The Italian poet Eugenio Montale wrote in his Nobel acceptance speech that any book spawns a virtual ideal reader, the book's "target". Well, I wonder whether on earth there's a better atavar of this book's target than me. I read this book a long time ago and it marked my perception of a decisive hisorical as well as existential moment. The description of Nazi-occupied Europe is the most vivid and convincing I have ever read or otherwise experienced. You have to read the German, English and Russian newspapers of those years to get the same flavour, except that here the apocalyptic weirdness and ambiguity of the whole are masterfully exploded. It is an eerie, intense book.

Brook's ability to communicate emotion is very strong. She has grabbed my attention and that of my friends, I look forward to future poetry from this author.

Her poetry will immortalize her.

Having recently completed a safari in Southern Africa, I had the chance to evaluate many portable field guides on the fauna of the region. I found Smither's ( a smaller version of the encyclopedic tome that is considered the benchmark work on southern African mammals) to be informative, easy to use, and beautifully illustrated. Helpful for both the naturalist as well as the sportsman, there are comparitive scale drawings that are quite accurate. A must for nature-oriented travelers to the region.

I was impressed by the scholarship and analysis. Having met Jim Noren, I can attest to the depth behind the words. I can't recommend it enough.

This "anthology" by Noel Coward is wickedly funny. It contains brief biographies, photographs, and selections of poems by made-up poets, each as funny as the next. The names are priceless, e.g., E.A.I. Maunders, Crispin Pither, et. al. The perfect gift for the poet with a sense of humor.

I've read the book several times, and find the material to be quite interesting and entertaining. I would recommend it to aviation history buffs...

This collection of short stories is nothing short of amazing. Please treat yourself to these underrated and terrifically "performed" pieces. Of particular note is the title piece "Star Quality." Mr. Coward, using his keen wit and history in the theatre, writes a humorous, touching, and biting story of a play from it's beginning to opening night introducing many memorable characters on the way, from the aging diva, to the gay writer and director (interesting since I believe the works were written pre-Gay Lib). Bitchiness reigns supreme. If you like "All About Eve" you will certainly enjoy this story as well as the others on the tapes.

This is a valuable reference material for anyone doing serious research on projectile points and cutting tools or for the collector/hobbyist.
The format is user friendly, the illustrations are excellent and the information is thorough.
This book is a great addition to any reference collection.

This book has been in print for many years because it is the definitive history of literary Paris for the expatriates of the 1920s and 1930s. It is now happily used as a text book in universities, but is intented as a good read for any general reader interested in Hemingway, Stein, Joyce, Pound, and company.
