Possibilities

A woman of strength, determination, and courage.
This a book I could not put down. It was capitivating and moving. Nora is a woman who has endured alot and has overcome many obstacles. From growing up in an orphange, being abused as a child, and having to work twice as hard to get everything that life had to offer her. She turned out to be a woman of strength. The author has a way of drawing you into the character's life; when she was hurting or confused so where you. When she finally fell in love with Blake; you were her cheerleading section. This book shows you that anything is Possible. I am on pins and needles to find out what happens next in Book 2. What will happen to Nora next? What about her relationship with Blake? Is there a future?

Wonderful New Author!!!!
I was delighted to find this book by a new author who shows talent in bringing characters and places alive. Set in Detroit, Cincinnati, and London, Ky in the 1960's, the author brings these places alive with accurate depictions. I quickly identified with Nora, a young orphan who had to face life after growing up feeling rejected and ugly. She fears intimacy, certain that life will deal her only more pain. But meeting up with Blake, a rich, good looking playboy throws a hitch in her plans to face life alone. As Nora gets involved with other people and their problems, she finds her life opening up. But just like real life, which has its rocky patches, Nora's life is not all smooth. How she deals with her problems and unexpected complications makes for a heart warming story.
This is a wonderful story that touched my heart and made me feel there ARE "Possibilities" out there for each of us. It is a book you find hard to put down with its wonderful story line, detail, and roller coaster of emotions. The book is to be continued and I can't wait for the second book to come out to learn what happens with Nora and Blake.

Nora's modesty was enduring.
Dear Janet,

I received your book Thursday, and started reading it immediately. It was
so good that I had a hard time putting it down. I finished it last night, and
am looking forward to the next book, and next one, and next one.

Here are a few things that I particularly liked about your novel:

·The list of characters in the front of the book.
·Your cast of characters were believable.
·The story points to higher morals than going along with the crowd.
·There was a discreet message that setting goals is important to success.
·I agree that regardless of how bad a persons raising is, they can rise above it.
·Frugality - this generation wants everything now, unlike Nora.
·Modesty - Nora's modesty was enduring.

It is true that our choices have consequences, and seemingly small things
have far reaching impact. Though you did not emphasize God's hand in
the lives of the characters, it was easy to perceive. For instance we are
blessed with abundance, so we can bless others, as in the case of Nora,
and her friends at the law firm, helping the orphanage.

No doubt the impact that Beth's words had upon young Nora, molded
her character. Mothers, teachers, and anyone working with children, need
to reflect upon how their words are used, and what impact they will have
on impressionable young children.

If I really took time to reflect on it, I could get many more insights out of
"Possibilities", but these are the ones that jumped out at me.

Of course, I'm telling all my friends about your book, so get on the stick
and finish the next sequel, and quit leaving me hanging.

God Bless,

Bonnie P.

The Values-Based Safety Process: Improving Your Safety Cultu
I reviewed this book along with four others by other BBS consultant authors and I find this to be the best. Terry McSween has written a very usable book complete with forms, checklists. and essential elements necessary for doing your own process, if you are intending to anyway. I also found the section on safety incentives to be very helpful and neccessary. One is likely to do a poor BBS implementation unless they address the important organizational interface between the popular but controversial safety rewards programs and a new BBS effort. McSween's appreciation for manufacturing organizational cultures seems to me to be on the mark.

The Values-Based Safety Process - a must read for executives
Dr. Terry McSween has written "The Values-Based Safety Process" what many have described as the "most practical book on how to actually implement behavioral-based safety and troubleshoot organizational and system problems within an organization". This book is an essential working reference for every executive, manager, supervisor and safety professional responsible for for helping protect employees, the environment, and property. A very positive review of the book was published in the July 2001 issue of Professional Safety.

This book can help you get a proper perspective of how Behavior-based safety can be an additional element (but not a replacement for) a fundamentally sound total loss control program to protect people, the environment and property.

Larry Bailey, CSP

A concise and practical guide for behavior-based safety
Dr. Terry McSween has produced a concise and practical guide for implementing a behavior-based safety system within any organization. This book was the best book on behavioral safety that I have ever read. This book is easy to read and to understand, and most of all, easy to set into action in the work environment.

A practical and useful book!
This book is a most practical and useful guide for those responsible for serving customers by telephone. As a trainer in the field of customer service skills, I have added this book to the workshop entitled "Customer-focused Telephone Skills." Attendees have rated it as terrific source of information and encourage others to tap into the many tips and techniques offered in this publication.

If you want your call center to be successful, start here.
I believe this book is a 'must read' for every person who answers a telephone, and essential for call center managers. Having managed a call center and now in the call center consulting field, I am very grateful to Terry for taking her time and talent to write what I consider an invaluable training resource. If you want your call center to be successful, this is where to start.

A wonderful handbook for training your employees
Managers remain on the lookout for training materials that will help improve employee performance. Those who have been searching for a telephone training manual can stop here. Using a folksy approach, 1-800-Courtesy addresses the major telephone blunders we're familiar with--and tells how to overcome them. One of the book's most helpful sections explains the DISC system for identifying varied personality styles, and offers advice on how to deal with them over the phone. 1-800-Courtesy is definitely current, giving counsel about home offices, cell phones, voice mail, and other communication trends. This slim volume is a great investment for any organization that wants to put on "a new voice"--which many places sorely need.

An American Obsession: Science, Medicine, and Homosexuality in Modern Society
Published in Hardcover by University of Chicago Press (1999)
Author: Jennifer Terry
Amazon base price: $75.00

Couldn't put it down!
This book explores the truly fascinating 20th century story of origin and development of the so-called unbiased medical/scientific investigation of homosexuality and how it often functioned to condemn homosexuality, working people, and people of color while advocating heterosexuality (defined as not homosexual). The author records how this binary view of sexuality rose to national preeminence as aided by experts, monopolist foundations and national politicians, like McCarthy, as well as a very human recounting of the struggles of those subjected to it. In the end, the author asks whether the medical/scientific investigation should continue? However, even Freud considered heterosexuality a learned behavior. Isn't the question, who is teaching and why? While there have been some tantalizing starts into these questions, such as John D'Emilio's Making Trouble, there is still much to be learned about how capitalism has destroyed the family; what monopolist, university, and government regulators have done about it; and, how lesbian and gay organizations have succumbed to the ideas of these regulators in the current campaign for gay marriage, see for example Michael Warner's The Trouble with Normal.

an american obsession
An excellent piece of scholarship, Jennifer Terry's outstanding book on the evolution of scientific thinking about homosexuality is the first to provide a synoptic view of this large and important subject.

an american obsession
With insight and humor, Jennifer Terry chronicles the past two centuries' efforts by science and society to classify and adjudicate our myriad ways to experience love, desire, and pleasure. An important book that raises many new questions and casts new light on the old ones.

Superb!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This manual offers everyone an eye opening experience. Y2K is coming and there is no getting around it, but the authors of this book have simply gotten it together! They offer practical advice to a possible crisis. They are not extremists! This book is filled with solutions to problems that could occur with or without the possible effects of Y2K. I didn't realize this until I read this book. I believe this book is your best tool to keep on hand for all your household needs Y2K or not.

A MUST HAVE TOOL!
This is a great resource not only for Y2K preparation, but for use in the future. I recently was married and quickly realized I wasn't really preparing for myself any more I have to prepare for my now wife. I really was glad to come across this book and be able to use it. It covers all topics thoroughly and it gives you confidence. We are ready...are you? If not, definately get a copy of this book / manual. You won't be disappointed.

Wonderful
My husband and I read this book and found it to be the most helpful resource available. I, personally, loved the tear out shopping guide. When I am out doing errands, I pull my list out and check it over to purchase anything on the list I might need. It has been a great tool. My husband likes the detail on all the "manly" stuff. Like the electrical and gas service chapters. He plans on using this as a reference tool for a long time. We will be prepared!

A great addition to the fly fishing library.
This is an excellent book on blueguill fly fishing. There was only one bit of bad information in the whole book. The author makes the assertion that graphite rods are a far superior fly rod. This is a useless statement as it is presented. The bamboo rod could just as easily have this claim made for it by someone who is partial to that type of rod. This type of a statement is a sore spot for me, especially when no supporting data is provided.

Overall the book covers all situations and presents some classic and new bluegill fly patterns.

Informative and entertaining
This book was found to be both informative and entertaining. The many techniques explainined help even the experienced bluegill fishermen catch more fish. The plates showing different bluegill fly patterns are all beautifully presented. The autors are great story tellers too.

Haven't read it.
Mr. Wilson is my history teacher and I haven't really read the book; but I don't have to. I think this book is really informative, and the pictures are pretty cool looking. You did an awesome job, Mr. Wilson. Keep it up.

The Bromeliad Trilogy: Truckers - Diggers - Wings

Pratchett's best.
I've never been a huge Pratchett fan. His science fiction books are good enough if I don't have anything else on my list although quite frankly I enjoy paging through this internet Pratchett annotations site. The late Douglas Adams's works are snappier and less dated--I ame in awe of Adams's devastation of heavy metal music in a chapter or two, but Pratchett took rather longer to slam a genre or two in _Soul Music_.

Except for the _Bromeliad Trilogy_ where in 400 pages of gentle humor Pratchett shows that you don't need to go into outer space to create a new world. It's a story of nomes, who are four inches tall but move ten times as fast as humans. Their deity is Arnold Bros.(1905) because that's what it says on the store window outside where they live. We find out they have a sort of Bible(quotes make headers for the chapter) and also try to discover signs from Arnold Bros. (one says "If You Do Not See What You Require, Please Ask.")

But one day they find out the store(which some sects think encompass the whole world) is about to be demolished, and this takes us on a journey where everyday human conveniences are objects of wonder. Part of the fun of reading is to see how soon on the page you can figure out the object described. The other part is watching their faith in Arnold Bros. buffeted as they learn about humans, our language and conventions we take for granted, technology, and nature in Diggers(another dramatic escape at the end) before a climactic meeting with Grandson Richard, 39, in Wings.

I can't say this is indicative of Pratchett's work, but it is certainly my clear favorite at about the same length as a Discworld novel with at least as much drama and humor.

Brilliantly funny read
This is the first Pratchett book I have ever read. It has sat on my shelf for 10 years, & I finally read it. I can't believe I waited so long. It was soooo funny. I never wanted to put it down, or to stop reading it. I wish that he had continued his tales of the nomes. I was just smiling so much as I read the book. How the simple things in life can be so easily twisted around & taken for their face value is so amusing. If you like humor with a good story, then this is the book for you. It is supposed to be a childrens story, but I find that to be far from the truth. It is a book for everyone of every age.

Little people get into big trouble, and out again.
Unknown to the humans, they share the Earth with another intelligent race, the nomes. The reason they don't know about the nomes is that they are four inches tall, and live at a pace ten times that of humans. This is the story of Masklin, and other heroic nomes who lead their people out of the dangerous world of humans, in search of their home. In the course of this story the overcome great obstacles, all with wit and humor.

This book is actually a collection of three book: Truckers, Diggers and Wings. The stories showcase Terry Pratchett's wit and humor, his ability to examine the human experience from a very different viewpoint. The action is gripping, and the humor outrageous. I highly recommend this book.

The Longaberger Consultant and Bentley's Guide
I am a Longaberger consultant and have every Bentley's Guide ever published, including an autographed first copy. It is a great help in promoting the value of our products (the fact that they appreciate, not depreciate)! It has been of great help in increasing insurance coverage, not only for myself, but also for customers. I had one customer who lost items in a fire; we used the guide for the replacement value for the insurance company. I now have customers who purchase their own Guide.

The Bentley Collection Guide 8th Edition : The reference too
This was a great book. I wish that I had the book earlier, when I first started collecting Longaberger Baskets. This is a very good reference book I will use for years to come.

THE Book for Longaberger Collectors
This is the book to use to evaluate your Longaberger collection or to help evaluate a basket before you buy. A must for any collector that trades on the secondary market! The book is divided into sections by basket type and includes an index for quick referencing. Take it along to the next basket auction you attend!

I laughed until I couldn't breathe...
Remember the Python routine about a "killer joke?"

This book came close to being a collection of such jokes. Nearly every story made me, and several of my friends, laugh until we almost couldn't breathe.

Over twenty five years later, it still has the same effect.

(GET THIS BOOK BACK IN PRINT!)

Buy and destroy
I had hoped that civilized society had seen the last of Dr. Fegg's nasty little pamphlet. This is a work a certified lunatic who is now a depleted geriatric living on the outskirts of the Scotish outer Hebrides..do not be fooled!!...the right and kind fellows of the English variety troop, aptly named Monty's Python had no hand in this. The true tale is that of a heartless killer has been trying to ruin the nights sleep of innocent children worldwide with this satanic bedtime treatise. Buy what is left of these books and burn them instantly!

...

Dr. Fegg's Nasty Book for Boys and Girls
I had this book as a child and it was my first introduction to 'Monty Pythonesque' humor. The sheer silliness of it was hilarious. All my friends loved it too. In fact, I believe one of them borrowed it on a permanent basis, without my knowledge, if you know what I mean...nudge, nudge, wink, wink. Anyways, I am now in search of a copy for my young daughter.
