A Wonderful Shock
I am very aware of my body and the state of my skin, paticuarly my facial skin. This book wonderfuly explains how to understand your skin better in a way that is easy to read. I just happend to pick it up in the "teenage" area of my local library while waiting for time to pass. I found the scriptures and comments on the side of each or every other page refreshing and uplifting, you could not find such truth or LIFE in Cosmopolitan Magazine. Kim Boyce has found a wonderful way in helping teens (and even adults) find a healthier way to look at yourself your skin and even your soul in her book "Beauty To Last A Life Time"!

Highly Recommended!
In a world overloaded with spin, the only way to cut through the bull is with the truth. So say the authors of Beyond Spin, which advises executives to allow their corporate communications staff to act as internal investigative journalists. The authors maintain that only by revealing the truth within your organization can you hope to guide the flow of information about and around your company in the digital era. Although many executives might find these concepts unworkable, we from getAbstract highly recommend this example-filled look for its fresh perspective on corporate communications.

Beyond Great!
Finally! A book that does not insult the "worker in the trenches"! "Beyond Spin" takes the unbelievable position that cubicle dwellers have known all along-the spin upper level management tries to put on its mistakes has never fooled anyone. Truthfulness in corporate communication shows respect and trust (thus fostering its continuance) between the corporation and its employees. Kudos to the authors for their integrity and excellent writing!

Big Blue Whale
Published in Library Binding by Bt Bound (1999)
Authors: Nicola Davies and Helen Kim
Amazon base price: $14.55
Average review score:

Perfect science and read-aloud book.
A wonderfully succinct overview of the blue whale and it's habits.

The clear, sweet prose makes delivery of the content easy, and the very fine, soft illustrations demand repeated veiwing. My Preschool and Kindergarten ESL students found it highly engaging.

If there's a better science and read-aloud book around I'd really like to know about it. TEN stars.

Follow this book up with the superb "Is a Blue Whale the Biggest Thing There Is?" by Robert E. Wells. Wells' book uses the whales' size as a starting point for exploring the size of the universe and other very big things (the second step involves putting a hundred blue whales in a really big jar). Read my review of Wells' book if you like.

ONE OF THE BEST WHALE BOOKS AVAILABLE!
I'm a whale researcher who has spent much of the last 12 years studying blue whales in the North Pacific. I'm also a mom who loves children's literature. Rarely do I see a book that is so accurate factually while it is captivating and magical! The illustrations are beautiful. I highly recommend it to anyone who has children who are facinated by whales.

memories of a day beside the sea
Do you remember those glorious summer days at the seaside? BLESS YOUR HEART will bring those memories right back.

Each new adventure glows with joie de vivre & blessings, & Kim Howard's richly textured, lively pictures enhance Holly Bea's charming couplets.

BLESS YOUR HEART is a book for all seasons - to be read at bedtime in summer to reflect on the precious day just lived, & read in the darkness of winter, to remember & look forward to the brightness of summer.

Holly's & Kim's earlier book GOOD NIGHT GOD will also enthuse you with that particular excitement children bring to our lives.

Fostering an Attitude of Gratitude
With another cheerful mix of words and images, Holly Bea and Kim Howard are teaching my kids enduring values...while my kids ENJOY it!! My 4 and 6 year old son and daughter both love this book--they relate to the children pictured, love the wonder-filled illustrations of a day at the beach, and were inspired to search their own surroundings and bodies for things to "bless." Discovering and blessing freckles is lots of fun. My daughter had memorized parts of the book after two readings, and wanted to talk about why we might even bless boo-boos. Thanks, Holly and Kim, for another winner!

Beautiful
I bought this book and loved the art work. Its very uplifting and the pictures are so soothing. My 4 yr old daughter has taken it over. She loves the beautiful pictures and even goes to bed with it.

A real treasure!
The artwork of Kim Jacobs is so lovely! It's like you can climb in any picture and just join in the fun. There is so much life in all her pics. The passages are little pick me ups that seem to fit each picture completly. I received my book and immediately ordered one for my sister so that she too could CELEBRATE TODAY! A must have for all Kim Jacobs fans!

A great book full of many emotions!
A great book about a thirteen year old named Cissy who lives with her mother Ma and her brother Jonas in the dirty thirties. This book has lots of drama. If you can't take a sad story this is not the book for you, If you can or you like grape NEHI's you will enjoy this fast read.

An inspiring novel about a girl during the Great Depression.
Thirteen-year-old Cissy Funk longs for a better life than the one she leads, with an abusive mother in Depression-era Colorado. But most of all, she longs to be free: free of the poverty and bleakness of the Dust Bowl and free of her mother. When her Aunt Vera takes Cissy away to live with her in Denver, she believes she has found her escape, and that she will finally see her absent father again. But her father is too busy with his job for Cissy to live with him, and Aunt Vera's life seems to be made up of a tangled web of secrets and lies. And Cissy discovers that while Aunt Vera may seem to be wealthy and glamorous, the life she leads is as dirt-poor as the one Cissy thought she had left behind for good. And Aunt Vera's biggest secret is the worst one of all - and it will tear Cissy's life apart in ways her mother's violence never could. This was an inspiring novel about a determined, hopeful girl struggling to rise above sorrow and poverty.

A Wonderful Reference Tool and Study Guide
This work has helped me immeasurably in my current research as well as past school work and research. From A to Z Kim and Sosa present literally hundreds of entries for the reader as well as great reference works to launch into further research. The only pitfall I can find to the book is the fact that it is built around an analytic philosophy (which comes forth in many of the entries). However, many of the continental philosophers and Medieval philosophers are covered. The authors include current trends in the realm of metaphysics and historical trends as well. This is a great starting point for the metaphysician. Moreover, it is a great reference tool that provides other avenues, via further reference, to ignite additional study.

Thorough and indispensible.
With 264 entries from A to Z written by some of the world's leading philosophers, this encyclopedic Companion from Blackwell is an indispensible aid to students of philosophy in or out of the classroom. If you plan to do any reading in metaphysics, an investment in this volume will be handsomely repaid.

It's hard to comment on specifics since the entries themselves are so widely varied, so let me just recommend a companion volume: Michael Loux's _Metaphysics: A Contemporary Introduction_. (And _The Oxford Companion to Philosophy_, edited by Ted Honderich, is another keeper.)

The Blackwell "Companion" series is very good in general. See also _A Companion to Epistemology_, which is highly recommended too.
