Better than the best-sellers
After being disappointed by several best-selling books, a friend recommended this book to me. I so glad she did. Finally a book worth the time it takes to read it. So I'm here to spread the word and hopefully more people will find this gem of a book. Every character is well drawn and you feel like you know each one. Ms. Larrabee has a gift and I look forward to her next book.

Modern Man Struggling to be a Hero
A charmingly simple story with complex layers. The male point of view is refreshing and captivating. I loved the descriptions of the rural settings and the relationship between Harley and Sonia. Sonia prompted her husband to do the right thing even when that action might be against her interests. I especially found the ending provocative; who are the saviors in our lives?

Loved it!
I'm not much of a fiction fan, but I may be a convert after reading An Everyday Savior, by K. Larrabee! I fell in love with the characters, and found myself, at the end of the book, having the same pit-of-the-stomach feeling we all get when we watch loved ones drive away after a lovely bonding time together.
The characters quickly became REAL to me, and their feelings/realities so deftly described by Ms Larrabee that I found myself fully understanding and empathizing with situations that are, personally, foreign to me! This is surely the mark of a talented writer.

The Wonderful World of "Guardians of Ga'hoole:The Capture"
My 8 year old daughter and I read it every night. She would read a chapter out loud then I'd read one. We had a great time with this book and were sorry to see it end. We can't wait for book two to see what Soren and friends do next.

Great Book
If your looking for a great book for kids to read I would tell you to get this book. From the first page to the last you will be totally hooked, and will not be able to put it down. Can't wait till book 2 comes out.

The Guardians of Ga'Hoole; The Capture
Loved the book. An imaginative plot filled with great characters -owls of all types. It's the kind of book, like the Narnia series, that is written for kids, but is absorbing to adults as well. Can't wait to find out what happens in the next book. May there be many more.

Laura Charlotte
Laura Charlotte is an amazing children's story about the love of a family throughout generations. Laura's mother tells her about her favorite childhood memory and the history of her stuffed elephant, Charlotte. This book has been a favorite in my family and gives a sense of love to the reader.

Still a Family Favorite
On January 28, 1999 I wrote the review of Laura Charlotte, and more than a year later it is still a favorite bedtime story of my, now almost 7 year old, daughter. It is one that my husband and I never tire of reading to her, and as any parent of a small child knows, THAT is a great recommendation in itself!

Can't beat it for good old favorites
Some of the directions were a bit complicated to follow, or didn't match what I knew the recipies to be. However, for the most part, this is right out of my memories of my great Nana!

Good basic guide to traditional Jewish cooking.
Along with The Joy of Cooking for everyday basic cooking, I learned to prepare tradiditional Ashkenazic (Eastern European) Jewish dishes from Love and Knishes when it was first published 40 years ago when I was a newly-wed. The recipes and preparation instructions in Love and Knishes are simple, the ingredients are usually staples and the commentary is very funny, even if now viewed as, perhaps, stereotypical. The recipes are easily adaptable to today's guidelines to healthier (lower fat content) guidelines. I'm giving this as a gift to my soon to be new daughter-in-law. If your mom didn't keep kosher or prepare traditional dishes for holidays, sabbath etc. then Love and Knishes is a good place to start learning.

The all-time masterpiece of Eastern European Jewish cooking
Love and Knishes is the original, the all-time classic, the true source of the taste of Jewish cooking handed down from our grandparents. It is the first Jewish cooking book you need, and if you buy ten more you will still be using this one to make your carrot tzimmes with matzo meal flour knaidel for passover seder. Not incidentally, Sara Kasdan brought to the book a distinctive, lively, engaging voice that makes for an eminently readable cookbook. Now, if they would just bring it out again in hardcover, like the original . . .

Another wonderful firefighter book
Dylan and Beth have been nemeses forever. Furthermore, whereas Dylan delights in the spirit of the season, Beth tries to remain aloof, because of unspeakable heartbreak in her past that makes Christmas very painful.

When their attraction becomes undeniable, Dylan and Beth must decide whether it is purely lust or something to build a future on, and Beth, especially, must make a decision that could destroy everything.

Shay's firefighter books are simply wonderful, but we never lose sight of the characters, who remain the central point of her stories.

An excellent book
This was was an extremely emotionally satisfying book. I loved all the characters, and it helped that I had read the first book in the series, Feel the Heat. I really sympathized with Beth and what she has gone through over the years and her chemistry with Dylan was wonderful.

Find me a man like Dylan O'Rourke!
What a terrific book! Both the hero and heroine are multidimensional and realistically portrayed.Emotions run high when reading this book. The reader finds her/himself cheering alternately between Dylan and Beth as they ride the roller coaster of love. The dilemna at the end of the book is one that intellectual, modern day women can really empathize with as they are forced to choose between their heads or their hearts. What a wonderful way to escape by reading any book by Kathryn Shay, particularly this one! Enjoy!

An Excellent Medical Transcription Reference
Being in the medical transcription field having to look up new words and decipher dialects, this is one book every transcriptionist should have. To look up a word by disease and/or symptom is a lot faster than a flashlight without batteries in the dark! I highly recommend this book to medical transcriptionists whether a beginner, intermediate or experienced one.

Medical Phrase Index
This latest revision - 4th edition (10/15/01) is even easier to use and more comprehensive (250,000+ entries) than previously. This is truly THE medical phrase resource. Nothing else comes close! We use it dozens of times a day.

Required MT resource
When one hears one word in a phrase but is not sure of others, this resource is invaluable. Of all my resources for medical transcription, this is one of the few I use every day. Can't live without it.

Destined to become a bedtime classic!
Have you memorized Goodnight Moon? I have. And I read Owl Moon until I could hoot with the best of them too. But, beautiful as these books are, I was looking for something else to suggest when my two daughters (ages 6 and 2) screamed, "Goodnight Moon!" for the hundredth time. I found it. When Moon Fell Down is the perfect rhyming bedtime story. In lovely prose:

"The rye smelled sweet; the night winds whirled, circling moon in a misty wreath; And he gazed in awe at the wonderous world, the sky above and the earth beneath . . ."

When Moon Fell Down tells what would happen if the moon came down to earth one night. What would he see, and how would he see it? Sometimes soothing, sometimes surprising, this book's melodic text and dreamy artwork brings a smile to my children's faces and a tear to my eye.

Excellent!
When Moon Fell Down is one of the most lyrical books I've read lately. Smith's words have a musical quality about them, and when you read them out loud, they give satisfaction both to the tongue and to the ear. There's also a wonderful playfulness to the story. This one is going to be a classic.

A Lovely Bedtime Adventure.....
"When moon fell down one night.../Fell upon a farmer's lawn,/Rolled about in sheer delight/On fields he'd only shined upon." So begins Linda Smith's lovely picture book about a night the moon fell to earth. Having seen everything from only above for so long, the moon is eager to see the world from another vantage point. "He'd never seen the trunks of trees/Or blades below the farmer's plow./Moon didn't know a horse had knees,/But things were strangely sideways now." Moon meets up with a friendly cow and travels the night away on a delightful adventure through this small farming town, until at dawn a perturbed farmer sends both back where they belong. "Moon! he cried. This isn't right!/Cow, how dare you roam!/A moon belongs in the sky at night,/And a cow belongs at home."..... Ms Smith's evocative, rhyming text is soft, soothing and full of imagery and magic and beautifully complemented by Kathryn Brown's subdued, detailed and expressive artwork. Together, they've authored a charming bedtime story the entire family will share and enjoy, again and again. Perfect for youngsters 3-7, When Moon Fell Down is a treasure and a book that's sure to become a classic in the years ahead.

horrifically sexy read, enticing
this book was full of sex, suspense, and action. It was also a very sad story, especially when maria loses her true love, gregor. Some parts of the story can be a bit boring, especially the part of rebecca's former lover eric chases her through Romania to find her. However, the plot still stays fast-paced and alive, so it's a good read, and makes up for it. It's also good that the author made this take place in Romania, the same place where bram stoker's dracula takes place. We get to learn a lot about the nazis and vampires beacuse it's in the same place where the greatest of horror stories and vampire stories ever became published, so it's good it took place in romania. I learned that the drinking of human blood isn't purely evil, but it's a way for the undead to express their love in allusion to sexuality. Lastly, the ending is a bit elusive and ambiguous, so you're left for yourself to decide what happens at the very end. An evasive ending can be more enticing and the mysteriousness can be illuminating. Overall, an excellant, darkly gruesome, wonderfully sexy read!

One of the Best Vampire Novels I Have Ever Read
While fleeing Nazis in prewar Berlin, two Americans (Richard Anderson and Rebecca Bittan) are invited to seek refuge in a Romanian castle owned by Countess Maria Viroslav and her husband, Count Alexander Viroslav. (The latter two are vampires.) Neither Richard nor Rebecca are ready for what will come next: a fierce double play of seduction to create two more vampires. And the count and countess certainly have no limits to how far they will go sexually. Homophobics beware.

I read "The Kiss" way back in high school ('96 or '97), and it's still one of my absolute favorites. If you like vampires, sex, and the 1930s, then I highly recommend you read this book. You won't be disappointed. Another good vampire book is "Dark Dance" by Tanith Lee, the first in its series, followed by two others: "Personal Darkness" and "Darkness, I".

This book is so Intoxicating, I coudn't wait to buy it!
It drives U insane with lustful inquiries and steals the moment U R hidin in it. The imagination creates this wonderful masterpiece. It would make a great Movie, if only The movies were worthy of such seducing roles to make it as good as the book. I can't wait to read it again.

A New Way to Perceive the Lives of the Artists
Most people can name at least a couple famous artists and cite some examples of their best-known works. But have you ever wondered what's really behind all that painting, sculpting, and drawing? Kathleen Krull's book Lives of the Artists: Masterpieces, Messes (and What the Neighbors Thought) gives an in-depth view into the humor, tragedy, and mystery in twenty artists' lives, as well as the gossip inspired by their peculiar lifestyles. Carefully researched, this humorous biography travels throughout the centuries, offering basic facts along with interesting tidbits and anecdotes about artists from Leonardo Da Vinci to Georgia O'Keeffe and beyond. It also includes interesting backround information behind each one's artistic works as well as creative and eye-catching illustrations by Kathryn Hewitt. This entertaining book allows readers to get to know the world's greatest artists and their artworks through each one's unique and engaging story.
The book is well organized into chapters each focusing on the life of one individual artist. The author skillfully and humorously connects information about artists' personalities, preferences, and lifestyles with how they affected their most well known artworks. It recreates each one's position in history, telling how the artists were seen by the general population in their day, or even their reputation among curious or superstitious neighbors. Readers will be able to see for themselves that famous artists were real people who did mess up once in a while. The author explains a time when Leonardo Da Vinci decided to try out a new painting method, saying, "The technique resulted in disaster...(he hadn't read all the way through to the part that said "don't try this on walls")."
The author's voice helps compliment the content in several ways. Kathleen Krull's words strike a tone that is warm, chatty, and friendly, making you feel as if she were talking with you in the same room. Her gossip extends not only to the basic facts but also to many specific details abou the artists' lives. Showing the passion and tragedy in his life, she remarks about the artist Vincent van Gogh,"Van Gogh imposed a condition of near starvation on himself and would go for days without food so he could afford to buy art supplies." In addition, every sarcastic or humorous comment made on the part on the author helps readers to feel they are getting to know an actual person rather than a cold, vague historical figure.
The author also ensured that the book would appeal to an audience of both children and adults. The words and explanations are engaging and humorous and immediately capture your interest, yet the vocabularly is not too difficult for children. The full-page color illustrations are vivid, clever, and bring to life each artist for the young and old alike. Because the book gives more information about each artist than is generally known, it is sure to benefit and interest a wide range of audiences.
Readers of all ages will definitely become hooked on this fact-filled and entertaining biography. Lives of the Artists: Masterpieces, Messes (and What the Neighbors Thought) retells the one of a kind stories of each of the world's most famous artists, blending historical facts with humor and captivating details. Most importantly it allows readers to recognize each individual artist through an attractive mix of their achievements, lives, and unique personalities.

My six year old and I love this book!
Reading a chapter from this book has become a bedtime ritual for my daughter and me. My daughter happens to be very interested in art and this book gives her an idea of what it's like to actually be an artist. Both the illustrations and text bring these artists to life more than any other childrens or adult book I have ever seen. This is one of the few books that we both enjoy reading over and over again. I wish the authors would do another volume of artists. Meanwhile I'm ordering another book by this author/illustrator combination.

An Amazing Adventure into the Private Lives of Artists
This book would make an outstanding addition to the reading list of any art lover. If you love finding out the gossipy trivia about some well-known and should-be-well-known artists, that this is the book you MUST buy. Really gorgeous illustrations by a fantastically talented artist herself, Kathryn Hewitt

NOT A STEAK LOVER and LOVED THIS COOKBOOK
This cookbook took away my fear of cooking red-meat. I especially loved the accompaniments, mushroom strudel, cowboy beans, steakhouse spinach, and tomato corn salsa. I originally purchased this book for my husband, but I ended up loving it myself! This is the most informative book on buying, and cooking steak.

Don't be afraid of stinky cheese...
This book is filled with wonderful recipes. Last week I made the Strip Steaks with Spanish Cheese Sauce. It is absolutely delicious. The Calabres cheese is pungent, but it makes a wonderful sauce for this steak, so don't be afraid to try it.

Loved this cookbook!
My family loved this cookbook!

From Baked Steak to Pot Roast, learn how to cook beef in ways /everyone/ will love. This book does not 'talk down' to you like other 'cookbooks,' but lays out its recipes in a straightforward 'no nonsense' fashion. Like the title suggests, this book is strictly beef, but it covers all different kinds of steak and tells you how to cook it best in plain, 'no nonsense' language. In the back are several scrumptious sounding desserts! I can't wait to try.

This book is a must for anyone who wants to learn to do steak right!
