Terrific Tale!
I loved the main character, Alice Rose. Her adventures with Sam Clemens were both fun and educational. I learned quite a bit about the time period -- Lasky should be commended for her thorough research!

A REAL page-turner!
A while ago, I was faced with a decision: to read Alice Rose and Sam or another book for a book review. I decided, not really caring, to read Alice Rose and Sam. Now I am so happy that I did so I could tell other people about this great book. You just can't put it down! You learn about Alice Rose's time, too, so this is a simply marvelous book to read.

Great fun!
This novel is great fun. Alice Rose - never simply Alice - is a dynamic lead character who treads a narrow path between defying her era's gender roles and wanting nothing more than to go to Boston and be like her refined, petticoated cousins. Sam Clemens plays a supporting part, but does so memorably; his outrageous stories first land him a job on the paper, and then drive him out of town. Through the character of a Chinese immigrant, Lasky shows the reader the virulent racism of the time. Some readers may be put off by the novel's attitudes toward religion. Both Alice Rose and Sam rail against quotation-mark Christians, the sort who wear the name but do not live by the principles they espouse. However, both, also speak favorably of people they have known who have lived up to the name. The books only real flaw is a climax that may leave readers wondering for a moment just what has happened. The confusion is cleared up quickly, however. An author's note at the end describes the historical elements of the book and explains which are fact-based and which are totally fictional. All in all, an appealling heroine, the irrepressible Sam Clemens, and an exciting plot make this an excellent choice.

What to Do When You're Not Fishing
If you can't get to the stream, river, lake or ocean to angle for the fish of your choice, this book is a great way to pass the time. There isn't an angler alive who wouldn't enjoy spending a few hours (or days) in the camps, cabins and dens shown in this book. If you love to collect fishing related items, the book will be a true delight. Buy it. Read it cover to cover. Then put it in handy place to pull out when time and circumstance don't permit a trip to your favorite waters with rod and reel.

Praise from The Washington Post
In its syndicated "Gift Ideas" column for Dec. 11, 2000, Washington Post reviewer Annie Groer wrote: "For those whose motto is 'I'd rather be fishing,' THE ANGLER'S LIFE: COLLECTING AND TRADITIONS should not be the one that got away. Author Laurence Sheehan and photographer William Stites have created a paean to the art and artifacts of piscatorial endeavor....This book could make you grab your rod and waders and head for the nearest stream."

The Angler's Life: Collecting and Traditions
My husband and I received a copy of "The Angler's Life" as a present, and we just love it. If there is a fisherman in your life, this is a must-have gift. When this talented team produced "Living With Dogs", another title I love, I spent hours scouring flea markets for dog art, dog bronzes and dog plaques---I even got a dog! Now with "The Angler's Life", I find myself scouring flea markets for fishing signs, fishing creel baskets, fishing postcards and lures. The decorating ideas for displaying fishing paraphernalia in the book are endless, and aesthetically pleasing. My husband, who fly fishes in the Gulf of Mexico, keeps it on top of his book stack for easy access.

Great book!
This was a great book! I really enjoyed the mystery and romance yet many of the spiritual things in the book meant a lot to me too because they reminded me of things I have experienced, even though I know it is supposed to be fiction. When we believe, we see the wonders and miracles that happen all around us. I have a thing with my guardian angels and pennies. I can hardly wait for the next book, "Heaven on Earth" by Ms Diamond. It sounds like a winner, too.

Universal Appeal
This novel is truly rivoting; I had a hard time putting it down! It appeals to all levels of education and socioeconomic backgrounds. The universal conflict between good and evil is presented in a way which is educational and inspiring. The "universal truths" which are incorporated in the plot are accurate yet engaging. I highly recommend this book to anyone trying to see "the bigger picture." I look forward to future books by Kathy Diamond!

Must Read
This book was a page-turner from start to finish! The events were timely and the fast-paced plot kept you guessing. The characters were fleshed out and believable. I was rooting for the "good guys" throughout the novel.

Even though this book was a work of fiction, the author thoroughly researched her subject matter and was very knowledgeable about psychic phenomenon and spiritual intervention. I can actually say I became a believer after reading this book. I look forward to more from this author in future.

Perfect Combo of Information and Emotion
Too often, books written by professionals on mentall illnesses, particularly eating disorders, are harsh and technical. One could easily get lost in the psychiatric jargon and cold symptomology. However, Zerbe shines in this volume that welcomes patients, professionals, and laypersons alike. Her compassion for her troubled clients is obvious, as is her enlightened knowledge of her subject. I recommend this book to anyone who wishes to gain a better understanding of this growing epidemic.

The Body Betrayed
The Body Betrayed is an outstanding book! Kathryn J. Zerbe writes with much knowledge and compassion about the many complicated aspects of the different disorders, and devotes a lot of time to the discussion of dually-diagnosed patients. She gives careful analysis to the varied influences that effect the onset of these illnesses, and shares some of the real life experiences from her treatment facility. This is a very detailed, but readable book for patients, family, friends, clinicians, and anyone wanting to know more about eating disorders.

Compelling, intelligent and complex
This book might not be your best first introduction to eating disorders, but if you are somewhat familiar with the subject, Kathryn J. Zerbe adds tons of new insights.

Especially helpful are the sections on eating disorders accompanied by other psychiatric problems, and the sections on the relationships between the mother/daughter and the father/daughter in connection to developing eating disorders.

The writing is on a fairly high and intelligent level, but Zerbe never becomes caught up in psycho mumbo-jumbo that is beyond the scope of a lay person.

book of hope for the storms of life
How can one thank an author they have never met face to face that has helped you get through a storm of life? While volunteering at Ground Zero as a Red Cross nurse, I was given this book of hope while I was mentally overloaded and feeling everyones pain in a real physical way. This book soothes the soul and if one will let it, it can start the healing process. I have brought out this small book many times as the wounds keep opening. I have found peace, and comfort.I recommend this book to be bought and given to any that are going through any kind of a personal "storm" whether it be emotional, physical, or spiritual.
As you give this gift, whisper a prayer for the miracles that will take place. Thank you Cecil Kemp for the healing words. I am writing this with tears in my eyes and cheecks as I think of my time at ground zero and being introduced with your book of healing. May you go with God.

A Book Of Hope For The Storms Of Life
My son and the author of this book, wrote this book to help give me comfort after my husband and Cecil, Jr.'s dad passed away. I was going through a hard time coping with the loss of my husband of 49 years. Not only did this book help me understand God has a plan for our life, but in death he helps us to understand by learning to trust in Him. We will have storms in our life, but there is hope. This book was inspirational.

A Book Of Hope For The Storms Of Life
Cecil Kemp, Jr. was a student of mine. After reading this book, I felt the information contained in it was invaluable. Cecil Kemp, Jr. is an excellent author, who relates well to others in coping with the trials of life.

This Book Rocks The House
I'm 15 and I still like Goosebumps. How to Kill a Monster was the first Goosebumps book I've read in a while. The book was so cool. It's about Gretchen and her stepbrother Clark, where they have to stay with their whacko grandparents in "Mud Town". Later in the book, they both discover a monster living there and they must find a way to kill it, before it gets them....

Read this book
I read the book How to Kill a Monster by R.L. Stine. It was a very interesting book because it had a lot of twists in it that you wouldn't expect. I liked the part when the monster was chasing the kids and when the kids tried to kill the monster. I would suggest this book to anyone who likes mysteries.

THIS BOOK ROCKS!
This book is so awesome! But, still, I don't think anyone would leave to get help that they will never get. Back to how awesome this book was. If you liked "Welcome To dead House" alot, you will not like this one. It is NOTHING like "Welcome To Dead House", so, don't buy it, if you liked Book #1. Also, I liked the names of the charactors. Gretchen, Clark, I've barely ever heard those names, but now I think they're cool names. So, again, THIS BOOK ROCKS!

How To Beat Heart Disease - 5 Star Review from Moscow
Having had several of my family members undergo treatment from coronary artery disease, I have always wanted to enhance my understanding of what heart disease entails and what can be done about it. This is the best book on heart disease for the layperson ... excellent illustrations, very clear explanations, and alot of hope.

Thanks Dr. Sauvage. What you have accomplished here has really helped us.

... Pavel in Moscow ...

Very informative. Easy to read and understand.
I have finally found a book which can be understood by non-medical people. This book was extremely thorough and accurate. It answered all my questions on heart disease and heart health. The Better Life Diet looks like a winner. This is the book to buy on Heart Disease.

Valuable insight into personal health and well-being
A superb blend of detailed medical information and everyday ways to improve your own health, You Can Beat Heart Disease offers a rare and illuminating glimpse of the inner workings of the often monolithic, sometimes frightening world of modern medicine. With a writing style directed toward the common reader, Dr. Sauvage imparts his years of knowledge and experience in a sincere and comprehensive manner, simultaneously conveying the in-depth technical aspects of treating heart disease and communicating guidelines for prevention. An engrossing read for anyone interested or concerned with avoiding the risks of this ailment.

A Mystery Mix
Double Trouble Squared is a great mystery about the Starbuck twins, their ability to use telepathy with each other and their interest in Sherlock Holmes. Liberty and July, twins, a boy and girl, born on the Fourth of July, hence the names, and their little sisters, the twins Charley and Molly, have long been able to telepath, communicate with thought, instead of words. In the recent weeks surrounding their move to London, mysterious things are happening with their telepathy. Echoes, sad, but not frightening, and static are begining to interupt their communication. The children must unravel the mystery, leadin them into fooggy London, wodded Sussex, the Tower of London, Stratford upon Frustration and finally back to their house at Devonshire Mews. It is a wonderful, engrossing, but not at all scary mystery mixing twins, Sherlock Holmes and Arthur Conan Doyle, and London in a splendid mix. This book about the Starbuck family will make you want more.

Well Done--A Great Mystery/Thriller!
With the first book in her Starbuck Family Adventure Series, Kathryn Lasky will enchant you with chilling mystery, laugh-out-loud humor, and a setting of anyone's dreams.Zany characters, an unpublished work, a crack in the cieling, and many more small aspects make up this story of courage, mystery, and even some Sherlock....

A Book to Be Read Over and Over Again
I am into Double Trouble Squared for the 3rd time and still love it. I recommend this book for anyone interested in Sherlock Holmes, twins (twinology) or if you just want to read a great book. Liberty and July are so life-like, and if you know twins, like me, you will notice the similarities! READ THIS BOOK--interesting for all ages.

Okay
I read this book with my teacher and classmates. I would, first of all, reccomend this book to teachers to read with their class, because it is a play, and it is fun to read with a lot of children. There are a lot of things we can learn from the book. Except an occasional swear word ( this is the reason I only gave the book 4 stars), It is a very good book.

The book is about a family who was very poor. Some of the very important characters are: Mama- who is a very smart person, who counts every penny papa (her husband) brings home from work. Katrien- one of Mama's daughters whose dream is to become a writer when she grows up. Lars, Christine, & Dagmar- Mama's other children. Jenny, Sigrid, & Trina- Mama's sisters. Uncle Chris- Moma's brother, who is also the "head" of the family. Mr.Thorkleson- Trina's husband to be. These I think are the most important characters in the book.

It is kind of hard to understand at first, but you'll get get used to it. Happy Reading!

A fellow author reviews this book
I purchased this to look at because I was writing about another fascinating "Mama." I forgot what a wonderful story it is. It's about an era most of us have forgotten or never knew. I loved it, as I loved the movie which saw when I was quite young. It is a touching story of the influence this woman had on her family. We should all have this kind of mother. Too bad we don't. Read "Dancing in the Dark: Things My Mother Never Told Me" and you will find the story of an entirely different mother.

hearth and home in a New Land
Kathryn Forbes' "I Remember Mama" is a classic tale of Norwegian newcomers on the west coast, which became a long-running, highly popular tv series as well as a movie. The central figure is the wise, loving, enduring matriarch of the clan. Supremely happy in her new home, she proudly says, "I am a San Franciscan." Surrounded by sisters and cousins and other relatives from the old country, as so many immigrant families were at that time, she raises her own brood in changing times.

The book portrays family unity, love and laughter rising above hardships. Children will enjoy this book as much as adult readers, as it speaks to the best in immigrant experience.
