, and I finally get one that fits very nice to my needs. This book touches all the aspects of the subject without being very hard to understand or too boring to read, and that is hard to find in book about industrial organization! Another good point is that the book is very new and have useful and contemporary examples. A liked very much!
Introduction to Economic Reasoning (Addison-Wesley Series in Economics)
Published in Paperback by Addison-Wesley Publishing (August, 1999)
Amazon base price: $81.00
Average review score:
A Good Economic text which lacks important details.
I would reccomend this textbook for students or someone who is just begining economics. This book is for the most part easy to follow. It gives basic concepts of microeconomics and macroeconomics. However, more pedagogy is needed in some chapters as well as with explanations.
Introduction to Removable Denture Prosthetics
Published in Paperback by Churchill Livingstone (September, 1983)
Amazon base price: $32.00
Average review score:
A Sensible and Practical Introduction to Removable Dentures
The authors of this book were teachers of the subject in the School of Dentistry in Manchester. They have written a book which gives sound, easy to understand details of how to make a removable denture, partial or complete that does minimal harm to the tissues. There is a good introduction to immediate replacement dentures. The writing style is clear, the diagrams easily understood, and the references useful. It is a suitable basic textbook for dental students and also an excellent aide memoire for the general practitioner.
John Wesley's Message Today (Pocket Guide)
Published in Paperback by Abingdon Press (May, 1992)
Amazon base price: $6.00
Average review score:
Weems captures the essence of Wesley's theology
Lovett Weems has wonderfully reduced the vast theology and message of John Wesley into 96 pages. This book is written in language that can be understood by laity and along with the questions provided at the end of each chapter, this makes for a fantastic group study on Wesley's theology. A wonderful quick reference guide to the bare basics of John Wesley.
Logic
Published in Unknown Binding by Prentice-Hall ()
Amazon base price: $
Average review score:
Easy to be understood. Must-read for Logic!
Logic is a hard topic, before one read this book. I read the Chinese translation several years ago and find it very precise and concise. Plus suitable examples and good elaboration, nobody can explain logic better with the same amount of words than the author of this book.
Lone Star and the Deadly Vixens (Lonestar, No 142)
Published in Paperback by Jove Pubns (June, 1994)
Amazon base price: $3.99
Average review score:
Jessie is sexy, Ki is deadly, together, their unstoppable!
This one is a little different than most Lone Star fans would be accustomed to. Jessie goes through something of an identity crisis here, (which I happen to know carries over into the next book), and it was interesting to see how they dealt with it. She was almost like another person entirely. Anyway, if you like sex and violence in your books, like me, then the whole Lone Star series is for you. You might also like the Gunsmith, Longarm and the Slocum series. It helps to like Westerns too, of course.
