The book consists of 31 essays, each one a gem of insight and experience. I often found myself comparing what he wrote to what I had read elsewhere--or experienced personally--and found him many steps ahead. Reinventing the Brand is a lot of FUN when you're able to follow these connections!
You'll get more out of the book if you're beyond the basics. Kapferer doesn't spend much time explaining concepts that others have explored previously. But he is exquisitely direct and convincing when showing how to make better use of those good but imperfect ideas that tend to cloud your vision.

This book is an important step in that direction. By presenting academically serious, reliable, but still sympathetic portraits of the five great religious founders, it provides a basis for genuine dialogue between the faiths. It is an excellent book. The authors are first-rate, and the writing is generally clear and occasionally even quite good.
I wish it weren't so expensive, but I hope that it will nonetheless have a large readership. I recommend it enthusiastically.

Ms. Brennan confided to me recently in a chatroom interview at the French cuisine site that she gained about ten pounds while testing the recipes for the book.
The recipes are all very traditional dishes you'd find in homes and bistros all over France and are simple enough for a confident and even a new cook to recreate.
Along with the delicious, hearty French recipes are little anecdotes sprinkled throughout that shed light on useful things like using creme fraiche. A perfect gift for a francophile, cook or someone who loves good classic cuisine without hours of preparation involved. The book is so vibrant and lovely you'll want to leave it on the coffee table to make your guests salivate while they wait for dinner.

The nice thing is that it is easy to understand, and gives related info on retaining walls, (what I work with, mostly) and soil mechanics.
So after 20 years, I am grateful for this opportunity. One can not say enough about the Schaum's Series. I graduated college 30 years ago next month with a degree in Civil Engineering, and if it weren't for Schaum's (and Cliff's notes for that English Class) I don't know how I would ever have done it.
Agree all the titles that I have had experience with are excellent, simple to understand, and economical, too even though the current prices are more than they were 20-30 years ago when I purchased most of my Schaum's library. Keep up the good work.

The book covers the top concerns problems and challenges facing the single parent based upon a survey of 500 single parents:
Household management (cooking, cleaning, chores, etc.), balancing work and family, finances, childcare, emotional health for children and parents, and much more.
Although I'm not personally a single parent, I found the guide helpful for any busy parent. Many of the categories and tips are applicable to anyone.
I just wish Amazon.com didn't offer this book by special order only---it's definitely the type of resource single parents need to get into their hands right away.

Witness his boyhood excitement during a Civil War clash outside his home, the comedic sight of former enemies trading verbal insults in the Irish parliament, and the hypocrisy of some of the leading players therein.
We have the desperate hard work of his parents, the cruel treatment of his mother by her family, and the sight of his family's destruction by disease, all sensitively measured by Dr.Browne against the knowledge that this little boy's suffering is repeated a thousand-fold across Ireland.
Remembering this, he accepted the chance to become a doctor, transgressing centuries-old sectarian rules which would hamper his future progress. After entering Irish politics he discovered that the ultimate power in Ireland lay not with elected politicians but with the bishops of the Catholic church, whose opulent lifestyle contrasted poignantly with the terrible hardships of the masses, and whose actions to prevent free medical care for mothers and children and to demonise him from the pulpit left him disillusioned with the religion and the Irish Parliament.
Further medical training brought him into the psychiatric field, where he found barriers as high as ever. He could have had an easier life in England or the USA, however he choose to stay and help Ireland develop in spite of itself and at a considerable personal cost.
There is anger and bitterness, but never is Dr.Browne understated about his own inadequacies. A wonderful, frank and engaging autobiography. A five-star read.
