The books will teach you how to build up your chops. Starts off with basic chromatic exercises and goes on to sweep picking, tapping and various other coveted shreddign techniques. I would highly recommend it for someone who is a fairly adept guitarist who wants to take his playing to the next level.
I've also had the opportunity to take lessons with Carl and believe me, this book couldn't have been written by a more accomplished guitarist. Imagine Van halen and Malmsteen rolled into one and you start to get the picture..
Carl is also a professional transcriber and has done tons of authorised guitar transcriptions for Hal Leonard, Warner Bros. and Cherry Lane.
Well done Carl on writing the perfect solo'ists guide and thanks for all your help.
Cheers.
And I have not yet to go though all the exercises at a high tempo.
Also the CD helps a lot for people that can not grasp rhythm concepts. He demonstrates every example. I did take some lessons from Carl a few years ago at AIM [Atlanta Institute Of Atlanta] and he never got into this much detail about building this type of Technique.
To me this is a great book and well worth it.
Congrats Carl, On such a cool book, Can I get a hard back copy :-)
I still owe you a few drinks from the Malmsteen show. Thanks for everything. SeeYa

Without giving too much away, this includes a horrible head-on collision that shattered medical doctor Carl Wieland's body, as well as the Ham families' recent experience with the untimely loss of his brother due to a degenerative brain disease. My wife was able to relate to the experience of the first, having been broad-sided by a driver running a red light and having suffered permanent back injuries as a result. This is not fluff Christianity, and if it does seem stilted at times in the latter half, it is only because the authors have been talking the right talk for so long they've got it down pat, which is not a bad thing.
and staunchly Biblically based, "Walking Though Shadows" helped me to assemble many fractured
thoughts in my own experiences. In August of 2000 my father went home to be with the Lord after 6 weeks
in a coma following surgery. Thirteen months later our newborn baby boy followed him into glory. They
lay beside each other now awaiting resurrection. Many of the thoughts in this book had begun to formulate
in my mind, as I stated earlier, though intense study of the Word. Thank you Ken and Carl for your Biblical
presentation. It is so very important that we know the Bible teaching that we live in a cursed world in
corruptible bodies, and that we should not be swept away by any wind of false doctrine. But praise be to
the Lord, one day corruption will change to incorruption and mortal to immortality. And then the
culmination of all the promises of Christ. This book is a must read, especially if you are ensconced in the
belief of "faith healing", i.e., that lack of healing = lack of faith. This is not to say that God does not heal
today. He most certainly does, as is demonstrated in "Walking Though Shadows". May the comfort of the
Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.

It is not a short read for a 5 year-old, but it held his attention again and again. It is one of his favorites.
I bought this book because I love the illustrations of Ms. Hyman. We have read "Bearskin" by Howard Pyle, "Little Red Ridinghood", and "The Fortune Teller", all illustrated by Ms. Hyman. Her colors are vibrant and exciting. It seems that every book Ms. Hyman is involved with includes a great story and a great story teller.
"The Water of Life" has it all, love, tests and trials, devotion, greed, and betrayal. It gives us, mother and son, lots to talk about. I recommend this book heartily.

For instance, Carl shows how a deficient ecclesiology (theology of the church) and a misunderstanding of the Israel-Church relationship reverberate throughout the theology of premillenial dispensationalism, with eschatology (theology of the end times) being greatly effected.
This book helped me to better understand not only why some Christians believe in the rapture, but also why they separate themselves so strongly from the world, instead of seeking to transform it (Chuck Colson is an excellent example of the latter).
Truly a great, great book, well worth a place on your bookshelf.
What Carl Olson has provided is a thorough analysis through excellent scholarship. He shows how the whole world-view of the rapture, while emotionally appealing to some, is a long way from the truth. Taking the emotion out of the equation allows exploration of all the ancillary assumptions that lead to the emotional buy-in to what is at best a questionable doctrine.
Along the way, the depth of theology explored here ultimately leads to a renewed faith in the true doctrines of the Church, a better understanding of our place in the Church, and the reality of the Church itself, the Church that Jesus personally established on Earth. What a wonderful gift that is!

Editing a thinker like Jung is no small task. Like a sculpture, Hoffman's editing brilliance is revealed in his astute knowledge of cutting away the unnecessary material leaving us only with the beautiful form and substance of the work. He has managed to dish up to the reader the wonderful beauty of Jung's truly impressive and liberating wisdom.
This is the best introduction to the work of Carl Jung that has ever been written. An awesome collection of psychological insight, well ordered and easy to read. I give this book my highest reccomendation. It is destined to become a classic.
Teams are the only way to address our increasingly interrelated and complex problems. In practice teamwork is rare and the reason may be that many managers advance due to their political ability. I doubt that upper managers will ever be able to truly give up the skills that brought them there.
