Imaging of the Scrotum: Textbook and Atlas
Published in Hardcover by Raven Press (15 January, 1995)
Authors: Hedvig Hricak, Bernd Hamm, and Bohyun Kim
Amazon base price: $189.00
Average review score:

Topography taken to new highths!
Unquestionably one of the most profound topographic achievements of the 21st Century. What began as mere childhood fancy for Hedvig Hricak, has bloomed into the most supreme achievement of the modern Topographic sciences.

No longer can any man dispute the supremacy of mans ability to map. I was amazed at the pure accuracy of which Hricak's atlas was composed , several times I found myself discovering moles and freckles on my own Scrotum which I had not even been previously aware of. there is only one word which can truley describe this book " Spectacular ".

Imagining the Scrotum packs alot in!
Wow, as a major in Scrotal Dynamics I have seen all the literature out there on scrotums and this is the bomb! I thought I was an expert until I read Mr. Hricak's book, I mean never before have I actually seen the scrotum as not just a body part, but as a work of pure art. I cannot stroke Mr. Hricak's ego enough, this is a work of fantastic girth. The great songs he uses to help you remember in detail the dynamics of the scrotum operendi is worth the price alone. I spent hours inspecting my own scrotum just to see it in its new light. Wow! I also now see other Men's scrotums in a new angelic creamy way! Any book that can make me see the true beauty in a mans hairy erecto scroto juician is worht any ones hard earned money!

Wonderful and visually unmatched text!
Hricak's text is thorough, comprehensive and visually stunning. The 700 plus images contribute to an area of medicine that has been historically overlooked: the Scrotum. His use of cutting edge computer generated and digital imaging, accompanied by an austere yet revealing textual analysis make this text required reading for any medical professional or researcher working in the field of "Advanced Scrotal Dynamics". The asthetic merits of the word--scrotum--notwithstanding, the textbook and atlas is not limited to the subject of its title. It includes much needed material relating to the Cowpers Gland and Seminal Vesicle as well. Imaging of the Scrotum is a veritable feast for the eyes. Be swept up in the cutting edge academic field "Advanced Scrotal Dynamics". This is a must-read for anyone as fascinated with the field as I am!If so, then "Imaging of the Scrotum" is exactly your kind of bag!(no pun intended)

Interviewing for Solutions
Published in Paperback by Wadsworth Publishing (27 June, 2001)
Authors: Peter De Jong, Insoo Kim Berg, Peter de Jonge, and Peter De Jong
Amazon base price: $53.95
Average review score:

great introduction to SF
Nearly two years ago this book was my first acquaintance with the solution focused approach to helping people. I had heard from a collegue (who is also a management coach) about solution focused working and, although I thought it sounded promising, I remained a bit skeptical. However, from the very moment I started reading 'Interviewing for solutions' my attention was firmly captured. Two chapters later I was practically sold. The approach is very clearly explained and the many dialogues in the book are really excellent (especially those by Insoo Kim Berg). After reading this book I started reading and learning more and I began using solution focused working in my practise as a coach and consultant. With peasure and success.

The Basic Text for Solution-Focused Therapy
When I teach solution-focused therapy and students ask what's worth reading to supplement their learning, I tell them Interviewing for Solutions by De Jong and Berg is at the top of my list. I think of it as the basic text in solution-focused therapy--with clear explanations of all the interviewing techniques and chocked full of vivid case examples. This book has much that is useful for those new to this approach as well as the seasoned solution-focused therapist. Phillip Ziegler, co-author of Recreating Partnership: A Solution-Oriented, Collaborative Approach to Couples Therapy

Excellent resource!
This book is easy to read and it gives you the necessary basics to start working from a solution focused perspective. It contains many examples and case scenarios which help you to become solution focused. It is a must have reference for todays counselor!

Italian Pavements: Patterns in Space
Published in Hardcover by University of Chicago Press (Trd) (1998)
Author: Kim Williams
Amazon base price: $55.00
Average review score:

Ms. Williams gives the stone lovers among us a gift.
This stunning look into pavement design of the past 2000 years is brilliantly executed--from the detailed drawings to the in-depth analysis of mathematical principles and design principles/patterns, this book is a treat for my eyes and my mind. In working on my PhD in the stone and paving methods of Rome (and beyond), I've found Ms. Williams book fills a hole in academia left vacant for far too long. You love architecture/history/church building/math/ or design? You must have this gorgeous gift.

A book which beautifully answers some fundamental questions
Wonderfully conceived, researched and illustrated, this is a book which beautifully answers some of the fundamental questions as to the why and how of paving. When I walk through the majestic spaces mentioned in Ms. Williams book I will do so with my curious eyes glued to the ground for a change. Truly a fantastic book; a good read be it for the layman or as a much needed point of reference for the learnèd. The illustrations are almost as good as being there.

Amazing reproduction of outstanding marble pavements.
This is a must book for history students of the Roman and Tuscan buildings. Contains 58 outstanding drawings of examples of Italian art pavemennt and the text explains them in detail. All architects and designers need a copy.

Jesus - The Same: Yesterday, Today and Forever
Published in Paperback by Discipleship Publications International (1997)
Authors: Tom Jones, Kim Hanson, and Charles-Edward Jefferson
Amazon base price: $10.99
Average review score:

Revealing, inspiring, and challenging
"Jesus The Same" has opened my eyes to see more clearly the attributes of my Lord. Jefferson is able to poignantly paint a biblically-based "portrait" of the traits of Jesus Christ. During my reading of the book, I was inspired to deepen my love for God as I have come to be more impressed than ever of who Jesus really was.

An inspirational look into the character of Jesus Christ
Jesus the Same is an incredible study of the character of Jesus that challenges all Christians to imitate his example. Originally the chapters were individual sermons preached in the early 1900's and released under the title The Character of Jesus. However, the message never grows old. I plan on reading it again. It is filled with insight and references to Scripture. This is a must read for every disciple of Christ.

Excellent devotional companion
This book provides some unprecedented insight into the various characteristics found during the life of Jesus. This is significant to all christians because this is the one who we are ultimately trying to imitate. The author presents many common trials that many people face and describes how Jesus viewed the same type of situation. Many of these explanations can be very radical by presenting original conclusions, and are usually very inspiring as well. This book has had a deep impact on the way that I viewed Jesus as well as my own life.

Kim Jong Il on the Art of Opera: Talk to Creative Workers in the Field of Art and Literature September 4-6, 1974
Published in Paperback by University Press of the Pacific (2001)
Author: Kim Jong Il
Amazon base price: $25.00
Average review score:

The Florence Foster Jenkins of Marxist-Leninism
Proof (if any were needed) that high tessituras and hardline Stalinism can make for a fruitful cocktail. Comrade Kim Jong Il, the Dear Leader ™, is not only the rightfully crowned King of Socialism but also a formidable opera queen in his own right. The chapter "Charlotte Church: Crossover as the Dialectical Logic of Late Capitalism, or Just Some Cocky Welsh Teenybopper? " is worth the price of admission alone. The best work of its kind since Pol Pot's "Maria Callas: The Bel Canto Years".

The GREATEST Thinker in human history
I used to think that the greatest thinker of all time was Kim Il-Sung. But now I realize what a mistake that was. His son--Kim Jong-Il--is an even more extraordinary talent.

I have never encountered such a tremendous intellect. I read this book nine times so far and I still don't think I have even brushed the bottom of its profundity.

You should buy this masterpiece right now. If you don't have the money, FINANCE IT! Your life is hollow until you experience the dear leader's thought.

A Masterpiece of the Twentieth Century
It is a true blessing to be able to read and write for which I am eternally greatfull. One of the many perks of this ability is that it enables me to get in touch with novel ideas and great controversies. Reading this book by this great Korean leader and the best man of his country put me in true ecstacy. The depth of his work is so immense. Yet he is able to put the most complex problems of his country in so simple terms that one begins to wander if his career would be better off as a writer or a philosopher. How he explains the evolution of mankind, the importance of science and steel production is pure magic. I recommend that all young intellectuals as well as workers should carefully read this work. Forward to the triumph of socialism!

Managing New Product and Process Development: Text and Cases
Published in Hardcover by Free Press (1993)
Authors: Kim B. Clark and Steven C. Wheelwright
Amazon base price: $60.00
Average review score:

Excellent book
I have found this book an excellent starting point to understanding product development cycles, the values of planning, and effective project management. The best book I have read on the topic yet. I have bougt many books on this topic and none of them have covered the topic better.

Classic on new product development
Don't be turned away by the pub date--this is still the best book out there on the topic of new product development. The development framework that informs the structure of the book and their prescriptions is insightful and elegant. I have used the book for many years as a main text book for my 'management of technology' classes, to both engineering and business students, and most students love the book, especially those with real life experience. It's a great book to introduce engineering students to business/project management issues for the first time, and visa versa. The cases are also very well selected.

It is the perfect complement
of the book "Revolutionizing Product Development", same authors. The chapters are segmented according to the logic of the previous mentioned book. It is worth mention the chapters about the application of the "Aggregate Project Plan" and "Structuring the Development Funnel". These chapters tell us about the pitfalls and gave some useful proposition on how to solve it. The examples are OK. It could be a bit difficult to undestand how the process works without the previous reference cited before. There is also some "study questions" that suggests that this book is also for training people on Innovation. Very good idea indeed!

Mind in a Physical World: An Essay on the Mind-Body Problem and Mental Causation (Representation and Mind)
Published in Paperback by MIT Press (31 January, 2000)
Author: Jaegwon Kim
Amazon base price: $15.00
Average review score:

Let's get serious about the metaphysics of mind
This is a must for anyone who's in need of an adequate physicalist metaphysics for the mind. Kim's clarity invites even the not so technically trained young philosopher to consider the puzzles that arise when one is committed to an antireductionist stance on the nature of mentality. Aside from its excellent historical account of the mind-body problem since the Smart-Feigl central-state materialism, I think that the major contribution this book makes is precisely the confrontation of the possibility of us remaining antireductionists and still consistently claim that the mental is real, in the sense of its having autonomous causal potency.

If you believe, as many functionalists do, that mental properties (functional properties) could be understood as second-order properties defined in terms of the causal/nomic relations of its first-order realizers, please read this book!! You'll be surprised by how untidy the metaphysics of functionalism has been since its inception in the late sixties.

Kim once more has shown that his work is here to stay.

In my top ten philosophy books! Wow!
This book is great because after a great page you turn and get another, and another.... For the reader, an orgiastic feast of clear, insightful explanations of reductionism, the reigning non-reductive materialism, and dualism. Kim admittedly has no startlingly new theory which he hasn't expressed before, so the book is more of a textbook than a new thesis. But it simply overflows with illuminating presentations of the various aspects of the mind-body problem. And the argument that our only real choices are substance dualism and hardcore reductionism is excellent. Kim, no substance dualist, opts for reductionism. Non-reductive materialist functionalism, property dualism, anomalous monism - all these are either confusions or substance dualism in disguise. It gives us epiphenomenalist property dualists a kick in the rear. CORRECTION: I recently met Kim and asked him whether he was a reductionist, just to make sure. He said that people often misread him that way. Yes, he's saying there is a stark choice between dualism and reductionism, with no "non-reductive materialist" middle ground. But he's a dualist (actually, a property dualist, not a substance dualist).

Consciousness and Functional Reduction
Kim's proposal about reduction is persuasive. Since Nagelian Model of standard reduction collapsed, philosophers haven't dared to build up a new one. Now we have Kim's functional reduction.

But it is doubtable that his reduction can be applied to the case of consciousness. In his another book (Philosophy of Mind), he said that qualia problem is not captured by materialism and non-reductive materialism must meet the problem of downward causation or causal realism. Thus, he confessed that the two difficult problems are entangled: consciousness and mental causation.

This book can't solve that problem, but I'm expecting his next elaboration.

Anyway, in this book, he achieves new model of reduction through his original arguments! If his model is decisive, he has overcome the problem of functionalism vs. physicalism!

Overall, Kim's arguments are clear and easy to follow. But the debate about "generalization" (chapter 2 & 3) leaves a room for controversy.

The New Book of Wedding Etiquette: How to Combine the Best Traditions with Today's Flair

Wedding Planning For REAL People
FINALLY! A book that doesn't assume I work as a designer for Martha Stewart Weddings. It offers guidance to all with such wonderful common sense (which I've found all TOO uncommon in today's wedding guides!) This book does not tell the bride that she can do anything she wants becasue after all it's HER day. Ms. Shaw comes straight to the point and tells you the truth. Just like a best friend. Only this best friend knows exactly how to word the invitations and seat the groom's family. And this book is actually funny! The examples of faux pas are excellent reminders of just how ridiculous and childish people can get when it comes to weddings. This book will help you make your day special, AND help you expertly manage the delicate situations that will surely arise along the way. Above all, its humor will remind you that weddings are supposed to be fun. This is a great gift for a bride-to-be.

A great reference book for everyone involved in a wedding`
I am getting married in July and my sister is getting married in August. She is my maid of honor and I will be her matron of honor. She bought a lot of wedding ettiquette/planning books that we have both been consulting, and this is by far the best. The author has obviously been involved in planning many weddings, from the most elaborate to the most simple, and she offers great advice. A must-read for the bride who wants as many personal touches as possible, but also wants to know what's acceptable -- and what's not. A very funny read, as well!

Witty and Helpful Book
This wedding book is very well done. The best part of the book is the fact that it uses humor. In an age when weddings have become the focus of obsessive mothers and brides that are out of touch with reality, Shaw uses humor to foucs on keeping the wedding tasteful and nice. The book is full of tons of practical advice. The use of humor makes it very readable for grooms!

The New Carolingian Modelbook: Counted Embroidery Patterns from Before 1600
Published in Paperback by Outlaw Pr (1995)
Author: Kim Brody Salazar
Amazon base price: $24.95
Average review score:

One of the best reasources I have found
This by far is one of the best embroidery pattern books I have found in a long, long time. This books documents patterns for you, so you know exactly where they come from. A few patterns have been inspired by their older counterparts. The patterns are extremely well done, and are very clear so you know exactly what do so. Some books give character symbols that are confusing, this does not. They are large enough so you can photo copy them for your personal use. Most patterns are done with a single color so this book is for beginners. This book has one drawback, its limited availability. Scoop this one up by all means if it is available.

Not just for Historical Embroiderers
This is a super book for embroiderers. While I have a particular preference for using the patterns on costumes for historic recreation, I have found that many of the patterns are charming (i.e., the snails repeat border) and look lovely on "modern" projects, as well. It's also a good reference for those who would like to design a band sampler of their own.

Explore the past and chart future designs with this book.
Anyone with an interest in historical needlework should own this book. The patterns and stitching instructions are easy to use and the historical background is comprehensive.

The patterns are also a good starting place for those who wish to create their own designs.

Essential reading, gay or straight
Coming out of the closet is one of those things that makes one feel out in the open and sticking out like a sore thumb. You contemplate that you might be gay or bi, then finally realize that you are and come out of the closet. Right away, especially if you're anything like me, that's exactly what goes on. Surely, right off the bat, one will feel that they can't talk on the same level let alone relate to anyone. Out of curiosity, I bought this book, and read a bunch of the stories. Although not all of them are just about coming out of the closet, I could relate to a lot of the stories, and probably anyone that has ever come out and goes or has gone to college can relate to at least one of them. All in all, however, in order to get the most out of college, and an open minded perspective, I strongly recommend this collection to anyone just graduating high school and bound for college. Or, don't, and end up with everyone hating you, for you haven't outgrown the high school labeling mentality of calling every gay man a faggot.

Fascinating, Engaging, Helpful
The voices of the students come through eloquently in this engaging and fascinating book. The diversity of the GLBT experience on campus is evident. The book helps provide insight into the various experiences of GLBT students and helps readers see the experience as not at all monolithic. I recommend this excellent book.

Unbelievable!
As a straight college-age female, I was worried that I might not be able to identify and relate to the experiences of the writers. As I read, however, the authors made me realize that their stories are simply an account of their struggle to do what they feel is right--a process to which anyone can relate. I especially enjoyed the piece by the student from the University of Texas, Andrew Gray. His courage and determination are truly remarkable. Yay Andrew!
