Farewell is a a rare Gem
If you are interested in the the british military mission and role in the Russian Civil war in south Russia 1919, this book is a must! Williamson was a British military advisor for the white Russian troops and personally eyewitnessed many things recorded never before or since. The book is the actual transcript of his diary found by his son or great grand son and published in 1971. Very valuable.

The Illustrations just seem to jump off of the page! Even the Wise men look wise! Patrick T. McRae is one of my all-time favorite illustrators, and this book represents his best work! The book is an illustrated version of the classic Christmas song; your children will love it!

Very well researched!
As a devoted 1000 island cottager, I was particularly impressed by the detail that the author included. While I have boated by many of the islands myself, I found that I really knew very little about them until I read this book. A true find for those who enjoy a colorful rendition of the local history.

Timeless
I first read this book at the age of 10. Fifteen years on I have just read it again. I wondered whether it would stand a test of years, but the second time round, I loved it more. Diana is a little girl living in a beautiful old house with eccentric relatives in the 1920s. She has 'querks' that only her Nanny understands (and sometimes she is hard pushed). Diana is loveable and hilarious - her perspective on the lives of the Grown Ups around her reduces me to tears of laughter and it's impossible to read the book without a deep sense of mourning for one's own childhood.
Diana suffers the plight of a sensitive and loving soul in the hands of many adults who do not know or care how to nurture her, and it is impossible to read Five to Seven without hating those adults who torment young children, even in small ways. The book is heartbreaking as well as full of fancy and must not be missed by anyone with a fascination for the 20s or for tales of growing up amongst confusing, and sometimes simply bad people.

An excellent hisory of the loss of Tibet to China.
An excellent account of the Chinese takeover of Tibet. Barber interviews a cross section of Tibetan society, from the top officials to the lowest peasant, to show how the invasion effected the entire society. Barber is not a Tibet-o-phile, but is an anti-communist. I believe that his other books also are about societies under siege by communists.

A wonderful trip through a fascinating period in History.
Reading this account of History about the Georgian Bay area reminded me of many of the "oldtimers" I have met through the years on Manitoulin Island. I have been going there for 50 years and I have observed that a lot of this area has been standing still in time. Growth is very slow and rightly so, because of the inaccessibility of much of the land. The people I have met are true pioneers with the heart and spirit to match. They are hard-working people with a love of the land and a determination to make the most of what they have. We could all take a lesson from these people steeped richly in their heritage.

Breaking through into purpose
This book is exception for Born Again Christians who accept the word of Reformation. As the church gears up for the endtime, our position in the spirit is fundamental to achieving God's purpose on the earth. This book gives Biblical examples of our "spiritual ancestors" who achieved God's purpose in their day by assuming the correct spiritual position.
It is then possible to go from victory to victory as this book clearly shows us.
