Charming Romance in a Delightful Setting!
For an interesting plot with twists and turns, for some minutes of sheer terror when a deranged man threatens, for moments of joy and tenderness, for sadness, and acceptance of grief, and for a happy ending, don't miss this charming romance in a setting of wilderness and desert beauty. The dialog is fast-paced and true-to-life. The relief moments when attention is directed to food and the details of preparation create mouth-watering experiences for the reader. Brianna is an excellent cook! She certainly knows the way to a man's heart! There is something for everyone in Brianna's Escape. Don't miss it!

More, please :-)
Being a guy who'd never considered reading a romance novel before, I had no idea what to expect. What I discovered was an engaging story about a woman living her life. I found a depth of detail I really enjoyed, from the genuine warmth of the characters to the descriptions of the Arizona environment. Coming from a large family who always made the time to sit down together for dinner (and having a mother who put a heap of effort into them), I found the mealtime get togethers bringing a smile to my face. A moving read with realistic characters and attention to detail. Well done.

Friday night book.
A Friday night book is one I start reading and don't want to put down until I finish it. You can't do that on the other nights of the week. I work in a local library and this is the way I rate books for my patrons. A Friday night book is a five-star book.

The characters in this book are very believeable and remind you of characters in every small town. Emotionally, the characters in this book take you from hurt to sad to angry, then happy and peaceful. Just as real life does.

I do have one suggestion. This author must be a gourmet cook because of all the wonderful food mentioned. I wonder if she would consider putting a few recipes in her next book. A couple of the well-known mystery writers do this and the staff and patrons of our library enjoy trying the recipes, especially the desserts.

Looking forward to more books from this author.

Good Luck!

Great book for all ages!!!
Betty Pace should be the foremost author in children's health books. She takes a subject like inner ear problems and makes it not only enjoyable, but interesting to read! I highly recommend this book to anyone who has a son or daughter who may need any type of medical treatement, or to anyone who wants to see how to explain something on the level of a child. I'll be looking forward to seeing more books from this author in the near future!

A wonderful book to read to a child before ear tube surgery
This is a perfect book to help ease the mind of a child that might be frightened of ear tube surgery. Just have mom or dad or both curl up in a comfortable chair with the child that is about to have ear tube surgery, get the book and read together. This should remove a lot of fear a small child might have.

Excellent to prepare kids for the hospital experience.
This book explains in a child friendly way what to expect from the first visit to the doctor, through the entire hospital experience. It is done in a way to make children anticipate the experience with joy, not fear. I would highly recommend this book for anyone with a child about to face hospitalization for ear tubes.

Jake and Chelsea bring firefighter trilogy to a close
Jake finds himself supervising a new firefighter in his team - unfortunately, Chelsea has a bad reputation because she got involved with a fellow coworker and ended up in a terrible situation.

Now as he struggles with his attraction to her, he must also cope with what appear to be Chelsea's mistakes. In reality, someone who doesn't want her around is making it appear as if she were incompetent, and it is putting the team in danger.

I loved these three books by Kathryn Shay. If you haven't read her, please do so, they are filled with great, real characters and details about the life and work of firefighters that make everything come alive.

One of the Best by One of the Best
Kathryn Shay is one of my favorite writers and this time she outdoes herself! Code of Honor is a wonderful story about two people with pain in their past who have the courage to overcome them -- and they do it with a lot of humor, passion and emotion.

There aren't too many books with firefighter heroes -- and fewer with firefighter heroines. I almost wish there were, but only if they were this good! There are two more books in this series, but this one is my favorite. Ummmm...love that Jake! I can't recommend this exciting and fascinating story enough.

Third book in her superb firefighters series!
This latest in her contemporary series about firefighters is exceptionally well-written, sexy, emotional, and sometimes funny. I just love Jake and Chelsea together. Jake is stoic, gorgeous, and Chelsea's boss...Uh-oh! The story is irresistible. I hope this is not the last book in her series. I hope Delaney and Reed's story is next! I highly recommend the 1st two in this series, FEEL THE HEAT and THE MAN WHO LOVED CHRISTMAS. I Loooove this series!

A Very Moving Read
This is one powerful book that packs a punch. Jamie Buckingham is a wonderful writer who captures the spirit of this woman in its fullness in this book. A biography that is at once honest, compassionate, touching, and life-transforming. There is a definite touch of God on this book. I've read it more than 3 times already and everytime it has succeeded in bringing new change into my life.

Daughter of Destiny
Recently, I read "Daughter of Destiny" and found the book to be truly amazing! Actually, I was speechless and had to take time to evaluate the many miracles that God has performed in my life. The book discloses Kathryne's call to the ministry, strengths, weaknesses, and her prayer that the Holy Spirit will always be with her. One of the truly profound strengths of the book is revealed when Kathryne is so strong-willed until she appears to be 'lead by the flesh' resulting in her losing focus on the agenda that God has for her. However, once her focus is completely on God, one is able to see the true manifestation of the Holy Spirit in all His GLORY! In all reality, the book shows how we as Christians sometimes get distracted only to later focus and love Jesus Christ with all of our heart! This book will set you free from the bondages of life! This book is a must read for all Christians who sometimes forget that we are imperfect vessels that God can still use. In addition, it is a great book on how we should be humble when serving a MIGHTY & AWESOME GOD! I guarantee that this book will bring you peace in the midst of any storms in your life as you see that no matter what we do in life, God is still in control. May God keep and bless you as you labor in His vineyard.

Will thrill and excite reader to tears.
True account of a humble woman of God who simply preached the gospel and trusted God for the results. God moved through those hearing the message, and many amazing miracles were the resulting affect. I've read this bood several times and it still excites me each time.

First Rate Fiction
The work here is so strong, funny, insightful. She seems to only choose her best work for publication. All of it is top flight. This can hardly be said for so much that is printed and puffed up these days. She is great.

every story is a gem
I came across a Kathryn Chetkovich story in the Houghton-Mifflin annual collection of best short stories (1998 edition), and knew I had to get my hands on "Friendly Fire" as soon as I could so I could read more of her writing. And I wasn't disappointed -- all of her stories are beautifully crafted and have an wonderfully understated wryness and insight -- you will be delighted, amused, and often moved by the perfect turns of phrase that Chetcovich finds to illuminate even the smallest incident or observation. Can't wait for more from this writer.

Absolute Stunner
I consider myself a reader and am usually aware of all the new books coming out. I picked this book up having heard nothing about it. I sat and read the first story of this collection and before I was even done the first page I knew Kathryn was a discovery. This is her first book and she has me for whatever else she writes. These stories about real struggle and emotional entanglements of the family. Having grown children I loved reading them. I don't usually write these reviews ; I don't feel competent ; but it is a crime to me that I hadn't heard of this book. FRIENDLY FIRE is so WONDERFUL. When I think of the books out there that receive so much attention. Kathryn is a gem. Support her work and you will not regret it!

Gifted for Good: Every Woman's Guide to Her Spiritual Gifts

Great God, Great Gifts, Great Read
A highly readable, encouraging look at spiritual gifts especially geared for women. A host of stories of women using their "rebirthday" gifts illustrates the amazing creativity of God and shows how the Spirit works through anyone who belongs to Jesus--whatever their limitations. The "Spiritual Gifts Survey for Women" in the back of the book is highly practical without the sometimes intimidating style of many "gifts tests." My women's Bible study group profited tremendously from working through it together.

This book is a great place for any woman to start considering how God has gifted her to serve, or for those who have already discovered their gifts to get a new take on their special "blend." Well worth twice the price!

Discover your "gift blend"
If you are searching for a book to help you discover and use your spiritual gifts, then buy this book-it is excellent! Kathryn Deering's gripping stories and practical insights shed a new light on this topic for me - I was able to identify spiritual gifts I didn't know I possessed.

Very glad I read it.
Of all the books on spiritual gifts I have read, "Gifted for Good" is the most helpful. I found this book not at all to be trendy, as the subject sometimes feels. Instead I felt compelled to view spiritual gifts as a crucial part of my Christian journey. It helped me take spiritual gifts a lot more seriously. One particularly strong aspect of the book, I found, was the author's ability to speak gently, and with real affirmation, to women of all denominational backgrounds. Many of the gray areas and lines of confusion that can be present in a discussion of spiritual gifts were treated with warmth and respect, without being glossed over. Deering refers to herself as a charismatic, yet it is hard for me to imagine that any one who may feel 'not in her camp' would feel the least bit confused or off-set by her teaching and use of scripture. The range of gifts she refers to is broad. At the end of the book is a thorough, detailed self inventory for women who are trying to identify their own gifts. This also, is the most helpful of its kind that I have come across.

One night stand yields baby and a romantic romp.
Caitlin Adams' plans include a quick trip to see her sister and congratulate her on her engagement before flying to Europe to complete a design assignment. It did not include the most wonderful night of her life with a man she just met. Her dream lover is none other then her new in-law: the man who felt Caitlin's sister too inferior to marry his rich brother. Returning from Europe a year later, Caitlin brings back three-month-old Tyler, the image of his father, and the joy of her life, but since the high and mighty Andrew Sinclair has no idea he is a daddy, Caitlin will keep their son her little secret.

A familiar tale, tweaked with a new twist, The Baby Bargain is just that--a bargain at your local bookstore.

A romantic, amusing romp
Kathryn Attalla does it again! Sparkling dialog, and well-defined main and secondary characters lift "The Baby Bargain" several notches above standard romance novels. I look forward to even more books by this talented author.

Great characters - fast moving.
This is one of the more witty, fun-loving books in the romance area that I have read in a long time. The characters developed quickly and strongly, and were very realistic. I enjoyed this book and hope to read more from this author.

Good on its own, but weakest entry in Bayview trilogy
Kathy Shay is a fabulous writer, and wonderful person. She's done another great job here, giving us a good story of two people who have to overcome real obstacles on the way to finding love together. The prologue was a real heart-wrencher, and of course, hooked me for the rest. The other reviewers here have summarized the story, so I won't repeat the plot here.

Let me say that if you judge this book strictly on its own, it's definitely a good book--great characterization, you feel like you're inside the characters' heads, and no one sets a scene better than Kathy does--whether it's the classroom, the medical clinic, or the characters' homes. I rooted for Zoe all the way through--she finally learned to stand up for herself, risks and all.

However. . .compared to the first two books in the Bayview High School series, Cop of the Year, and Because It's Christmas, this one falls a little short for me. I've also read her Firefighter series, "Christmas Legacy", and the two out from her Serenity House series, and all of them were so good that I would keep them on the nightstand, and re-read them again and again. "Count on Me" did not grab me that way. It may have been the infidelity issue, or maybe the unbelievable behavior of the high school girls that turned me off with this one.
Just one woman's opinion. This one is worth finding if you like the author as much as I do. . .or if you haven't read Harlequins since you were a kid and want to see that yes, they've grown up with you. Enjoy. . .

A powerful tale of trust -- very highly recommended
Zoe Caufield's unhappy fortieth birthday took months of recovery. She caught the man she loved -- the man who was about to declare his love and propose -- in his ex-wife's arms. Rather than protesting his innocence, his confession of unfaithfulness left Zoe devastated, especially when he stated his intentions to reconcile with Elizabeth, and move back home with her and their teen daughter.

It only took Kurt a month to recognize what a horrible mistake he had made. The very reasons that ended his marriage the first time almost immediately reemerged, but concern for his daughter led him to stay a year, until Lauren graduated from high school. After the first three months, his life became a living hell. After leaving Elizabeth, Kurt learns that the teen clinic in Bayview Heights has been approved, but only if he runs it. Not only is that a stipulation of the town council, but it is also a part of the stipulation of the federal grant that funds the clinic. So Kurt must move back to Bayview Heights -- a move that necessitates frequent interaction with the high school's health teacher.

Despite the depression, pain, and disappointment, Zoe got on with her life. She traveled, spent time with friends, enjoyed her job with her classes, teaching At Risk kids, as well as health classes. Although she still misses Kurt desperately, Zoe's learned to be happy without him. Only now he's suddenly back, part of her circle of friends, interaction professionally, and Zoe must cope with still loving him despite the pain he inflicted. Indeed, her love for her students leads to frequent interaction with Kurt, and leads to the question of whether she can learn to count on him again.

Katheryn Shay boldly presents a challenging theme in COUNT ON ME that I would ordinarily find untenable, simply because I have little patience for unfaithfulness. However, her heart-touching, sympathetic approach, gently working out both side's emotions kept me reading, and by the conclusion I realized that I indeed was rooting not only for the reconciliation, but also believed in the possibility of what I ordinarily would consider impossible. To challenge my opinion and win my sympathy demonstrates Shay's powerful story-telling ability. Further, the depth of characterization of not only the main characters, but also the secondary characters, speaks of first-hand knowledge of teens, challenges, and matters of the heart. Consequently, COUNT ON ME comes very highly recommended.

Against all odds
It's been nearly a year since Dr. Kurt Lansing broke high school teacher Zoe Caufield's heart. Through sheer will she has finally managed to come to terms with his betrayal and has succeeded in moving on with her life. The last thing she needs is a setback. So when she discovers that Kurt's idea for a teen clinic in Bayview Heights has been approved, she is less than thrilled about the idea of having to work with him. But for the sake of her students she is willing to put aside the pain that lies between them. Kurt isn't too happy with the situation either. He knows his presence in Bayview will hurt Zoe and after his attempt to reconcile with his ex-wife proved to be a dismal failure, the last thing he needs is to be reminded of what he foolishly tossed aside. And if Zoe's apparent indifference isn't bad enough, it seems the whole town isn't quite ready to forgive him for the mistake he made in hurting her.

"Count On Me" is the third installment of Kathryn Shay's moving Bayview Heights series. She does a great job of integrating the community into this story without detracting from Zoe and Kurt's relationship. Zoe is a remarkable heroine with her generous heart and eagerness to do what is right. The author portrays her as an optimist who is always looking to help or ease the pain of those around her, including the man who wronged her. Kurt begins the story on a less admirable note but quickly displays his need to heal others and to right wrongs. A lot of his internal conflict stems from the helplessness he feels in not being able to heal the pain he has inflicted upon the woman he has never stopped loving. Though he is resigned to the hostile attitude of Zoe's friends and students, he manages to eventually win them over by example. More importantly, he comes to care for and want to help Zoe's students, which makes Zoe wonder whether he is a man who can be depended upon after all.

"Count On Me" is a powerful story not just about the restoration of Zoe and Kurt's love but also about the relationships between teachers and students. One of the most interesting aspects of this story is the way in which Shay gives voice to many of the concerns high school students and their families face today. The author displays a keen insight when it comes to understanding the emotional inadequacies of the adult and teenage protagonists. This story will open your eyes and your heart and I highly recommend it to you.

Excellent book about the history of Dark Shadows.
The book explains how the show got it's start. You read about how the actors were choosen and about them personally. There is a section about what each actor has done since the show ended. An episode guide gives a brief summary about all 1245 shows. There are several pictures throughout the book. Stories are told about the writing, set designs, and funny things that happened during the run of the show. This is a very interesting book.

Absolutely Delightful!
I'm not a little kid, just one heavily into middle age. I
enjoy books with great illustrations. This one is fun...
absolutely delightful! I love the ghosts with binoculars and
MacGhost is marvelous. Kids of all ages will find themselves
smiling as they read.

A Must-Read
My 3 year old and I happened upon this book at the library. We have checked it out continually ever since while waiting for out copy to arrive. She has memorized the words to this book and to "The Ghost's Dinner". It's a fun book that I enjoy as much as she does.

I love this book
So does my daughter, who is 2 years old. This is a delightful, cute comedy of errors and mishaps that ends in a happy discovery for this marvelously inept family of ghosts. If you like Scotland or Nessie you'll love this book.
