The definitive book of Metlox Pottery !
This book is the definitive work on Metlox Pottery. It's a "must have" for the collector and enjoyable reading for the person wishing to learn more about California pottery. Full of hundreds of pictures and values, this book is an invaluable guide and resource.

Beyond my expectations
I purchased this book to clear up my conception of some of the Metlox patterns but it opened my eyes to some very collectible pieces that I had been over looking. Nice pictures with several styles in each catagory that eliminates the guess work. As a beginner collector of Metlox I am truly please with this book.

Good Introduction to Colorado's History
This is a great book if you are looking for a fairly thorough introduction to Colorado's history. My only complaint is that it is primarily a history of white civilization in Colorado, and it largely ignores the history of the Native Americans prior to the arrival of the white settlers. Also, this is a fairly long book and it is probably best suited for history buffs. If you are looking for a good introduction to Colorado history, but one with less text and more photographs, I strongly recommend Colorado: Yesterday & Today.

EXCELLENT STUFF ON GOVERNOR DAVIS H. WAITE
THIS BOOK DEVOTES NEARLY TWO CHAPTERS ON GOVERNOR WAITE; a.k.a. BLOODY BRIDLES. FINALLY HISTORIANS RECOGNIZE THE IMPORTANCE OF THIS GREAT AMERICAN LEADER !!!

THE HISTORY IN THIS BOOK ON BLOODY BRIDLES WAITE WOULD BE A SURPRISE TO MOST COLORADO BUFFS. THE HISTORY AND LEGEND OF THE GOVERNOR WILL SOON BE FOUND IN A NOVEL BY HIS GREAT-GRANDSON, FRANK S. WAITE.

Extremely helpful
Clear and concise, with many written samples that can be incorporated directly with some changes to produce a basic personnel policy for your company. Addresses issues of deciding policy as well as how to write the plan itself

An outstanding first book on HRM
As a new practitioner of human resouces management in our company I have found this book particularly valuable. It provides the human resource manager with an essential check list of issues and responsibilities that are an integral part of managing, overseeing, interviewing, and trouble-shooting employee matters.

The authors discuss and explain a wide range of systems that must be in place for a company, large and small, to operate within the parameters of acceptable pactice and to provide the policy protection that the law requires. Forms are provided, interview check lists, sample policy approaches and professional standards are all a part of this valuable workbook.

I would have wanted to see what a personnel file would contain, though I guess the authors expected the readers to do a little work on their own.

A USEFUL AND INTERESTING REFERENCE VOLUME
Thimm's bibliography is one of the unique fencing related volumes of the nineteenth century. Along with Castle's "Schools and Masters of Fence," it should be in every fencing library. As the author of "The Art and Science of Fencing," "The Inner Game of Fencing," and "The Encyclopedia of the Sword;" and the Editor-in-Chief of FENCERS QUARTERLY MAGAZINE, I recommend it.

An invaluable listing of our Western martial heritage
Thimm offers the most complete listing of historical fencing manuals and was one of the most thorough of Victorian era sword scholars. Most importnatly his material lists texts which actually still exist today and are being studied once again. - John Clements, HACA Director

Well-deserving of a Pulitzer Prize!
A magnificent collections by one of the most diverse and gifted minds in American literary history. As a high school English teacher, I often teach the "dark" Sandburg: "Killers," "Grass," "Iron," and other pessimistic works by Sandburg. This volume takes that pessimism and puts it into a much more realistic context, dealing with World War I, the Great Depression, and an era of American History to which few of us today can relate. Sandburg's poetry is virtually prose in sections, reading very fluidly. It is fascinating to watch his evolution as a writer and as a man throughout the poems he wrote. I rarely sit and just read poetry, but I recommend this volume to my students--and to anyone else reading/listening--for a couple of hours when a novel just doesn't seem right. Some of it is dark, depressing, and mildly disturbing, but he sheds a ray of light often enough to keep one reading. There's something in Sandburg's work for everyone!

Great compilation of great poetry
I started looking into Sandburg for a school project, but then i was hooked. I had to take this book from the library countless times, because i couldnt get enough of it. You are able to see many sides of Sandbug, and are able to get a hold of what his views are. Overall, it is on of the best books of poetry by any author. Those from the Midwest can really appreciate his descriptions of the region.

Biased opinion, but still worthy
I had a dream when I was younger to be a Lawyer practicing Corporate Law or IT-based law. That dream never came true because now I'm an IT manager, but the fire was stoked when I picked up this book to review for one of my Masters courses. The book give you a clear understanding of legal terms, the trend with a focus on Internet Law, and how businesses will need to prepare themselves for the future precidence setting rulings to come. You don't have to be a legal geek to appreciate this work. Even outside of my scholastic requirement for getting this book I think I would have enjoyed it on it's own. It has indeed sparked a desire to search for more books on the subject.

Real advice for real life issues
This 12 chapter book is intended as a college text for business majors. However, it also deserves a place on the working professional's bookshelf, and is suited to both business and IT professionals.

Highlights: It's an up-to-date text that addresses the full range of topics from the contemporary legal environment defined and changed by the internet, to business agreements. The chapters on contract law, privacy and liability are essential reading for anyone involved in e-commerce, either as a business process owner or as an IT professional who is responsible for online content.

The first seven chapters are my favorite because they covered information that is of particular interest to business and IT professionals. Chapter 1 covers the legal landscape of e-commerce issues, then segues into three chapters on contract law, present and future issues of contract law that are specific to e-commerce, and contracting and licensing software. These chapters realistically address real issues and challenges. These chapters build the foundation for the next chapters that cover torts in general, and cyber torts in particular, and liability issues (often overlooked, but a all-too-real exposure).

Chapters 8 through 10 cover intellectual property in great detail. This topic is an inescapable reality of doing business over the internet, and is one in which the legal issues are still evolving. I recommend that anyone who focuses on this aspect of law also read Bill Zoellick's excellent book, CyberRegs: A Business Guide to Web Property, Privacy, and Patents. Chapter 11 is a brief examination of business organization that can be glossed over, but the final chapter, 12, on cyber companies and internet agreements is an essential chapter that is filled with invaluable facts and advice.

Don't let the fact that this is a college text deter you from purchasing this book. It is an excellent deskside reference that will guide you through real life issues.

Don't Give a Person Who Can't Dance a Stethoscope
"All stories speak to each of us. Understanding this connection is crucial if we're to be able to live together and to live with ourselves. We must learn to feel how other people connect to one another and to the universe." (Preface)

After completing his internship, Hammerschlag joined the Indian Health Service and began a personal and professional journey in the Southwest. Although he thought he was bringing his healing skills to impoverished people who would be grateful for his gifts, he had no conscious clue that he had chosen a place for his own healing.

Weaving together stories of the brutal destruction of Native American culture by the "White Man" with vignettes and reflections, Hammerschlag suggests a paradigm that goes beyond Western medicine, pronouncing that true healing is impossible without a connection to community, to spirit, and to the land. He compares the work of his mentors, Milton Erickson and Eric Fromm, with Native American healing and spiritual traditions. His journey led him to discover that the keys to healing are to be found, not in some magical external repository, but within the patient her/himself:

"Patients are the principal agents in their lives, and as much as they want to be well, they want peace and understanding." (p. 137)

"All of us have the keys to our own enlightenment. The therapist uses whatever symbols mean something to that patient. Patients already have the answers to their questions. As the therapist listens to the problem, the patient will also tell the solution." (p. 140)

An excellent book, full of powerful stories and brilliant reflections. A must read for anybody interested in personal growth, in helping others, or in the healing process. Details about the abuse of Native Americans may prompt even the most detached narcissists into caring action.

Brilliant, must read.
Dr. Hammerschlag weaves his journey of healing with insightful stories and personal anecdotes. This book shares his experiences he had working in medicine and psychiatry among Native Americans of the Southwest. It is a description of his growth as a healer. "Dancing Healers" encourages everyone to look at anything and everything that can promote better health in ourselves. The examples of healing ceremonies and rituals, promote a holistic approach to medicine. It is not meant to replace "Western Medicine" but to be used in conjunction with it to achieve complete healing. "Dancing Healers" above all else offers hope. The reader walks away from the book with a renewed or altered sense of spirituality. I found Dr. Hammerschlag's storytelling compelling. Once started, it is impossible to put down. It was so riveting, I read the entire book in one night. ALSO RECOMMENDED: Dr. Hammerschlag's "The Theft of the Spirit"

Stunning
This book really captures the artistic beauty of guitars.

Dangerous Curves: The Art of the Guitar
As a professional builder, collector, and lover of guitars, I have spent all of my adult life collecting virtually every book on the subject of guitars that has ever been published. I must say that at this point in my life I never expected to find another book on this subject that would excite me, but I was wrong. "Dangerous Curves, The Art of Guitar", by Darcy Kuronen, and Lenny Kaye is a sumptuous volume that is thoughtfully designed not only to educate, but to delight the eye. Richly illustrated with crisp, vivid photographs by Carl Tremblay, this book documents a very significant selection of many of the worlds historically important, rarest, finest, and unusual guitars ever made. The guitars' role as art object is usually ignored, but the point is beautifully illustrated here via the authors' insightful selection of such innovative, trendsetting instruments such as the Steinberger, Millenium guitar, and the Fly! I applaud the authors' for including many instruments by living makers, whose incredible works are often overlooked. The best part of this tome, may be the fact that it is a catalog for an incredible, and long overdue exhibit at the Museum of Fine Arts, in Boston. Even if you've seen them all, this book is a "must have" for your collection.Highly recommended.

Well written
Well written and intense story of a true hero. Theo Tschuy spent numerous years and traveled behind the iron curtain to conduct research for this book. He met Carl Lutz personally and considered Mr. Lutz's story too tremendous to not write about

The book flows easily and is a must for history buffs everywhere. Thanks, Uncle Theo!

A diplomats reaction to the pressure of saving lives.
This book represents a very thorough research into the exact details of a rescue operation. As we have been fed countless stories with vastly inflated numbers, this book is a breath of fresh air. The author utilizes his research of archives held by the Swiss government and never before available. The story unfolds of the efforts made by Carl Lutz in saving lives in what is possibly the largest rescue operation of World War II. Without embellishing the heroics of Consul Lutz we are given the details of this story in a very readable fashion. This book authenticates the real number of survivors in Budapest, Hungary based upon the known number found following the war. Prior to this we have been given arbitrary numbers that always total more than the actual number of survivors. This book is a breath of fresh air for the serious reader of Holocaust activities This leaves the reader feeling that indeed there are good people in this world, and that Carl Lutz was one of them. I strongly recommend anyone interested in Holocaust or humanistic stories to read this book.
