Masterpiece of "oral history" -- the Souls of MACV grunts
This is simply the best book written by an American about war. Mr. Terry interviewed grunts who more often than not had been to Hell and the book captures the flailing, coughing evil of the place. Terry avoids the B.S. that goes with military ambition. His men were Black soldiers with no sense of "pro patria mori" and varying loyalty to the greater patriotic cause. This book is a dead-down opposite to William Manchester's "American Caesar," a first-rate biography of Douglas MacArthur, who is deservedly revered as a courageous soldier and brilliant general. Terry's "Oral History" reaches down into our humanity and finds a core of emotion that must have been with us when we lived in caves, fearing wild beasts. ****** The challenge is finishing "Bloods." Hell is impossible to visit; "Bloods" is as close as you're going to get. ****** This reviewer carries a VA "purple card."

An excellent testimony from brave, articulate fighting men
I have bought this book twice and through cross country moves I have unfortunately lost both copies. It is a true tradegy to me that it is out of print. It is a sterling example of bravery, discrimination, and heart in a "tell it like it is" format. It should be required reading.

Excellent! A life-restorer!
Racism in the American military helped to prevent American political objectives in Vietnam from becoming a reality. The enemy exploited white racism to the point it divided our forces and reduced our military ability to exert its full capabilities... too many Americans left the Constitution at home. "Bloods" tells it like it is. A superb collection. I applaud it.

The Information in The Book Changed My Life.
I recommend this book whole-heartedly for anyone who would like to change behaviors that they are unhappy with, be able to participate more fully, naturally, and wisely in life, or have any family or childhood-related issues they would like to resolve. Excellent book for those willing to look and willing to change.

An excellent, clear, concise, readable book.
This is the first book that really looks candidly at the problems that individuals face when they are codependent. Throughout the book, Terry Kellogg refuses to excuse or deny behaviours whilst connecting with the multifacets of this problem. Easy language but a difficult painful read.

An excellent resource.
Terry Kellogg's book has been an excellent resource for me. It has helped me to realize that I am not alone and that recovery and treatment are possible. This book came into my life at the right time, and has been a wonderful blessing. Thanks Terry!

What a Cool Book!
A friend of mine had been deeply engrossed in a book for a while. She had gotten it as a gift and was unable to put it down. When she finished, I asked her about it.
"It's called Children and Fools, and it's absolutely fantastic!" was the answer I got.
If she had called it "absolutely fantastic", well, that's pretty big! So, I asked if I could read it. She said yes, and I took it home.
Mr. Mirll really has a way of writing. This guy has to be a genius or something! When I finished I didn't want to return it right away. It's terrific.

I haven't laughed so hard in a long time!
I enjoyed this book a lot and have already loaned it to a number of friends and relatives. Mirll has a great way with words and takes what may be rather standard situations and creates incredibly funny stories out of them. It's light-hearted for the most part, but you do pick up quite a bit about Austria. Having lived in Austria during the time in which the story is set, it struck me as very accurate and inciteful.

The main thing is that it was wickedly funny - at several parts I was laughing harder than I have in a long time. If you enjoy excellent turns of phrase, absurd situations and have something of a cynical turn, you'll probably enjoy this book. I'll definitely read anything else the author writes.

Well written and Intelligently clever
If you're looking for a good book to read, Children and Fools by Terry Mirll is a terrific one.
Set in Austria, this delightful tale is altogether funny. It's like Animal House, but set in Europe! The embarrassing things that happen to the star of this story, which include an acrobatic turkey and a maniacal soda machine, will make anybody laugh.
The story is set at the time of the Gulf War, and there are serious moments too, adding just a bit of suspense. The history of Austria, its ways and customs, and other details definately make this book a wonderful reading adventure.
Well written and clever, you are sure to enjoy Children and Fools- a Twisted Tale of the Vienna Woods, by Terry Mirll.

Creating a Sensational Home
For Me and my artist senses, this book is a modern writting of Edith Schaeffer's " The Hidden Art of Homemaking". I enjoyed the way Terry put this book together. Helping you, think through logically, each room of your home and all your senses, that make home, feel like home. I have used this book as part of my homeschool curriculum, for Home economics for my girls, high school level class. This book is easy to read in format, and fun to re-browse through from time to time to re-stimulate your thoughts, when you begin to feel "What is the missing spark in my home right now?". I highly recommend it, for those of us that want to thoughtfully consider what makes us comfortable, what will make this My "Home Sweet Home". She doesn't approach this from a predigested comercial feel... All the members of your household are considered through practicality to create a warm and loving home design. I pray this book will stay on the market for many others to discover for a long time to come!

LOVED this book!
I got so many great ideas from this book! It really caused me to think about how I can make every person who enters my home feel welcome and cared for. It was a joy to read and put the ideas into practice. I'm so glad I found it!

This is one of my favorite books.
Terry Willits' book is similar to Alexandra Stoddard's book Living a Beautiful Life. Terry shows readers how to awaken their five senses by making things in their homes look, sound, feel, smell, and taste wonderful. She emphasizes creating a God-centered home and focuses on using the beauty of our homes to nurture the people we love. I enjoyed this book and didn't want it to end. It's a must-read!

History brought to vivid life.
Terry C. Johnston makes the Indian Wars come to life in his novels, injecting a human element and action into stodgy historical fact. He's done it again in this first volume of his projected trilogy covering the Nez Perce war. While this is included in his Plainsman series, regular readers may be disappointed that his hero Seamus Donegan is nowhere to be found in this first novel. And this is what puts Terry at the top of the heap among historical novelists--he refuses to inject his character in a story where realistically he cannot be. When we last saw Seamus, he was still involved in the Lakota/Cheyenne wars down in Wyoming and Montana. It would be physically impossible, and a transparent writer's ploy to put him in Idaho for the sake of keeping Seamus the focus. Too many writers have their main character involved in every frontier fracas possible. But Terry sticks to history melded to crackling good adventure. "Cries From the Earth" sheds light on the long-ignored start of the Nez Perce conflict, and doesn't sugarcoat the facts. There is NO political correctness in this volume, my friend. Terry stays true to the times and the attitudes and foibles of all the participants of this shameful chapter in our history. If you think you know all about the Nez Perce conflict, think again. Terry C. Johnston has read all the histories, talked to all the experts, and he has read between the lines of these volumes and words. He has a practiced knowledge of the frontier, and reaches conclusions based on common sense that others have lacked. Read "Cries From the Earth" and learn, friends. And be entertained as well. A master Storyteller has written!

Terry amazes us once again!!!
Once again, Terry takes into the bloody jaws of hell with his wonderful mix of storytelling and history. Well reasearched, this book, like his others carries us into the shoes of the soldier, Nez Perce, and the civilian alike during this start of the Nez Perce War. There is no author that can keep pace with Terry, the best novelist of our time. Cries from the Earth makes little known places come to life with great significance. This book is absolutely wonderful.

Informative, a touch of history unknown to many, Book 2?
So many of us use US 95 and drive down the White Bird Pass and only take a second glance at the monument and what has transpired. Terry Johnston has taken a somewhat unknown battle and if all of his fans take the time to read the novel and assorted readings, I think you will find US 95 a busy tourist area.

I hike in the Salmon river country since 1972. Every year I head down White Bird Pass and quickly look at the monument and drive on.

I am looking forward this year to one week in this area to walk the hills and drink in the atmosphere that Terry has done again. Looking forward to the second book.

A Wonderful Resource for Plains Indian Information Seekers!
At first glance this book looks like it is simply another children's book but once you open it the beautiful, full color photos speak for themselves! The book is 100% full color and shows a variety of men and women of different Plains tribal affiliations and their routines of daily life. Everything from styles of clothing to weapons, to men's and women's roles is covered in accurate, deatiled photography accompanied by brief commentary. Each subject is attired in meticulously replicated regalia done by the author who is a well known and respected Plains Indian authority. Another nice feature is the addition of a resource page listing historical sites of the Great Plains region. For such a small price tag this is one book that should be on every American history buff's bookshelf! You will not be disappointed!

An Excellent Book for Children or Craftworkers
Michael Terry's "Daily Life in a Plains Indian Village, 1868" is a wonderful book that, although geared toward children and adolescents, provides a colorful overview of the ways of life of the Plains Indian peoples for all readers. The full color, large photograaphs on every page are incredible. Northern Palins replica makers and craftworkers will also find a wealth of close-up photos and descriptions of tools, weapons, and art to which they can refer in their work. If you wish you could see the Plains Indians in the full color splendor for which they are known then this is the book for you!

Beautiful! Very discriptive! Excellent for all!
A very well done, beautifully illustrated book for all ages, highly recommend it.

Stunning beauty
This book despite it's somewhat horrific subject matter has a beauty so deep and profound it restores my faith in interest in Black and White image making. Beautifully printed it is a book that any budding black and white landscape photographer should own.

very interesting
This is a cheap book considering the printing quality, the fact that it is hardbound and due to the number of plates. What's new here is the fact that the pictures are aerial photographs. The artist was creative with the aerial image and here and there we see that he has made some really beautiful images - pages 10, 12, 21, 35, 37, 41, 47, 49, 55, 83, 84, 85, 87, 88, 89, 91. Some images remind me of the early work by the Spanish painter and sculptor Tapies. It goes to prove that the sensitive eye can and will find ambiguity almost everywhere. Then there's also a group of images, which resemble moonscapes.

It is a lovely book but one which has hardly anything to do with ecological concepts or ideological attempts to make a living off other people's work (curators, critics, etc).

Highly recommended especially if you are like - you hold Weston, Imogen Cunnigan, and Caponigro at the highest level of photographic art (and seriously dislike "conceptual art" made by the inch at expensive universities and colleges).

Interesting also to note that great artists are NOT mainstream and don't have master's degrees ...

Documenting Ruinous Relations With The Land
Like a great deal of aerial photography (Bradford Washburn's naturalistic mountain work immediately comes to mind in this connection), Emmet Gowin's meticulously detailed portfolio depicting man's ambition writ large upon the surface of our planet can often be 'read' as much as abstract art as documentary record. As art, this series of images of a wounded planet is so deceptively compelling it is easy to become lost in the sensuousness of the aesthetic moment Gowin repeatedly creates and forget that the subject matter being systematically explored is intrinsically disturbing and of concern. Indeed, the experience of finding so much beauty in landscapes of man-made desolation and ruin is unnerving. Yet it is undeniable that from a distance the patterns on the Earth made by irrigation pivots, toxic chemical ponds, missile burial trenches, mining pits, and numerous other manifestations of human 'development' without limits are endlessly unique and dramatic. Paradoxically, it is precisely this nexus of visually stimulating, geometrically intricate imagery generated in the context of wanton exploitation and destruction of the land that sustains the narrative and aesthetic power of Changing The Earth. One is absorbed in the beauty of the photography just long enough to catch sight and become painfully aware of the pervasive, intensely consequential, problem that demands attention and thought. Thus lessons for the future abound in the pages of this volume! One day our way of taking the Earth for granted by first depleting its resources for immediate gain and then dumping what is no longer wanted or useful wherever is convenient, will be seen as the opulent conceit and obscene luxury that it surely is. Until that day, studies like Changing The Earth bare witness to our collective folly, greed and irresponsibility.

A great JMS book!
This book gave me real world examples, concepts and gotchas related to JMS. I found it very useful for understanding how to implement JMS with my J2EE application. It explained JMS in a fluid style that was easy to read.

This book goes beyond theory and explains how to use JMS in different situations.

excellent book!
Excellent book covering so many practical issues for JMS systems. The architectural insights were certainly useful for someone new to JMS.

The only complaint I have is the title - this books covers so much more than just Programming issues!

Well done Shaun.

A practitioner's guide
Excellent guide for practitioners. Instead of regurgitating the JMS spec, Shaun focuses on architectural as well as design issues related to JMS. Shaun has distilled his wealth of knowledge on this subject developed through Java Center engagements in this book. Don't miss it.

HEART THROBING SCARRY EPSODES
MR. SEARCY, TRULY MY HAT IS OFF TO YOU!! HURRUMPH!!!!
IT IS ONE OF THE MOST CHILLING BOOKS I'VE EVER READ. THESE TESTIMONIALS OF TRUE ACCOUNTS SHOULD BE READ BY ALL INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE; RENTING,LEASING, AND EVEN PURCHASING A HOME BE MADE AWARE OF THE EVICTIONS PROCESS. ANYONE WHO READS THIS BOOK, SHOULD BECOME WELL EDUCATED IN THE EVICTIONS PROCESS, AND

ALTHOUGH I AM PURCHASING A HOME FOR MY FAMILY, THE BOOK EXPLAINS IN FULL DETAIL, THE "EVITIONS PROCESS AND THE RIGHTS OF THE TENANTS AS WELL AS THE RIGHTS OF THE LANDLORD, MORTGAUGE COMPANY, AND THE DO'S AND DONT'S". LOUIS GUICHARD

Two Thumbs Up!
Evictions from the inside is a very insightful and informative book. Terry tapped into the sides of people which are unseen in other situations. He showed just how vonerable people truely are, and just how horrible a human being can be. No other book i've read has touch me and discused me all at once. I say this because my heart went out to those who were being put out like trash, and I felt a sense of hatred to those who were possing as the gabage men. I can't understand how someone can treat another human being with such calasness and just walk away like nothing happend. All in all this book made me realize the eviction prosses and want to help as much as possible. Terry I give you two thumbs up:)

An Eye Opening "Experience"
All who read this book will soon understand why I call it an "experience." Mr. Searcy has accomplished the task of writing a book that takes the reader along to experience several evictions. The book was surprisingly easy to read. You're able to visualize every moment as if you are there. Evictions are not a subject that most are interested in, but Mr.Searcy through his book makes the reader easily relate to the people, the individual subjects. Each chapter was a journey into a residence. Each chapter paints a vivid and gripping picture from the moment you open the book. It will certainly help all to understand the mechanics of the eviction process and meet some of the people that have had this gut wrenching experience.

A Father's Thoughts on Living

Not Only for Fathers and Sons
As the father of three sons and a daughter, I began to read this little book with mild curiosity which soon developed into keen interest. The "thoughts on living" which it shares should not be viewed as gender-specific, especially today when there are so many single parents who must be both mother and father to their children. Some readers have found this book to be inspirational whereas others have found it thought-provoking. No doubt at least a few have found it "cute" or "simplistic." I am grateful to Smith for sharing his own thoughts (many of them in the form of an aphorism) which he coordinates with thoughts from other sources, notably from the Holy Bible.

After I reading this book for a third time, I had a few thoughts of my own. First, that I wish my father had written down his own thoughts about various subjects (such as those listed in this book's Table of Contents) prior to his death. Also, that I should attempt to do that for my own sons and daughter...or at least audio-record those thoughts. Will they be as inspiring, thought-provoking, etc. as those which Smith assembles in his book? Who cares? That's not the point.

Wonderful Wisdom
With so many quote books on the market, it's such a treat to find one that has such well thought out meaning and direction. This author didn't just write a book to sell...he wrote a book for sons to read. This is a book for all men.

Great Encouragement!
I just received my copy of "A Father's Thoughts" and it is a great encouragement to me. As a husband, father, veteran, hard working and patriotic American I find Walt Smith's words very uplifting and true. This is a book you could use for daily motivation. My last name is Smith, but we are not related. However, the positive inspiration is something everyone could use and I am glad to share the same name! This is a great gift book!
