A story of Love and War!
I know Alex Lee, as well as "Doc" Norton and Paul "Old Man" Keaveney. A. Lee says this book, in my inscription, is a book about love , the love one man has for another, so he is willing to lay his life down for the other! I heartily suggest you read this book, if you want an honest, frank account of war, as seen through the eyes of the men who fought it! I have worked with these men, and written about them. I think the highest compliment I could get was when Alex Lee said to me, Kevin, we read what you wrote and know what was published. You are "One of My Marines"! As a Young Marine Support Staff person, I have had Paul Keaveney come and speak to our Young Marines. I have had "Doc" Norton Speak at our USMC Birthday Balls. They are fine Americans, and honest, dedicated loyal U. S. Marines.!!!!! Semper FI!!

awesome book
This is one of the best books on military leadership I have ever read. LtCol Lee's willingness to highlight not only what he and his unit achieved but also what could have done diffently seperates this book from being just another "I was there" book full of sea stories. Excellent read. I encourage any Marine or Army NCO or officer to pick this book up. Lots of lessons learned future generations can read here.

Great Comic
This third installment of the Dark Horse, Godzilla series is easily the best. The comic is well drawn and the characters are fleshed out; plus, it pays fitting homeage to the orginal Godzilla movies. In it, Godzilla encounters a variety of bizarre creatures and alien beings. He also gets moved through time by a mad scientist. Full of wild plot twists and high quality art, Godzilla: Past Present Future is likely to be enjoyed by Godzilla fans of all ages.

GREAT!
A great collection of some of Dark Horse's Godzilla comics. In these comics, Godzilla battles the Black Hole aliens' (from "GODZILLA VS. MECHAGODZILLA" [1974] and "TERROR OF MECHAGODZILLA" [1975]) mechacial-spider; some giant hunters from outer space; and runs amok through time.

The Great American : A Novel

Commandante Morgan: Adventurer or Great American?
Like any developing nation whose history is partly shaped by the secret agencies of more powerful countries, the history of Cuba, from the controversial sinking of the USS Maine onward, is more myth than historical fact. It is therefore fitting that Alex Abella should use fiction as a means of chronicling this shadowy episode of Cuban history leading up to and immediately following the Cuban Revolution. With it, he probably reveals more about the deeply buried facts than any history text. He also brings it to life with vivid images -from the grotesque terror of Batista's police to a bizarre scene in which the dictator is being scorned by Chango, a Santeria god, during a ceremony in the basement of the Presidential Palace. At times Abella can be a little too whimsical as when a visiting American senator called John F. Kennedy inadvertently gets his head in the way of the assassin's crosshairs during an attempt on Batista, thus foiling a better moment to get rid of the tyrant and might not have saddled Cuba with yet another one. Of course, most Cuban-Americans are prepared to blame the Kennedys for every misfortune short of hurricane season. Elsewhere, though, the format allows for some interesting historical theses to be advanced. This includes the possiblity of a Soviet mole within the C.I.A. thus compromising its ambitious agenda to back all the players on the premise that they would then control the entire chess board. Indeed it is historical fact that the American mission underwent a thorough changing of the guard about a year before the Revolution, documented evidence reflecting suspicions of some sort. It does explain why the Soviets who had an apparent absence from the scene in the early stages of the game wound up with such important political prize. As a rule these things don't just happen. True or not, this is both an entertaining and provocative read from a very talented writer.

A compelling story of a heroic spirit and a truth seeker.
As a Cuban born after the revolution I was taught many lies in Cuban schools as to the events that transpire during those years of the revolution. My parents told me otherwise, they said the truth to me about those events that transpire so long ago. Mr. Abella's recounting, though fictionalized, are as true as what my parents and friends narrated to me.

This book is an educational tool for those that wish to know what turmoils Cubans(Communist or not) went through during that period. The hero, William Morgan, a real life ex-marine, through the eyes of a naive foreigner, later becomes a true Cuban leader whose desire is to rid Cuba of an oppressor. In the end, he realizes that a worse oppressor has arrived, and he tries to correct a wrong.

Being a Cuban-American himself Alex can truly relate to the people in the story, the Cuban personality comes alive in this story. A must read for those who wish to know about my people and their struggle for a Cuba Libre.

A Guide to Worldwide Cowries
Published in Hardcover by Conch Books ()
Authors: Felix Lorenz and Alex Hubert

The Best Monograph I have purchased to date!!!
Without bogging the reader down with endless scientific minutae, this book treats the entire family of cowries in a manner useful to scientists and serious amatures alike. I have several books on cowries and this by far is best. The feature I especially like is the large quantity of high quality photographs of each species giving the reader not just many examples of each species but showing all the subspecies and varieties and explaining the differences. The explanations of the biology, life cycles, habitat and habits etc. is easily understood by nonscientists yet very useful to scientists. My copy came without a dust jacket so I asume that it was published that way...While this book may be purchased directly from the publisher the savings is only slight and is eaten up by the shipping costs from Germany. I recieved mine from Amazon in less than 2 weeks by UPS ground.

Handsdown the best Cypraea (Cowrie) book ever written!
Expensive, but worth it. I have seen numerous other cowrie books (Burgess, Allen, Wallis, etc.) and believe nothing comes close. Lots of specimens showing lots of species variation. Highly recommended.

Island in the Sun

DAY-O!
Places in the heart of Harry Belafonte are captured in this charming book which reflects the beauty of the land of his birth, his island in the sun, Jamaica. White sands, lush colorful flora, lovely images match the lyrics of a song made famous by Mr Belafonte years ago. Children will embrace the pictures and follow the words with laughter. Their parents will remember swaying to lilting calypso rhythms. The next time you are at a baseball or basketball game and you hear a clear distinct "Day-O!", and find yourself and the entire crowd singing right back- -- remember you're responding to none other than this author, Harry Belafonte. That's his voice. So "Come Mr Tallyman- tally me banana- daylight come and me wan' go home."

Island In the Sun
Read this as a book or sing it as a song. This beloved calypso song leads reluctant readers to read as they sing. The illustrations are as bright and atractive as the lyrics. I keep a basket of "Sing Alouds" next to my reading chair. They lift my spirits as well as those of my students. I only wish more of the spirited songs Harry Belefonte introduced to us in the 1960's were available for me to share with my students.

Just right
When her class is given the task of creating a picture, Lucy decides to make hers for her Grandfather who is blind. So she goes about her assignment a bit differently from the rest of the class. Even the teacher does not know what Lucy is up to, which is part of the charm.

Though there are clues sprinkled throughout the story, I think it takes at least two read throughs to find them all. Lucy's enthusiastic pusuit of her goal makes the story zip by in a hurry. Filled with bright colors, this gentle story is never preachy or overbearing, flaws that mar too many kid's books about "differences."

Hi I"m Lucy if like this story you're my friend.
Hi I am Lucy a 6 year old who lives in London. Please read more of Nicola Moon's books. Even though Grandpa can't see he is still wonderful. PLease read Nicola's other books because they are neat. From: Lucy With help from mom

Great characters, great book
George Plimpton wants to write a book about the techniques offensive and defensive lineman. The Mad Duck (Alex Karras) and The Bear (John Gordy) will be used for research. Their first meeting for the book places the author, George, in down lineman position in the apartment of one of the men as they hammer him into lamps and such. From there the book takes off on the minds of Karras and Gordy. It is filled with absolute laugh out loud hilarity. The book finishes with Plimpton at Quarterback, but this time for the World Champion Baltimore Colts. Insights to hall of famers Johnny Unitas and Bubba Smith are must reading for football historians. (Smith looking into a goldfish bowl and talking to the fish, "Bubba, Bubba, Bubba"). One also gets introduced to Bob Irsay who dismantles the team. It is a hint of things to come----a move to Indianapolis.

Funniest book--maybe the best--ever written about football.
Over 25 years after reading this for the first time, I still remember some of the more hilarious moments: Alex Karras's golf tournament, with the shrieks of wild animals echoing from the woods; Joe Schmidt's basement full of horrible recordings of the Detroit Lions singing The Battle Hymn of the Republic (not to mention the unsold vibrators); Bobby Layne sending Karras out for burgers then abandoning the frightened rookie. Interspersed among the laughs are some wonderful tutorials on the art of football where it really matters--in the trenches with the hogs. Offensive guard John Gordy and defensive tackle Alex Karras, two of the greatest ever to play the game, explain the nearly invisible game of blocking and tackling. This is a sort of cult book for true fans of football and great writing. Come join our congregation!
