The World's Ultimate Dollhouse
When I was 7 years old, my mother, grandmother and a cousin of mine went to Chicago, and one of the places we went was the Museum of Science and Industry. Before we went, my mother told me that as a young girl, she had seen the fairy castle when it toured the country before becoming a permanent exhibit at the museum. She told me how much she loved it, and I couldn't wait to see it. I was not disappointed. This IS the ultimate dollhouse. Every time I go to the museum, you can't get me to leave without seeing the fairy castle.I took my own daughter to see it, and now she loves it, too. The last time we went, I found this wonderful book at the gift shop, and was thrilled that now I could look at my beloved fairy castle whenever I wished. This book is a real treasure, with beautiful pictures of the castle. Anyone who loves dollhouses, and the fairy castle in particular, will love this book. It never fails to provoke happy memories for me.

Fairies Live Here!
I recently had the pleasure of visiting the castle in Chicago, and can hardly find the words to say how magnificent it was! Still, in the time I had to view it, so many details were missed. That is why this book is so great. It not only displays the castle with better lighting, it gives you a chance to savor all the tiny details you might never have seen. There is also some wonderful biographical information on Colleen Moore herself. A must for miniature lovers, little girls, and dreamers everywhere!

Every Little Girl's Dream
I was browsing in Amazon.com when I discovered this book. I was so excited that I couldn't wait to order it. Chicago's Museum of Science & Industry is one of my all-time favorite places on earth. I still go there whenever I go back for a visit. As a little girl, growing up in Chicago in the 60's, one of my favorite things was going to see Colleen Moore's Doll House every year. I'm sure you can probably imagine how magical this huge, intricately planned, priceless, bejeweled dollhouse seemed in a darkened room by itself, lit with soft lights, telephones all around it so you could listen to discriptions of each room as you peered through the glass barrier surrounding it. This book captures much of the beauty of the amazing miniature treasures and the magic of the house itself-and definitely puts a smile on my face.

Another winner!
Adler's book is an incredible story about the generosity of the human spirit, both within a loving family on hard times and withing the larger world of sports heroes and their fans. Excellent reading for any child and especially for avid young baseball fans!

1932: Dad sells apples, mom saves, son becomes a "newsie"
When I first picked up "The Babe & I," I was expecting a book about baseball. While baseball, and Babe Ruth, do figure into the story, it's really an intriguing look into the life of a boy, his mom and secretly unemployed dad, during the Great Depression year of 1932. Once the boy discovers that his dad is actually selling apples to make money, instead of going to his former job each morning, he learns from his friend, Jacob, how to make money selling newspapers in front of Yankee Stadium.

These two "newsies" learn that they can sell more papers by yelling out the latest headlines about Babe Ruth, such as, "The Babe hits number twenty-five! Read all about it!"

This attractive picture book is quick slice of history for young readers, while incorporating an introductory lesson in economics. It's also a lesson in love: a boy's love for his father, and a father's love for his family.

Terry Widener's mural-like illustrations make a nice addition to this heartwarming tale, however the slightly surreal quality makes each scene seem lifeless, when this story is about life, and love, during difficult times. Having said that, they are still attractive and colorful, and do complement the storyline.

And yes, Babe Ruth, does make an touching appearance in this story, set in "that year they were the best team in baseball."

The students in our elementary school library have enjoyed this book.

I Loved It!
There was big advertisement for it today in the New York Post and I was glad to see it becuase it is one of the best books for children I have read in a long time.

The Baby Boomers' Guide to Living Forever

An Excellent Guide To The Life-Extension Revolution!
Over the years I have read several health oriented books promoting ideas for healthier and longer lives for us, this one is by far the best, containing down-to-earth advice of a practical and far reaching nature. Many areas are covered, including supplements from arginine to zinc, social issues, and lots of other topics.

This book supports the method of using biostasis (cryonics) at the time of death as a means of reaching the future era of advanced nanomedicine, much anticipated by many scientists who work in this nascent field. About fifteen pages are devoted to cryonics, a very good introduction to this subject, an idea and practice that is slowly becoming 'mainstream'. In fact, Terry Grossman, himself an M.D., is signed up for cryonics.

Overall, this volume contains much useful advice and should be read by everyone.

An Unexpected Eye Opener
With a title like, "The Baby Boomers' Guide To Living Forever," it would be easy to pass over this book with the assumption that it is a journey into some sort of medical never-never land. But as I quickly discovered, this is far from the case. "The Baby Boomers' Guide" shapes as an absolutely fascinating, at times scholarly, tour of what middle age America can do to improve both the quality and quantity of life. Dr. Grossman covers a remarkable spectrum of topics and, with support from co-authors who are experts in each of dozens of medical/health areas, provides an astonishing treasure of useful information. This is one of those rare books that can literally change the course of the reader's life. "Baby Boomers' Guide" is must reading for anyone who is serious about extending their years, perhaps beyond anything that they ever imagined was possible.

Great Guide
Dr. Grossman and the co-authors have put together one of the best longevity / anti-aging books around. They don't just banter on about generalities as other authors do on the subject, but provide practical and real information. This book is a good guide for one interested in the anti-aging movement, not only the patient but for doctors discovering this field of medicine.

Finally Well Explained....
I found the tone of this book to be rather kind, informative, honest and reassuring. Well written. It certainly allayed of my fears and concerns and answered ALL of my questions quite concisely. Its really a handy little book! Thank you.

BOTOX by Dr. Ron Shelton
This is a wonderful book written by a superbly qualified dermatologist. He writes in question and answer format so the average reader can easily understand the procedure and the risks and benefits of this treatment. I've now read three other books on the subject and none were as easy to understand as this one. It's factual and there are no hard-to-understand medical words. Overall, the book is very reassuring to those of us who might want BoTox but are anxious about trying something new. This a must-read for any patient contemplating either surgery or BoTox.
A Reader from New York

The only book about Botox that's worth buying
Finally, an easy-to-read book that is factual and discusses the pros and cons. Obviously, Dr Shelton is academically minded and conservative. His book is extremely thorough and is not filled with hard-to-understand medical terms. I now understand why Botox is safe! I wish other books would be this good, and inexpensive.

The Complete Strangers In Paradise Volume Two

A breath of fresh air -- absolutely THE BEST!
I've been collecting comic books since the late 1950's when there was a great variety of quality comics to choose from. I bought Superman, Dennis the Menace, Archie, Mutt and Jeff, Little Lulu, Ritchie Rich, Nancy and Sluggo, etc. But for the past 20 years or so there's been only two types of comics to choose from -- superhero and satanic .... Except for Strangers in Paradise. In my opinion, Terry Moore has created the best comic book series ever. And it's a pity that more people don't know about SIP. So many people are addicted to the TV soap operas. They should be so lucky to discover SIP! If they did, Terry's subscriber list would be in the millions and SIP would be a household word!

You'll fall in love instantly with these wonderful humans
The anti-comic book. An addictive series about love, life, crime, sexual identity, God, and what to wear on an intimidating job interview. The three main characters, Katchoo, David, and Francine, will engage you, amaze you...you'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll feel young again! On the real...if you think comics are all superheroes and monster stuff, this is for you. Some of my other favorite writers are John Irving, Anne Rice, Banana Yoshimoto, Vladimir Nabokov, and Jonathan Carroll. If you like contemporary literary fiction-GET THIS COMIC! You will love it. Start with Volume One. :)

Jeepers crow, what a book!
When I first started to read Strangers in Paradise back in 1996, I had to immediatly get my hands on every issue I could possibly find. I coulnd't stop reading this compelling story of Katchoo, Francine, David, and the rest of the deeply molded characters in this book. Terry Moore, dispite being a really friendly guy, has a great storytelling sence- verbally and visually. Although all three of the Strangers in Paradise series are wonderfull, this one takes the cake. A very deep story that will make you laugh, make you cry, and make you love the characters you are reading about. As soon as this collected edition came out, I had to own it, even though I own all of the indiviual comics. What more can I say... buy it, it's just amazing!

Titus Bass; A man you'd be proud to call friend...
I've loved Johnston's books as I have read them all; however, the books with Titus Bass have come to be a truly special experience that is rare. Titus Bass is the kind of man you what for a friend. A person to trust and count on when life isn't going perfect. It's both sad and happy to read (even though not real)about a man of the mountains that you'd wish to share his time and space; proud to call him friend. Now, excuse me while I read them again and again...

Titus Bass will stay in my heart forever, truly a great book
Captivating, exciting, shocking, I cannot put the book down. Johnston is the master storyteller. Titus Bass is like an old friend, every book in the series is wonderful reading, giving us a realistic window into the past. I now await the sequel.

Another great mountain man saga featuring Titus Bass
The problem with prequels is that eventually they bring you up to a time that you've already covered. Such is the sad case with "Crack in the Sky". The book is one of the best in the Titus Bass saga, and it's sad that it ends with the events that begin the first Titus Bass novel (though the fourth chronologically), "Carry the Wind". Each of the Titus Bass series are books I'll read over and over. There have been some great mountain man books in the past (A.B. Guthrie's "The Big Sky" comes to mind), but Johnston's are among the very best. Pick any Titus Bass novel and dig in--by the end of the book, you'll know this character through and through. You'll experience the harshness and reality of life on the frontier and in the Rockies during the early part of the 19th century. You'll also enjoy the simple but boisterous pleasures of that time. And you'll experience the bloody battles that were fundamental to survival. Viva Terry C. Johnston! Please find a way to give us more Titus Bass novels like this!

Skip the Movie and Read This!
Just a quick glance at the myriad of Daredevil trade paperbacks out there will give some indication of how many permutations this character has gone through. Unfortunately few truly understand the intricacies of the character who can turn into a third-rate ninja in one writer's hands and a cut-rate Spider-man in another's.

Luckily Brian Michael Bendis "gets" Daredevil - much as Miller and Smith have before him. As others have said in their reviews before this one, this is certainly not a conventional superhero tale as it focuses more on Matt Murdock and less on his costumed alter-ego. What appearances there are from the spandex set are limited but very effective. And you have to give credit to ANY writer who can make Mr. Hyde interesting, if only for a few panels.

Two disapointments: 1) The conniving Mr. Silke, who basically sets Murdock up for much of the misery he experiences in these issues, essentially becomes a castrated character barely even appearing in these pages. Perhaps Bendis has something up his sleeve for Silke. I hope so, as this story really wastes his potential.
2) The final third or so of the book is taken up with a White Tiger storyline that is moderately good, but certaily nothing like the Bendis/Maleev stories that precede it.

Bottom Line: The Hollywood screenwriters could learn a LOT from Bendis and Maleev. This is a worthwhile read!

TODAY'S BEST MAINSTREAM COMIC
Be warned: This collection may cover Daredevil #32-40, but Daredevil hardly appears at all. There's only a brief appearance by a super-villian, and that's by the fourth-string Mr. Hyde. There are cameos galore, but of the appearances by Spider-Man, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Elektra, Jessica Jones and the White Tiger, only Spider-man does any real "super-heroing". The story doesn't advance or conclude with a big battle royale and a resolve where our hero saves the day and the world is put right, but with...well, find that out for yourself.

This is the best Daredevil storyline since Born Again.

Read Underboss before this to get the full story. In breif: Daredevil's secret identity has been outed by a tabloid newspaper (whose source is also an unconventional surprise). The repercussions are real and, no, there won't be a resolve with both Matt Murdock and someone else disguised as Daredevil appearring in the same place at the same time.

Bendis' strength as a writer of dialogue and creating memorable, vital characters is at its' peak here. Matt Murdock creates his own problems and ruins good opportunities because of his own flaws, not some super-baddie vowing revenge. Maleev's artwork is dark, gritty, moody and somber: an ideal match for Daredevil (and the colors by Matt Hollingworth and even the lettering by Richard Starkings are also well-suited and noteworthy).

Bendis and Maleev as a creative team for daredevil is so effective and evocative because they were both clearly influenced by Frank Miller. However, they are are not just aping Miller, they're embellishing. Their vision for Daredevil will forever change the character and in time may be remembered as just as important as Millers'.

The only drawback is the artwork in the last White Tiger story. It's okay, and it's a good story but without Maleev, it's just not the same, and it would have been really interesting to see what Maleev would have done with the story-line.

Pick this up. It's not just the best mainstream comic today, it may be the best thing in the entire field.

Character Driven, Intense Super Hero Tale
Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil, faces the worst nightmare for masked adventurer when the front page of the tabloids proclaim to the world that he is Daredevil. His life is upended, the media is camped outside his aprtment and hounding his every mood, and Foggy tells Matt that maybe he should quit. This story plumbs the depth of the character, Matt not Daredevil, and what compels Matt to put on the costume. Very few baddies in this volume, it's all about Matt and Foggy, which isn't a bad thing. Guest appearances include Luke Cage, Jessica Jones (ALIAS), the Black Widow, and Spiderman.

The pencils by alex maleev are incredible. His work constantly improves with each issue of Daredevil he draws. Buy this book. Bendis' best Daredevil story so far.

If this is your first Daredevil book, I suggest picking up "Underboss" before you read this book.

Deeper Than Tears
I have bought many of these. I send this book to friends who have lost a loved one or have a serious illness. It is extremely inspiring and comforting.

A warm embrace of encouragement for the heart in pain.
This book is like the comfort of a friend's warm embrace when the pain is not seen by the human eye nor the path one to be walked alone. This book left me comforted during a time of trials which left me asking God those "why" questions which He rarely answers on this earth. God never promised the absence of trials in our lives but He did promise growth in our trials. We can choose to hold onto the pain all by ourselves and experience limited growth or we can choose to let God and friends share our pain and in the sharing allow them to help us grieve and grow. From someone who has felt my share of pain thru life and whom has gone thru training to be a crisis counselor,I highly recommend this book to the person hurting and to the friend reaching out to another in pain. It is a book I reach for when the trials touch my heart and when another's heart needs an encouraging word from a friend. I would highly recommend this book as an outreach to be provided to anyone grieving a loss or questioning the "why" of a trial.

Deep insight, solace, comfort and encouragement
I had a really tough year. Cancer, divorce and infertility were all the issues that faced me. This little book is/was ENORMOUSLY comforting. I am buying several to give to others. The perfect gift when you don't know what to do or say for other people in their tough times.

Fantastic Book
I've searched for a long time a good DC 8 book which would show and describe what happened in the planning-time, in the production-time, what for problems the engeeners had and so on.
And I've found it, I recommend this book strongly to everybody who loves the DC 8 and the early jetliners.

Great Book on a wonderful airplane.
I just received this book, but I am already very happy with it. It is full of lots of details on this wonderful old aircraft and a large number of color photos. It makes me remember a childhood trip I took on a Delta DC-8 and we got to sit in this lounge type set up in the very front of the airplane, ahead of the galley. With 2 sets of 2 seats facing each other with a table between them. What a wonderful and elegant airplane. I can't wait to finish the book.

A reference guide a turn to day in and day out
Beautifully illustrated referene book covering every aspect of the Douglas DC-8. This is by far one of America's greatest aviation achievements and this title certainly demonstrates that honor. As part of a top-of-the-line series (Great Airliners), the reader will find this addition to thier airliner book collection priceless.
