Brilliant!![.]
This book is great and a must have for anyone with cancer or anyone wanting to help prevent cancer. It's easy to read and follow with plans that we can fit into our everyday life. The author is absolutetly brilliant and I want to thank her for writing a book like this that can help so many people.

Challenging cancer one step at a time
"Challenge Cancer and Win" is an invaluable book for anyone going through cancer treatment. The book is loaded with information about what foods do, how vitamins and supplements work, sample diets, and nutrition plans for specific cancers. A diagnosis of cancer left us feeling "out of control", but this book, written in a clear, easy to understand way has helped us to regain some control both during and after our treatment period.
We really appreciate the positive, well-balanced approach Kim uses which allows the reader to choose "good", "better", or "best" as the steps to take while making practical nutritional and lifestyle changes. We were eating "good", but now we are eating "better" and feeling better as well. There are hints and recommendations for healthier eating, advice on handling side affects of treatment, details about the foods which support and build the body during chemotherapy, helpful charts and even recipes
Our clinic has a copy of "Challenge Cancer" so others who are facing a diagnosis of cancer and treatment can reap the benefits of Kim's years of experience helping cancer patients. Having this book was almost like having a private "coach" to help us through our cancer treatment. We highly recommend "Challenge Cancer and Win" to anyone who wants a better understanding of how nutrition can affect cancer and who wish to become more pro-active in challenging their disease.

A must have for dietitians who see cancer patients!
"Challenge Cancer and Win! Step-By-Step Nutrition Action Plans for Your Specific Cancer" is a must have! Being a dietitian who consults with cancer patients on a regular basis I have found this book to be invaluable. It provides in depth, evidenced based nutrition recommendations for various types of cancer. As someone who has spent time researching to put all the pieces together to devise useful cancer nutrition plans I am so glad to have stumbled upon this book which had done just that! Better yet, the information is presented in a reader friendly manner.

need more like it
This is a great book. It is easy to understand and use. We need more guides like this.

good resource
I was taught that fear appeals didn't work but we used them anyways in our state health department work. This book explains what we instinctively knew -- that fear appeals work and they work well given the right conditions. I like the theory in the book and the worksheets.

Practical and Reader Friendly
This book contains much valuable information for understanding risks and understanding how to get others to understand their risks. I am very pleased with the practicality of the theory behind the book and have found it useful in my crisis communication work.

A rare glimpse into E-hill houses
The backdrop for this book is actually an area called Emerald Hill in Singapore. It is an old street of pre-war "shophouses" which are common place in Asia. Chinese merchants use to live upstairs and anve their shops downstairs.

Singapore has done a terrific job in preserving a number of these houses and Emerald Hill is one of the prime districts in central Singapore (off Orchard Road), where a stroll here has a different feel from the bustle of Orchard Road. A must see for tourists interested in this sort of architencture.

Many proud home owners have done up these homes in a variety of way, preserving the old and upgrading it to be livable today. In the old days, these buildings commonly had only one bathroom way at the end of the house. These homes are also characterised by an "airwell" where natural light and air is allowed to flow into the houses. The houses were built with a small front door (I heard that taxes used to be based off how big your front entrance is - a leagacy from the Dutch?) and stretched out long towards the back. One of the homes has a long swimming pool built in!

In Lisa's book, she has taken this unique neighbourhood and the tastes of and lifestyles of the residents on Emerald Hill, combined with her flair for entertaining "made easy", has made this a wonderful book to get ideas.

Entertaining Asian Style
This book is one of my all-time favorites; both as a source of reference and "can't go wrong" gift to friends visiting Malaysia & Singapore. What do I like about the book? Firstly, I find the bright, rich colors of the tropics very stimulating and enticing. Secondly, the book covers the multi-cultural/ethnic communities at an adequate level of detail. Thirdly, the recipes are easy to follow and I can validate that these recipes truly reflect the special qualities of each of the cultures presented.

An excellent coffee table book, great gift and a great source of inspiration for those who are curious about Southest Asia.

Delightfully creative
The words are descriptively written to bring alive the beautiful photographs that abound within the pages of the book. I thoroughly enjoyed learning more about entertaining and creating an Asian flair to parties bringing so many great ideas into my home. All my friends have commented about all the ideas I re-created from the book. I found everything very doable and easily re-created. One of the best entertaining books I have read.

the Living Word
Although it has been years since reading the book, several impressions still remain.

One was the way scripture constantly came out in Esther Ahn's life. It was very real. Some readers, in their reading of fiction, may seek adventure and plot--this book has it in its recounting of imprisonment and persecution of a Christian in Korea--but seeing how the Word comes to her mind all the time, seeing how her life was built on this, is what made me love the book.

And the thing that hit me the most was: when I finished reading the book, I felt strongly: I WANT TO MEET HER MOTHER! Her mother wasn't one of the main characters in the book, but it was the mother who instilled in Esther Ahn her unshakable confidence in the Word and lifestyle of constant reference to it.

"I have never seen anything like this before," the senior officer, who was a Korean, said. "The daughter is great. The mother is greater."

What A Mighty God We Serve !
What a well written an awesome testimony of God Almighty. As on e reads this biographical collection one can clearly see the Hand of God in this faithful woman's life. We,in this current age, especially in the USA, can not really imagine what it means to stand for one's faith and be persecuted for it. After reading this account one can truly see that our God is the 'God of the Impossible' and His ways are so above ours. What an encouraging book. I can't wait to meet Esther Kim at heaven's gate!

Faith and forgiveness in action
In the face of the most brutal treatment and systematic persecution by her Japanese captors during WWII, Esther Kim puts into action the love of God that overcomes anguish, fear and incomprehensible evil. This is one of the most moving books I've ever read and was instrumental in my own personal search for a God who is real and who makes a difference.

A Powerful Sory of a Powerful People
In the Time of the Drums is an excellent story of the Gullah heritage. It tells of a people who have not forgotten. Young Mentu is told of a time by his grandmother Twi, when he will be "strong-strong." Twi, a wise, respected elder of the community, leads her people home. Mentu is "strong-strong" as he passes the heart-felt beats, and stories that can't be forgotten to descendents, and to us.

definitely a book to keep and to give away as a true "gift"
Siegelson has a mastery of words that is incredible. The rhythm of the words becomes immediately apparent as you read and it is definitely something you'll want to share right away. Brian Pinkey does a wonderful job, as usual, and the lines of his drawings echo the rhythm and lyricism of the story. I think it is interesting and appropriate to the story (you'll understand after you read it) that althought the story is based in historical fact, it is not limited by it. If you are an african-american parent, buy this book. If you are not an african-american parent, buy this book. I will be watching for the next by Kim Siegelson. Signed, a Children's Librarian in Oklahoma.

Rich and meaningful
This book is rich in illustration and in story. The book resonates like a powerful drum beat. The author tells a tale that seems passed from generation to generation. This is a great read for Black History Month. This is a book you will read again and again to your children. The suggested age for readers of 4 to 8 is really too limiting. Children of all ages will enjoy and be moved by this book.

I'll be a pro at composting by the end of the season
This is a great, clear cut, interesting and fun-to-read book! Stu Campbell is able to take what, to newcomers, can be a daunting task and not only present us with the basics to feel comfortable but he also translates some of the scientific "mumbo-jumbo" of how and why compost works into layman's terms. He includes real "recipes" and approaches to try as well as suppling a list (though not nearly complete) of good materials to compost as well as what NOT to use. A short "troubleshooting" chapter called "Things You Might Worry About a Little" is a bit over the top for beginners but is part of what makes this book valuable for the seasoned composter. Let It Rot! is a not-to-technical, well-written, easy-to-read guide that takes the "yuck" out of your composting ideas! Perfect for beginners and a great refresher for near professional composters.

It's An Artform
There's more to composting than just sticking a bunch of dead things in a pile and waiting for it to rot - although that will work. It can be a virtual art form, and this book proves it. From building a compost container to adding the ingredients, this book leaves out nothing. Handy tips on speeding up the decomposition, encouraging worms, creating leaf-mold, using it once you've made it. You'll never look at an apple core quite the same way again. In this day and age with the emphasis placed heavily on recycling, this book provides heaps of how-to's in getting the most out of your waste.

many years
This book has been available for so long that it really should be considered a classic. It's great for beginners and helpful to anyone interested in techniques for composting.

Great Outdoor Adventure Reading!!!
I first read this book when I was in 5th Grade. I have always been interested in the Outdoors. This book guides us through an extraordinary adventure with a boy, his older friend, their dogs and a mean old Mountain Lion which they all hunt. It's filled with suspense, and will keep anyone glued to the book. Excellent Read! You'll most likely have to check it out at the library. It's tough to find!

Untitled
I really love the Chic Simple books ... I find the photographs, text and lay out to be really inspirational and compelling on a daily basis i.e. we all have to get dressed each day, and these books (especially "What Should I Wear?" - my real favourite) have made it more fun for me to wear, and buy, my clothes and accessories. There is one matter about this new book which has disappointed me in only a small way, and that is that the authors have chosen to use certain photos and text from older books in this, their new book. I dislike paying for the same content twice. I also had very high hopes for this new book, the first new 'big' fashion/wardbrobe-planning book by these authors for some years now, and was a bit cheesed off to find the same images/text, apparently recycled. It's just a small thing, but it seems to me to be a little lazy on their part. That said, I'm still a fan of the book, and wish I'd had it years ago when I started my first job (I wear suits for work & this book really focuses on that look and how to 'polish' it or expand upon it). This would be a great book for a recent graduate, or for the library of a corporate employer looking for a simple yet thorough and elegant style guide for their staff.

Fabulous!
This book does an excellent job of getting you from nothing to wear to a closet of every possible wardrobe nessessity for the office. The organization is fantastic, going from one interview outfit and then starting a collection of business appropriate clothing based on four suits. Great book for someone getting a promotion, returning to work after a leave of absense, or a new college graduate.

Love the book
Although I do not work in a field that requires suits---I couldn't pass this book up. There may be a time I need to know how to dress for a business lunch, etc. The point is this book is a must have for all woman entering the work arena again or for young woman just getting out of college. The pictures are wonderful and the advice is perfect as in the other Chic books. I love this book..........

Hot! Hot! Hot!
Hats off to Kim Loise!!! I think this is her best book yet. I was not too impressed by A Touch Away, but this one more than makes up for it. I loved how Sabin was not the damsel in distress, desperate for a man to rescue her. Instead Kim "flips the script" on the average female heroine stereotype. Sabin is strong, fierce, and independent yet somewhat vulnerable. I loved the storyline. It was full of suspense and intrigue, the passion was intense and will leave you breathless. Great ending, but I wish it were a little more involved. It was an overall great read! Worth every penny!

FALLING FOR YOU
KIM HAS DONE IT AGAIN, THIS BOOK HAS IT ALL MYSTERY, SEX AND FAMILY SECERTS. IS A WONDERFUL STORY OF LOVE AND PASSION. THIS IS A MUST READ. ONCE YOU PICK IT UP, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PUT IT DOWN. YOU WILL FALL FOR MONTGOMERY AND SABIN. JUST AS I DID,. MY HAT IS OFF TO MS KIM LOUISE!!!!!!!

What A Book!!
Kim Louise has made it to my favorite author list. Her latest book has you burning the night light because you just can't put the book down. Sabin Strong has been hired to protect Montgomery Claiborne from someone who wants his life. In the search of her birth parents she needs this job for the money. But what she was not expecting was losing control of her heart. She falls head over hills in love with Montgomery.

Montgomery knows that someone is trying to kill him and on his first meeting with Sabin he thinks that she may be the one. His thoughts changes when Sabin is there to save his life more than once. It was nice to see how Sabin and Montgomery's relationship blossoms. And they not only begin to trust each other but fall deep in love.

I don't want to say to much because you have to read this fast and easy read. You will love how the secondary characters also keep the pages turning. I think that Kim should continue the story of Montgomery's sister Cherlyn and Lucien. It will be an interesting story.

If you haven't picked up this book, I urge you to run to the nearest bookstore. You will not be disappointed.

Napoleonic complex on a national level
Ever wonder why North Korea is such a ... arrogant little country? This book will tell you exactly why. Guerrilla leaders scarred by years of eating rats, living in the hills, and butchering Japanese invaders do not necessarily possess the skills needed to run a country! This book is a must for anybody interested in the current standoff between America and Pyongyang, which North Korea seems to believe will end with the Korean peninsula being devoured by a sea of fire. Kim Il Sung's early days as a revolutionary and guerrilla fighter are given much attention, as are the purges he carried out in order to become the supreme leader. If you're looking for a play-by-play account of the Korean War, look elsewhere though- this book sweeps quickly through that period. The author focuses primarily on Kim's tight-rope act between the Soviet Union (which gave him the job in the first place), China (which saved his butt from the American-led U.N. forces), and the U.S. (which has refrained from crushing lil' Kim's summer camp of starvation in the name of East Asian harmony). Other topics addressed by the author include: Kim's frustration at not being acknowledged as the Emperor of the Third World, Kim's frustration at not being able to feed his population while spending 99.99% of his country's slight earnings on military hardware, Kim's frustration that the rest of the world didn't care much about the Korean problem (until now, of course), and Kim's frustration at not receiving a THIRD honorary degree from some university in Africa or Southeast Asia (naw, just kidding...but you get the point). The only complaint I have is this: the avalanche of names and details that sometimes disrupts the narrative. Perhaps a little too scholarly for anybody not specifically interested in the history of the North Korean Communist Party from 1946-1980's. Still, if you can get past this, the book is rewarding, and one will walk away knowing who Kim Il Sung was, how his son maneuvered into power, and why North Korea is a country with a Napoleonic complex.

Good for explainig North KOrea and understanding it.
This is essential for understanding North Korea and how it relates to the world of today. To undestand North Korea you must understand it's founder Kim Il Sung. The book goes on to show how he created a Stalinist State and huge army to insure it's survival. It talks about the many attempts on the lives of south korean presidents and his unpredictable nature that he passed on to his son and successor. Understandin Kin Il Sung will help the reader understand why Noth Korea is today run more like a cult than a country and why it is the most secretive country in the world today and a failed society.

Very helpful book if visiting North Korea
In 2001 I visited North Korea and found this book very helpful because our guides would only give us the official version of their history. The book is packed full of information and the only one I have found that explains how Kim Il Sung gained and kept power. Dae-Sook Sue has put a great deal of reseach into the book and let's hope he writes another book on North Korea covering Kim Jong Il present reign and the future of the country. There is no other county like North Korea so I recommend reading the book then visiting the country.
