A practical book of self-hypnosis scripts
I know of no better book with practical self-hypnosis scripts, for personal use. With the author's guidelines, anyone can learn what self-hypnosis is, how to use it, and can use an ordinary tape recorder to create great results.

As a hypnotherapist myself, I have sometimes used Henry's scripts with clients, and have found them helpful for myself, as well.

Yes! You'll like this book!

Good combo of "funny" and "informative"
I picked this up for our daughter at the Monterey Bay Aquarium's Splash Zone exhibit. I had some reservations at first but they were quickly put to rest after my daughter started laughing and quoting facts about penguin behaviour and penguin species (for about 1 hour of our drive home). The book is nicely done with a combination of simple cartoons, jokes, beautiful photographs, and natural science information. I'm hoping that the authors come up with more of this series. I've already put in an order for their other book, "Cat Nap". Nice job folks!

Some Sense About Wilhelm Reich
Published in Hardcover by Philosophical Library (December, 1977)
Author: Leo. Raditsa
Amazon base price: $6.00
Used price: $24.95
Average review score:

An excellent critical assessment of Reich's life and work.
Leo Raditsa assesses the work of Reich, who was a follower of Freud and head of the training seminar for young analysts in Vienna. Raditsa focuses on Reich's experience with patients, with the fact that they did not become cured despite the fact that therapy made them aware of their unconscious conflicts. Raditsa shows how, beginning with this experience, Reich discovered the character armor -- a bodily rigidity, developed in response to early traumas, that prevented striaghtforward experiences of love and feeling. Raditsa then shows how the armor, by rendering men incapable of love, also made them incapable of work, responsibility, and freedom. Raditsa traces -- and criticizes -- Reich's involvement with marxism as a social consequence of his therapeutic discoveries. Raditsa admits that he does not have the scientific competence to assess Reich's later claims about discovering life-energy (orgone energy). Raditsa's book does, however, make it understandable why Reich moved from examining individual patients, to politics, to claims about nature as a whole -- a movement always rooted in his experience of people, and nature, and his patients' distance from nature and love. Throughout the book, Raditsa is able to distinguish the merits of Reich's work without (like many of Reich's followers) being a disciple, and without (like many of Reich's critics) simply dismissing Reich. In my view, this is the best introduction to Reich for a beginner, as well as the best critical appraisal for those already familiar with Reich's work. If one wishes to read Reich himself first, then _Character Analysis_ is sufficient to be able to assess independently the value of Raditsa's commentary. One may be able to order Raditsa's book from the St. John's College Bookstore (Annapolis, MD), where Raditsa teaches, and where I was a student.

Stewards of Access Custodians of Choice: A Philosophical Foundation for the Park and Recreation Profession
Published in Paperback by Sagamore Publishing, Inc. (June, 1995)

Used price: $5.50

Magnificent Responsibilities and Rewards
From the outset, Dustin, McAvoy and Schultz let us know how important recreation is in our lives. As a college major and even professional discipline, recreation management is often met with snickers or skepticism as to its value. This book enlightens the reader to the magnificent responsibilities and rewards that professionals in the recreation/leisure services field are given. A short book, but contained within the 100 or so pages is depth and beauty few other professional books have. These authors have thoughtfully and thoroughly explored the essence of recreation management on public lands in contemporary America. Drawing from such disparate works as Veblen's "Theory of the Leisure Class", Adam Smith's "Wealth of Nations", Alexis de Tocqueville's "Democracy in America", and numerous contemporary writers, Dustin, McAvoy, and Schultz are able to approach the centrality of recreation from a number of different perspectives.

At the root of their thesis is the idea that recreation management works best when it works for all--including the natural environment. It is no small challenge for recreation managers to attempt to balance the wants and needs of a recreating public with the restraints necessary to protect, in some cases, delicate natural resources.

This book is a must-read for anyone who manages natural resources available for recreation, for those people charged with teaching classes in recreation management and finally for those students who aspire to a career providing recreation opportunities and/or protecting the environment. "Stewards of Access/Custodians of Choice" is at its best when the reader lets go of perceived professional constraints (e.g. budgets, too little time, students who don't seem to care, professors who care only about theory and not about the real world) and soars on the wings of potential. We need not manage for the masses. We cannot continue to evaluate ethical decisions based on economics. And we will never advance as a people while continuing to think of things as dichotomous: culture versus nature. The echoing conclusion is what a magnificent world this would (and could) be if, through recreation, we encourage all people to respect, honor, and care for others and the environment.

Schoenberg speaks of music with wit
Arnold Schoenberg shows his genius when it comes to music in this book. He speaks formaly of style and idea in music. He talks about ways to compose music, which makes this book a must for any music student. He also speaks about individual composers, and what he thinks of them. I wont say more, because there is just so much knowledge in this book. I will say, that if you have interest in music, composing particularly, buy this book. It is an investment that will pay off for a lifetime.
