AmigaOS System Programmer's book
This book covers the hardware interface to the AmigaOS. There are interfaces for every aspect of the AmigaOS including the Game Port, Audio, Console, Keyboard, Parallel, SCSI, Serial, Timer, TrackDisk, and other devices. The IFF (Interchange File Format) is detailed. Also covered is some information about the physical layout of the floppy, RigidDiskBlock, and Amiga Bootstrap. This book is great for AmigaOS system programmers needing to communicate at the hardware level or OS designers needing hints about Amiga hardware aspects. This book is also excellent for presenting a well thought out I/O interface for acessing the hardware and organinzing drivers.

Decent AmigaOS Reference
This book details basic driver interfaces to various driver APIs available for the AmigaOS. Some detail of hardware in regards to Input Devices are covered. Details of Chipsets are not covered in this book.

Good book, dude...
I read this book often over a refreshing herbal iced tea and just chill out. Even though I know how the book is going to end, I'm always on the edge of my seat by the time I reach the last chapter. It's still a page turner every time out, dude! My favorite character in the book has to be Kernal Rom. I love his accent! And the way he beats up on the autistic clown in chapter 6, though controversial, really drives home some of the books larger thematic points. Danny, I say to myself, that clown is you... and that beating is your inner child, fighting to get out. It gets to me every time I read it...

mainly for music industry types
This book has a lot of interesting information, although it's not quite up to the standard of the Joel Whitburn books. More pictures of the artists would be welcome, as would less "bubbling under" references. Also, it's not necessary to say the person being interviewed told "this author" something. That's assumed, unless another source is mentioned. If you work in AC radio, as I do, this book is very helpful!

Well-written but poorly edited
This is a well-WRITTEN book, typical of the other informative Billboard offerings. There is a wealth of information here about songs you may have forgotten about, and some original interviews as well. Unfortunately, the text itself is riddled with spelling and factual errors: for example, Conor Clapton's mother was never Eric's wife; Leo Sayer's hit was Long Tall GLASSES, not DANCES; and Jim Seals' partner was CROFTS, not CROFT. And come on, Wesley, you know better than to write "TERRY" DeSario! Did anyone proofread this? I hope the author will take better care in the production of the next edition.

This is great for Adult Contemporary chart fans
Anybody who is still looking for Joel Whitburn's updated Adult Contemporary singles book may have to wait, but this is a preview of the AC chart-toppers. This is awesome for those into soft music and elevator music. What I mean is Kenny G, Michael Bolton, Herb Alpert, whoever. I love the detailed information in this book about the song and the "behind the music" stories in here. Great job, Mr. Hyatt!

Review from a college student
I really did not like this book. There is not enough examples to go along with the problems that you have to do. Most everyone in my class had the same complaint. The workbook was not required, but I don't think you could do the work without it. I wish the college would get a different book. I am also sick of Marvin Bittinger thinking everyone is interested in working out because he is. Get a clue Marvin!

Great, thourough, easy to learn.
It is a great source to learn algebra a recommendation would be to use the Introductory to Algebra by the same Martin L. Bittinger or have already learned Algebra I, Because this book is really fairly advanced for younger students and is covering mostly Algebra II information.

This book is comprehensive and ideal for self-study. At Bakersfield College we have been using this text in our online course, Intermediate Algebra, for the past two years. If you're interested in taking this course, e-mail me and I'll send you further information. (We'll be changing to a new edition of this text in the future)

Golly I'm An Important Historical Figure !!
John (Now-That-I'm-An-Author) Dean's second book, which might be subtitled "More Cashing-In On My Notoriety, Quick While People Still Remember My Name!," presents a substantially greater volume of introspective navel-contemplation than does his first warp of reality, "Blind Ambition." Readers are treated to intriguing background about the Earl Butz joke, some marijuana use, and the personal creative eruption of a lifetime that yielded "Everything is different now," the final sentence in "Blind Ambition."

Before you buy any material from Mr. Dean, please read "Silent Coup" and ascertain, using the materials assembled by a couple of genuine hard-nosed investigative reporters, his true role in the Watergate episode. You will find that your first impression of Mr. Dean -- your initial gut reaction when you heard he was ratting on Richard Nixon -- was not as inaccurate as you later thought (though, as it turns out, for different reasons).

"Now that I'm an author, I'll wear my sweater draped around my neck and see if I can find a ghost writer (like Taylor Branch again) who can help me write down additional minutia about my life..."

Deep Throat and self-examination
John Dean's follow-on to Blind Ambition is an interesting self-examination punctuated with commentary on Dean's suspicions regarding the true identity of Bob Woodward's source Deep Throat. The latter is the reason the book sold (if it did) while the former obviously was Dean's motivation for writing the book.

I listened to rather than read the book. The recording was well done, and the topic lends itself to the book on tape approach. Dean's tone is conversational, although the material may be a bit impenetrable unless one has a basic working knowledge of Watergate and its players.

Dean's self-examination is illuminating not only of his own feelings but also of our media culture, which presumably has only gotten worse since this book was published 20 years ago. Dean's predictions about presidential scandals of the future and the media's handling of it were prescient. I would like to see a book by Dean on Monicagate.

Dean's analysis of the Deep Throat question is incisive. He starts with the obvious, but he also examines the obscure, behind the scenes players who may have had the information necessary to be Deep Throat. His commentary on the shoddiness of the Washington Post's reporting is a bit self-serving; he prefers to see himself as the one who broke the story. That said, it is a thoughtful and seemingly fair rebuttal of the conventional wisdom that "Woodstein" brought down the president.

All in all, a satisfying trip to an earlier time.

Fine work on John Dean's life post watergate
It has been several years since I read this book, however it was a very good follow up to John Dean's book on the Watergate affair and his role in it.

I have found that many times over the years after I read a book, and become intrigued with the main character's life, hoping for a sequel. This book filled that need for me.

John Dean is a very intersting, multi faceted, much misunderstood individual. Reading the second book, helps to understand him and his motivations in the Watergate affair.

Fulfills a need, but needs better proof reading
There is a definite need for a book like this. However, some more careful pre-publishing review would have helped. For example, the permeability of free space is given wrong, consistently, by a factor of 10^20. The formulas for Coulomb's law, and the Biot-Savart law, have the wrong exponent of "r" in the denominator. The formula for inductance of a solenoid implies a dependence of inductance on current, although if the student has the patient to track down the definition of symbols the answer is correct, if expressed in a curious way. All in all, there is a great need for a book like this, but a reference work has to be as far as possible 100% trustworthy and reliable. A second, corrected, version of this book would be invaluable.

Good reference book for school homeworks..
From High School to college I Found this book very useful as a quick reference guide for any subject, you can find any formula or any constant that you need while doing a homework, youll find it quickly and you wont lose time consulting any other book.

As other revieweres said it has some erros, but theyre minimal, and the book covers a wide selecetion of engineering topics.
Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and mathematics.

I give it four stars only for the minimal erros, but consider it a good and handy book for any quick reference, specially if you know concepts and only need to look for exact info.

An excellent reference source for general science
Although there are some errors, this is the best general reference source I have encountered. Considering its breath of information, its accesibility, and its cost, this is an excellent reference for high schools and high school and college students. The organization of the book invites people to look up a specific piece of information. The book includes sections on constants, units, biology, chemistry, geology, physics and mathematics. The book includes obscure as well as often used information. This would be an excellent book to give to a person who would need or be interested in some of the tools of science.

Errors and lies
This book has so many errors I'm amazed it came from Microsoft. It says you can use NLB with one NIC - you can't. It misdocuments command-line syntax for AC.EXE. I've found so many minor errors that I wish I could just send the book back. Half of this book just duplicates the App Center online manual. I learned more from a presentation I saw at a conference and I'm buying that guy's book when it comes out - Application Center 2000 Configuration by Don Jones.

Good from MCSE exams
I used this book as part of my prep for MCSE exams 70-232 and 70-226. It's almost enough information by itself for 232.

The reading is as dry as a technical book is expected to be, but the information is extremely helpful, especially as no study guides are likely to be published for 232 any time soon.

Good book, some errors
This is a good book, and covers many great details of how AppCenter operates. Keep in mind though that the book was published before the final product release, so many of its errors stem from design changes after this book went to press.

If you are responsible for an AppCenter cluster, I highly recommend this text. Hopefully MSPress will correct its errors in a new edition.

BTW, for the record, you can most definately use NLB if you have only one NIC, you just can't configure AppCenter to use NLB if you don't have two.

content free guide to RIP?
Thank goodness for the large font, and wide spacing on this fluffy attempt at presenting a technichal topic: otherwise far more extraneous and useless information would have had to be included in order to make this book big enough to keep from sliding into a fold of flesh in my ponderous belly.

A good book about RIP v1 & v2
When I got this book, I understood what the anonymous reviewer meant by saying this book is overspaced.

In comparison to "BGP4, Inter-Domain Routing in the Internet", this book is about 33% wider due to wide margins and a bit higher due to line spacing being a bit larger.

As the amount of material is nearly identical (same number of lines, line width, and the RIP book is 20 pages shorter), I wish the books had the same page size.

Anyway, I disagree with the reviewer - RIP is a simple protocol, and there's no reason for a book focused on it to be any bigger.

This book is excellent for network administrators who are already familiar with the basics of IP and just want a book to study RIP from, without any material about IP, routing, or graph algorithms in general, especially as the book is written by an authority on the subject.

Great, quick read!
This book provides a concise, albeit comprehensive discussion of RIP-1/2. It offers help with configuration, day-to-day operation and troubleshooting. If you do not have a lot of time but need to understand the fundamentals of RIP-1/2, give this book a read.

Bias all the way
This book had some merit as a description of the War of 1812. While reading it though, it was impossible to escape the fact that it was written by a Canadian. The bias in this book was incredible, and often hid some of the points that needed to be made. I am not saying this as an American who only wants to read pro-American history, but this book became to biased to convey the facts the author was apparently trying to get across.

Good Overview
It works as a good overview. This is not the author's only book about this event, so I trust he knows his facts but I wouldn't be able to verify that. One small drawback is that the author assumes you know the location of certain places so you might become geographically lost at times. It was a quick read on the war which was all I was looking for.

Good introduction to the War of 1812
This book is a good overview of the war that does not get bogged down in extensive details pertaining to each individual battle. Those looking for a detailed analysis of the war may want to look elsewhere, but those who are more interested in the general events and the reason for the choices made during the war will likely be pleased with this. My only real qualm is that the book lacks good maps to accompany the descriptions of advances, retreats, etc. Overall though, anyone looking for a general explanation of the events of 1812 and especially the reasons why certain choices were made during the war will likely be pleased with this book.
