marginal but has some interesting ideas
The title of your book is very good as TMJ does have indeed many many faces. Unfortunately the medical and dental communities ingeneral tend to treat TMJ in the traditional dogmas of the past forty years or more. I am a dentist who treats TMJ problems with functonal jaw orthopedics and when done correctly this technigue "unmasks" TMJ as the true culprit as the causitive factor of most all chronic headaches, neck aches and other associated head and neck pain problems. The most common ailment associated with TMJ is the chronic headache including migraine. Thousands of cases have been resolved using functional jaw orthopedics.

Todds 5 volume CV Review Books
This is the accepted study guide of choice for the cath lab exam for nurses & techs. The format is very readable and the graphics extremely helpful. The real meat comes in the explanations - following each questions where Todd discusses each question - why it is important, tips, WHY the answer is correct and WHY the distracters are wrong. It makes you think. The cost is high, but worth every penny when you consider the scope and size of the books. Together this set is 5 inches thick! If you want to pass the RCIS or CIT exams I highly recommend these books. We also use them to train new cath lab employees.

Awesome CD
This CD makes studying for the RCIS exam fun! And it's fast. I can scan hundreds of questions in an hour.

The CD appears to be professionally done, with color graphics, sound effects, different types and levels of questions, and sophisticated scoring and saving routines. One hardly knows that these are the same questions that are in Todd's acclaimed review books - they appear so much more colorful and interactive.

Although it is designed to award CEU credits upon completion of a chapter they do not appear to be available yet. Perhaps after the nursing organizations see how educational one of these chapters is this Todd will get this worked out.

Totalitarian Language: Orwell's Newspeak and Its Nazi and Communist Antecedents
Published in Hardcover by University Press of Virginia (January, 1992)
Author: John Wesley Young
Amazon base price: $45.00
Used price: $70.98
Average review score:

Could Newspeak work?
This book is a three parter. In the first part John W. Young explains to us how language in Orwell's "1984" was used for thought control. In part Two and Three, he compares the fiction to the reality of language and terminology used in Nazi Germany and Communist Russia. Not only does he show us the flaws in totalitarion languages, he even shows us the counter-languages that develop to help people under the dictatorial rule keep things 'real'.
One point he makes is that while governments have a hard time changing the meaning of words or banning them completely, they can make words worthless by using them so much that the words lose all meaning. Kind of like how we use 'democratic' today.

Transforming Words: The Early Methodist Revival from a Discourse Perspective (Religions and Discourse. Vol. 3)

Wesley's Discourse Revisited
Hitherto, the language of the Methodist revival has received only moderate, and mainly descriptive, attention. Van Noppen's study moves beyond description to approach the phenomenon from a «critical» angle, thus allowing the reader to assess the indictments which have branded Methodist discourse as manipulative.
Critics have stereotyped Methodism as an oppressive, reactionary discourse forced upon illiterate audiences by insidious rhetorical devices. The guiding hypothesis which underlies such analyses seems to be that the success of Methodism, if any, was not a natural and voluntary response to a religious appeal, but the effect of a deliberate, manipulative process which cynically sought to trick people into a belief system which conditioned their world-view and behaviour patterns, allegedly on behalf of industrial interests which required an obedient and submissive work force.
The investigation of the workings of Methodist discourse in its many textualised and non-textualised aspects allows one to understand the widespread popular impact of the movement in both linguistic and extralinguistic terms. The discourse analysis which constitutes the bulk of this study shows that Methodism in its early Wesleyan stage was remarkably efficient in providing a multi-modal discourse which managed to reach the working classes and to answer their needs and aspirations. The widespread popular response to the message in certain areas may be explained in terms of natural audience motivation, and there is little if any ground, notwithstanding Wesley's particular use of language and his explicitly conservative attitude, to hypothesize a deliberate manipulative socio-political intent on the part of the Wesleyans.
Van Noppen's critical analysis shows that Wesley's discourse did, however, contain the seeds of a work ethic which lay the message open to misunderstanding and misuse in post-Wesleyan Methodism. Under the influence of increasing embourgeoisement and denominational self-interest, some branches of later Methodism progressively abandoned the Wesleyan perspective, and may be suspected of sustaining capitalist interests in some parts of their discourse; but the Methodist revival as a whole cannot be indicted with intentional manipulation of the working masses.

Epistemological, religious, and pragmatic matters
The Unity Of William James's Thought by Wesley Cooper (Professor of Philosophy, University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada) is a uniquely presented survey and an engaging examination of the philosophical works of eclectic personality and pioneering philosophy of William James. Professor Cooper rejects the commonly held view that James' philosophy was fragmented, countering that there is indeed a logical system and doctrine to be found in James' writings and legacy. Epistemological, religious, and pragmatic matters are analyzed and discussed in this scholarly and persuasively argued treatise. The Unity Of William James's Thought is a welcome and scholarly contribution to History of Philosophy supplemental reading lists and academic reference collections.

A tour-de-force of clinical neorealism
A literary world desperately in need of fresh blood has gotten an especially tasty and satisfying transfusion in Vascular Surgery: A Comprehensive Review. The veins sing, the arteries cry, and John Updike would give his right arm and three fingers of his left hand to bring a graft to life the way Dr. Moore does in these pages. Words fail me. Just buy the damned thing.

When All Heaven Breaks Loose

Author: J. Wesley McComb

provocative, complete explanation of the Book of Revelation
Wes McComb is a dear friend and devout Christian, who has written a provocative book in the long line of people of faith who have seen the Book of Revelation as a direct message for their own times. The book is written with wit, and humility, and asks us to see the glory of Jesus Christ throughout "Revelation," no matter what else we may or may not see in it. Wes' humility allows him to admit readily that he may be "joining the thousands" who have been mistaken about this fascinating, apocalyptic book. He is also correct in noting, as I can tell you from my own experience, that "your agreement with [his] views is not required for you to find fulfillment in this book." (p.1) With painstaking detail, the author works through "Revelation," chapter by chapter, finding and discerning explanations for the often-confusing symbolism and numerology. With a sense of history, and concern for our future under God, he guides us to understand, at the least, that God is involved in all of our world affairs, outward appearances notwithstanding. Perhaps most controversial is the author's fascinating, unique conviction that the "sixth seal" will be opened this year, 1999, with a nuclear holocaust. Whether or not that actually happens, "When All Heaven Breaks Loose" will challenge you to see and think about things in a new way, and to remember the truth that the book of "Revelation," shows us the glory of Jesus, and that the bottom line is: Jesus wins.

Where Do I Go from Here

A great interesting , realistic novel for book lovers!
Imagine having to leave your home and go off to a school where there are not many of your kind. Nia had to go through that. The novel, Where Do I Go From Here?, by Valerie Wilson Wesley, is about a black girl who had to leave and go to a highschool where she feels like an outsider. Nia wasn't nich nor was she white like many other people at her school. Nia found a friend, Marcus Garvey Willians, who was like her. Even though Marcus is black he has found a way to fit in and still be himself.

I give is novel five stars because it is interesting and realistic. As one of the characters, Nia has to be the most exciting. Nia wasn't interesring because she was blowing up someone's house or anything. The story was just as exciting as an action packed book, but in a different way. Nia was interesting because of the kind of person she was. At the end Marcus helped Nia realize the importance of her life, and also gain a new respect for it.
