See The Movie "Illtown" w/ Lili Taylor and Michael Rappaport
That movie was based on this book. I know this is probably promoting illiteracy and the ills of television, but if you like independents it's a good one. I haven't read the book. I DO READ quie a bit, but was inspired to check out the book because of the movie. The movie meanders a bit, so be prepared. Sorry I havent read the book yet but when I do I'll come back and report on what I thought

because it's about cocaine ,of course
this book was cool and rad and all that stuff niga i liked it because it was about cocaine

Excellent Resource
This book is full of great information for the dedicated aquarium hobbyist. However, it can be a bit technically taxing for a sit down read or if you are just entering into the hobby. Even still, it is worth the effort to read as it contains priceless information from a well-known expert on fish keeping including practical solutions to keep fish not only alive, but healthy. Read this book and learn how to make your aquarium inhabitants thrive.

A Commonsense Guide to Fish Health
At first glance it is physically not what you would call a big book, (keep in mind not all good things come in big packages), I liked the fact that it was published by Barron's, which would mean plenty of current and new graphics unlike other publishers out there. I was right.

Now to look at the cover for the first time. Nice title "A Commonsense Guide To Fish Health" the title says it all. Unlike most books we have read this one does not dive right in to the problem and then prescribes a miracle cure medicaton. Instead we are lead into the murky waters of fishdom's medical field slowly and intelligently in eight chapters that are very easy to read and provide a lot of insight as well as tried and proved methods of addressing some of the more common and even some of the not so common fish health related problems.

Chapter 1 covers stress and it causes and the importance of the aquarium habitat, wich leads to the next chapter on water quality, a very well step, again emphesizing the importance of the environment of the captive animal over a pound of cure. It is in this chapter that the importance of filters are discussed and water quality parameters are explained.

Chapter 3 then gives us the next thing on platter for good fish health, nutrition. Covering more than just the basics on what to feed, Terry goes on to share a couple of his very own recipies for a home made frozen food. A word of warning from both he and I on this, make sure you do not anger the significant other by using the brand new food processor or blender.

Chapter 4 covers Disease and dissection. Covering such things as equipment and a section on euthanasia, and disease identification. This leads us to chapter 5 wich covers parasites and their treatment. Chapter 6 covers bacterial and fungal infections and their cures. Chapter 7 covers viruses and their prevention with chapter 8 covering miscellanous maladies.

Overall it is a fresh new look at an age old problem(s). With plenty of pictures and graphs.

Conspiracy of Light

Fine book!
Wow, what a book! So much of the time, consciousness and spirituality are presented in such dogmatic and uninteresting language. Well, that has certainly changed with Terry's book. I loved the humor and well thought out process. Not all of the concepts are easily understood no matter who is trying to present them, but Terry has put things together in such an understandable and readable way. I would recomend this book for anyone who wants a better understanding of who we, as human
beings are in the grand scheme of things. Also, what we can do to further ourselves along a natural evolutionary path.Kudos to Terry for a grand adventure for all who would take the time to read this book!

Where Physics and Humor Meet
The perfect book for the neophyte of physics and metaphysical realities. The author leads you through a labyrinth of instruction and humor to create a wonderous experince.
If you have begun to question the level of consciousness that the collective operates on, this book is a must read for you!!
Taking major philosophical principles, comparitive religions and metaphysical practicality, Goodman is able to cram so much information into 140 pages that your head can spin. Only the humor and constant reassusrance that you are walking right along with him makes the spin tolerable, and funny.
Frequently I read books that attempt to convey some of the Universal truths and successfully, though laboriously, achieve that. Goodman has been able to sum up what cannot be explained with simplicity, humor and heart. Bravo!!!!

Corto Maltese
Published in Paperback by NBM Publishing, Inc. (1986)
Authors: Hugo Pratt and Terry Nantier
Amazon base price: $8.95
Average review score:

The most literate character in the comix
Hugo Pratt (1927-1995) attended the Venice Academy of Fine Arts in the late-40's. His career in comics began immediately after graduation, however in 1950 he emigrated to Argentina where he created a number of comic strips including popular cowboy hero Sgt. Kirk. In the '60's after a brief period in London he moved to Milan.

Interest in westerns began to ebb in the '60's and in 1967 Pratt introduced the sea captain Corto Maltese in "Una Ballata del Mare Salato". "The Ballad of the Salt Sea" was about two teenage castaways who fall into the hands of pirates and mercenaries in Melanesia in the early years of WWI. Captain Maltese appears as a mysterious rogue who soon comes to dominate the adventure. The classic Corto traits develop in this story. He is a romantic, with a macho code of honour. His laconic 'cool' disguises an identification with the underdog. Supporting characters are well-developed and villians are motivated by tragic compulsions - with the possible exception of the maniacal Rasputin! Although 'good' triumphs in the end it is with great loss and there is a pervading sense of mystery and tragedy.

In 1970 Pratt started a series of Corto Maltese adventures for the French comic magazine "Pif-Gadget": these were later republished as 11 collections, some of which are not available in English (and European versions are slightly different.) There are: "The Brazilian Eagle" (originally titled 'Tango', 1987), in which Corto meets the mysterious Gold Mouth during Latin American intrigues; "Banana Conga" ('Sous la Signe du Capricorne'), in which further intrigues take him from South America into the Caribbean; there the adventures continue in "Voodoo for the President"('Corto toujours un peu plus loin', 1975); "Corto Maltese in Africa" ('Les Ethiopiques', 1973) finds him in the midst of the struggles of the colonial powers in Africa during WWI; "Corto Maltese - the early Years" ('La Juenesse', 1981) is mostly concerned with the early career of crazy 'Captain' Rasputin; 'Corto Maltese et la Maison d'oree du Samarkand' (1980, No English version) has him travelling to central Asia to rescue Rasputin and find a lost treasure. "Corto Maltese in Siberia" (1980) starts in Shanghai but soon Corto and Rasputin are roaming China and northern Asia in pursuit of a shipment of Czarist gold. "A Midsummer Morning's Dream" ('Les Celtiques', 1971) takes Corto to Ireland, Wales, and Brittany in 4 stories set in the last year of WWI. I know of no English translation for 'Les Helvetiques' (1987), a mystical tale in which Corto meets the expatriate German author Hermann Hesse in Switzerland. "Fable of Venice" (1977) is a tale of intrigue and hermeticism in the early years of Italian Fascism. The last Corto tale published before Pratt's death of cancer in Lausanne was the as-yet untranslated 'Mu' (1988), another mystical story in which Corto discovers the lost Pacific continent. I am informed that there is a story set in the 1936 - 40 Spanish Civil War, but have no information about it.

Pratt's work is defined by character and ideas and contrasts frames full of thoughtful exposition with action sequences devoid of words. His inspiration was Milton Caniff, whose comic strip, "Terry and the Pirates", began as a contemporary (1934) adventure story set in the South Pacific. Caniff was a master of black and white and his signature image was a powerful contrast defined by negative space. Pratt imitated this as well as Caniff's use of broad, powerful brushstrokes. Equally important were Caniff's complex and often tragic characters, his use of pathos, ongoing sub-plots, mysterious and powerful femme-fatales etc. Pratt authored or co-authored many comix besides Corto and it's well worth reading "Indian Summer" and "El Gaucho", historical adventures written by Pratt but with art by Milo Manara.

It's interesting to me to contrast the development of Pratt's Corto and Caniff's Terry, both children of their times. Following his South Seas adventures Terry joins the U.S. Air Force; in continuous syndication until fairly recently he fought in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. Terry is the heroic policeman, a child of the depression sharing his author's disapproval of Communism and disappointment with the '60's generation. Corto is the child of the '60's. Always a free agent, occasionally taking up arms but usually only in self-defense, he is skeptical of 'the establishment': a ronin maintaining a cool pose but compelled by a belief in fair play to take on causes not his own. Always more interested in place and personality than mere loot, Corto's adventures gradually turn into a mystical quest for something greater than wordly treasure.

Don't call it a comic book!
Complex characters, lush atmosphere and subtle plots give the Corto Maltese books far more heft than other "graphic novels." Set during World War I, they tell the adventures of a freebooter and adventurer. Want to know what the Amazon is really like?

Creatine and Other Natural Muscle Boosters

If you don't know this is the book that you need
Finally a book that explains how supplements work. Very easy to read, this book explains in detail how creatine works and how it should be used. There is more truthful supplementation information in this book than I have found in muscle magizines in the past three years. Anyone who wants to try supplements needs to read this book first to get an edge on companies who sell low grade products.

Creatine: Explained
This book was very informative about the good and bad effects of creatine and other muscle enhancers. I think that this is a good book for the serious or not too serious weight lifter. Very clear and straight to the point.

An amazing inspiration
I am in band, and a sax and oboe player, just as a coincidence! A friend of mine, also in band, had lent me the book after I just randomly grabbed it off of her desk during class one day. I asked her what is was about, and she told me that it was one of the best inspirational books she had ever read involving two things we both loved: Music and romance. Me, being a band geek and a sucker for inspirational books, I immediatly took an interest and began reading. And I have got to tell you, this book will suck you into a world unlike one you've ever seen. It takes you into a world seen from Andrew's eyes, a handsome, yet abused tenor sax player in a suffering high school band. He has problems at home on the farm so Andrew sees band as a safe haven. With the arrival of a new band teacher, and the growing crush on the "5-foot, 12-inch" female oboe player, Andrew's life gets better and worse at the same time. The bridge seen kept me on the edge of my seat! This story truly shows how the power of music and trust and teamwork can lead you into a life that does nothing but...well...Crescendo!!

(Crescendo ~ to build intensity; to grow)

A terrific read!
I couldn't put this book down, even though it was written for a younger audience. It may be too mature for the 11- to 13-year-olds. Definitly an inspiring book for high schoolers, especially those in band.

Right on the mark! Where have you guys been?
"The Customer Delight Principle" by Keiningham and Vavra is the missing link to the mystery of why customer satisfaction, which seems like a sound principle, has failed with so many companies. Customer satisfaction has been perceived as a sound principle (and quite frankly - a way of life) for many corporate research and marketing departments for many years. Anyone in the field would have to admit that, while the principle sounds solid, the end results have almost always been less than satisfactory. Perhaps down right poor.

The "Customer Delight Principle" is the first publication that has been bold enough to shoot a hole in past theory and validate true bottom-line, measurable, results. Completing the final lesson in the ultimate goal for a customer oriented operation.

Practicing customer satisfaction techniques in the past can be compared with buying into the Lexus marketing and going out and buying a vehicle without a test drive. Until you know the feel, smell, taste, touch of a principle, and then truly have tested the outcomes, you never know what you are getting into. This book takes you through the test drive, and truly delivers the missing link!

Buy it, read it, create an internal educational project to incorporate this theory into your practices with management. If you do, you'll get a leap on the competition (before they read it).

Sincerely,

Thomas Bell

Note: Thomas Bell is a respected educator having dedicated much of his career advising corporate marketing departments with companies such as Gannett, CitiGroup, RDI Marketing & Research, and BMI.

The Customer Delight Principle
I work in the sanitation industry and boy could the owner of my company as well as all his drivers and helpers could use a good dose of this book. On my companies behalf, I firmly believe and will try to enact some of the basic principles that are discussed in this book. Personally, I have gained a lot of knowledge and when I interact with customers, ( usually to put out fires ), I will benefit by implementing the strategies set forth in this book. Thumbs up!

Strongly recommended for wildlife protection activists.
Defending Our Wildlife Heritage: The Life And Times Of A Special Agent is the autobiographical story of Terry Grosz, a man who worked and struggled for 32 years to protect wildlife in America. Poignant, emotion, filled with the travails of an endless struggle against human greed and carelessness, Defending Our Wildlife Heritage is a fascinating glimpse into the lives of those who labor so that future generations may share in the wonder of America's natural beauty and wildlife. Defending Our Wildlife Heritage is strongly recommended reading for nature enthusiasts, as well as environmental and wildlife protection activists.

Defending Our Wildlife Heritage
I never cease to be amazed at Terry Grosz's books. All the stories in his 3d book describing the inner workings of a U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service Special Agent kept me interested and entertained. His stories were alive and action packed, they allowed me to cry, laugh and be amazed. Furthermore I learned a lot about wildlife (the best time to hunt ducks: Moon of the Duck) and how to preserve it (preserve the pot holes: Wetland Easement Wars). Keep up the great work Terry, can hardly wait to read your next book!
