Contents are superb, but spoiled by bad organization.
As prior reviews state, the text is well-selected from Powell's journal, and the photographs are superb. But how can the author publish the journal of an explorer without a map keyed to the dates of journal entries? The photographs are superb, but again, not keyed to a map, or even associated with the text. The identifying data for each photo is listed in the front of the book, but is not given on, or near the photograph. A potentially superb book, but, because of these defects and faults, one that is maddening to read.

Easy to start with
This book contents is excellent. It is explained easilly and step by step. The examples are very clear and easy to understand. The only problem are the examples at the end of each chapter. These problems are far more complicated than those explained on the chapters. Also the solutions of most of them are wrong. Recommended for non-engineering students.

Explanatory Notes upon the Old and New Testament

Finally, JW on every text! NT is binding UMC doctrine.
Good hardbound volumes. Photo-reproduced means archaic printing formats, but don't let that throw you. You can learn how John Wesley translated, interpreted, and applied every Biblical passage. His New Testament Notes are official United Methodist Church doctrine (i.e. it's a chargeable offense to teach contrary opinions). The OT notes have been out of print for many years, so I'm glad that Schmul makes them available to us now. It's spendy, no way around that. Every preacher/teacher in the Wesleyan tradition should read Wesley's Notes before going to the pulpit/class...they're short & clear. Many Notes are succinct summaries of his Sermon. Excellent church library selection!

dated but interesting
This book is essentially a collection of research papers from the 1970s and early 1980s, each focusing on an aspect of the pioneering University INGRES database project at the University of California at Berkeley. Although it doesn't have a huge amount to offer practitioners these days, the book has three main points of value to academics and the historically-minded. First, the "glue" connected the papers is the usual opinionated Stonebraker commentary. This has reasonable entertainment value. Second, Rowe and Stonebraker tell the technical story of their 1980 startup, Relational Technology. Third, some of the research papers have become practically impossible to find as university libraries continue to throw out older and less-circulated conference proceedings.

Time lines seem a little off from other Wesley books.
Intresting and to the point. Some of the dates do not conincide with other historical accounts of Wesley that I have read, but all in all a good basic reading on Wesley.

A collection of Wesley's saying
This is the kind of book you might want to give as a gift to you Sunday School teacher. Nothing too pithy; but a whole collection of short quotations from Wesley--which actually do a fairly good job of presenting his theology in a summary fashion.

Two small smudges I noticed: (1) the editors mispelled Susanna's name; and (2) they said Wesley was seven years old when plucked from the burning fire of the Epworth parsonage. He was born 6-17-1703 and the fire occurred on 2-09-1709. But, you can't have perfection in detail, only in love.

some reservations
I purchased this book for a 12 year old child. The subject matter is great, the writing stylish. However, there is a graphic description of a "spanking" in the first few pages that is quite disturbing and should have been left out.

John Wesley: His Life and Theology

John Wesley's life as if it were "first person."
I used this book in seminary. When you get bogged down in theological writings, diaries, theses, this book is a refreshing change. Written by Robert G. Tuttle, Jr. as if it were in the first person of John Wesley, I think the author did the reformer justice. Like any good biography, Tuttle covers all major sweeps of Wesley's life in a most readable fashion.

More of a personal study that erotica
This book is not really erotica at all, though I suspect that some readers who are interested in Victorian style femdom might fine it more physically stimulated than I did. No, instead it is a journey of one man whom after a long life finally writes down his fantasies along with accompanying drawings. The drawings are well done though I bit difficult to see -- the nature of the media I suspect. The book itself is not a novel in the sense that it is actually a story of a particular length but instead more like a short story or a draft of what could have developed into an intriguing world. As it is, the development of the characters is too quick, too short, and thus I never empathized with anyone nor truly cared what happened to them. I found that I was more interested in the man that created this book, why these fantasies, why these images, why did it take so long for him to express himself and did he ever get that fantasy even briefly in real life.

Perceptions of value : real estate appraisal theory & application
Published in Unknown Binding by SilverStar Pub. ()
Author: J. Wesley Tomblin

Value will never look the same
"Perceptions of Value" offers a scientific process for determining value -- and its specific application is to real estate. But the golden value (my perception?) of the book is that the process can be applied to any facet of your life. How do you value your relationships? How do you value your time, your creativity? In studying this book, one can learn about applying a method to deliver a clearer, objective and more real (?) "perception of value." This book is a solid source material for real estate appraisal, and much more. Thanks
