CUTE!!!!!!!!!
I read this book because my friend recommened it. Dobermans are my favorite breed of dogs, so enjoyed reading it.

It's about a Dobie (Doberman Pinscher) named Max who wanders away from his owners while on vacation in the Sierras. He was chasing a squirrel when he fell from a cliff. His owners call and search for him, but give up. They finally end up believing that he is dead, and return home.

Meanwhile, Max is trying to survive. Will he survive? Or wil he finally die of hunger and dehydration? You have to read to find out. This book is a real tearjerker and made me cry in several parts.

I recommend it to anyone, especially for those who have a dog.

A Great Story
This is a great book. My dog is a doberman and she's named Max so when I found this book I quickly bought it. My dog is dying of cancer and it's a good insparation.

Max survives injuries in the wild to return home.
I read this book as a child and have never forgotten the terrible odds Max overcame after being lost and injured in the wild while on holiday with his family. His triumphs inspires persistance while teaching about loyalty. I think it was based on a true story, but it's been a few years since I read this amazing book.

Powerful Project Leadership
Published in Paperback by Management Concepts, Inc. (07 April, 2002)
Author: Wayne Strider
Amazon base price: $39.95
Average review score:

Powerful Project Participation
I feel that this book could have just as easily been titled "Powerful Project Participation" or "Followership". It really addressed many issues about just plain working together.

The entire book is excellent! The "When you know something is wrong" chapter helped me understand many situations that I've encountered in the past couple of years -- and I believe will assist me in handling them better in the future.

If you read only 1 book on project leadership - read this!
I ordered this book right after it came out based on the recommendation of some colleagues I deeply respect. As I read thru it, the things in the book deeply resonated with me. It really "hit home" on all the points regarding people issues and communication, especially managing relationships to set reasonable expectations and build trust and credibility with customers, stakeholders, peer managers, and others in the project's "community."

Afterward reading thru the book, I felt so frustrated because if I'd only known this stuff two years earlier, the previous project I'd been on might have been moderately successful (even though I wasn't the project manager). Instead, that project was the most miserable, infuriating, and betraying experience of my adult life. If only I had know all this back then [sigh]... I was utterly clueless about the communication dimension of project leadership until I read this book.

I have since been able to apply the wisdom of "Powerful Project Leadership" to subsequent projects with much success. I consider it required reading for any project leader, including technical leaders as well as project managers (especially brand new ones)

Not just for Project Leaders
What a terrific book! There are so few books in our business which focus on dealing with people issues, and even those seldom mention anything about understanding yourself. This is not just a book for project managers, project participants or IT people. Most of this book would be a real benefit to anyone who is trying to deal with being human. I started reading this book with high hopes, but the reality far exceeded them. I read it cover to cover in a couple of days.

In any kind of consulting work, most of the problems are from people issues. The studies all state that, as does the folklore. However, training seldom includes anything on how to handle the people issues that we all encounter. This book covers with these issues and includes exercises to help the reader learn. I wish I could make it required reading for every team I work on.

The Recruiting and Retention Handbook
Published in Ring-bound by Management Advantage (15 March, 2000)
Author: Wayne D. Ford Ph.D.
Amazon base price: $49.95
Average review score:

A double-barreled winner
This is the first book we've used that pointed out how strongly recruiting and retention are tied together. They both affect the other in an unbroken process. We now use this book as our main plan for hiring and retaining our employees. The principles set out by the author are absolutely accurate. They are based on experience and common sense and fit perfectly with how we want to see our business grow and prosper.

A Complete and Thorough Job
Bookforce recommends this book as the most complete book available on finding, hiring, and keeping good employees. The point is well made that all this is one continuous process. Poor recruiting and orientation adversely affects your retention to a dramatic degree, and high turnover can hurt recruiting. Dr. Ford shows how to build and run a program which encompasses the entire program needed to accomplish these multiple goals. He points out how this type of program directly impacts the bottom line, and increases the effectiveness of marketing and operations efforts. It is easy to read and understand while covering a sophisticated subject. Some readers may want the book as a reference, while others will use it a a blueprint to enhance their entire personnel and training system.

My new best friend
For a corporate recruiter and trainer, I found this book to be very helpful in bringing people to my employer and then keeping them there. Lots of good stuff on why applicants and employees do what they do. Any easy read and good reference.

Good read with poignant undertones.
If you are looking for a fun and interesting commentary on the "evolution" of our current educational system, you will enjoy this book. It is tongue in cheek while hitting the mark about trends in the educational system. This book comments on everything from religion to marriage to economics to afterschool programs.

The characters Wayne and Peddiwell are wonderful, especially after they down several tequila daisies.

Don't let the 1959 date fool you.
Don't let the 1959 date fool you. Or the reference to curriculum. We have yet to learn and employ the lessons this book provides in education, in the military, in the analysis of clinical trials, and in socal policy. (Aren't we about to build a multi-trillion dollar missile system to keep out knife-wielding terrorists?)

One of the best books on education!
Paleolithic education will still be fashionable in the 21st century if educators of today are not going to do some reflections.

Spaniards and Nazi Germany: Collaboration in the New Order
Published in Hardcover by Univ of Missouri Pr (Txt) (2000)
Author: Wayne H. Bowen
Amazon base price: $34.95
Collectible price: $47.48

Great history
I enjoyed this book, which is very well documented with lots of footnoes and bibliography. The Nazis come off looking pretty arrogant about Spain, which they thought was at their beck and call. This book has everything a good history should: adventure, war, diplomacy, economics, conspiracies, and unexpected results. Excellent.

Exciting story about Spain
I really liked this book! My boyfriend is a real history buff, watching the History Channel all the time and everything, so I wasn't convinced I would enjoy it when he kept pushing me to look at it, but after I started reading Bowen's book, I couldn't put it down. There are a lot of amazing stories in it, like when Spaniards fought to defend Berlin at the end of World War II, and when Franco said "no" to Hitler -- and got away with it! For a history book, it's a pretty fun read!

Pro-Nazi Spaniards
This is an exciting story about my country's history during the Spanish Civil War and Second World War, when my grandparents endured starvation and political warfare. Professor Bowen has written a very interesting book, finding archives and research materials that no Spanish historian has used, to create this history which reads like a novel. I had no idea so many of my people were enthusiastically pro-Nazi, fighting in the German army, agitating for Spanish entry into the war, and volunteering, even after the war was lost, to help Hitler win. I had heard of the Blue Division, but thought these were soldiers Franco forced to go to Russia, not tens of thousands of volunteers who wanted to fight Stalin. Sometimes Bowen seems to go a little too easy on Franco, who contributed so much to making life difficult in Spain during this period, but I still recommend this book for everyone interested in the Second World War or Spanish history.

The Metaphysics of Science and Freedom: From Descartes to Kant to Hegel (Avebury Series in Philosophy)

Author: Wayne, Cristaudo
Amazon base price: $99.95
Used price: $59.95
Average review score:

just short of the summit
This book is very close to the pinnacle of fame. The reader can visualise the author wrestling with the great philosophical problems that enveloped and obsessed the minds of European intellectuals in the 17th and following centuries. An impressive contextualisation and transmission of the origins, development and consequences of Cristuado's selected subjects theses - even as he is manhandled, twisted, crushed and flung violently around the ring by Descartes, Hegel, Kant and Marx in turn. An unfair tag-team bout of four against one - but Cristaudo makes a courageous and valiant attempt to withstand the rigours he imposed upon himself.

scholarly expertise revealed
Viewed in its proper context, the ivory tower of philosophical introspection and the output of a genuine academic egghead, this is a serious, dogged tome. Through both material and method, the author offers valuable insights into the Schwerfaelligkeit of Hegel, the obsessive Klassificationsmanie of Kant, the whimsy of Descartes and the catastrophe of Marxism. Highly recommended for any who share the author's proclivities.

A fine piece of academic work
In this work Wayne Cristaudo offers the specialist reader a detailed scholarly analysis of the influential philosophical figures from Descartes to Marx. The author has painstakingly laid out and scrutinised the presumptions and implications entailed in each philosopher's writings as well as indicating some connections between them. This is indeed a valuable and rigorous study.

Great Balance
Barry has now written 2 good books on worship. The heart he has for worship, and his attempt not to alienate anyone truly seeking God are outstanding. It is a shame he has to bend over backwards to keep some from getting upset, but he is willing to do it for God's sake and he is good at it.

There are many practical helps here as well as a good basis for trying new forms and methods. I find his style honest and inviting. I can also personally testify to many of the recommendations given on contemporary, flowing worship styles.

Get this book and have fun exploring God's greatness is worship!

The Expanded Version is 40% better
This is the author, Barry Liesch, writing. Just a note on the changes in the expanded edition. Chapters 1, 2, 6, 10, and 11 are new or virtually new. All the other chapters (16 in all) are enhanced too. This version is much stronger, both theologically and practically.

It has a greater appeal to college-age worship leaders. It's more incisive. It also links up with the web site I've partnered, offering many supplemental materials with ongoing updates--see worshipinfo.com. Baker Books has done an exemplary job with the layout--lots of diagrams, tables, illustrative drawings for the eye. In short, I'm pleased with the result and hope you will be too.

Easy to Read and Practical
This book is timely. Carifying of my own opinions and experience while offering new insights and practical application. Obviously established on experience and observation as well as Biblical principles (I also read the author's other book, People in the Presence of God, for more theological background). An insightful resource, easy to read and understand.

Parables for Kids
Published in Audio Cassette by Tyndale House Pub (01 April, 1999)
Authors: Danae Dobson, Wayne Shepherd, and James C. Dobson
Amazon base price: $11.99
Average review score:

An excellent resource to teach difficult concepts to kids
I particularly enjoyed using the story of the Good Samaritan. The authors do an excellent job of telling a modern story followed by the Biblical story then tie the two together. The Good Samaritan brings home the meaning so very well for kids. I would recommend this book or cassette for Children's Church or for home Bible study. It would also be good for young homeschoolers.

An excellent and easily understood tool to teach kids!
This attractive, hardback book "Parables for Kids" is excellently written and illustrated. Not only the Biblical story, but a contemporary one is presented to allow the child to put today's events and places and things together with the concept the Bible teaches. I used this book to teach a couple of parables to a large group and it was well received. I am eager to buy additional books by these same 2 authors, Danae and James Dobson, daughter and dad.

Good for kids 1st grade - 5th grade
I am in charge of our church's children's church ages 4- 7. When I ordered this book the description said ages 4-8. When I got the book, it had long pages of text. I did not think that 4 0r even 5 year olds would sit still long enough to hear the story. I love the concept of the book, but I prefer shorter pages of text with illustrations that I can show the kids; or I think I will lose their attention. I do recommend it for ages 6 and up.

The Pastor's Guide to Fund-Raising Success

The Pastor Holds the Keys
Fundraising is not easy, but it is essential and can be learned if you are committed to be guided step by step through this well-designed resource.

If you are a pastor you must accept your significant role--not an exclusive one--but one that clearly supports the entire funding team.

The tables and appendices are wonderful reference tools!

Read Chapter 7 first and last and between all other chapters as well. It answers the WHY question that puts into perspective the importance of this book. It clearly hits the point of how stewardship and funding are related. They are---of course---not the same.

Use the Checklists and Celebrate Success sections at the end of each chapter. They will make THE difference.

The authors never lose sight of the fact that each word, paragraph, section and chapter clearly reminds us that this a book that deals with MINISTRY.

Practical Approaches To Fund Raising
After purchasing this book, and looking for more information that could help me improve my churches financial base, I was very pleased to find very practical and usable information rather than just a series of suggestions. This hands-on info is also complete with checklists, pledge cards, and year by year planning guides to help the busy pastor and save him time. There is no need to reinvent the wheel. By using this book you'll find a practical, easy to use approach for all types of fundraising. The book also uses tried and proven techniques that have worked across all denominational lines. I believe it will work if you are willing to work it. The book is a very practical approach if you are looking to help improve your churches donor program.

Real church language
I found this book chock full of REAL content for both pastors and lay people alike. You'll appreciate the "church related language" and the way it's organized for a simple or all-out effort in fund raising/stewardship. You can tell that the author has extensive field experience and comes from "being there, doing that" activity. As a professional fund raising consultant I recommend this work highly. Very readable, to the point, accurate and carefully researched. Highly recommended reading for the noviced or experienced pastor, or layperson, for that matter.
