A "MUST HAVE" for Troop Leaders!!!
I highly recommend purchasing both "On My Honor" AND "Whene'r you Make Promise" for your personal resource, OR your Service Unit Library! Both are beautifully illustrated, and great tools for learning about the history of scouting in the US. Younger girls appreciate dressing the dolls in their period Uniforms and dresses, older girls can also enjoy the personal stories included. Use these books to tie in the requirements for many patches andd badges such as "Brownie Girl Scouts Through The Years" and "Her Story" try-its, The "Juliette Low" patch, and the "Girl Scouting Through the Years" Junior Badge. No girl is ever too old for paper dolls, and these are a high quality product line! My girls particularly liked trying to imagine camping in such complicated underclothes, as well as comparing patches and awards to today's equivalents. These books deserve an "A".

Great book
This used to be my favorite book when I was younger. I would recemend it to any kid whos in 4th or 5th grade. I am in 8th grade now but sometimes when I get bored i take out that book and start to read it agin.

The Great Review of On My Honor
It was good interesting book. The way the characters feelings changed they were happy then sad. There names are Joel and Tony the book started to go to Starved Rock Park, but they didn't make it. I think it was one of the best books I ever read.

A Very Moving Book
Over the past 5 years I have read this book 4 times. Some people might think it depressing but I found it to be strangely uplifting. Focusing on Cornelius Ryan's ultimately fatal battle with prostate cancer, it nonetheless practically shouts triumph over incredibly severe odds. A nerve of steel runs through this book as well as softer moments that every human can relate to. The "main characters" of the book - Connie, Katie, Geoff and Vickie - almost become a part of your own family and, by book's end, you feel you intimately know these people, and are the better for it. The book is also full of perimeter characters - doctors, friends and family - who also come alive and jump out of the pages. The reader begins to know Cornelius Ryan and his co-author wife, Kathryn Morgan Ryan, and they marvel at the resilience of these two who, together, travel a very long and tiring road. I strongly recommend this book to anyone, but especially those experiencing similar situations in life. In my estimation, this book is a literary masterpiece. (As an aside, I always wondered what ever happened to Kathryn "Katie" after Connie's death; great was my sorrow to learn that she passed away in 1993 in her 60s. Geoff and Vickie are now married, with children of their own).

A tale of living
While writing his last book, A Bridge Too Far, Cornelius Ryan was fighting a losing 4-½ year battle with prostate cancer. A Private Battle is a compilation of secret journals, one kept by "Connie" Ryan and the other by his wife Kathryn Morgan Ryan. Kathryn found her husband's record only after his death. We are given the privilege of living the pain and love of these two remarkable people as they experience the finiteness of life cut short and its effects on their entire family. Their rare ability to express their emotions in a concise, yet painfully honest manner makes this a book that should be required reading for all couples preparing for marriage, or just for living life. If you enjoyed 'Tuesday's With Morrie...', you must read this book. This review does not do justice to what I experienced reading this book.

D-DAY STORY
this book is really good and has lots of deph in it, if u want to lears about the d0day invasion readf this book, it reads well and its not too long

Great for beginner readers
I have to say i am a little biased in my opinion about the book....my oldest daughter Lauren is the author of the poem in the front of the book...of which i am very proud...my younger daughters Emily age 71/2 and Katie age 3 absolutely love the book...Emily is a beginner reader and loves to read the book to her younger sister..it not only helps her with her reading it encourages her younger sister to do the same as well as teaches them about listening to your parents and the events that follow all your choices...I am trying to place the book in Emily's school library of which i am certain will make a wonderful addition. Emily is already anxious to read more about Roger and Rosie, of which I am glad to hear her say...Mom...i want to read it again! We need more books to stimulate reading in our children. Thanks again for this wonderful addition.

Andrea's review
I am a Speech Therapist for the Lafourche Parish School Board and enjoy reading this book to all my speech impaired children! (They also love it!) It is a wonderful book to teach vocabulary, problem solving, critial thinking, predicting possible outcomes and comprehension skills. The book takes you on a journey that is taken by 2 little raccoons. This journey is taken after their mother tells them to stay inside their home while she is away. The 2 explore the outside world alone and learn about different dangers. They are very scared and realize a very valuable lesson of listening to their mother. They are also taught that dangers are harmful and should be avoided. I recommend this book to all speech therapists, teachers and parents! Your kids will love to hear about this wonderful adventure!

A Very Good Life Learning Tool for Kids
I consider this book to be a 'very good life learning tool' to assist parents in teaching kids the difference in wrong and right. In order to accomplish that mission in teaching through reading, one must create a character (roger the raccoon) that will capture and hold the attention of a child. A raccoon is an animal that is easily identified by a child due to the black rings around its eyes. The character must be unique for that specific animal to be identified as the only one of its kind (red-banded tail); such as Big Bird. When a child thinks of Roger, he or she will remember the lessons learned by Roger and his life experiences that relate to the child that is reading or listening to the book being read.

A Superb Book!
This was a Superb Book, very well written. Something Else was really cute and we would love to meet him. We have written to Kathryn Cave and hope to hear from her soon. Tunstead Primary School year 2 pupils.

Wonderfully Written!
This book offers children a subtle message about friendship and the acceptance of others' differences. Also, the cute illustrations make it easy for younger children to follow the storyline. My 2 year old loves me to read this book to her over and over again. Well worth the money!

Beautiful. Everyone is something else sometime.
Bittersweet. Ironic. Touching without the usual heaviness of Politically Correct children's books.

This One's A Winner!
Whether you're new to teaching or a veteran struggling with burn-out issues, this book is for you. It's sole purpose seems to be to help us get back to what makes teaching so rewarding - the kids. I worked with The Teacher's Journey last year and it really helped. Its simple, no nonsense approach has none of the preachy condescension or overblown scholarly language so common in "self-help" books. It's organized into manageable units like Communication, Diversity and Creativity, that you can cover at your own pace and in any order you like. I especially liked the chapter on Balance. The exercises and sctivities weren't too complicated or time-consuming, and they helped me see the good things - and the not-so-good things - I was doing in my classroom. (Although some of the activities are clearly designed for teachers working in pairs or groups, I managed just fine on my own.) Finally, this book helped me do more than just think about making changes; it actually showed me how to make change happen. The whole "feel" of my classroom is getting better. I think my students are happier. I know I am!

Teacher's Journey--nourishment for the trip
The Teacher's Journey is ideal for any educator struggling to balance a role that extends beyond classroom instructor to master communicator, technology expert, educational psychologist and social worker. The book is packed with good sense, insightful exercises, and practical information on six crucial areas: communication, confidence, courage, balance, creativity and diversity. It's easy to understand why one teacher who used the book called it "chicken soup for the teacher's soul." Now I know what I‚m going to get all my teacher friends for Christmas!

Beyond Lesson Planning
This is an enjoyable way for every teacher to get to the core of what teaching is all about and make it work in the classroom. There are three steps in the process--examining yourself and your environment, setting goals, and applying what you learned to help your students. The process is both fun and revealing. There are a variety of activities including journaling, games, and discussion. All of this gives you great insight into how you interact with your students and helps you find new ways to improve that interaction. The book offers suggestions for using in a group format also. There are wonderful witty and inspiring quotations throughout.

The Best Children's Book
A wonderful, wonderful book. Please reprint it. I would buy 11 copies!

Reprint this book! I'd buy ten copies for gifts.
52 Stories and rhymes by Kathryn and Byron Jackson with over 100 pictures by Gustaf Tenggren (1948 copyright by Simon & Schuster). This is a 96 page, 10 x 13 inch Giant Golden Book with exceptionally good rhymes, stories and artwork. The two page illustrated poem, The Wildcat's Picnic was a favorite bedtime read aloud for my son. Using a family on a ranch as the main characters the 1-2 page stories are often told from the viewpoint of the little 6 year old boy named Jon, or his similarly aged indian friend Little Bear or his sister Susie. Some story titles: Cattle Rustlers, Ghost Town, The Calico Colt, Prairie Fire, The Tornado, Lazy River Ranch, Calf Branding, The Square Dance, Snowbound, The Totem Pole, The First Buffalo, Three Little Indians, Indian Housecleaning, The Nice Tipi, The Stampede, etc. There is a Chinese cook named "No Pow Wow, on a ranch also populated with Daddy and Mother, Grandpa sister Susie, and various ranch hands. This is a wonderful bedtime story book especially for 4-9 year olds. Many stories teach virtues, or reflect common values. A beautifully done book. I wish Applewood Books would take it on as a reprint project.

This book was one of two favorite books from my childhood.
Since I grew up in cowboy country during the late 40's and early 50's, I loved stories about children growing up on ranches and Indian children. As an adult, I shared this book with my own students, discussing with them not only how the way of life in the West has changed, but how attitudes and beliefs about minority groups, such as Native Americans, has changed. The pictures in this book are delightful. The stories and poems about everyday life in the West long ago provide a basis of interesting discussions in the elementary social studies classroom.

The Best of the Series
This is the best book of the Trixie Belden books. My copy is worn out from rereading it so many times. I even have that mysterious prophecy memorized. I wish they would put these books back in print.

The best
I have read this book several times and i find this book the best of the whole series. It is about all the bwg except dan and there friends from iowa (yow remeber the book about Happy Valley)taking a trip to New york and of course being trixie she finds a mystery deling with a prophecy and old women handed her. It is really a great book you feel for trixie as she goes through the ups and downs of the prophecy but Trixie and Honey alway triumph in the end...It is a must read....y

First-rate
This mystery has Trixie and the BWG's in New York with their friends from Iowa. It begins with a mysterious prophecy from a woman Trixie befriends and follows the gang through New York City's highs and lows. This is one of the best of the early series...a must read for a real fan! I'm twenty-four, a graduate student and married, but I still love to go back to these for a little fun.

Very Easy to Understand!
So many of the people I care about have heart disease, and this book was a terrific explanation in layperson's terms of all the things that enter into and are a part of heart disease. The illustrations are especially good in helping with the explanations. Dr. Sauvage also provides simple means to help prevent/correct problems. This is a terrific book for patients to read and then ask any follow-up questions about their condition with their doctors/cardiologists.

I especially like Dr. Sauvage's including his opinions within the book about what has worked for him in his experiences. For example, he includes serving others as an important aspect of life.

You Can Beat Heart Disease
I knew nothing about heart disease until my father had a heart attack. I always deal with tramatic situations by trying to understand the problem. I purchased about 14 books on heart disease, and "You Can Beat Heart Disease" was by far the best. This book was written for the average person wanting to understand what happened to someone they love and how to move in the right direction to improve the situation going forward. An added bonus to the book is that I am changing the way I manage my own health for now on. Thanks go to the author, Lester R. Sauvage.

Finally.....An Easy to Follow Diet
Dr. Sauvage's newest book, The Better Life Diet, is a simple diet that anyone can follow. It answers questions that we all have about diet and health. The meal plan is practical (any busy person can follow) and has lots of variety/flavor. I appreciate the fact that Dr. Sauvage has evaulated all the competitive (and conflicting) diets on the market and pulls "the best points from each of them".

Treats the reader to enough thrills and spills to satisfy
... And Not A Penny More is the follow-up to the first Bay Tanner mystery, In For A Penny. Bay is also a retired accountant, who is still recovering from losing her husband in a plane explosion which tore up her shoulder. Bay has a talent for sniffing out injustice. Her wheelchair ridden father, known as "The Judge," operates in the background to not only look after Bay, but to assist her.

Bay's old friend, now Countess and divorcee Jordan von Brandt, returns to South Carolina after her mother mysteriously dies aboard a cruise ship. Leslie Herrington was in perfect health, and Jordan wants answers. Bay joins Jordan and her brother Trey aboard a cruise ship destined for islands in the Caribbean, where Bay finds a new love in the unlikely ranks of Interpol, plus possible answers to her own past:

"That's what I'd like to know.' Darnay lit one of his foul French cigarettes and offered it to me. I waved it away. What do you have to do with Eddie Brown shoes?' he demanded. Who?' The guy who's been tailing you. The one who just came looking for us.' I have no idea what you're talking about.' Come on, Bay. Level with me. He doesn't have any reason to be interested in me, so it has to be you. What have you done to attract the attention of a Miami mobster?'"

Bay Tanner is a compelling, sexy heroine who chain smokes (cigarette country), runs away from the many men who pursue her, and uses her big heart and great instincts to save her friends from bad real estate deals, International terrorists, and serial killers. And Not A Penny More is an excellent follow-up to a series that treats the readers to enough thrills and spills to satisfy.

Southern-fried Sleuth Sizzles!
I just finished reading IN FOR A PENNY, an international intrigue with just the perfect hint of romance, and was thrilled to find that Kathryn Wall, a favorite new author of mine, did not disappoint her fans with the standard "second novel crank-out." A natural storyteller and seasoned wordsmith, Wall has once again crafted a complex and compelling plot and peopled it with a stellar cast of larger-than-life characters.

Bay Tanner, the gutsy little rebel-rouser heroine widowed in Wall's first novel, IN FOR A PENNY, is a chip off the Judge's salty block. Like her dad, Bay has nose for foul play and, since her husband's horrific murder in book one, an apparently unsquelchable passion for sleuthing. So when the matriarch of monied friends meets her untimely and suspicious death, Bay Tanner is hooked and off to the races again.

Wall should have called this one IN FOR A GRAND. It's a grand read and sure to leave readers primed and ready for the inevitable book three in the series.

C'est magnifique!
