Perfect 1st book for information about NLD
If you want to know more about NLD and interventions for this disorder; this is the perfect "starter book." Although I have heard many people say this book is geared for parents/educators with older NLD kids, I feel it is important to read, no matter what the age of your NLDer.
It gives all the traits on NLD (along with checklists), the thoughtful opinions of the author as to what category NLD should be under and ways to help an NLDer of any age.
What I really like beside the above is how the author makes sure the reader understands the importance of trying to get our NLDers prepared for independent life. If you have a young child with NLD, reading these "insights" is sure to help you to be wary of overcompensating for your childs disability while at the same time giving your child what he/she needs. By explaining some problems "older" NLDer's have-such as hygiene; it helped me to recognize the importance of working on these issues now before they become a problem. You won't understand this concept fully until you read the book yourself.
The book is an easy read, gives you a lot of information so you will understand and know how to help your NLD child.
IF you have an AS child, I think this book would also be good but I felt it gave more insight into NLD than it did AS.

Treats parents like they know something
Excellent book that address the diagnosis and the specific issues in NLD and Asperger's in a way that make the jargon understandable. More importantly, she is warm and funny and seems to really know these kids - not some detached doctor. For parents and for parents to give to their doctors, their schools and their family members.

Finally A Plan for My Life Agenda!!
The 7 Laws of Highest Prosperity is the greatest book I've read this year! This book helped to get a clear focus on what God wants me to do. It is a refreshing story about how God desires all of us to be prosperous in every area of our lives. What better what to witness than through success! If you're looking for clear understanding of God's purpose for your life, then this is the book for you!

Down to Earth Help for the Hopeless & the Hopeful!
Cecil O. Kemp's "7 Laws of Highest Prosperity" has more practical spiritual guidance than Steven Covey's "Seven Habits of Highly Successful People", and is more readable than Spencer Johnson's "Who Moved My Cheese?". Following Sam's road from lowly beginnings to "highest prosperity" was for me both a pleasure and a beginning of my own journey to seek highest prosperity. When it comes to knowing how to live prosperously, Kemp hits the nail on the noggin! No false premise here.

A Modern Day Parable
This book reads like a modern-day parable; a story that draws one in and makes one look at oneself with new eyes. I felt like Kemp was writing about ME.
As I shared the book with friends, their reaction was much the same.
I have highly recommend 7 Laws of Highest Prosperity to my church members.

The search for inner strength, pride, and freedom
Kathryn Ellen Davis' debut novel Polyester Pride is about a young women who grows up poor in Northern Maine, seeing marriage as the dream and the highest goal for her life. But when she marries her high school sweetheart, he turns out to be an alcoholic given to regular physical abuse. Her rough awakening and search for inner strength, pride, and freedom compose a powerful tale of struggle and independence in this impressive, compelling, and highly recommended story.

Captivating
This novel is one of the most realistic portrayals of Downeast Maine that I have ever read. Living in Downeast Maine and experiencing many of the trials and tribulations that are portrayed in this novel, are what makes Polyester Pride a definate five star for me. I can't wait for the sequel.

The Safari Companion: A Guide to Watching African Mammals

Excellent book for the safari rookie
I was looking for a book or two (as luggage weight limits were tight)to enhance my first safari experience to the national parks of Tanzania. I selected this book based on Amazon.com reader feedback. It was a real help during the safari and continues to be used while reviewing video, photos, and books on African wildlife. I also took a good field guide (Audubon)--but these were widely available on the safari 4WD as well as at the lodges. What makes the Estes book unique is it describes the MEANING of the behavior and social groups you see on the game drives. Almost daily we would see sights that struck me as unexpected--like an all male group of 40 impalas, or zebras leading a line of hundreds of wildebeest; I'd look up that species in the Estes book back at camp and he would explain the meaning of the behavior. My safari mates were all very experienced and involved in zoos in the USA. They would often ask to borrow my "Estes" for their use.

In my opinion, if you can only take one book other than your safari journal--take this one. If you can take two, include a good field guide (like Audubon).

Great for Amateurs
Most African Mammal guides are designed for people working in that field. Here, we have one specifically designed for the average enthusiast who wants to know a bit more than provided in the also essential Audobon Guide to African Wildlife. Let's face it - while you may get the occasional bird or even reptile enthusiast, it's the mammals that capture the imagination of the average person on the street when it comes to the wildlife of Africa.

You don't have to travel to the Dark Continent to enjoy this one, and - in acknowledgement that people can be interested in wildlife without necessarily being able or willing to go on Safari - it's also designed for use if you're fortunate enough (as I am) to be a regular at a quality zoo or even a regular viewer of "National Geographic" or "Nature".

The book is very easy to use and browse through, explaining habits and noting the best parks and reserves for each animal, as well as the animal's major predators or relationship with other predators. You don't have to look through it long to wish for similar volumes for Asia and North America.

Certainly worthy of being one of the first books on the shelf of anyone who loves African wildlife.

"The" Safari Book
If you are going on safari, and you need to bring only one book, this is the one. Contrasts with other books in that its focus is on explaining animal behavior -- answers the "what are they doing?" query better than any other book out there. And its intellectually inquisitive aspect makes for interesting reading. Also --- we happened to meet the author by chance, and he was quite nice and interesting; a passionate scholar.

great book
I really loved this book. I just suggest you read Anna and the Duke first because if you read it second (like I did), it kind of messes things up becuase you know what's going to happen. Emily has gone through alot including the death of her father, the appearance of a brother, Ewan, she never knew she had, and her other brother, Richard, going practically insane and trying to get rid of Ewan, and a man proposing to her on a wager. So she decides not to stay in London and goes to stay with Ewan and his wife Anna (see what I mean about reading Anna and the Duke first?) in the land she has always wanted to see: Scotland. There she meets Ewan's cousin Jamie who is very unlike his cousin. There are a lot of mishaps and you can guess what happens.

Just as good as 'Anna and the Duke'
Emily Fitzgerald and her family have been burdened with scandal since her bother, Richard, attempted to murder their half brother, Ewan. Her chances to make a good match seem hopeless but a top bachelor proposes to her. However, Emily has always been determined to marry for love. Fearing more scandal for turning down the proposal, she decides to vacation with Ewan in Scotland. She would be enjoying her vacation but Ewan's cousin, Jaime, and her are constantly arguing. Emily highly doubts that her and the brash scot will ever get along.

This book is the sequel to a previous Avon True Romance, Anna and the Duke, but it's not really necessary to read that one to understand this one. Emily and the Scot is a watered down but well done type of love/hate story. Although Emily and Jamie never really hated each other their personalities just grate against one another's. The characters were vibrant and the romance managed to remain interesting throughout the entire book. I also really enjoyed the ending. The author showed great restraint in making it a happy but realistic one. Emily and the Scot and Anna and the Duke are two of the best books this series has to offer and I highly recommend them both.

Five stars!!
This was a great book, and kind of a follow up story to Anna and the Duke.

This time however the girl is Emily Fitzgerald, Ewan's half sister, and she has come to Scotland to visit Ewan and to get away from the rumors that are circling around her in England due to a refused proposal. When she gets there she sees Jamie MacLaughlin, and a series of events happens which gets the two to hating each other.

Jamie MacLaughlin, is star struck the first time he sees Emily, and knows that she is the most beautiful girl he has ever seen, until he meets her and the two don't exactly hit it off.

What two fail to realize is that they fuss and fight, but are attracted to each other, especially after their first kiss when they can't stop thinking about each other. But will they realize that in time for their romance to have a chance? Or will they fall apart due to each of their own stubborness?

I recommend this book and all the others in this series to anyone who like historical fiction romance.

A tale of a remarkable woman
As an author, I bought this book to use as a reference book while writing a fictional story about a similar type of family. I read this book as a young woman and saw both the stage play and the movie. It is a touching tale of a more simple time and a remarkable woman. Rosalie Kramer, "Dancing in the Dark: Things My Mother Never Told Me."

Way Back When
When I read this book I could go back to many years ago when most of the women in those days were just like Mama.Their concern, love, understanding, wisdom, wit, creative and hard work that they endured have made this country what it is today. If only we could instill some of these values in our people today what a difference it would make. This is a wonderful read and so glad that I could read a down to earth book like Mama's Bank Account'

A Neglected Literary Gem
I first read this novel in 1946 as a freshman in high school. The author's son was a sophomore in the same school. Dick was enormously popular, class president, a natural athlete, gifted amateur actor, public speaker and writer. Certainly a remarkable lad in his own right. (In 1947, having dropped a water bomb on one of the faculty, I knew my days were numbered and changed schools. Never ran into Dick again. So this is not a review written by a friend). That said, it was only de rigueur to read a book written by a classmate's mother.

The story line has been described by other reviewers, and their comments are right on target. One thing I might add is that Kathryn Forbes enjoyed a widespread national celebrity in the late forties, particularly after the Hollywood film was released. The story was also adapted for theater and, later, television. Sadly, celebrity is a perishable commodity.

I picked up this book and read it again last year. As a published novelist, I read it on this occasion with a very critical eye. It is as fresh as it was more than half a century ago. Not a great novel in the Faulknerian sense, but certainly a small classic. It is a charming work of great originality. Anyone interested in becoming a writer would do well to study it. See how beautifully Kathryn Forbes blends the theme and story line. Check out the clever characterization, and the simplicity of her writing style (never pretentious). This book is truly a little gem of its genre.

Outstanding and Easy to understand!!
I read the Zone Diet and found it very complicated. But, I knew that I was on to something. When I got this book,I read this book in one sitting and in only 57 pages, all was crystal clear. How to do it and WHY to do it. My mother is 80 and has been plagued by stomach disorders for so long. Too many years of eating everything together was wreaking havoc with her digestion and therefore, her well being. I asked her to try this way of eating for just two days. On the second day, she noticed a remarkable change in how she felt...no more cramping or sour stomach! She felt that she could think more clearly and her fatigue was disappearing. If anyone wants to understand food combining in a nutshell, this is the BEST book to start with. It will set the stage and give you a foundation to understand all the other ones out there which go into more detail.

Very Helpful
This book is very helpful in redefining the Food Combining rules that Marilu Henner talks about in her books. After reading all of Henner's books, I still had some additional questions about how to properly food combine. This book was a tremendous help. Plus, it is short, sweet, and to the point. Excellent book.

short, concise book intro to food combining
This is a short, consise book that walks you through the rules and reasoning of food combining. You can read it in one setting. The whole book is layed out very nicely, and the pictures and charts are colorful and pleasant to look at. You can pop this book in your purse or bag when you go shopping. I've read Marilu Henner's book and I was confused about when to use soy to make a "complete protein" out of a meal of say, fish and rice, which is considered improper food combining. This book explained soy and other legumes and their role in food combining.

One of the best pieces of historical fiction ever read...
I am a huge fan of the historical fiction genre, and I must say the is the most delightful book of this type I have ever read. I join with the other reviewers bemoaning that there is not a sequal to this book...

Great
This book is the best historical fiction i have ever read. I am so upset that there isn't a sequel or at least aanother book like it. I have re-read this book so many times that i know it by heart.

A book fit for a Queen? Maybe...
I was about 14 or 15 when I first read this book; I checked it out from the local library several times, got in trouble with my mom because of the lurid cover, mourned when some other patron checked it out and never brought it back. Firmly believing that _Kathryn_ was The Best Book in the World, I searched for it high and low, and every time I went to a used bookstore, even many years later, I would at least cursorily scan the Romance section to see if I could find this. Thank the Gods for the Internet!

Opening _Kathryn_ again was like sitting down at Ye Olde Pub with wonderful old friends--the savvy and ever-surviving Kathryn with her knack for keeping her head--literally--at Henry VIII's court, and John de Gael, the outrageously dressed, rakish pagan lord who delighted in being the only man who dared to argue with King Hal. Having sampled some very fine literature, I no longer hold with the opinion that _Kathryn_ is The Best Book in the World, but even as the years have made me more snobbish about prose style, they have also made me realize just how good _Kathryn_ truly is for its genre--I've read enough historical romances by now to realize that this is a gem among them.

First of all, the romance between the leading characters is deeper and more realistic than that found in most romance novels. Most romance novels tell of whirlwind courtships, and end with a hasty wedding taking place while the couple is still in the first throes of infatuation. We never get to see how two people can grow older and wiser together. But Kathryn and John are different. They first fall in love as hormonal young people, but fate and the King separate them. We see them grow stronger through adversity; we smile at the new loves that show them joy again, and when they finally reunite as lovers, it is the triumph of two tenacious and passionate adults, not the whim of a couple of besotted kids. Second, the paganism (which mostly went over my head at 14) is done magnificently. What could have been saccharine and cheesy is instead mysterious, dangerous, and often tragic--think of British sacred/sacrificial king lore here. Finally, _Kathryn_ is notable for its fascinating glimpse into Henry's court. All of the historical personages come vividly alive in Abbey's hands. It was this book, long ago, that sent me off to the History section of the library to figure out what was real and what was fiction. I was heartbroken at first when I found no trace that Kathryn Chase had ever lived, but then I was sucked in by the real history, and to this day my friends tend to think I'm a total weirdo whenever Henry VIII comes up; no one can figure out why I bothered to learn all the little details.

So, if you like historical romances, and if you can find a reasonably priced copy of _Kathryn_, don't hesitate to snap it up; it's hard to find these days. Then, pour yourself a glass of the beverage of your choice, find a comfy chair, and prepare to fall in love with Lady Chase.

"The Nun's Story": an engaging text.
As a fairly unfamiliar person when it comes to Catholism I found this story most interesting and very well written. The flow from chapter to chapter was smooth. The story kept me interested enough to "read an extra chapter before retiring", for example. I could put it down, but waited with anticipation to start reading again. Hulme did a good job, to say the least, and I think the editor did do. As a prior member of our Armed Forces I found the discipline of the Sisters' admirable. As a Christian I know there is nothing I can do to earn God's amazing grace. Which is what the book is about in large part: how can Sister Luke justify herself to God? Well, she can't; but no one can! That's why Jesus came into the world.

This one is worth the wait!
I've read this book again and again for the past 3 years and I've enjoyed it each time. It's dept of character, the smooth writing and captivating plot still engages me. I was lucky to find a first edition, hardbound, copy after a long search around the world; if ur trying to get a copy and can't find one, don't give up. This one is worth the wait. U'll love every minute of it.

Satisfactory starter ideas-Exclusive product use is imminent
I live in Washington, and spend more time than my husband would like in "Impress", whose owner penned this book.
It is a great book for style and substance..but most of all, starters. The designs are not too complicated for the early - medium crafter, but will require specific tools.

Ms. Perkins has great creativity (or a fabulous design team), which is evident in this book - but the suggestions also utilize several items exclusive to the "Impress" line of stamps and products. This fact wasn't as helpful to the friend I sent it to in Hawaii. She really loved the designs, but was apprehensive about spending so much on products and shipping from the author's web store.

All in all, I do use this book, and add my own sense of personal style to the building blocks she has laid before us in "Stamping with Style". Worth a look. ~*~

All in all, a nice book.
It seems to be a great book for beginners with lots of neat card projects. The book is set out by months of the year and cards you could make that month. The card projects aren't as nice as I was hoping, but they definitely have potential and the instructions are clear and concise. There is even a section at the back of the book that lists stamping resources.

I didn't give it that 5th perfect star because I was hoping the card projects in the book would be nicer and more colourful. I also didn't give it the 5th elusive star because alot of the stamps used in the book are now discontinued and very hard to get a hold of.

Simply great!
I received this book from Amazon just today and was simply thrilled when I browsed through it. I have been rubber stamping for quite sometime now and have wanted to get books with cards that look "professional" (cards that look more like what you buy from stores than those that look like "kid's art"). I find this book to give me the inspiration I need when I want to make a good quality card for someone special. The cards are simple-to-make yet look elegant. A good buy!
