Indeed,DON'T judge a book by its cover. Least, not this one!
I have enjoyed Karen Hawkin's style of writing in both ABDUCTION OF JULIA and A BELATED BRIDE so when I found out Kim Bennet was one of her pseudonym, naturally I was pique to read this one book under that name. However, I must admit, I was very hesistant at first cuz the front cover looked very silly to me. The guy looked weak and sheepish-not fetching for my kind of hero at all. I don't know exactly what made me change my mind but I am truly happy I ordered it in the end. This book provided me with a wonderful LAUGH all throughout my day off. After a long week of hectic work load, ONE LUCKY LORD is a perfect company for days off like today.

In addition to the Editorial Reviews and Kim Bennet's words herself... I'd like to add how much I enjoyed both Fia and Thomas. Their love story was convincing and heart warming to me because it took time to develop. All the secondary characters (& the comical animals) contributed a lot of spice to the story. Oh, the dashing, smooth talker Robert ~ I wish Karen Hawkin's would write a book just for him. I also love Duncan. A book just for him would also be an interesting read.

My gosh, truly, how many books have made you smile, chuckle, giggle and then laugh out loud all in just one chapter? For me, It's "NONE" till this one.... I have never read such an all-out-amusing book, yet manages to be romantically touchy at the same time. Julie Garwood also holds a lot of humor in her works. That is why she is my top favorite author. I have enjoyed and loved her style eversince I begun reading historical romance novels but so far, base on this one, Karen Hawkin's/Kim Bennet's ONE LUCKY LORD simply topped it all in HUMOR. A lot of unbelievably comical and laughable scenes! Can't wait to lend this book to my sister. Oh, Umm... perhaps I should just ask her to buy her own copy. Can't part with this one just yet :-)

Do yourself a great favor and read this book. Afterall, Laughter is indeed the best medicine.

A wonderful first from Kim Bennet
I think the grin started on page one and lasted until the very end. It's rare that I actually laugh out loud while reading, but I was chortling throughout. I'm in love with Lord Thomas, I want to be Fia and I want to read another book with Robert in it. This one is destined for the keeper shelf. I am eagerly awaiting the next book from Kim Bennet.

LAUGH OUT LOUD FUNNY!
If you enjoy chuckling as you read or smiling so much your cheeks hurt... run, don't walk to buy One Lucky Lord. The chemistry between Thomas and Fia not to mention the cast of characters (Thunder, Zeus and Lord Thomas and of course Robert, how can I forget Robert) that bring this book to life will make you wish Kim Bennet had a backlist a mile long! Thank you Kim for bringing some laughter into my day, that alone is worth any price!

Fatal Treasure: Greed and Death, Emeralds and Gold, and the Obsessive Search for the Legendary Ghost Galleon Atocha
Published in Digital by John Wiley & Sons, Inc. ()
Authors: Jedwin Smith and Kim Fisher
Amazon base price: $24.95
Average review score:

The Last Great Treasure Hunt
Jedwin Smith takes the reader on a whirlwind ride through the hurricane's eye of decades of Mel Fisher's treasures, triumphs and tragedies while searching for the elusive Spanish Galleon, Atocha. Smith, being one of the few journalists who actually kept coming back for more, was caught up in the search and after some personal introspection, proved to have what it takes to be an accepted member of the crew.

Mel Fisher was a 20th century adventurer who loved to explore the sea's tightly held secrets of the past and its many treasures. He was a man who would share his dream with anyone who would listen; those that did, would be offered the opportunity to experience that adventure first hand; if they accepted, they usually got much more than they could have ever imagined.

Although the title, "Fatal Treasure", reveals the worst tragedies Mel and his crew had to endure in the course of their 16-year odyssey, the book also deals in great detail with the mindset of those who would spend their lives probing the depths to make one man's dream their own obsession. As for Mel Fisher's explanation as to why he did what he did, he had a rather simple quip to his most complex vocation. His response would be- "for the fun, romance and adventure"; an attitude and spirit of mind that embraced life and all who knew him.

"Fatal Treasure" is really a story about an American hero who would not allow government interference, financial ruin or great personal tragedy sway him from what he believed was his right as an American citizen to pursue. This is the "gift" he bestowed on his crew, and became the real treasure to be found and understood. If there is an underlying theme to Smith's narrative, it would certainly be a lesson in civics about personal freedoms and how easy it would be for us to lose them, and if we do, "Fatal Treasure" just may become the story of this country's "Last Great Treasure Hunt." A Great Read! 5 stars

A Real Treasure Story
This is the first "real" treasure story I have read, and I loved it! I know the "Mel Fisher Story" right side up and upside down, but this story of the crew, their ordeal and the tenacity it took to stick with it for sixteen years is mesmerizing. I was surprised that I loved and hated some of the characters. The size of this book is perfect for a summer vacation read, especially if you're anywhere near the ocean! It makes me want to quit my job and move to Key West.

Adventure and Intrigue
Fatal Treasure took me on an adventure few people even know still exists - diving the ocean bottom for sunken treasure. Smith took me inside one of the last frontiers where gold and silver and emeralds still can be found. Through his own experience with the treasure hunt he spun the tale of the Mel Fisher family and their lifelong quest through three generations for the Atocha; a Spanish galleon that sunk off the Florida coast during a hurricane in 1622. In the search for sunken treasure, he kept me intrigued with all the colorful characters, the triumphs and tragedies and the unfailing belief that "Today is the Day". It gave me a lesson in history , a look inside the life of a treasure diver, and a refreshing view of Key West as seen from a bicycle. He makes me believe that I am really there and have touched the treasures of the Atocha. Thank you for such a wonderful journey.

Fantastic, user-friendly cookbook!
This is a marvelous book for people who love to cook with fresh ingredients. I've been looking for a cold fruit soup recipe using yogurt for years that's similar to one we've had in our favorite restaurant, and there it was! Try the Chilled Strawberry Yogurt Soup -- it was wonderful! Also helpful are the hints on what to serve with recipes and other uses for them.

An Outstanding Addition to the Kitchen
We returned from our trip to the States bearing this exciting, new cookbook. We love to cook and to read cookbooks, and have quite a collection. From several of them we return to use a handful of favorites each year. In this one, it reads like it will take a year to try all that sound so tempting. Shared the curried chutney spread on apple slices with friends to oohs and ahs! Our dinner of mushroom barley soup, peasant bread and batch of the fabulous brownies was a "winner"...as well as easy to prepare. Must now chose what to enjoy today. What a great gift for the holidays! Kudos to Hayday and Kim Rizk

Let nature inspire you.
The best thing about this cookbook is that the recipes are simple yet elegant. The fresher the ingredients, the better the turnout, of course. The book is divided by an introduction explaining the Hay Day story, breakfast or brunch items, appetizers, soups and breads, salads, main dish entrees, vegetable and grain dishes and desserts. One day this past summer, I made the green beans, tomatoes and pine nuts and I can't stop making them because they are so good. Our other favorites are the honey-mustard ham, BLT Pasta Salad, Peppered Tuna with Port and Pears and the Maryland Crabcakes (being from Baltimore, I can attest that these crabcakes are pretty authentic to what a crabcake is intended to be). The Belgian Chocolate Brownies are to die for. The recipes are not complicated and the ingredients are not hard to find. If you like to keep your cooking simple but still wonderful, give this cookbook a try. You won't regret it.

Wow!
I highly recommend this book to anyone planning a wedding. I used a wedding coordinator and I still used this book like crazy to help make so many choices and find the best LA vendors. It's really well organized and it seems like the vendors have been weeded through so you only have to look at the best.

The best wedding guide I've come across!
Help at last! This book saved me a lot of leg work. It is so well designed and easy to use- it made planning my destination wedding in Santa Barbara a snap! The vendors I found were professional and sophisticated. I couldn't have pulled off my wedding with out On Site! I'm keeping my copy handy- to use for planning other parties.

a must!
This book is a must! Planning a wedding can be so stressful and this book made it 50 times easier for me. The listings are complete and up to date. Everything was right at my fingertips. It took away the busy work and guess work and allowed me to focus on planning rather than researching. I don't know what I would have done without it.

Great Book , Great Authors
Taunton puts out great books with great authors, this book is no different. Great layout and information.
I can't add much to what was already stated in the earlier reviews except that Kim Carleton Graves was easy to contact through email. He responded quickly, professionally and was very informative.
In summary, buy the book you wont be disappointed.

Everything I Expected, and More!
I bought this book looking for a design I could use for a dining room table. What I found was not only a design that I loved, but clear step-by-step instructions, drawings, and great photographs. The section on table building basics which covers table size and clearance, wood movement, and torsion box construction was extremely informative.

Interesting and versatile designs
I am an amateur wood worker, recently retired to the mountains from the music business in Los Angeles, so I was looking for interesting projects. This book is perfect for challenging my skills and tweaking my learning curve. I am currently building the boat shaped pedestal table, but modifying it by making it smaller by 3/4 and taller by 9". It will be used as an altar in a contemporary worship service (in the round) for my former church in No. Hollywood CA.

The book's instructions and ideas are very easy to follow, my only problem has been refiguring the compound angles in the pedestal due to my modifications. The illustrations and layout diagrams are first rate. Thanks to the author Kim Graves for a most enjoyable read.

Well this book was ok.
This book is very interesting and you don't get bord reading the same thing over and over. You could read a lot of different stories. One of my favorite stories was about this girl that always got mad because her sister would always be able to go out with her friends. Then one day she got to go to an amusement park but she had to be back before 10:00pm. So they left the park at 10:30pm and they were scared that her dad would get mad at her so they were speeding in the freeway and the driver lost control of the car, so they got into a really bad car accident. Her head was cut open and she had to be hopitlized. for once her sister was glad they didn't let her go, but she was still very hurt because of what happend to her sister.

My Review
Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul: Letters is a collective book of responses to the first three novels of Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul. Each story is just as heart warming as the stories in the original book, but this time the stories are ones that occurred due to the previous books in the series. Each story delivers a heart felt lesson of an "oh well, I guess that my life isn't that bad after all, " or a "maybe I should change my life too". Many of the writers were going through times when they thought suicide was the best option or that there was no option at all, each writer then expressed their own reaction to the book and how their life was changed and put back on the right track. Within the contents of the book, I found some truly amazing and uplifting stories; one was about a girl suffering from the loss of her only sister and how each section of the book brought her to overcome her devastating reality. Another was about a girl who got copies of the book for the grieving students at Columbine. Each story was compelling, up lifting, and really let me see what living is all about.
On a scale from 1-10 I would give this book a 9, because of it's mysterious ways to make me feel better about my self or just put me in a better mood. One of the most important reasons to pick up this book is because it lets me know that no matter what I do I am not alone and that where ever I go, I can make a difference if I am compelled to help.

Dogs With Jobs
"Dogs With Jobs" is an entertaing and educational study in praise of man's best friend. It pays tribute to man's best friend and allows the reader to fully understand the complex abilities of our four legged friends. Although very detailed, it is written in easy to understand language and format. I recommend this to anyone who has a furry companion friend. On a personal note, I have a Newfoundland puppy, my third. Reading of the Newfoundland "Mas" jumping from a helicopter to save drowning swimmers brings special meanings to me while reading of the highly trained senses and abilities of these fine dogs. The work will interest all dog breed owners. A very good book.

Dogs with Jobs
Award-winning author Merrily Weisbord and her daughter, veterinarian Kim Kachanoff, have captured the drama, beauty, and sheer determination of working dogs from around the world. Including career dogs in SAR, arson detection, seizure alert, marine detection, and many more. Beautifully illustrated with lots of great colour and black and white photos, this book is an educational and uplifting addition to the working and sporting dog enthusiast's library.

A Vet's Opinion of Dogs with Jobs
Dogs with Jobs is fascinating reading. It is a well crafted accumulation of stories of the astounding abilities of working dogs and their owners. It also offers insights into behavioural origins of those abilities that any dog owner or admirer will find valuable. As I completed each story, I found myself simultaneously amazed at what I had just read and eagerly anticipating the next chapter.

The book as a whole reminded me of the essence and breadth of human-animal interactions. Veterinarians and animal behaviourists currently extol the human-animal bond. Hundreds of thousands of dollars are spent in researching the interactions between dogs and humans. Yet the focus of that effort centers mainly on the dog's role as companion and relationship surrogate in modern society. This role is important, as people become more isolated from one another and from the natural world in the fast-paced technological environment that we inhabit.

However, the bond Ms. Weisbord and Dr. Kachanoff describe is based on mutual respect and reliance that in many ways is a more authentic and complete depiction of the anicent link between people and dogs.

I look at my nine-month-old Labrador, Molly, and see the ability to find avalanche victims of rescue drowning swimmers. As I rise and head toward my running shoes, she senses my intent and eagerly goes for her leash. In a way it's a shame we are both relegated to modern suburbia. But it is somehow comforting to be reminded that she and perhaps by association, I am capable of much more. What I appreciate about Dogs with Jobs is that it helped not just to entertain me but to remind me of her capabilities and my own.

Keep it handy...you'll be referring back to this one often
MacPherson's book is packed full of great tips and advice for those of us just starting down the path of permission email marketing. And for the small conclave of experts who have lived the real-world highs and lows of this fast-evolving marketing medium, you'll find it a valuable, credible resource too. So whether you're an ad agency exec looking to WOW a client with your insight, a marketing manager implementing your own email program, or a small business owner searching for a practical guide, this is the book for you. It weaves in just the right amount of charts, tick-lists, best practices and case studies to make it a lively read. You'll find yourself referring back to this book often as you implement your own campaign.

Great book on e-mail marketing campaigns
Kim MacPherson's book on e-mail marketing is a really good read. This book, along with Seth Godin's Permission Marketing are quite similar and both are very easy to read. If you want to learn more about internet marketing I would highly encourage you to read Seth Godin's book Unleashing the IdeaVirus, which deals with viral marketing in businesses and might help create additional marketing opportunities from the e-mail marketing campaigns you learn to set up with Ms. MacPherson's book.

The book is packed with great tips and advice for those of us just starting down the path of permission email marketing. The case histories of good and bad practices alike provide strong insights on communications and etiquette. Most importantly, this book explains the terms of email marketing and, for someone more experienced, it helps you calculate costs and your ROI (return on investment) from the campaign.

All and all I would highly recommend this book as it is a practical guide for professional marketers and aspiring Internet Entrepreneurs. I've seen a lot of email marketing books, and this is the best how-to book. If you combined this book with the underpinnings you can get from reading Seth Godin's Permission Marketing you will have the subject matter down cold.

Practical guide for email marketing - excellent!
As a principal of a design firm who recently started offering email marketing to our clients I found this book invaluable. I have used it to educate our company and have recommended it to clients and at speaking engagements.

It is a really practical guide and makes it easy for anyone to put a permission-based email marketing campaign together. For the novice it explains the terms of email marketing, for someone more experienced, it helps you calculate costs and your ROI (return on investment). The case studies are informative too.
