life-changing book
In this book, Kim Chernin speaks to mothers and daughters who are trying to connect or reconnect to each other. She tells the stories of many mothers and daughters, including the story of her own relationship with her mother and with her daughter. The concept of giving birth to your mother is one in which a daughter can go through feelings of anger, disappointment, and whatever other feelings she might have toward her mother, take these feelings, and then try to give birth to her own mother, possibly through therapy, through self-care, or something else. I have recommended this book to many clients who struggle with their relationship with their mothers; it is a refreshing, poignant, honest, and enjoyable read.

very eye-opening
i loved what chernin had to say about the importance of telling your mother-story over and over until you reach a place of understanding with your idea of your mother as a person. i feel like i am doing this now and this book was a wonderful guide - great stories by all the women.

important for every woman who is a daughter and/or a mother
Chernin describes a way to unravel the knot that binds mothers and their daughters. The first 46 pages are the guide...the rest are stories of women who collectively speak as Everywoman. Chernin's listening skills are apparent on every page, as is her warmth and empathy.

Inspired Female Prose
I had been looking for a collection of writings by female writers that could inspire and lift my spirits in these darker days. I was fortunate enough to receive "A Woman's Path" edited by Lucy McCauley, Amy G. Carlson and Jennifer Leo as a gift from a friend. What a little treasure.

With stories by Anne Lamott, Maya Angelou, Linda Ellerbee, and the editors I was struck by the purely sensitive and female perspective of these writings. I loved the sense of pilgrimage and journey and truly believe this could be that one book I keep in my backpack for those day long / week long / month long excursions I am lucky enough to take. It's travelers bible and will keep you company along your way.

Really beautiful and highly recommended!

An incredible collection of women's spiritual writing!
I was very impressed by the stories included here--Anne Lamott, Maya Angelou, Natalie Goldberg, Kim Chernin...etc. These are not dry stories about spirituality--but rather transformative tales about how these women writers are changed by their travel experiences. Very inspirational and illuminating-read this book.

An inspiring and exciting read...
While looking for information, inspiration (and even a little soothing) in the travel section of the bookstore a few days ago, I picked up this book. Taking you through the highs and lows of life and traveling, it is especially wonderful for anyone who is planning to do a bit of exploring on their own. The stories speak in many different voices from many different places, but all with one strangely similar and strong spirit. It has been so enjoyable that I after I finish this review, I'm going to buy another book in the series. A beautiful collection - buy it, read it, and travel!

Canadian living in the US...
I recently gave this book to my American friend at her baby shower.. Everyone loved it and wondered where they could buy one.. This book outlines all the great things about Canada (ie: H for Hockey)... Too funny! A simple book with beautiful bright colors and pictures...

Illustrations are gorgeous and depict Canada from A to Z
This book lists everything from A to Z that make up our wonderful country of Canada. From the artic to the zamboni, and everything in-between (from Peggy's Cove to Quebec, Calgary Stampede, to maple syrup) it's all listed right here.

Your child will love the gorgeous, bright color illustrations, which makes the book so lovely. A great early reading book to share with your child.

Highly Recommended
Annyeonghaseyo! For those learning Korean, I think this is one of the great books out there. It has an easy-to-use explanation of Korean phonology (sounds) with a chart in McCune-Reischauer (McR), IPA, Han'geul, and plain English approximations. McR Romanization IS used in the book, but only as a crutch alongside Han'geul for about the first half of the lessons. The lessons themselves start off with several brief dialogs and vocabulary lists. Charts and grammatical notes are there to make things more understandable. Maps and newspapers are also used as learning aids. Like Japanese, Korean verbs and some nouns change to reflect politeness.. In this book, you'll learn a variety of politeness forms and intimacy levels. Sample newspapers and articles are used to give an idea of Korean in "the real world." A small dictionary and the answer key can be found at the end. The authors did a good job in their previous book, Functional Korean, so you won't be disappointed with this!

Great independent study book.
This book, "Active Korean," is really good. I picked it up in Korea after buying a half dozen other Korean study books. This one is by far the best I have seen. The layout is great, the chapters provide plenty of reading comprehension and this book shines in the exercises that it provides. The only disappointments that I have about the book are the lack of cassettes for listening comprehension and the sometimes out-dated vocab. This book is truly good. My Korean teacher switched to this book after I showed it to her. You really can learn Korean with this book.

These babies really are cute!
Don't be fooled by some of the reviews for this book. These computer-generated babies REALLy are cute -- and not the least bit scary or offputting. My two-year-old daughter loves babies and loves this book.

A must have!
My 16 month old boy can't seem to put the book down. There must be something about the illustrations of the babies that make this book magical-- not to mention a good way to learn the alphabet. I would recommend this book!

This is a WONDERFUL book!
I was first drawn to this book because of the gorgeous cover, but I soon learned that the inside is as good as the outside. The author uses lush descriptions so you feel like you are in the book with the characters. When you read this book you will be transported to a magical island where the tropical trees are lush and green and the air is hot, wet, heavy, and full of exotic scents. The sun always beats down and the ocean is a vivid turquoise. The plot is certainly fresh with twists and turns and a wonderful ending! What characters will you meet? You'll just have to read it! I read this book for the first time several years ago, and I still love to read it, even though I am now 16.

This is my favourite book!
Even though I am 15 years old, this has to be my absolute favourite book. It is filled with great imagination and adventure. I recommend it to anyone who needs something happy and adventurous to read.

Traveling into the Future
For beginner astrology students, this book is a fantastic place to start learning the art of forecasting. Funny and informative at the same time. The book is geared more toward being a primer so it does not go into great detail in many areas, but it is effective in the areas that are covered. And the light-hearted approach improves its readability 110%.

Very entertaining
This book is very detailed, informative, and amusing at the same time...a great book if you're into astrology.

Excellent Sign Book for Little Beginners
We bought this book and its companion, "More Baby's First Signs" when my daughter was 8 months old. What I like about this book is that it's a board book, meant to withstand the abuse a small child can give it. The pages are easy to turn, the pictures are large and very cute and the signs are basic, "need to know" words like "more," "milk," and "bird." Also, diagrams on how to sign are easy to understand, which was important for me since I have no previous ASL experience. This book the perfect combination of a board book and a book to learn sign language. I think to expand on your child's sign vocabulary, you would need to buy additional books as these books have only 6-8 or so signs each -- but these are books are a good place to start, and your child can read them by themselves without ripping them to shreds!

A wonderful baby sign book just right for little kids!
My 14-month old daughter Sarah loves this book, and its companion "More Baby's First Signs". She reads them to herself, making the signs as she sees the picture on each page. She knows most of the signs in the books, and I think she really enjoys the chance to use all those signs as she reads.

I love the books too. The cute illustrations are very clear, showing exactly how to make the signs. Signing with Sarah has really paid off, even though she hears and speaks perfectly well for her age (which is to say, she hears everything and says monosyllables). At least half of what she says I understand only because she signs with it.

I highly recommend these books for anyone who's using sign with their babies or toddlers. (And if you're not -- yet -- check out the "Sign with Your Baby" kit by Joseph Garcia.)

Great Help In Preparing for Certification
Recently I was lucky enough to take sailing lessons, and really lucky to have had this book to study with for the certifactions tests. I am a novice sailor so I needed things explained to me every step of they way.

Although this was not the required book for my lessons,(we used Sailing Fundamentals/Gary Jobson), this was the one that helped spell everything out in clearer terms for me.. Sailing Fundamentals was also good in helping to prepare for the classes(see my review) and also has a bit more of the technical information you may need to know.

Basic Cruising though seems like it was written for a beginner like me, it carefully explained everything. The names of the parts, to getting ready, leaving the dock, and going out for your first sail. It also helped me to understand the points of sail(which direction the wind is hitting the sails), and other basic maneuvers which are important to know. This one in conjunction with Sailing Fundamentals AND the lessons helped me to pass my tests.

If you're just getting started Basic Cruising will be a tremendous help.

Feel the wind on your face.......Laurie

The Second Book Use for US Sailing Certification
I've taught sailing for 16 years and the US Sailing books are the best series of books I've had the pleasure to use.

This book is second of the US Sailing textbooks for the learning to sail and mastering keelboats, and is usually associated with a course of the same name. I strongly recommend the complete series, and the sailing program for any new sailor who wishes to learn to sail using time proven methods developed by experts.

The concept of US Sailing is to give you what you need to know at each stage of learning associated with your practical on-the-water experience.

Once you have mastered the basics of handling a keelboat, in the Basic Keelboat course, you progress with this book, Basic Cruising, into more advanced topics to refine the skills you have and learn new ones such as anchoring and an introductory to piloting.

By the time you complete this course and apply what you have learned on the water, you should be ready to take a small boat out on your own and successfully command a moderately experienced crew. The associated certification will allow you to present credentials that will allow you to charter small boats worldwide. Good luck and smooth sailing.

Golf requires you to think and Be the Ball makes you think about thinking. I loved reading the comments from playing pros such as such as Lee Trevino, Arnold Palmer, Greg Norman, Gary McCord and Nancy Lopez and teaching pros such as Butch Harmon, Wally Goodwin, Pat Gross and Stan Thirsk. It is a book that I keep going back to time and time again.

part reference/part fun
Almost everyone I love plays golf. My parents, my brothers and my husband. My children are learning. We have many golf books around our house, and this is the first one I have ever read cover to cover. It is filled with great tips and stories. I may even dust off the set of clubs I got 10 years ago and take another swing at it. My husband says this book has changed his life!
