wonderful read!
i just finished reading this wonderful book and decided to review it. to be honest had i seen it on a shelf somewhere i would never have picked it, it's just not my normal style. but a friend from work loaned it to me and one evening i got bored enough to give it a try. i was immediately hooked! the people were wonderful and the story was breathtaking. my only problem was that it took nick so long to find toss again. other than that it was everything my friend promised it would be. you can be sure that i'll be borrowing books from her more in the future.
An Intelligent and Touching Story
I used to sneer at romance novels but this book won me over to the genre. (Now I'm addicted.) I liked Torch Song because for once I could actually indentify with the heroine. I was delighted to read that like me, Toss is a historian and teacher and not a model, a hot-shot lawyer, a medieval hellion who wears her brother's clothes or antique dealer or any of the other cliches. And Nick was also a delight--a tough guy with a heart of gold. A definite keeper.
Beautiful Love Story-A Love that transcends time.
This book is the perfect novel for lovers of time travel. When Toss and Nick meet, they are not crazy for each other. (But is one of them actually going crazy? They certainly think they are.) Their relationship develops, literally, over time. Their's is a love that will last forever.
Fall in love with Nick. You can't help yourself. And Toss is his perfect match. When the book ends you will find it hard to leave these two characters behind. This wonderful book realy calls for a sequel.

great book
This is a wonderful book that gives the reader a feel for all social levels during the medieval times. I especially enjoyed The Wife of Bath's Tale. I recommend this book to anyone. It is interesting while being entertaining at the same time.
Very Insightful Piece of Literature!!!
Chaucer has given me a greater insight into life in the 14th century. We see the hypocrisy of the "genteel" people of the time. He has also transcended the boundaries of time for we can still see evidence of this hypocrisy in todays society. The Wife is a strong female character and the reader can not be certain if she is feminist or anti-feminist nor can they be certain if Chaucer is laughing at her or with her. This was a very crafty device by Chaucer's and he must be commended for it. This device is shown in how long Chaucer allows the Wife to speak about herself, it is the longest prologue in the book except of course for the General Prologue. The Wife's views and issues can also be seen in her choice of tale but her voice seems somewhat more subdued here and we can distinctly see Chaucer's own views and ideas coming out in the tale. The very poetic style in which it is written also intices the reader to read on. Altogether quite an insightful piece of literature.

just great
I don't know whom to start with, the writer or the illustator. The book is very funny and to top it the drawings add humor to it. My 8 and a half years old boy laughed and loved it. Because we liked it so, we bought winnie can fly which is just as great.
Ran to buy it or just klick it.

You and your children will love Winnie and Wilbur
I found this book at the library. My 4 and 6 year old love it so much they asked for their own copy to have for always. Winnie's whole house is black and so is her cat Wilbur. This presents a problem when Winnie trips over Wilbur several times. She decides the solution is to magically turn him multi-colored but Wilbur is so unhappy Winnie changes him back and comes up with a much better solution. Any child will love this endearing story. Winnie the Witch is a great read anytime of the year.
Will capture kids imaginations
A wonderful brilliantly illustrated book. It's impact has been so large in the UK, that children now draw their witches with socks the same colour as Winnie's.
Not just for Halloween.

Excellent companion
For anyone interested in either discovering new trails to ride your bike on in new jersey or someone with an interest in rail
roading in the garden state the book is highly recommended. I live in northern n.j. (west paterson) and have taken the book with me on rides through some of the longer northern n.j. trails and have found the directions to the trail the sites to see and the remaining RR structures along the trail described very accurately. (Although the author seems to have missed mentioning the RR mile markers remaining on the essex branch by my house! ) Anyway i am 33 y.o. and i find that these long trails are sometimes a nice break from the more typical mtn. biking type of riding i also like to do in some of new jersey's other state parks. Dont get me wrong though ,these trails can certainly provide a great workout too. I recommend the southern section of the columbia trail through ken lockwood gorge as the nicest area in northern n.j.

Fantastic! Trail detail with the history of the railroads!
This book is quite unique & even better than the author's previous book on the rail-trails of New England. Three things distinguish this book from others:
(1) Insight into the history of the railroads.
(2) Useful & reliable descriptions of each trail.
(3) Needs of both cyclists & hikers are addressed.
A must-have for any rail-trail rider or hiker who wondered about the railroads that once ruled the trail.

unputdownable and unforgettable
From the Bascove illustration on its cover to its haunting last line, Valerie Martin's "Alexandra" will hold you in thrall like a witch's spell. Martin's plots are so devious she simply cannot be outguessed. All you can do is hang on for dear life as her story careers exhilaratingly through its endless thrilling surprises and shocking revelations. After reading this novel I was unable to read another book for nearly a week. Everytime I tried "Alexandra" kept intruding between me and the new story. I couldn't get it out of my head, and neither will you be able to. Valerie Martin's imagination ought to be registered with the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms as both a dangerous implement and an addictive substance. Do yourself a favor and get hooked.
Dazzling portrayal of the power of sexual attraction!
Couldn't put it down -- Calling Valeria Martin "the female Faulkner" doesn't do her justice... a tour de force to be able to write a sexually charged novel from the male perspective... Gave me much insight into my own dark feelings of sexuality. No coincidence that her most famous work, "Mary Reilly", is based on "The Strange Tale of Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde," by Robert Louis Stevenson. He wrote, "All men have thoughts which would shame Hell." Martin explores this familiar-but-taboo terrain, uniting us all in the humanity of our deepest desires. This book grows on you, and you will be haunted by it if you're at all fascinated by the mystical nature of sexuality!

A delightful read!
The late Valerie Worth is well remembered in this volume of nature poems. They are short and sweet, with neat imagery. I used this book to help my daughter, a struggling reader, to read, by reading with her, and sometimes singing the poems as though they were lyrics.
Simple titles like "Pie" and "Toad" evoke a simple life...yet the poems stir the imagination, too: "The watering can rusts among friends." Mm. Natalie Babbit's line drawings complement the poems without fail.

A wonderful collection!
This book is a great collection of poems about nature. My children love these poems, and they are great to teach with.

Excellent Reference!!!
I Love this book! It has helped me tremedously. I found the references and tips to be thorough without being overwhelming. Just enough information to help you understand and at the same time inspire you to re-read the verse, chapter, book and usually with a different point of view. It is like someone just turned on the lights! This book is informative, interesting and entertaining. I highly recommend it to every christian young and old. Would make a great gift to non-christians as well.
FANTASTIC!
This book is wonderful for new Christians! Or to refresh your memory. It has helped me more in one day than I have learned in a month reading the bible. What a useful tool it has been. I make sure I have this along with the bible wherever I go. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in learning and gaining knowledge from the bible. Or who needs help in studying or knowing how to read the bible and how to get out information to help you.

Another failure
This boxed set is jsut as mediocre as the first, recycling more stories from American Girl magazine and re-editing them for a book format. The highlights of this set are Samantha Saves the Wedding and Molly and the Movie Star. Felicity has more quarrels with Annabelle Cole in the Felicity story, Josefina gets frustrated with the piano in the Josefina story, Kirsten gets jealous of a new girl in the Kirsten story, and Addy wishes that she were a boy because she feels that she is loosing her brother. These short stories, which for the most part I have stopped collecting (by the way I collect American Girls things as a hobby) are lacking when compared to several other items in the American Girls Collection series. These could have been better. I recommend getting them at a library--but you might hacve a time finding one that has the whole set, since several libraries have quit buying the American Girls Short Stories, at least where I am from.
Wonderful taste of history for young girls!
My almost seven year old daughter has been enjoying AG books on tape and has had at least 20 read to her. Our favorites are the short stories though, because they can be read in one sitting and they have great project ideas geared to the age group. We bought the newest series on July 1 and have read four out of six of the short stories. These books will become favorites for sure, just as the first short story set books are still read over and over again. Thanks for the intro to history in an appropriate format for the early grades.
Awesome
A bunch of little books for a bunch of little kids! a perfect christmas present for any young girl of any age! i know my little girl loves it!
