Hula Kahiko (Images of Hawaii's Ancient Hula)
Published in Hardcover by Geckostufs (1997)
Author: Kim Taylor Reece
Amazon base price: $49.95

Average review score:

Beautiful, stunning photographs
Kim Taylor Reece is truly a master of the photographic form. Not just in capturing hula in it's glory, but in photography itself. Beautiful work, perfectly framed, perfectly composed photos. Dance photography is extremely rough stuff - trying to capture a time-, movement-, and space-based art into a static, two-dimensional medium is almost folly, but Kim has an amazing ability to capture the movement and depth of the movement in a way that few photographers can - you'll truly feel that the subjects are, in fact, moving, and that's what dance is all about. I loved going to his gallery on Oahu when I lived there, to poke around at the rather expensive (but worth it) photographs, to speak with Rocky (the beautiful and extremely welcoming woman in so many of these photos), and Kim (who is also extremely nice and more than willing to talk about his artwork). For those who cannot afford a couple hundred dollars per photograph, this book is your best option. It's solidly put together, nice thick serious paper, excellent reproduction of the photos, and it is a wonderful collection of Kim's different styles. The book is beautiful, and the photographs are beautiful. Of course, to truly experience Kim's photos, you must visit his gallery, or at least find a way to see the images in full-size: 8"x10" and greater, but this book does justice to the photography.

Kahiko Imagery
As a hula dancer, I appreciated this book of hula kahiko imagery. The art of learning the hula is really underestimated by most people. KTR's photographs captures the graceful movements of the kahiko. Not only that, KTR captures the essence and electricity of the dancing, that one moment when one suddenly feels the hairs on one's neck start to rise. This marvelous work portrays the beauty of kahiko dancing and it is a great treasure. I highly recommend this book to those who appreciate and love the hula and to those who are interested in looking at some quality hula images.

absolutely transfixing
This book changed my life. I have read dozens of novels and texts on eating disorders, but only this one granted a new understanding and awarenss. Along with 'Women Who Run with the Wolves', by Clarissa Pinkola Estes, 'The Hungry Self' stands as an intensely emotional and complex piece on women and identity.

This book is revelatory, personal, complex and crucial.
Kim Chernin has explored the dangerous and complex world of women's eating disorders with more intelligence and research than most, and this book does the most justice to the power of her ideas. It would be a disservice to her to sum up Chapters here -- suffice it to say that anyone who truly wants to understand this important issue with respect to its depth and power should step up to Chernin's level.

A MUST For The College Grad!!
"Cubicles" is absolutely awesome. I wish it had been out when I graduated from college. Now, I send a copy to every young college graduate I know who is entering the working world. This book is all about guidance and is hillarious to boot. The author has found the perfect "voice" to get her message across to young adult women and middle managers about ALL those things that no one ever told you about the workplace but you REALLY need to know. Kim Beamon's style is blunt, funny and best of all...useful. The companion book, "The Game", provides the same direction for men. There are TOO many people that I have worked with over the years who should have read these books, myself included!

The author may be your saving grace!
If your mother, grandmother, sister or best friend has never told you what to expect, while working in Corp. America, this author will!
The author of this book has certainly "been there and done that."
If you are a female and new to the workforce or are currently in the workforce but in need of some remedial training, then read this book! It could save you from embarrassment, frustration and humiliation and help you get back on course if you've derailed.

The author also written a book called "The Game," a book for Males entering Corp. America....so far, it's just as great as her
other book!

The author's knowledge and experience may be your saving grace!

Pocket and Reference Book
For us we have used it as a pocket and reference book in our facility.

Most imaging books on trauma are either written by the physicians for the physicians or the radiologists for the radiologists.

Fortunately, this book provides the best of both worlds. Easy to read and explanation provided that gives meaning to why we do this and that in our facilities.

Perhaps an update would include more radiographs or line drawings which would make reading easier.

All you ever need while on duty
This small book makes it easy to carry around while at work for quick references.

There are useful tables and best of all recommendations on the types of view (plain radiographs) that would be appropriate for each situation. In addition, highlighting the advantages of using a particular view.

There are overviews, on how to improve and reduce risk of missing abnormalities on films taken at the emergency department.

Overall, the book is divided into chapters that are sensible that makes referencing easy. I would recommend this book for physicians (especially trauma), nurses, technologists and interns/housemans.

In the Company of Angels

A stunning look at what we believe or think we believe.
Rarely have I read a book that compels one to re-think one's beliefs. ANGELS takes us on an exciting journey of searching and discovery. Whoever completes this journey will never be the same.

This novel is rich, entertaining and though provoking.
This book was entertaining in the best spirit of a Fredrick Forsythe novel as our two heroes search pre World War II Europe for some ancient texts. It was also a fascinating look at Europe of the middle ages through flashbacks. And finally it was a though provoking novel that made you think about the history of organized religion and the true teachings of Christ as compared to the dogma of today's church. I highly recommend this novel.

Easy to understand text explaining corporate culture.
I would recommend this book to anyone interested in understanding the culture and ethics that have lead to the numerous scandals the economy has been faced with as of late. If you are an investor or the board member of company, this text is worth reading. The investor benefits from a door being opened into companies that practice unethical financial practices and provides an investment warning. A board member, or anyone hiring an executive that has more interest in the long term viability of their company than the short term gains and rapid fallout associated with using accounting tricks to mislead the public will gain insight into the type of individual and practices that should be avoided at all cost. What these companies have done goes far beyond their employees and shareholders. It has shaken the whole economy.

The Best Book of This Kind
I think that every MBA student and practitioner should read this book not to repeat another accounting scandal and not to mess up our economy again.

Beautifully Kim book!!!
Anyone else out there who loves the infectious Disney show Kim Possible would really dig this cool book. It basicly contains two episodes of the show, Bueno Naco and Tick-tick-tick which are two of my personal favourites, Kim fights Shego in the end of each, it's so cool.

Every single page is beautifully rendered in full color and the printing is top notch. I think that the comic book style layout of the the story has a really fun feel about it and overall this book would be a charming addition to any KP fans collection.

Coolest book
this is a relly cool book I LOVE KIM POSSIBLE and this book is a cartoon of bueno nocho and tick-tick-tick (any magor KP fan will know what eps thouses are) but a must buy for any KP fan

Great UD stuff !!!
It is rare to find such a great devotion and perseverance towards city issues, urban design concepts and developments in one book. It is the compilation of years of partnership of work at KK Associates: a professional focus on strategies and plausible design scenarios for contemporary cities. A must in the library of seriously contextual architects and developers.
