Of all of Leo's books, this one is the VERY best.
Bus 9 to Paradise offers a collection of insightful and entertaining short stories, told with the wisdom of Buscaglia. Although any one of these stories could comprise an entire library of knowledge, the collection as a whole exerts a synergistic effort on the reader to explore inner feelings and emotions to which very few authors can even come close.

fascinating account of 16th century prague
This book is Leo Perutz' monument to his childhood home prague, a fascinating tapestry that brings together the stories of historical people such as Wallenstein as well as of fictional characters. Further more, it is a tribute to Jewish life, written after the catastrophy of WWII when the Jewish culture Perutz came from had been destroied. As always with this author the plot is developed magnificently and the language beautiful. Definitely recomended!

A thoroughly beautiful cookbook. Wonderfully illustrated!
John Carroll and Virginia Rainy have done a marvelous job on the California the Beautiful Cookbook. The book is an excellent addition to anyone's coffee-table collection, as well as an inspiring work for the moderately experienced cook. John has spent years as a personal chef in California - his experience, excellent taste, and personal warmth are infused in this wonderful cookbook. His recipes are practical and incredibly delicious. My personal favorite is the crab-salad sandwich on sourdough, I've served it to many guests and always with rave reviews. This cookbook is divided into regions of California. In becoming acquainted with the book you are becoming acquainted with the culinary traditions of a myriad of cultures and flavors. This is a must-have cookbook for the serious collector - I can't believe it's out of print - do yourself a favor and find a used copy of California the Beautiful, a cookbook you will use and enjoy over and over again!

A teacher's review
After seven years of teaching English as a foreign language, I have to say that this is my favorite textbook. The combination of interesting texts with realistic listening exercises and practical grammar gives students exposure to authentic English in realistic settings. Jigsaw communication activities assure that students have real information to convey to one another. Much of the vocabulary development requires that students actively seek words they need to discuss the topic -- hard to test but it helps with retention.
The prominence of small group discussions and communication activities does make the book better suited to mixed language groups, but this is not an insurmountable obstacle.

A Portrait of the Invisible
Koerner has written a philosophical masterpiece in the form of an art book. Caspar David Friedrich is one of the most complex and thought-provoking of nineteenth-century artists, whose whose exploration of perception shows up in his most mundane paintings as well as his most grandiose.
Koerner shows us how even a painting of something as simple as a bushy thicket in the snow contains many subtle contradictions and complexities that baffle the eye as we examine it more closely. The apparent simplicity and underlying intensity of many of his works is similar to that of Edward Hopper, on whom he seems to have been a major influence (and this book bears comparison with Kranzfelder's "Hopper").
Friedrich specialized in painting the human figure seen from behind (rueckenfigur), and this ties in with sense of nostalgia that is a major component of his art. A really notable example of this is "Abbey Graveyard under Snow", a painting of a ruined mediaeval monastery with a spectral procession of monks from a bygone age; this painting was destroyed by bombing in 1945 and exists only in reproduction - a ghostly painting of ghosts.
Koerner's dense prose is heavy going, but well worth the effort because it contains so much; the author evidently has a thorough grounding in philosophy as well as a great sympathy for his subject.
The last chapter is entitled "deja vu", and this sums up one of the main feelings aroused by this art. The last sentence is worth quoting:
"And it arrests you on the Dresden heath, before the thicket in winter, when what you thought were just alders in the snow are fragments of your darkest history".

great book
I have read this book to learn more about the in line chevrolet engine and what can be done with this engine. This book answered all my questions and more. It does not cover any 12 port heads though, hybrid heads are covered in one chapter. Leo Santucci was nice enough to list most modifactions by purpose (street, street/strip, all out drag) and tells you what to do to get the performance you desire without building an unuseable engine. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking the build a six with more than stock perforamnce.

BRILLIANT
What a shame that this title is out of print. CLEAR BLUE finds Connellan at the height of his exceptional abilities. No one else writing today holds a long poem together as well as Connellan.
This is one of the great works of genius to come out of the second half of the American century. Connecticut's poet laureatte is one of America's best kept literary secrets, and this is his most powerful, fully realized work.
