Soul Songs
I was looking for information on bird songs when I came across this book in the library. In Jake's essays, I found not only "Songs to Birds" but essays that resonated with my soul. Jakes is a fabulous essayist, and balances a love of nature with a dash of reality. He also helps us to see the bigger picture of living a life of meaning. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves birds, or who just loves great essayists.

THE best summary of Wesley for the casual reader.
This is the best, simple summary of John Wesley's life and beliefs I have seen. It reads like a novel, with plenty of references to Wesley's confrontations with the establishment, his passion and his prolific work springing from his faith. I used this extensively in my doctoral dissertation, and have quoted Lean in my efforts to restore Wesleyan values to United Methodism

It really works!
A colleague of mine read this book as part of his MPA graduate program and found the methodology simple yet powerful. The book provides a graphical way of organizing employee complaints and laments into a logical structure that shows how most "problems" are actually symptoms of a few root issues that need to be addressed to effect lasting change.
I went to this book once it became clear that one of my "IT consulting" projects actually needed to turn into an "organizational change" project. We mapped out the problems on large butcher paper and used it in a working session with senior managers. They quickly grasped the key issues and focused in on identifying productive solutions -- no time wasted while each manager expounded on his/her view on the real issues, b/c it was all there in black/white/red/yellow etc. Highly recommend it for all change management agents.
Striketeam Book One: Spy on the Finish Line

Amazon base price: $13.95

One of the funniest books I've ever read.
StrikeTeam Book One: Spy on the Finish Line had me laughing on the floor from almost the first page. The characters seemed so alive and just like some of my own friends. The writer really captured an old styled comedy act with the banter between the people and the machines they used. The sci-fi was almost like an Outer Limits type of suttle sci-fi that was evident but no overwhelming. I really enjoyed this book and I think that anyone who picks this book up will too.

Ye shall know them by their fruits.
Dr.Wesley is like a tree planted by the rivers of water which bringeth forth fruit in its season. This is his season, and "The Study of the Gospel of Mark" bares evidence of the fruitfulness of this man of God. Susanna Wesley - a real woman
Mr. Dallimore presents Susanna as a real person. Her faults and her struggles come alive, and yet she is an inspiration. She was obviously highly educated for her time. The book educates us about history and society in her era, as well as religion. But there are no flat characters. Very informative. Nice and short, also.

Wonderful pictures and fantastic music!
This book has 30 of the best loved Gospel songs of our centruy - from Deep River and I Need Thee Every Hour to Blessed Assurance and Jesus Lifted Me. The arrangements are clever and interesting - great fun to sing. The music is not for beginners. Accompanying most songs are absolutely delightful pastel pictures of Afro-American/black people singing. The faces are filled with joy and praise, deep feeling. Each picture captures a moment of worship with honesty. The combination of pictures and music makes this book a keeper. I will use it in my pastoral charge to teach my (all white) congregations about joyful singing.

The best book I've ever read!
I've read the book twice because it had alot of information in it that seemed repititious and a little confusing. I take notes on all books that I read. As a result, I've been able to formulate a lot about the aliens such as where they're from, and what they have accomplished with their lives. This is a must read book, even though it is going to take a while to understand everything in it (so don't be in a hurry). I have recommended it to a lot of people. I thank Wesley Bateman for taking the time to author this book.

Unfortunately this book is out-of-print, and I cannot seem to find it on ebay. A shame. Let's hope they re-issue it very soon! A must for Great Lakes wreck enthusiasts!
