The Perfect Christmas Storybook
For my siblings and me, the absolute favorite book from our childhood that certainly deserves resurrection. Its wonderful and mostly humorous Christmas stories and poems are centered around animals and all subtly present caring and giving as their centerpiece. The Richard Scarry illustrations that accompany it are fantastic.

Wonderful book for small children
My parents read this book to me when I was a child and I've always loved it. My favorite poem in it is called "A Pigs Merry Christmas". In it a pig goes to the store to shop for friends and ends up buying only for himself...late he sees that it's much more fun to give than to get!

Excellent Reference
This is a must have for those wishing to find out more about styles, techniques, and materials. The book is written cearly and those not familiar with art will find it easy to understand.

Anyone taking an art course of some kind will find this book very helpful. Those wishing to workin in a museum with art objects would find this book very helpful too. And finally, people who love antique hunting should use this as a reference.

Great concise introductory guide to antique terms !
Found this at the library and it was just what I was looking for. An easy to understand reference for terms used about antiques and collectables. Each topic has Who, When, Where and What information with 3-8 paragraphs explaining the topic - the basics. A great companion for those numerous price guides that list items with terms such as Eastlake, Mission, Regency, etc. If you are just starting to learn antiques and you don't know what these and similar terms mean, this book is for you.

Arabian Nights
Arguably the best film version of "A Thousand and One Arabian Nights" in exsistence. Between stories of humour, adventure, and fantasy is the intriguing story of Scherizade, second wife of the Sultan, who must tell her stories to save her life, and to save her husband from madness and his treacherous brother.

An enchanting version of a classic tale
Arabian Nights is the second Hallmark Entertainment Book by Kathryn Wesley and even better than the first. Most of us are at least somewhat familiar with stories like Aladdin and Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves. The stories are retold here with humor and style, along with some stories with which most people are not familiar. But the main story here is the story of the clever storyteller Scheherazade, which is the best story of them all.

A must read for anti-choicers
I bought this book many years ago while doing my never ending research about abortion and the law. This book presents the stories of real people who suffered through unwanted pregnancies because abortion wasn't a legal or safe option, those who had illegal, painful abortions, and even medical professionals who argued for the option of a choice for women. There were even stories of men who stood by the side of thier loved ones during those immpossible times. I think it is what I liked about this book. It was very personal and touching. But it really made me sad to think that there was a day when women had two choices when facing an unwanted pregnancy: death and/or mutilation or parenthood against thier will. This should be required reading in high school so that everyone is aware of how barbaric the US was and could be again if we don't assert the desire to treat women with dignity and respect.

A must-read for any feminist and pro-choicer!
This book shows exactly what can happen if the religious right is successful in criminalizing abortion. The back alley and back room abortionists will be back in business and women will once again die. Abortion rights is something that no one can ignore. The banning of abortion can happen to us in the U.S. if we aren't paying attention and remaining active. Women will have abortions regardless of the laws. It is every woman's right to control her own body.

Wonderful
That is the cutest baby on the cover that I've ever seen in my whole life. It's about time that a successful lawyer found a way to structure her career around her family!

Extremely well-written with great insight
Perfect book for the working woman of modern times who is faced with juggling career and family. Most would assume that a lawyer has no other choice but to work full-time in order to achieve success in the field. Kathy shares great ideas and fabulous insight as a mother. I highly recommend this book to anyone needing sound advice and a great perspective on juggling these challenging roles while finding fulfillment. Kathryn Plonsky is a superb writer.

Tugs on the heartstrings
I received this book for Mother's Day from a dear friend who supported me through a long struggle with infertility. I was blessed to give birth to my daughter Caitlin in September, 2000. This book is wonderfully touching as a mother tells her daughter about what she was like before she became a mother, and how much she longed to someday be a mom. She tells her daughter, Katie, how she named all of her stuffed animals and toys "Katie" ... and how "she dreamed of having her own little girl to love."
"Now, I am your mother, and you are my only Katie. I tuck you in and tell you stories about the time before your time, when I was a little girl who ...slept in her firefighter boots...and who dreamed of having her own little girl to love."

For any woman who has longed for a child and has had her dream come true, this book will tug at her heartstrings for sure. And what a wonderful way for us to remind our children of how much they were wanted and how deeply they are loved.

I can't say enough about this book, as you can see. :)

Vicki (Who also named her dog Katie when she was a kid)
Mama to Caitlin

A thoughtful tribute to mothers and daughters everywhere
Engagingly written by Kathryn Lasky, Before I Was Your Mother is a thoughtful tribute to mothers and daughters everywhere, reminiscing about how every beloved mother was once a precocious little girl herself. Charming color illustrations by LeUyen Pham fill the pages of this tender picture book for young readers ages 3 to 7. Very highly recommended for family, school, and community library picture book collections, Before I Was Your Mother would make an especially nice gift for Mother's Day!

A "must-read" for the lingering legions of Bing Crosby fans
Richard Grudens' Bing Crosby: Crooner Of The Century is an impressive presented and informatively written tribute to the famous singer Bing Crosby, his varied and sometimes difficult life, his family, the success story of his singing and acting career, and the lasting cultural reflections of his work. Featuring an introduction by Bing Crosby's wife Kathryn Grant Crosby, Bing Crosby: Crooner Of The Century is a "must-read" for the lingering legions of Bing Crosby fans.

Great Buy
Richard Gruden's heartwarming tale of Bing Crosby's life story is one that will remain in my personal library of well-written biographies for a long time. From birth to death, Bing Crosby's life is passionately displayed through words and pictures alike. Crosby fans and those new to his world of musical talent will instantly be entranced by the smooth flow of the story. Finally! A biography about one of the world's most influential musicians that doesn't read like a textbook but rather like a tale that makes me want to read it again and again!

I applaud Grudens for a job well done. "Bing Crosby--Crooner of the Century" will surely be a favorite of those who know Bing Crosby and wish to know more. The story comes with my highest recommendation.

Kathryn Byer Creates Another Haunting Woman's Voice
In CATCHING LIGHT, Kathryn Stripling Byer weaves yet again her own brand of poetic magic. Poems in the voice of an aging woman named Evelyn take us into the life and imagination of a woman who refuses to give up, refuses to let go of life. In lyrics with delicate yet strong movement and closure, she gathers her reader into the web that only language well used can weave. Byer continues to grow as a poet, and I look forward to future volumes. The terms Southern and Appalachian no longer apply to such work; it has moved beyond the regional and into a realm accessible to anyone who cares about poetry, regardless of its regional roots. All good poems begin in the particulars of their worlds, of course, but too often poems termed regional, especially Southern or Appalachian, are met with condescension from the more entlighted literati in NYC, Provincetown, and else where. Byer's poems rebuke such a constricted view of American poetry.

Unflinching yet Lyrical Look at Aging
Kathryn Stripling Byer's fourth book of poetry takes on the subject of a woman's old age, her last days, and how she reacts to them. By turns stark, witty, lyrical, elegiac, these poems seem determined to rise to the challenge issued by Eavan Boland in several of her poems and essays that writing about an aging woman is difficult if not downright impossible in the Western poetic tradition. In the voice of a woman by the name of Evelyn, and growing out of a collaboration with photographer Louanne Watley, whose Evelyn Series illuminated the last days of an eccentric old woman, these poems take the reader into Evelyn's interior world, her fears, her sexuality, her memories. It's quite a journey and one well worth taking, not only for its insights but also for the beauty and clarity of its poetry.
