A truly delightful bedtime story for kids
Happy With Me is an fully engaging and entertaining picturebook story written by Leo Timmers and filled with his amazing, artistic and slightly post-modern color illustrations about the joys and fantasies a young boy has in his dreams. In dreams, the boy can become any creature he's read about, from a strong elephant to soaring bird to a deep-sea octopus. Happy With Me is enthusiastically recommended as a truly delightful bedtime story for kids ages 3 through 6.

Slice of Life Among the Navajo
I actually have studied the Navajo culture and have a story with a Navajo protagonist in the anthology, Unholy Orders. But what Leo Du Lac offers here are really incredible insights into contemporary Navajo society. He has a terrific set of characters. The protagonist, Wassaja (an Osage Indian who lives among the Navajo), is unique. He knows who he is and who he is not. He knows his frailties and his failings--as well as his aims. The reader can only empathize with him--he's so well drawn, and such an innocent for all his life's experiences.

This is a very charming story. The relationships are very well drawn and realistic. The turning point--Wassaja inheriting a whole lot of money--serves as a catalyst for many unusual juxtapositions that we wouldn't be able to otherwise witness. The depictions here are a lot of fun and very wise. Du Lac examines everything in this rather interesting mix of people and motivations in a totally honestly, in-depth, unshrinking, but entertaining way. Good dialogue, good background, good characters, nice insights, and good writing. G. Miki Hayden, author of Writing the Mystery--a Macavity winner and Agatha and Anthony nomination

A Beautiful Book!!
I can't recommend this book highly enough! It's a terrific story...AND the writing is just gorgeous. The format--alternating chapters telling the story from the perspectives of each of 2 characters/authors--is perfect for the material. Buy this book!

The other classic transation
This is the complete Douay-Rheims Bible, Challoner revision, both the Old and New Testament according to the Catholic canon. Until the 1940's this was THE Catholic Bible in English, rivaling the King James Bible in stature, if not influence. It was completed in 1609, and revised in 1750. I own this very edition (ISBN 1-930278-24-1), and it is excellent: hardcover, clearly printed on sturdy paper in an easy to read, if somewhat old-fashioned, font. It is a careful translation of the Clementine Vulgate, and makes a splendid companion to that version for the novice latinist.

A Love Supreme
Father Pyzalski manages to get to the heart of God's will quite succinctly in virtually every situation in which a person may find himself. Though written for those living the religious life, the lessons from this little book are nonetheless applicable to the rest of us mortals. Tougher than Marine boot camp for most of us yet vastly simple to the meek and humble of heart, God's will is there whether we like it or not. Let's face it, most of us don't. Yet, we wonder why we are not truly happy.

Absolute Genius! Assimilationists look out!
This is the most reasonable, well organized work on gay political culture in existence. Bersani delves beyaonf the rhetoric, and into the psyche of society and the gay culture, making clear why "de-gaying gayness" is a travesty to all parts of society. It is a must reaa for anyone grappling with their sense of society, belonging, be-ing.

Eloise, we love you too!
HONEY, I LOVE and other love poems is simply put, one of the all-time best books of poetry ever written - and it is loved and enjoyed by adults as well as children. Eloise Greenfield's poetry is full of wisdom, simplicity, and elegance. The title poem reflects a childhood any child would be privileged to have - a "flying pool," a cousin from the South whose words just kinda "slide" out of his mouth, a Mama whose arm is for holding her child...and for being kissed. What more could anyone need? The other poems are brilliant as well - especially HARRIET TUBMAN who didn't "take no stuff." This poem, in fact, is an anthem for school children everywhere, who love a hero and aspire to be one as well. Poetry doesn't get any better than the stuff that comes out of Eloise Greenfield's experiences, heart, and pen. As an author and teacher myself, I admire the timeless nature and awesome craftwork in this book, and I share it every chance I get. Honey, you'll love it!

Compelling Drama
This is an excellent book, a very quick read. The authors do an outstanding job of capturing the South Texas Catholic culture as well as the personalities of all of the main characters. This story would make for great non-fiction, but it's completely true, the characters all real. Anyone interested in cattle barons, oil bidness, a little Catholic church history, and the modern day "Old West" should read this compelling work.
