Parents Need Fun, too!
As Dr. B says it right on Page 1: "Healthy parent-child relationships don't just happen, they are created. Like any worthwhile endeavor, raising responsible & responsive children requires dedication, hard work & a willingness to experiment with creative approaches to parenting challenges."

Instead of simply bossing your kids about, throwing as many orders at them as they throw tantrums at you, try a little cooperation - you'll be as surprised as they with the results!

This easy-to-read, enjoyable little book, explains the ins & outs of the impasses parents get into with their children, & then gives you lifelines of ideas & scripts with which you can transform the quality of your relationships with your spouse, as well as your kids.

Worth every penny you spend. I highly recommend you give copies to every parent you know who is underwhelmed by the joy of parenting, overwhelmed by their ratpack, or looking forward, with either dread or exhilaration, to becoming parents.

An Exceptional Parenting Tool
This highly entertaining book deals thoughtfully with the most precious of relationships - that of parents and children. It provides realistic approaches to improving family communication, cooperation and harmony. Dr. Berkowitz presents valuable insights and advice in a straightforward yet humorous fashion; his techniques are appropriate for dealing with children ages toddlerhood through adolescence. Dr. Berkowitz's tools can be effectively introduced into any family, helping families to modify their own personal style, while retaining their own special uniqueness -- unlike many parenting books which dictate the latest current "parenting fad".

Okay, so I loved the book. But what really counts is this: I have used several of Dr. Berkowitz's approaches with my own children, ages 3 and 5 years. Results: successful cooperation (with some surprised looks on their little faces!). My 3 year old daughter has even begun anticipating my intentions and will repeat something I have previously said to her (that came straight from Dr. B's book), before I get a chance to say it! She smiles knowingly and is proud that she can sometimes be responsible for her own self-discipline.

I highly recommend this book to parents, grandparents and to all of those who give care to children.

A clear account of a very complicated transformation
The Dutch revolt is a pivotal event in European history that remains blurry and poorly understood by most people. Mr. Parker does an excellent job of clearly explaining the sequence of events as well as their context. A very readable style and a refreshingly objective perspective carry the story with just the right level of detail for the interested reader. I am very happy to have read this book and recommend it warmly to anybody interested in history.

Europes First Republic
This is the best history ever written about the Dutch Revolt - a series of upheavals from 1568 to 1648 - which led to the independent United Provinces. This was Europes first republic which survived until the French Revolution.

Excellent book must for anybody in e-commerce field
This simply the excellent book. I have Noel's other book named e-commerce developer's guide which is simply excellent too. And both books complete the topic e-commerce best way. These two books use enterprize level database, uses stored procedures, Active server pages to make websites which are excellent and can modify in any way reader can think, I mean database connectivety is flexble enough to adapt to most scenerios. Good thing is that most of webhosting providers are happy to host these type of sites because of least use of dll components, I mean i have never faced any problem with webhost providers becuase I use the same method as given in Noels books of e-commerce.

Need to build a community site??? This is the book!!!
I have been searching for quite a while that demonstrated how to build community sites using ASP and SQL. This is the book! It provides great code frameworks with excellent explanations.

Thanks Noel!

An excellent resource and text...
Moore and Bruder have, in my view, provided an excellent philosophical resource. The 3rd and 4th editions have proved invaluable in my work, both as a student and an instructor. I have no doubt that the 5th edition equals its predecessors and would readily adopt it as the required text in any Introductory Philosophy course.

the best of philosophy all in one book!
This book does an excellent job of explaining concepts and ideas of different philosophers throughout history. It is almost like Cliffs Notes for philosophy. I would recommend this book to anyone who is having trouble understanding the readings of Plato, Aristotle, Hegel, Hume, Spinoza, Kant, or any other great minds. This book is an excellent reference and is highly recommended.

Addendum to Gruenig review
Hans Gruenig has given an excellent overview of Gebser's monumental work. My review offers a sort of color commentary to augment Gruenig's words. The Ever-Present Origin, which has a generic-looking cover, is an extraordinarily rich survey of art, science, culture, and symbolism from an author who achieved more than scholarly excellence. In a letter written to Georg Feuerstein, Gebser acknowledged achieving satori (see the Feuerstein book cited by Gruenig). A transcendent consciousness shines through this book. One of its highlights is Gebser's scholarly survey of the evolution of soul. Gebser's vision was formed in part through his friendship and acquaintence with many of the leading people of his time, including Einstein, Picasso, and Jung. Although he taught for awhile at the C. G. Jung Institute in Zurich, he asserts an independent vision. An essential Gebserian contribution is his subsuming of the scientific worldview. That worldview crystallized with the linear perspective geometry of the Italian Renaissance, a drawing technique that artificially separated subject and object. Gebser convincingly demonstrates the emergence of an integral consciousness where the time and space of "objectivity" no longer offer an adequate description of our world or personal experience. This book is a masterpiece, written in simple, somewhat repetitive language. It is quite readable, though a bit awkward in translation.

Gebser's Magnum Opus
This book is not a light read. However it is a fascinating read penned by one of Europe's hidden philosophical treasures: Jean Gebser. The Ever-Present Origin is a translation of _Ursprung und Gegenwart_, a book which was published in German in two parts around 1949 and 1953. The central contribution of this book is Gebser's analysis of the history of culture -- mainly but not exclusively Western culture -- in terms of the predominance of different modes of consciousness. Gebser details five structures of consciousness: the archaic, the magical, the mythical, the mental, and the integral (or aperspectival). His theory seems to be that these structures unfold in a sequential but non-linear fashion (i.e. in quantum increases in the self-transparency of consciousness), and have different kinds of characteristic ways of experiencing self, other, and world. With each leap, the previous structures of consciousness are superceded and yet retained in a subordinate fashion. Meanwhile, the other structures lie largely latent and untapped. VERY briefly, the archaic is instinctual and primitive. The magical is tribal and involves participation mystique. The mythical is imaginative and often involves seeing through complementary polarities (darkness and light, good and evil). The mental is analytical, dualistic, and skeptical of the other structures of consciousness. And the integral structure allows for a re-membering of all of the structures of consciousness without the problematic reification of their respective "worlds". The integral or aperspectival structure additionally involves going beyond the previous four structures in something akin to Buddhist or Christian (a la Meister Eckhart) enlightenment as understood in terms of the perennial philosophy. If you're looking for an easier read, Georg Feuerstein's introduction to Gebser (titled _Structures of Consciousness: The Genius of Jean Gebser_) is a good place to start. If you're looking for a place to continue similar explorations, much of Ken Wilbur's work is largely based on synthesizing Gebser's theory of structures of consciousness with other developmental models. [I give Wilbur and A for effort, but I am very skeptical about a number of his syntheses.]

A bitter pill
Similar in some respects to Mike Curtis' 'CQB', this is an account of the author's SAS career, having joined via the parachute regiment in the 1970s. It divides up into three distinct battlefields - Oman, the Falklands the the Gulf, with the meat of the book taking place in the latter area. The first two sections are fairly run-of-the-mill, although it's interesting to compare the Falklands section with Max Hastings' 'Battle for the Falklands' and the aforementioned 'CQB', as one particular moment - in which an SAS soldier shoots down an Argentine aircraft with a Stinger - pops up in all three books, each from a slightly different perspective.
It's the coverage of the Gulf war that's particularly interesting, though, as Ratcliffe took part in an SAS operation that's been gone over comprehensively in other books, books which he has read. Consequently, like some real-life 'Rashomon', he points out the exaggerations and untruths in 'Bravo Two Zero', 'Sabre Squadron' and others, all books which you can find elsewhere on Amazon.com. Whilst he seems slightly petulant at times (his account of leading a patrol gives the impression that he was blissfully unaware that he might come across as being, well, smug), it makes for fascinating reading...

AN EXTREMELY INTERESTING INSIGHT INTO THE SPECIAL FORCES
I've read a few Special Forces books but this one is by far and away the best one yet. There's so much in it that one doesn't usually hear about and also I enjoyed 'Billy's' sense of humour which crops up now and again. Tremendous read.

My favorite novel of all time
A Farewell to France has to be one of the best, romantic novels I have ever read as well as the only book I bought three times. Its one of those great stories that one can read over and over and yet still enjoy. I especially love the detail and descriptions of Paris, St. Germain de Pres and the Champagne region of France. Like the previous reviewer, I have always hoped the book would be turned into a movie. I totally recommend Farewell to France for those who enjoy historical fiction, love France, appreciate Champagne and search for passionate love stories.

An epic, I loved it!
It has been many years since I had the pleasure of reading this book, but the enjoyment of having done so remains. It is much more than a WWIIstory or Romance. The characters are outstanding, and the plot engaging. This is a BIG story. My mother and I have spent a lot of time in the past fifteen years or so casting the miniseries. Of course, we wouldn't really want a movie, they never are the same, are they? I wish I had a copy to re-read -- same old story, I loaned it out and never got it back...If you ever come across a copy, don't hesitate to read it. A treat that lasts and lasts...

Most Helpful Guide
As a recently divorced dad struggling for a way to deal with the court system and my relationship with my 8 year old daughter, I found Fathers Are Forever to be invaluable. This book truly is a "how to" guide for fathers (as well as mothers) who want to retain a strong relationship with their children while rebuilding their lives. After reading the book, I attended several of the author's workshoips and came away very impressed with his sincerity and knowledge. As I am both a Ph.D and a law student, I was particularly impressed by the author's insight into basic human psychology as well as the legal system. I recommend Fathers Are Forever in the strongest terms!

Fathers Are Forever: A Co-Parenting Guide for the 21st Cent.
In Fathers Are Forever, author Steve Ashley is a relentless advocate for co-parenting and the importance of fathers in their childrens' lives. He speaks to divorced men in an easy to read, understandable style. Most chapters conclude with practical action steps guiding the father through the potential difficulties of co-parenting and the custody process. The book is very validating of fathers, and their experiences in divorce. It is also realistic in its assessment of the bias that fathers face in the custody process, while providing strategy for dealing with that bias.

While helpful at any stage of co-parenting, I believe Fathers Are Forever can be an especially important, supportive took for fathers who are early in the divorce process. Written primarily for fathers and speaking directly to them, this book can also be helpful for anyone involved in co-parenting, including mothers and associated caregivers. Fathers Are Forever is a welcome addition to the toolbox for raising children when divorce occurs.

Natural history of plants in lyric form
Every so often there is a book that is worth reading simply for the pleasure of the words in it, separate from whatever the author is trying to say or tell the reader. This is such a book. The effect is akin to being immersed in the depths of a symphony of words. Otherwise Peattie does an excellent job of explaining the evolution and development of the earths flowering plants. His writing is easily understood and opens botany to the more or less uninformed reader. Read this book for pleasure or for information. You will be pleased you sampled it. This is my second copy. I lent the first out and lost a friend to the book

ALL LIFE IS ONE
In this distinguished history of the plant kingdom, Donald Culross Peattie, botanist and nature writer extraordinaire, imaginatively demonstrates that the fates of all living things are bound together. This is nature writing at its best. In the intervening years since this book was written, scientists have made many new discoveries, but few nature writers have surpassed the stylistic beauty and illuminative insight displayed by the author in Flowering Earth. I recommend it to anyone interested in nature. The thoughts expressed are timeless
